This anime should be more popular, in my opinion
Lack of advertisement i think. Plus its a netflix exclusive
@@merlynnnz3730 yeah
It just popped out of nowhere in my Netflix notifications. It's very good!
*in everyone opinion
It’s just new
this song makes me wanna try to scam a French guy in japan
I love this comment so fucking much why does it not have more likes and comments
*belgian
@@josefikrakowski Nani TF you mean
actually you is right
Same same
Is nobody gonna talk about that sax player who just kept playing like a freaking God throughout most of that 7 minute song?
As a sax player myself, that guy has some serious talent there. I don't think I'd be able to ever play this, even if I practiced it daily for a year.
This man has the biggest lungs in the world
@@joeldowell5059 If you keep transcribing solos like this and practicing the right things (even not daily), it isn't an impossible task.
Some sax players I love to transcribe are Michael Brecker, Chris Potter, Ben Wendel, Jaleel Shaw and Seamus Blake. Not an easy task to transcribe, but extremely rewarding, don't give up! :)
I’m freaking out at the upright bassist
I personally can say that tone with his playing skills are top notch
This anime is a instant classic and my God the colors they use in this anime melt my eyes
it makes me long for life in the New York, however noisy it may be at times.
Van Gogh watercolor style(one story arc is about paintings so I think its not a coincidence in my comparison)
Is the word "melt" metaphorically meaning in a bad way?
(Sorry for my bad English)
@@RNalison no its meant in a good way!
@@RNalison it's good way . like when you eat sugar it melt
Fun Fact:
Great Pretender and Vinland Saga are both animated by Wit Studio and have the same OST composer
so is shingeki no kyojin
not the same composer tho i think
@@willschannel_, the composer of Snk is Hiroyuki Sawano, not Yutaka Yamada.
@@caioffsantos i know, i just didnt know who made the ost for GP
Fun fact:
played this on repeat typing my English report that was due in 30 minutes, finished it in 10
The best swindler in all of Japan
U scam urself
that didn't happen
@@PandaPanda-lm7vxdamn bro, I can't believe you were in my house 9 months ago watching me type my report--good thing I moved since :0
damn right, I was supposed to get an 80% on my essay but after playing this I got a 150%
...that sweet jazzy jam is out in full, blending the pulse-pounding beats of *Cowboy Bebop* 's TANK!, *Catch Me If You Can* and *Mad Men* 's minimalist cinematic aesthetics (in the style of Saul Bass), and *Baccano* 's jazzy energy.
A dash of intrigue, a healthy serving of wit and cunning, a dash of heart, heighten tension, and serve on the rocks.
Stirred, not shaken.
Its soo good
The fact that Cowboy bebops opening and this opening are both widely Bebop jazz inspired fills my heart with joy as jazz saxist and anime fan
@@whytheabsolutefuckdoihavea3691 I could say that GP has a lot of common things with Bebop with story, characters and comedy drama scenario
@@whytheabsolutefuckdoihavea3691 i once read that someone said GP opening is big band jazz. So is it actually big band or bebop?
We got a poet here!
This anime deserves sooo much more attention, I didn't really know what I was going into at first but it's so incredibly good.
This show is nominated for Best Girl(Abigail), Best Animation, Best Character Design, Great English VA(Laurent), Best OP, Best Ending, Best Drama, and Best Anime Of The Year... Let’s see if it wins at least one of these categories
I forgot to also include Best Director
Yeah I hope they win in one of those categories.
At the very least best ED. I mean come on, they used Freddy freaking Mercury
To be honest, it deserves them all. This may be the best anime in years, I still don't get it why it seems to be so overlooked by lots of people
@@alessandromazza4557 me too man, i wish people gived it a chance
Normal people doing online tests: Oh, i'm gonna listen to a meditation song for keeping calm
Great pretender Fans:
Real chads use Merzbow
This anime is underrated.
That last arc that just released was *chef kiss*. Such an amazing anime
great animation style, great soundtrack, fun characters, gripping story, hilariously convoluted twists, idk why this show isn't more popular
6:46 this is what plays when i successfully hide my DS under my pillow *just* before my mum opens the door
underrated comment
2:07-4:00 is premium smooth jazz, sax and keyboard players killed it
don't forget dat juicy bass
Most devious lick
The last arc was a masterpiece one of my favorite arcs in anime
I was listening to this in the car- and just to let u know- I couldnt sit still. This song gets me hyped up at the start-
It's been a week since tae decided to drive into the wrong side of the freeway at 80mph, too hyped up from the song believing he'll pull a great pretender and fake his death, he wasn't the smartest man, but he was our friend, a brother, and a weaboo.
@@ollie7070 LMAOOOOO I DIED 😭😭😔🤚 BYE 🚪🚶🏽♂️
I can't help but think that in the Great Pretender universe, 1/3 of the world's population are dedicated scam artists.
4:03 was used in the 2nd trailer
5:50 when abby kicked Edumane ep1
6:50 when edamune and abby jumped out the window from the hotel
I like the different ways you spelled Edamame (Edamura)
Great observation and hearing!!
@@jjrpoektl1925 Lmao
Reminds me of Cowboy Bebop's opening "Tank!" until the slow part. The intermission feels like a completely different song and puts you in a different mood route but I do like how it builds back up while bringing the main tune back into the mix, especially the final transition.
Main theme(which has less minutes) is Bebop style
reminds me of both cowboy bebop and michiko & hatchin op
They really had the balls to make an entire 7 minute jazz opening for an anime. Oh how I love this!
this theme goes so hard
the animation is peak
Ngl slept on this until now XD
Did y’all know the Japanese VA for the old lady in GREAT PRETENDER is the same VA as Otose from Gintama?
Yeah she’s also orochimaru lol
Which old lady :")
@@purpledefaultpfp6233 that old lady with glasses that showed up on episode 1 and pretended to get swindled but she was actually a swindler herself.
@@ouuplq6142 ah the korean lady who used to be super sexy, according to laurent lol
I never even knew an amazing anime like this existed. Came across a video called "Meanwhile in America" with over 18M views and decided to give this anime a try.
Just finished watching it AND I SWEAR TO GOD IT WAS SO FUCKIN WORTH IT!
The amount of plot twists and even the drama but most of all Laurent- I freaking love that guy lmfao
This anime was just insane. Easily my top 1 anime from now on. I wish more ppl give it a try.
This opening reminds me so much of Cowboy Bebop, I love it. Probably the best anime of 2020, this should be more popular.
This anime is what you get when you throw Bebop, Lupin, and Baccano into a blender.
Finally someone who think of baccano !!
yummy smoothie
マフィアだろうと大富豪だろうとアートコレクターだろうと彼ら信用詐欺師にかかればひとたまりもない。そんな内容をギュッとまとめたようで非常にカッコいい
I'm so glad Ludwig added this to the playlist! I love this anime
It's rare that an anime really blows me away.
I cannot say enough good things about it. Reminds me of watching Berserk '97 or Samurai Champloo of the first time.
This is something special.
The anime, both season 1 and 2 are fire. Made me tear up in some scenes.
You know. I want to travel the world later. I will play this in my headphones once I can finally do that
Who disliked? Asking for a hitma- a friend. asking for a friend.
Sorry man ur gonna have to shoot the Internet because only dislike bots could hit that button
It was me please end my life
Just swindle the disliker.
I was gonna say it was the ones that got scammed by the cons of the anime XP
every. single. anime. with. a. jazz. opening. have. been. flawless. period.
Once I heard this opening I flipped my shit because MY GOD IS BEBOP JAZZ HARD TO PLAY (personally) its always amazing to see one of my favorite generes of music and anime fuse together also props to the sax player I inspire to be that good on bari some day
The full version is here boisss
Lupin the Third would be proud of this anime.
What an absolute BANGER and popping soundtrack!
When I heard this opening for the first time (in ep. 1), I thought, "Well, anime that has jazz opening can't be bad" and I wasn't wrong)
Probably in my top 3 OPs of all time, the jazz hits way to hard, man.
Makes me wanna wake up hanging from one of the letters on the Hollywood sign and to make drugs that don't even exist
My sister went travelling (by plane), but her car's tire needed to be changed while she was out. She wanted me to call someone to change it instead of just making me do it (she didn't trust my skills). She gave me money to pay whoever changed it, and told me I'd keep part of the money.
I changed it myself and kept all of the money she gave me. Both my parents were accomplices. Makoto Edamura would be proud.
For anyone it could interest I am pretty sure I found the musician that recorded for this song:
Drums: Cliff Almond
Bass: Orlando le Fleming, Oytun Ersan, John Davis
Piano: Geoffrey Keezer, Natalie Tenenbaum, Yutaka Yamada
Guitar: Nir Felder, David Cinquegrana
Trumpet: Brad Mason, Sam Hoyt, John Lake
Also Saxophone: Will Vinson
Tenor Saxophone: Roxy Coss
Baritone Saxophone: Eden Bareket
Trombone: Mike Fahle
Violin: Lavinia Pavlish
Viola: Tia Allen
Cello: Kristine Kruta
Recording Engineer: John Davis, Mitsunori Aizawa
Recording Studio: The Bunker Studio (STUDIO A) in Brooklyn, NY
This show is almost perfect in my opinion it has great music, great animation, good humor and an interesting plot.
This is my new favourite show. I can't get enough of it. Absolutely fantastic and I'm only 2 cases in. Phenomenal and definitely needs more attention.
This song cures my depression
This anime needs more attention, Its amazing, the arcs, the backstories, the references, the details aaand the music.
Just perfect ✨
im gonna guess the piano player was Yutaka because MY WORD he was shedding for that piano and sax solo 😭
Man, everything about this is super cool. So much unique moving parts in this opening, it's awesome.
I was supposed to get an 80% on my essay but after playing this I got a 150%
I'm pretty sure Ludwig uses this song whenever he gambles on stream
I... I'm doing it, Patrick! I'm developing a taste for freeform jazz!
I just thought of this collab: Lupin the Third with The Great Pretender. Now I want it to happen!

2 reasons i love this anime
1. ITS SO FREAKING GOOD WHAT
2. i watched this while my life was still stable 😂
just coomed. the instruments have taken my soul away to the heavens
I loved how they make Mike Portnoy reference in the 8th episode of this anime.
The English accent in the sub gets me all the time. It's funny okay.
I guess I'm a sucker for anime with big band jazz intros
bro i was in my feels when saw cynthias back story
Why has nobody made an alto cover of this yet, such a wonderful sax backup to piano and trumpet

Why do I feel like I want to swindle more money in our office while this song plays on my phone...
Music is "Great Pretender" theme song. If anyone is wondering.
this is the peak of jazz. jazz peaked here. there is not a single better jazz song than this one. caravan comes close though
I need live show of these
This show has great animation
Makes me feel like I'm looking at a bunch of random colors and my eyes getting waterboarded at the same time
Makes me feel like an international con man
i will be dancing to this at my wedding
グレプリマジでいい
Anime like this is what i hope. Anime was mistake.. yes but not *this kind of masterpiece*
This could be so well known if it was live-action, with actors playing different ethnicity (since the characters are from all around the world), but people could possible look down on it and not give it a chance since its anime
@@realkz3324 No that would not go well.
thanks Ludwig
