- This is a quick and unedited video of my near brand new condition Liberty HD-100 Quick Vault failure that I discovered after accidentally bumping it against my car seat bracket while retrieving it from underneath.. The safe opens up when tapped or bumped on the corner near the locking mechanism.
I apologize for the shakiness of the video. I was recording with my left hand while attempting to duplicate the failure with my right. :)
I just hope this is just an isolated QC mishap but either way, to me the performance of this product could've easily put me and my family in a very dangerous predicament during those times I was using it to safeguard my EDC..
UPDATE:
After leaving a comment in their website, a Liberty rep actually contacted me even before I got the chance to call them and offered to send me a replacement. To me that's good customer service. I received the new one and although it's no longer opening with just a tap, I just use it for small item storage and not to keep my edc safe from unwanted hands. For that, I went with a much robust & reliable safe.
Okay I just screamed when I saw what happened! I was about to buy one of those! Thank you for saving me
So do I 😳
Replace that Cheap assist spring on the lid lift piston (that wears out in a year anyway) with a recoil spring for a Smith and Wesson 6906 an that will never happen again... The factory spring is too weak and doesn't keep good pressure against the locking mechanism. Its a 5 minute job with a pair of needle nose pliers and a couple of bucks for the spring at your favorite outlet (MidwayUSA, Brownells, etc)
For real?
One shouldn't need to fix a new product.
I did my code and hear battery trying to open lid but nothing happened. So I took a large crescent wrench and banged on base side where he did and it opened on the 5th hit. I hit where he did but on base with medium force.
Yup I got another one on my hd 200
Is the new one still working good
Yes. I have it in my car. I often find myself giving it a hammer fist after closing it just to check and see and so far it's holding up. 🙃
Try doing that with the HD200
Lost my key and saw this video. Thought no way this will open .. Tapped GENTLY on side as in video but with edge biding of a soft book and it popped right open. Reached out to Liberty and they wont do anything for me because out of warranty... Sad they wouldn't want to satisfy a customer with such an embarrassing bad product or at least faulty product. No need for a replacement key I can open whenever I want. There is a need for a gun safe that works.
Oh man that sucks! So sorry the company won't do anything to correct something that's obviously a product defect not to mention very very unsafe.
I now use mine as storage for important trinkets but pretty much no cash value that I don't wanna misplace around the house.
Where are you hitting exactly
On the the side? I locked my keys inside the unit and the keypad battery is dead. Mine would have been manufactured probably around the same time as yours.
Did this ever get resolved?
TacticalTupperware Yes, it did.. Liberty sent me a new one, which is function perfectly. 🙃
njrx7t2 awesome. I just ordered one but almost didn't due to this video. Glad you got some resolution. That was a very bizarre fail...
Was about to buy the hd 300.This video has me worried that Liberty sells junk
What is he doing.... *smacks with wood block* OH NO lmao. I'm wading through the pool of pistol safes at the moment. Definitely not getting that.
That scared me. I just bought one in Tulsa, June 4th. Thankfully mine Does NOT have that flaw. (I felt like a moron, smacking the side of my new safe with a block of wood.)
Yeah, I hope for everyone's sake it was just an isolated case.. Nevertheless, good luck with yours and stay safe! 👍
Wow
Oh good, now people know how to break into them....
Useless
