Thank you, finally found someone who explains the interface properly. Now confident enough to have a play. Others race through assuming you know all about the functions. I've never owned a scan n cut before. I've always had Cricut, but have treated myself, after hearing everyone in the Crafting world raving about it :-) Thank you again for your time.
Many thanks for the excellent video - Can I ask if it is possible to cut out a shape and then draw on the same shape - so essentially I want to cut and draw on the same shape - keeping everything precise - as I need a whole shape with internal markings. Many thanks for your time, Nicola
I would recommend using Canvas Workspace (canvasworkspace.brother.com/en) to design your shape and drawing detail. When you send it to your machine, do the drawing first, and then cut out the shape. Hope that helps.
Hi. Loved your video. I want to buy a cutting machine. So many crafters swear by scanncut. Which model is better? I'll be a first-time user of a cutting machine. Any website that ships it internationally? What stuff I need to buy along with the machine?
Thank you for your feedback. I have used other cutting machines in the past, but I find the Scan n Cut to be easiest to use as there are so many shapes appear onboard and it has a scanner, which shows you what is in your mat so you can place your designs in the correct place on the card or fabric. It also does lots more as you may already know. It budget allows, the DX models are easier to use because of the auto-blade function that automatically sets the blade depth and pressure so you don't have to. It's a little faster and quieter too. In the UK, the main distributor/retailer is Create and Craft shopping channel. An alternative is www.makerssuperstore.com who may ship internationally? Depending on where you are, there will be local distributors that you will be able to find from the Brother website sewingcraft.brother.eu/en/products/machines/scanncut
I have a question regarding outline distances, in a few of the older models they have the option of going from 0.04 to 0.06 to 0.08 and so on. On my SDX1200 it misses the 0.06 and goes instead from 0.04 to 0.08. Is this a new feature or is my machine faulty?
Thanks for the video. I want to buy a scan and cut machine to use for personalised gifts. Can I creat my own designs and also can I cut things like fondunt for cake.
Hi Florence You can create your own designs by using Scan n Cut Canvas Workspace which is an online design tool as well as a version you can download and install on Windows PC. The Scan n Cut is not food grade, so I wouldn't recommend it for cake decorating. canvasworkspace.brother.com/en
Hi Tim, thanks for your tutorials, they’re very informative. I’m thinking of buying the SDX1200. I have no experience whatsoever, but would like to use it for making stencils. Do I need a computer to do so? I would want to create my own designs, but only have a 2017 iPad Pro. Thanks - Risi, from Lagos, Nigeria
Hello and thank you for your kind comments. While a computer is helpful, it is not absolutely necessary with the Scan n Cut machines because of the built-in screen. That said, you will find it easier to use Brother's Canvas Workspace online application via your internet browser. This also works with the iPad Pro. You can register to use the software for free, so you can try it before you commit to buying a machine. The url is canvasworkspace.brother.com - there is also a downloadable version for both Windows and Mac.
Can this machine scan images printed on glossy sticker paper? The Cricut doesn't seem to be able to handle them and I'm looking for a replacement machine that can.
Hello and thank you for your question. I haven't tried using glossy paper myself so am unable to confirm. My friend John Bloodworth (gentlemancrafteruk) is an expert on all things ScannCut and he may be able to help with your question. instagram.com/p/CL6g0AMCZsg/?igshid=bd2p1uegx915
Hi could you tell me if you can use mats from the cm600 on the new Sdx1200 machine please? Just got this new machine and have new unused mats from my old machine but they won’t feed in. Can you help please?
Chrissy McDonald Hi. I haven't had any problems with my machine. All the mats I own have been fine. If you're having problems with your machine, you could contact Brother support who will be able to help.
Chrissy McDonald he Chrissy I just found this ladies channel and she seemed to be very knowledgeable about these mat loading issues ruclips.net/video/tXyptk1Vo88/видео.html I hope it helps 😊
Hello Jeanette. That’s a fair comment. When I made my video very few DX machines were available and most seemed to have been bought by existing users of the CM series. Thank you for your feedback and I will bear it in mind when I get around to making more videos.
Yes! Did manage to get things sorted! It seems the black screen, flashed green LED was due to a timeout...ie the update download process bar showed complete....but it did not install the download.....hung up and timed out. Restarted added a new machine name and set it up...removed the old one...and all is well!

This is the easiest to follow tutorial I have watched. Thank you.
Thank you for taking the time to give me feedback. Glad you found it of use.

Hi Tim, can this work to engrave onto plywood boards (crochet bases)?
Hi Dominique. Unfortunately, the Scan n Cut isn't designed for engraving on wood, so it is doubtful that you would be able to engrave onto plywood.

Hmmm, I may have got that wrong. Just watched a video on the CM350 and it did not have a 0.06 cutting outline, so I must have imagined it.
I was about to check my machine for you, so thank you for getting back to me.

Good day may please be assisted with the blade settings of cutting the cardstock
Hello. The SDX1200 uses an automatic blade setting system, so you don't need to adjust any settings.

Hi is it possible to use the SDX1200 without the mats?
Hello. No, you must use a mat when using the machine expect when using the vinyl roller
Hi could you tell me if you can use mats from the cm600 on the new Sdx1200 machine please? Just got this new machine and have new unused mats from my old machine but they won’t feed in. Can you help please?
Hello. Unfortunately, you can't use CM series mats with the SDX machines.
Hi I get my pattern up where I want and when I click to cut it says" no pattern in the effective area yet the screen before was fine, any clues?
if it was in blue, it was draw only shape.
Hi now youve had your machine a while have you experienced any mat loading issues?

Why is it that so many videos assume everyone has been using a previous scan n cut
