It is really nice to hear your honesty about how the ways nail polish has helped you, but also how you have changed and grown into a small business owner. You should feel really proud of yourself!
I spent about $475 on polish this year, which is more than a car payment for me. I am continuing to be more mindful about what I purchase as I want to enjoy the beautiful polishes I have. The big thing for me is breaking the FOMO. It is okay to miss out on a popular new release and find wear something you already own to cause a smile.
Thank you for being so transparent and honest! Honestly content creation takes way more time and energy than people think and it often doesn't really pay off for a long time, unless you become very popular fast. It totally makes sense that your priorities have changed. Though I'll definitely miss your no nonsense reviews! You've also inspired me to look at how much I spent on nail polish last year... 😅 But it'll take me a while to compile that data.
This exactly! I’ve spent three years doing this and I’m not seeing it pay off much. In the nail community, your nails need to have a certain look or you won’t get far with pitching to brands. Oh and you need to know how to do nail art very well. Swatches aren’t a big seller unfortunately.
I definitely understand the need to shift your focus and priorities on your family and small business. I will definitely miss seeing your swatch and reviews of the latest collections. You were always first to show us the new collections. Definitely a good idea to bring cash and set a budget for the Expo. Happy New Year…here’s to more restraint and mindfulness when it comes to beautiful nail polishes for us all🤪
It's brave of you to add this up and then announce it to everyone..and i feel like you doing so really sends an important message that we all def need to think about!! Like i could not make myself add up my polish spending all year...if i did, i know it would be a huge sickening shock. And just as you said, it would make me think about what else i could've done with that money! So 2025 i'm def gonna keep this in mind. 💜 i love these candid videos you share with us.
Janixa, hi, Happy New Year! I always jot down what color I’m wearing, but I never count…..so I just took a look and counted….for 2024, I wore 156 manicures and pedicures combined. A few were skittle manis, but it’s crazy to see a number on paper. Wishing you tons of success with Charmed Lacquer! You’re so much fun, and I love your videos!
Do you what you gotta do, mama!! It always baffles me that people feel almost apologetic for doing what's in their best interest...I mean, it's not like your decision to evolve is causing anyone harm, right? So, best wishes & much success!
Thank you for talking about how smaller purchases add up. This happens easily. It’s good to add up totals from time to time and maybe also think about a budget. Love your content ❤
It does happen easily! I remember a few months last year when I thought I hadn’t spent much because my totals were $30 or less and NOPE, once I added everything up I was over $200. 🤦🏻♀️😂
I would be curious to know about how much money you spent in getting your new small business going, like how much you spent in 2024 on your business. You wouldn't necessarily have to get into how much you made from it. But I would be curious as to how much the startup cost was if you would be interested in sharing that
Thanks for transparency! I've definitely spent too much too last year and want to cut back. I hope for this hobby to not be of one of just consuming and having the new thing but to enjoy the polishes i have more often ✨️💅
Oh girl, I have no idea what I spent last year, but I know it was a lot 😊 I am hoping to stick to a low buy this year and cut way back. It’s just so tempting though to give into new releases, sales, PPU, etc. ☺️ I don’t blame you at all for wanting to devote your time to your business, family, and yourself. There are always plenty of swatching videos out there. Happy New Year!!
I always wondered how much swatchers spent on polish. I know you get a lot of PR, but obviously not all is PR. I don’t judge you at all. This is definitely a hobby of mine and really my only vice. I cut down this year because I had a move and job change. However, when all is said and done, I calculated everything spent on nails like stamping plates and polishes and I still spent over $1,120! It really does add up, however, i don’t spend more than I can afford. Priorities always come first. I look forward to your channel however it changes. Showing your own brand and it’s creation is very interesting. Shimmers sound great, looking forward to what you come up with.
I honestly don’t think that’s a terrible sum as long as you’re not getting into debt over it. I went Ramsey a couple years ago and now budget nail polish as my hobby. It’s all about priorities and you can spend it however is best for you.
If I didn’t have any debt, I probably wouldn’t mind the amount very much. But because I do have debt, I need to take the majority of that nail polish spending and put it towards eliminating the debt I do have. After its gone, I will feel better about spending what I want on polish.
💅💅👏I wish I got PR polishes. I have spent waaay too much, something like £275 a month. I haven't any self control. I love every bottle I own though 😍. This year I'm going to try "no buy" mainly because I have no space. I appreciate your honesty. I love the polish you're wearing and the look of Charmed Lacquer. TFS
I spent about the same last year! 😅 I've just started collecting 2 years ago, so I feel like I'm finally starting to know what polishes I will truly like to wear. So this year, I want to try to be more mindful of what I get and try not to dupe myself! What I have found hard while strating my collection, is that EVERYTHING looks new and unique to me, so fomo was hard to resist! I feel more optimist this year, though!
Hi❤ Watching you reintroduced me to paint my nails. When I was younger, it gave me joy, and now that I'm older, I look forward to it. Love your spirit !
Receiving 500+ polishes in PR annually is absolutely wild! These conversations are hard but important. I really appreciate your transparency and vulnerability, so thank you for sharing! ❤
Thank you for this video!! This is part of your job, so I kind of understand your spending but now with your own brand, not needed as much! I LOVE the idea to keep track of the polishes you use and manicures you do. I have towers of polishes, and then others in boxes and drawers. I see new polishes I really want but honestly I most likely have something similar or just like it in my collection. I change my nails ever few days, it relaxes me. Funny I stopped to count how many polishes I have used already for 2025, and I am at 12 already. I want to try to keep tracks like you are and try to use every polish I own at least once. I am on a buying freeze, until I see your new polishes I'm sure, until I use the ones I have! Make up too! No more buying anything new until i finish what I own!! Thanks again for the video! Cant wait for your new collection!!
@naillacquertherapy Skittles I have been into Skittle manis lately! Which are SO hard for me! I have such a hard time picking colors, then which go next to each other? Can you do a skittle with just 2 colors, how do you do it with 2 or just 4? You know what would be a fun video? The different skittle manicures you have done. Or some of your favorite? Experiment with your polishes, your brand. Again thanks for the video and the idea about keeping track of polishes and manicures I do. By the way, just saw someone mentioned doing the same on someone else's comments section!! You are being heard and making a difference my friend!!
ooof i don't even want to think about how much I spent 2024. I am trying to be more selective and budget myself on nail polish better but it is a work in progress.
ok.... i thought about it and i will be talking to my therapist tomorrow about the strong hold that retail therapy has on me and/or nail polish and nail stuff 🤣😂🤣😂 NOT INCLUDING 3rd party purchases like PPU, HHC, Mercari, eBay, Etc.... i spent over $6,000 in 2024 on nail-related products... omg what's wrong with me janixa? i am going to go sit in my corner of shame and re-evaluate my spending habits lololol
Haha oh man! Don’t worry, you are not alone! I could have easily spent that too! Maybe budgeting can help? Only allowing yourself to spend a certain amount each month?
The part where you talk about your expenses really sounds too familiar! 🙈 I've also spent a loooot of money on polish this year, also with the excuse that I'm buying them for making a RUclips video (I haven't added up everything, but the total will definitely be up there with yours 🙈). But at some point it's just too much to spend at nail polish, and it's not worth all the money and time. 😔 Thanks for being so open about this, it genuinly makes me feel less alone in this. ❤ And it makes total sense that you will be spending more time on Charmed Lacquer and your family and other stuff. I'm so happy for you that you're making these decisions for yourself! ❤
Thank you for sharing this! I'm surprised you didn't spend more honestly, especially if PBE was a huge chunk of it. I don't even want to know what I spent last year, phew. Not that it's an excuse, but I did get into stamping and spent quite a bit towards that. Definitely going to be doing more no-buy months this year!
PBE has been a big spending day for me every year. And it’s a lot of impulse buying. I need to slow it down and maybe have less money available for that day.
I don't blame you. It's expensive and so time consuming! Then after all that time and money, some people have the nerve to complain and make horrible comments towards creators - thinking they have the right to do so because you have public presence. I hope you still do the OPI collection swatches because your swatches arw always so early and help me to decide what to buy for my clients, but if these large companies arent paying you to swatch for them I dont blame you for prioritising your own brand.
Oh yes, some people can be incredibly critical and entitled. I try to ignore them. I may still do some collection swatches. Especially if some catch my eye!
Welp, I spent over $2500. This is including non-lacquer items like gel polishes, stamping plates, swatch sticks, loose glitters, etc. I'm excluding thrift store finds and Amazon purchases - a LOT of these so impossible to count all of them 😅 I even destashed 50 polishes to make space for my Black Friday haul. I am now on a low/no buy. Mainly because I am out of space! So if I decide I really need a polish or collection, I'm gonna need to destash at least one item. My overall feeling, thinking about my 2024 nail purchases is like...... just when I thought I already had everything I could possibly need, there'd be another banger release that I absolutely had to have. I think I have enough polishes and nail art stuff to create a good enough ("inspired by!!") dupe for anything that catches my eye in 2025.
Isn’t it so easy to buy and not realize how much we spend? It’s crazy! I think I’m on a low buy this year too. I won’t say no buy because we have already established I don’t have much self control lol.
Last year I spent 577. The year before was 434. I definitely want to cut down. I started collecting in 2021 and have 584 polishes. I'd like to get through my untrieds so I can start rewearing things. I think I'm at 4 manicures for the year. I don't track it. But I average 3 a week.
Hi Janixa! I think you are making wise decisions about your life and your business. You started out doing one thing and doing it very well. Over time your focus and your goals changed. Now with all that is going on with the great success of your Charmed Lacquer it’s time to reassess and make necessary changes as you see fit. You are making wise decisions! As for how much you spent on polishes this year both for swatching for we your fans and for your personal enjoyment remember your original reason for doing this was for therapy! Now you are shifting your purposes. Wisely, you are taking stock of your purchases, how you want to grow your business, how you want to spend your finances, etc. You are experiencing the need to make some necessary changes for where and how you want to spend your time, your effort, your finances and how you want to expand your business. It’s all good because you are experiencing growing pains! How wonderful, Janixa! It means you are not stagnant- you are growing! I hope you won’t feel guilty about what you spent on your polishes! You love them and I’m sure you are also checking out ways to make the polishes you love to wear personally! Consider it your therapy and your search for what types of polishes you would like to make for your business! I love your honesty, your openness, your willingness to really search yourself for things you may need to change. You have such a well thought out approach to your life and your business. I love you, your channel and your polishes, Janixa! You are doing fine! Enjoy the process! God bless you, your family and your business!🤗♥️💅🏻
@ Janixa, the fact that you want your business to be the best it can be is completely obvious to your subscribers! You have a beautiful intensity about you when you speak about it! Of course, you have also told us that this business has been your heart’s desire for years! And that dream has finally come true! I await your shimmers with excitement! ♥️
I think it’s very brave of you to get on here and be so transparent. I would have thought that you had way more polishes than what you do. I guess because you did so many reviews in the past. We all need to do what’s best for ourselves. I completely get it. I’ve already started a low-buy for this year. I did a no-buy for the first 6 months last year and was successful but after that I went way overboard. I decided this year to just tread the water and not drown. Thanks for doing the sit down chit-chat. Do what’s best for you and your new company. You have to invest in something for it to grow. I want that for your brand. You have started something beautiful so keep it growing! I know you have it in you and I look forward to seeing it happen. Thanks again and take care! I’m so happy for you!
I'm honestly afraid to keep track of what i spend on nail polishes, although i don't think (or at least i hope...) it's more than 50euros/ month. I don't need that kins of negativity in my life :)))
No need to defend your choices. I think I speak for more than me when I say I didn't know how you did all you were doing. Part of the reason I like reviews is because I can see a trial without spending the money. So yeah, totally understand wanting to direct your money and time elsewhere.
All I hear is $3500 spent in R&D! As a person that always worked in industries that started as hobbies, I never felt guilty of spending a bit extra on what seems a hobby expense cause it actually offers value to my work. As long as you are not hurting your family, never feel guilty or ashamed to splurge a little, especially when it relates to the industry of your main income source
You made me look at my polish purchases for the last year Janixa...why? Why did I do that? Across all brands I bought from, which was only 4 (including yours ☺️), I spent just over $800. That's actually a cut down from the last few years since I became a SAHM this last year. It's somehow both more and less than I thought. $500 of it was solely on Holo Taco (gotta keep that Holo Royalty status am I right?) Looking at things more, I actually didnt start buying until April of this year, so that's pretty good. :) I will be keeping a closer eye on my spending this year. Thanks for the update and encouraging us all to be more mindful of our spending; not that I'm saying you need to, this is literally you job, I have no such excuse!! 😂
I can ship internationally by placing a manual order. If you’d like to buy, please contact me via Charmed Lacquer’s Instagram and I can let you know the cost of shipping and send an invoice!
I'm a fun keep on searching I get it family first my Roger pass a way one year ago so I I live in a budget $0 on polish is sad but I have 200 polishes I do lots combos and stamping I love you I will keep on waching❤❤❤
I was guessing 3200! Felt like i was on the price is right lol but hey, money comes and goes, chalk this up as research for your business. Happy new year! Let's shoot for 6k this year jk
Is your youtube channel considered a business in its own right? I'm just wondering if you could write off some of your polish purchases as business expenses since you bought them to review on your channel, which I assume generates some income for you. I'm daughter to an acccountant that specializes in self employed clients here in Canada, mostly fisherman, but I think similar principles would apply in the US. I spent many years working with my mom and picked up a lot of accounting knowledge even though I've never studied it formally, mostly helping her during income tax season with those self employed income tax returns. Just a thought that crossed my mind as you were discussing your polish expenses not related to Charmed Laquer.
I believe it counts as though I’m an independent contractor. This year I will be having an accountant do my personal and business taxes so we’ll see how it goes!
With the 2024 gifted PR 653 bottles, collection is now around 1800? So, over one third of your current collection was acquired by gift in one calendar year? That is really something. And that doesn't include purchases, which, at $3400, works out to be maybe 200-300 bottles? And you had received over 1000 PR bottles the previous year? I only discovered your channel last year, so I'm probably missing some context, but that's impressive if you started your channel with near nothing, but went on to acquire most of your collection by PR gift. All this does lead me to wonder what a swatcher chooses to spend their own money on, when so much is gift. Hard-to-find limited edition indies? Swanky luxury brands? I'm genuinely curious! I scrolled back through some video titles and didn't see any hauls or swatches of that nature, so maybe my guesses are way off. Anyway, good luck to you in the coming year. I'm still building a collection, but now that I've got around 150 bottles, I've got my basics, I've destashed several that weren't quite right for me, I've fine-tuned what my preferences are, so I can probably really slow down this year and enjoy making combos with what I already have. Shop-my-stash or dupe-it-out videos are fun options if you decide that you still want to put out relevant content but not be constantly swatching new PR polishes 💅
A lot of the polishes I received in PR for 2024 were indie brands. There were some mainstreams like Orly and Zoya. So, my spending was for collections from brands like Essie, Sally Hansen, China Glaze, Morgan Taylor, OPI and any other brand I enjoyed and didn’t get PR from.
I have a tip for you. Try using toppers to create different manicures for yourself. That way you will double the number of polishes you wear when you do that! As for the number of polishes you own, have you thought about selling off the polishes you buy to review on an Etsy account? (or did I miss that you already do that?) And I like how you keep such a positive attitude! Rose
That’s a good idea! I do have to get better at using my toppers! I do sell polishes on my destash page on IG. I’ve sold thousands of polishes in the past 3-4 years!
It is really nice to hear your honesty about how the ways nail polish has helped you, but also how you have changed and grown into a small business owner. You should feel really proud of yourself!
Thank you 💜
I'm so excited to see your business grow. I hope to see more content about Charmed Lacquer, and the ins and outs of owning a small business.

Where is the Polish Expo this year? Yes a cash envelope is definitely a good idea😁
Tinley Park, IL
Ooh, I’ll have to get over to Instagram!
It’s @naillacquerdestash.
That's amazing on PR 😮💅
It is!
😞 regarding not as many swatch and reviews in 2025 but totally get it. 👍 You were definetly the queen of swatcharoos 😉
A title I was proud of. 😂😂
3,400 on nail polish!? You go, girl! 😂💚
😂
Last year I spent 577. The year before was 434. I definitely want to cut down. I started collecting in 2021 and have 584 polishes. I'd like to get through my untrieds so I can start rewearing things. I think I'm at 4 manicures for the year. I don't track it. But I average 3 a week.
3 a week is great!
Thank you so much for your kind words! 😭 I really do want to make my business the best it can be!
I do the same with cash.
I realise how much I spend.
I didn't think that was that much to spend but possibly because I'm in Australia 😂
😂😂
Thank you so much Lisa! 💜
I'm honestly afraid to keep track of what i spend on nail polishes, although i don't think (or at least i hope...) it's more than 50euros/ month. I don't need that kins of negativity in my life :)))
lol I get it! I was in pain adding everything up. 😂😂
💜💜💜
Don't worry, I admire your honesty 🙏
💜💜💜
Buying from Charmed Lacquer doesn’t count. 😉😂
@@naillacquertherapy 😂 Oh wonderful!! I've only spent around $740 then, yay!! Saving so much money buying from you. 🤣 Lmao
@ 😂😂
Good insights.
💜💜💜
Do you ship overseas to France ?
I can ship internationally by placing a manual order. If you’d like to buy, please contact me via Charmed Lacquer’s Instagram and I can let you know the cost of shipping and send an invoice!

Yes, I currently own just a little over that amount.
@@naillacquertherapy so Impressive
I was guessing 3200! Felt like i was on the price is right lol but hey, money comes and goes, chalk this up as research for your business. Happy new year! Let's shoot for 6k this year jk
😂😂
Live and learn. Maybe you should do quarterly reports for yourself to see how much money your spending and how much you're bringing in.
Good idea!
Wow 653❤
Crazy huh?
😅 About $200 yt profit 😉
