Himatsuri is one of those shows that gets better every single episode, because not only does the story stack on top of its self, so does the charavter development, character flaws, and most importantly the jokes. For instance, Neeta’s sistee was used as the main joke of one episode like 4 weeks ago and ahe showed up this week as a pivotal role in one of the jokes this week.
Hinamatsuri is one of those rare case which play the story and the comedy in non-comical approach. Most anime when it comes to comedy, they deliver the punch in most exaggerating way by turning it into comical figure then slap it for a momentary joke. _ex : Transforming into chibi figure then proceed to uppercut the dude through the limit of the sky just because he touch da boobies._ In reality, the dude is literal dead meat. But in Hinamatsuri, such comical moment is rarely happened. It's like the joke is trying to meet the most realistic approach as possible. That way the audience could relate and actually feel it. _ex : Nitta spins Hina out of joy. Leg meet wall corner. Hina's actually broke her leg._
Anzu is a very pure character. I can say that over the years, there obly a handful of anime series that made me cry. Hinamatsuri is one of them and it's supposed to be a comedy!
It might be a bit early but I really think Hinamatsuri is arguably the best comedy splice of life anime this year, even with some of the chapters (from manga) not animated. The creator really know how to make such a relatable heroines.
Croz Raven definitely my top 10 anime of all time. I binged the first 3 episodes a month into the season and immediately read the entire Manga in one sitting.
At first I was reaaaaaally conscious about Hinamatsuri, the premise looked weird but I gave it a go anyway. And I absolutely ADORED it. Honestly, one of the best comedy in years :D (excluding KonoSuba)
Some of the humor is so fucking smart I can't even believe it.. I mean having the teacher come in and "believe" she isn't actually his student..that is funny. Having him come back in again and tell some other kids she looks just like her but isnt actually her..That is even better. Making Hina talk to his student and then cut over to him quickly lying to himself about Hina just being someone who looks like his student as well only to take a sip as if nothing is wrong..Just..fucking amazing. Like the fact it is so stupid not even the character believe is but just choose to believe it..that is seriously great and remove that whole "Wow that teacher is an idiot" aspect of it.
altaf ahmad What do you mean? Saiki Kusou is one of my favorite anime of all time :D . But I consider Saiki to be a parody comedy and not solely a comedy anime. That is why I also excluded KonoSuba
fukris Not necessarily, Austalia and New Zealand are often considered part of the West, Western society is more of a cultural and political concept rather than a geographical one.
hinamatsu is so underated anime of the year, i hope this video make atention for who looking best comedy with amazing animation, love hinamatsuri love your video
I started watching this after 9 episodes had aired, when I heard its name being mentioned in several videos, and its awesome! I've already got the first volume of the manga on preorder, I hope this gets a second season, one of the best comedy anime I've seen.
Anzu is the best girl. So kind and sweet. She started off being low key annoying and then somehow developed into the sweetest, most likeable character in the entire show. I just want to adopt her and shower her with gifts and love. 🤗
Why are people commenting that they agree with Matt before enough time passed for them to watch the video, even at double speed? I mean, it's better than people calling his opinions stupid before watching the video, but it's still weird. (Having watched the video, I must admit that the commenters are right; Hinamatsuri _does_ sound like a pretty cool show.)

I love how they open it with super powered girl but then focused on her character... Like every each episode, she show more and more emotion... If you read the manga, after 3 years she finally get a lot of emotions and expressions in her character
I hope they make a second season. Season 1 ends with a 3-year time-skip, but we only see one side character who aged up - we don't get to see Hina and Anzu grow up, which they do in the manga. One of my favourite things is watching characters grow up, and it's so heartwarming to see how Hina and Nitta's father/daughter relationship grow overtime (and NOT got down the creepy Usagi Drop path).
I watched this show while being in a tough Economic life situation , and it made me appreciate the dynamic Nature of life and purpose, it is currently my top anime of 2018, last years were made in abyss.
The part about Hinamatusri knowing when to back off with the comedy is spot on. There's one episode in particular dealing with Anzu that got some wet works going despite the beginning of said episode being pretty funny. Here's to hoping that the rest of the year's anime turn out as well as this show.
the humus Agree. The material in manga is solid comedy gold. My opinion about the characters and what to expect when the mangaka start with each new chapter is like: On Hina chapter is always WTF moment or you loss all hope in humanity. On Hitomi chapter, the ending is always facepalm and ironic. On Anzu chapter, 100% Feels and Faith in humanity restore. The character became interesting in each chapter. Even small character like Sabu, Nitta underling, have key moments that can ensued hilarity by the end of the chapter. I hope this series get more love. Still waiting for the tankoubon get released on my country so I can support the mangaka.
Hinamatsuri is my favorite show this anime season. The perfect slice of life comedy to slip in when ReLife ended. The characters are rich in presentation. Hina's deadpan delivery, in both Japanese and the English dub. Watching it with my grandkids has given us a "catch phrase" that cracks us up. Salmon Roe. Well, that and Owie. Having read the scanlators manga translations, I plan on ordering the Official English translations as they come out. Speaking of the manga, there are points that were totally ignored, but Feel kept enough of it that focused on the main characters. True, sometimes it seemed like it was Anzumatsuri or Hitomimatsuri, but focusing on those characters was important to show their interaction with each other and the world around them. The manga is great, and I advise everyone to read it because, even with the condensing of the story, Feel was able to get it right. Too many times the book is nothing like the show. Not so with Hina.
This has joined konosuba as the only anime that has made me consistently laugh out loud. What I find most endearing is the amount of heart they sneak in (must protecc anzu)
I'm just sad it only has one episode left.... ;_; I started watching Hinamatsuri from it's second week airing, after 4 episodes, I'd decided that if it stayed this good till the end? It was going on my ALL TIME favorites list! :D Also Hitomi best girl 2018! :P
Sometimes, it's really pisses me off how almost no one in this content form mentions the source material. It doesn't matter how much passion FEEL put into this, if the source material sucked, this would too.
It's my understanding that Japaneses' Standards and Practices limits how much you can do with the yakuza in a show, or at least an anime. From what I've heard there were story arcs from the manga involving the yakuza because of that. This includes one that explains why Hina isn't using her powers as much as she did. I found out about that because was wondering about that since in the first episode they established that if Hina doesn't use her powers regularly the energy will build up and explode. I still haven't read the manga, so I don't know what that was. I assume there might be a similar thing about the homeless. This could be why we don't often see yakuza or the homeless in anime, as they are walking on egg shells.
Watched the show already up to what I could without premium, and it’s great. Still wondering what the fuck is going on with that sad island psychic girl. And was there legitimately 200 days time skipped that she was on that island?
I agree with this review. Having lived in Tokyo for many years I can really relate to the seedy bar and men’s club sessions. Seeing a young girl in these establishments is a real paradox and the humour is very good. This is a good show and I almost missed it. Hina was really annoying in the first episodes and I stopped watching it, but then due to a lack of stuff to watch I slugged it out and by episode 3 was loving it.

I know this is really late but please watch one episode of Princess Principal even just the sword fight scene and I promise you’ll be hooked even just the OP please. Its an anime that didnt get any spotlight last year and tbh if it got enough attention it wouldve been an AOTY nominee.
dont worry. hitomi basically creates Hina, Anzu, and Mao to become the political leader in Japan. Real though, Hinamatsuri was a manga first. Its been out for a long time now so its not really the studio's story. They just pretty much animated the manga. Nothing new from the anime. The story sequences are slightly different timeline wise but its the same story.
The homeless guy in this show needs to win best Hero at next crunchyroll anime awards.
True story.
Hitomi should be best girl
Would agree but AllMight deserves it after today’s episode
Two words:
All. Might.
[ Duwang_Mn ] yes I consider Hitomi as best girl. But she lacks romance. My best girl is still shuvi from no game no life zero
Himatsuri is one of those shows that gets better every single episode, because not only does the story stack on top of its self, so does the charavter development, character flaws, and most importantly the jokes. Kuro DCupu I agree, I think the people who didn't like this is because they are so used to the over-the-top exaggeration in lots of anime today
Exactly. I found that funny!
Spot on about the exaggeration, this is why I prefer this over Konasuba
Toucha da boobs
Anzu is a very pure character. I can say that over the years, there obly a handful of anime series that made me cry. Hinamatsuri is one of them and it's supposed to be a comedy!
Best part of Nitta's career is that he not a "real" Yakuza, he's just a really good accountant turned into muscle because of Hina's outburst
Bro Tato I love how the old man acts like a grandpa around Hina
@@reke9942 Lol! You should see him when he finds out a boy wants to ask out Hina. He comes out of retirement to try and kill the boy.
Anzu is best girl
Anzu is best girl. She is an angel. People who think Hitomi is best girl clearly have some unresolved masochistic tendencies.
An angel
Cedric Pañebe Anzu is too pure for us weebs
Am I the only one who thinks she looks a lot like Winry (FMA)?
FBI OPEN UP
Hinamatsuri's overwhelming wholesomeness is... Something we mortal sinners do not deserve, but were given anyway.
It might be a bit early but I really think Hinamatsuri is arguably the best comedy splice of life anime this year, even with some of the chapters (from manga) not animated. The creator really know how to make such a relatable heroines.
Depends on how well grand blue does tbh
Croz Raven definitely my top 10 anime of all time. I binged the first 3 episodes a month into the season and immediately read the entire Manga in one sitting.
you spelled ANZUmatsuri wrong
At first I was reaaaaaally conscious about Hinamatsuri, the premise looked weird but I gave it a go anyway. And I absolutely ADORED it. Honestly, one of the best comedy in years :D (excluding KonoSuba)
Some of the humor is so fucking smart I can't even believe it..
I mean having the teacher come in and "believe" she isn't actually his student..that is funny.
Having him come back in again and tell some other kids she looks just like her but isnt actually her..That is even better.

bibbobella yeah ... some of the comedy is brilliant. & a comedy about homeless is something so rare.
altaf ahmad What do you mean? Saiki Kusou is one of my favorite anime of all time :D . But I consider Saiki to be a parody comedy and not solely a comedy anime. That is why I also excluded KonoSuba
Yo why am I crying every time Anzu is on screen
How is this show overlooked in the west? In China this show is blowing up right now.
Yixuan Liu it seems to be creating a niche community. But I don't know how popular it is
different sense of humor and the fact that anime has a niche scene compared to the western population as a whole.
Yixuan Liu don't think China is considered the west. West normally means western hemisphere and western Europe.
fukris Not necessarily, Austalia and New Zealand are often considered part of the West, Western society is more of a cultural and political concept rather than a geographical one.
Lex the Graceful Rival you're absolutely right. But my original point still stands that China does not count as the west.
hinamatsu is so underated anime of the year, i hope this video make atention for who looking best comedy with amazing animation, love hinamatsuri love your video
Its such a good show and im glad people are talking about it
Anzu the guardian angel
I started watching this after 9 episodes had aired, when I heard its name being mentioned in several videos, and its awesome! I've already got the first volume of the manga on preorder, I hope this gets a second season, one of the best comedy anime I've seen.
Hinamatsuri and Megalobox are my favorites anime of this season. A season full of great anime.
Anzu is the best girl. So kind and sweet. She started off being low key annoying and then somehow developed into the sweetest, most likeable character in the entire show. I just want to adopt her and shower her with gifts and love. 🤗
Agreed. Character progression at its finest. Also, best girl/daughter.
a hidden gem, every episode was so pleasing to watch, huge let down when i realised there was no episodes coming after the 12th...
Lol yeah that actually happens on just about every video....
It’s easily one of the best shows to come out so far this year.
If you've seen the show then you agree based off the title.
It was an amazing anime though.
On top of being funny as fuck, Hinamatsuri put me in tears like no show has done in a long time.
Anzu surely is BEST GIRL!!! I want to see more of Mao too!!!
Actual forgotten gem this season is HisoMiso. Netflix jail strikes again.
Bless this
Hiso maso*
Love this show, it gives me the good feels
Bro this anime is so good. I'm glad i watched it.
Watched this vid, then went straight to watching the first 3 episodes. This show is an absolute blast (': thanks for suggesting it

This anime is great, we need a second season.
The manga is a masterpiece!
I love how they open it with super powered girl but then focused on her character... Like every each episode, she show more and more emotion... If you read the manga, after 3 years she finally get a lot of emotions and expressions in her character
Definitely the funniest anime of the season, maybe even even the entire year. ^_^
I hope they make a second season. Season 1 ends with a 3-year time-skip, but we only see one side character who aged up - we don't get to see Hina and Anzu grow up, which they do in the manga.

That because the source material is Excelent, its stay mostly faithfull to manga. and the manga not well known despite how good it is
the humus Agree. The material in manga is solid comedy gold.

You just earned a sub, my dude.
Absolutely love this anime
An Anime I'll never regret watching. One of the best underdog series that is actually a treasure.
I love that sharp look Hitomi gave that cow, Utako in the last episode.
Not to mention the stellar animation quality that managed to stay consistent throughout
I read the manga for this last year and randomly found the anime last month.....blessed
I came for the "Watashi no smartphone ga" and stayed for basically everything. The Anzu arcs are so good.
i think you miss the point of hinamatsuri, but yes i agree this anime is one of the best this season, maybe one of the best of the year
You can even spot ppl dispersing from the ed when they got irrelevant or missing

People are sleeping on this show amd its fucking killin me, we need a second season for this show.
god i cant wait to cry like a baby and hurt my stomach because of laughing in one episode the season 2 release.
This has joined konosuba as the only anime that has made me consistently laugh out loud. What I find most endearing is the amount of heart they sneak in (must protecc anzu)

Which is why it's good that the manga was also excellent. Didn't hear of either till a month or so ago, but I've binged it all since :)
Hinamatsuri's a great show. Here's to season 2!
The anime is a perfect adaptation, but the manga is a damn masterpiece
4:59 Oh, let's see what they made... Wait, they made THAT!?!?!? No no no no no no no
Not to mention, a comedy anime having a better fight choreography than most action anime. (looking at episode 1 start and episode 12 end.)
This show is so amazing. I love it so much.
I love the Hitomi working parts hilarious face reactions love that girl
I fucking love this show.
Best comedy anime this year
I really love this anime. At first I just wanna see how it goes , I fall for it since ep.1 lol
Holy shit! Someone talking about Ixion Saga DT?! Duuuude, that's nice
every character is human,.. that's why i love this anime so much,... the manga is the best tho,.. made me cry even though it is a comedy show
I LOVE ANZUMATSURI! LIKE, FUCKING FOREVER IN MY HEART
Anzu's story makes me cry like lil bitch. This anime is great.
Hina is total badass

Comedy show? I fucking cried during the homeless arc.
This show is a blast! I love it.
Thanks
Studio feels :’(
Watched the show already up to what I could without premium, and it’s great. Still wondering what the fuck is going on with that sad island psychic girl. And was there legitimately 200 days time skipped that she was on that island?
The bad thing about this anime is that it omits a LOT of content that was in the original Manga.
Filler? What's that? Here we cut content! XD.
Why did cut that 420 backflip at the end......
This show is awesome
I agree with this review. Having lived in Tokyo for many years I can really relate to the seedy bar and men’s club sessions. Seeing a young girl in these establishments is a real paradox and the humour is very good. This is a good show and I almost missed it. Hina was really annoying in the first episodes and I stopped watching it, but then due to a lack of stuff to watch I slugged it out and by episode 3 was loving it.
I know what your talking about and I agree with you
Is there somewhere that we can find the music that he uses? The song sounds really good!
Haven't watched this show but I'll start it tomorrow
Yeah you will definitely love it!
Most of these had either manga or light novel released long time ago, so nothing is new... people who follows the anime to just remind themselves the manga
Alan Chen well its easier to adapt a story that exist first rather than make entirely original anime
Kara Iura ur point is too obvious, all I'm saying is these anime are not 'new'
I like how you pronounced "Anzu" earlier in the video and how you pronounce it then later on in the video
I love the manga
I know this is really late but please watch one episode of Princess Principal even just the sword fight scene and I promise you’ll be hooked even just the OP please. Its an anime that didnt get any spotlight last year and tbh if it got enough attention it wouldve been an AOTY nominee.
I completely agree. However, please don’t spoil the latest episode next time.
Is "subversion of expectation" 2018's new buzzphrase?
song name?
dont worry. hitomi basically creates Hina, Anzu, and Mao to become the political leader in Japan. Real though, Hinamatsuri was a manga first. Its been out for a long time now so its not really the studio's story. They just pretty much animated the manga. Nothing new from the anime. I didnt know the anime and thought the girl was Earth chan
Amazing anime
Anzu is best girl.
Can someone please tell me the name of the intro song
Dub or Sub
Either.
wtf happened at 2:22 ? Did your face stop working?
i almost dropped this show after the first episode, because i thought it's your typical "minor with superpowers abuses rich adult" comedy.
Ah now I know why the drawings look kinda similar to Tsuki Ga Kirei!
BTW I like the story surrounding Hitomi the most.
Jon Son hitomi did nothing wrong lol
