Fun (and morbid) fact: if you do the snowman heat action, it becomes an item you can pick up and attack with, and like any other item it breaks into nothingness when you use the given amount of hits. I’ll let you take in the implications of what that means

If Saejima were to sing a full lyrics to the thugs:
    "You better watch out
    You better not cry
    Better not pout
    I'm telling you why
Santa Saejima is coming to town
    He's making a list,
    And checking it twice;
Gonna find out who's naughty and nice.
Santa Saejima is coming to town
He sees you when you're scamming
    He knows when you're bullies
He knows if you've thugs or goon
So be good for goodness sake!
    O! You better watch out!
    You better not cry.
Better not pout, I'm telling you why.
Santa Saejima is coming to town."
Another fun fact is that in this substory itself that 1) The solely added the Christmas song pun in the Remastered 2) In the original the kids say they 'tweeted' the post which obviously Saejima never heard of Twitter before.

Now we have touched down on Sapporo! Look at all that empty space to run around in! It would be a shame if _this was considered the worst city by the fandom to travel in despite police not being _*_nearly_*_ an issue like Y4._
Yeah, so you might be slightly disappointed to know that most players like Sapporo the *least* in the series, not for its design or entertainment places, but *just how many invisible walls are just placed around roads, etc.* The map makes you think you can roam across open wide spaces when in reality many of the roads have these walls stopping you a lot.
Okay so why does this make it the “worst” of the Y5 cities? The encounter rate becomes pretty annoying here because the *invisible walls keep you restrained a lot so the hordes of punks congregate way easier to interrupt you.* And general players did not like this, especially after having to deal with 3 chapters of not being in the city. If the devs were to bring this city back without any invisible walls on the map, this would have been one of RGG's top city sections, but I digress. Let’s mention a few things first.
*One,* there is a new collectible in a similar vein to Kiryu’s garbage collection all around referred to as map scraps. I recommend you go collect them all since one of them is insanely good for Saejima.
*Two,* I assume you already invested a Mystery Stone to Kamiyama before so if you get another one as Saejima, don’t invest it as you need multiple later.
*Three* Essence of Bell Ringing is a returning Heat Action but you might be excited to know that if you _grab a standing enemy and throw them into a wall for them to get stuck on it,_ *it MAKES the heat action infinitely easier to trigger than bouncing on a wall.*
*Last,* the DLC packs in the convenience stores to get as Saejima is 3 & 8. Don’t forget to claim them. Also yes, Saejima also needs to do the Victory Road too, it usually takes a bit so keep trying to find them.

Now that it's been a few chapters and it seems clear that Baba is like a major side character, I think I can now say that he is yet another celebrity character. Along with Takeshi Kido from Yakuza 4 (Balls out Kido!), Saejima is now 2 for 2 of having a buddy character played by a celeb of sorts. Unfortunately, like with Kido this means that Baba also really is here just for this game and won't be returning in any mainline entries in the future. Baba did however make at least one more appearance in the original release of Like A Dragon Ishin but has been replaced by a different actor in the remake (Hope you'll play that one someday)
Also, I love that snowman heat action. It's got way too specific conditions to trigger though. Not only do you need to have a carrot in your inventory, you have to be near the snowy statues in the north of the map for it to trigger. Hope you see it next ep!
edit: ok nvm it seems other snowy areas work too (never seemed to work for me). I guess you need to just make sure to have those carrots/wood carvings.

I actually finished the hunting minigame before going to Tsukimino, as I felt they fit better in chapter 3 and allowed me to pace the game better by not cramming everything into the final chapter. Plus, while the pawn shop will give you more money for your game from the hunts, you should still try to sell to the trader in the village who wants a million yen's worth. Once done he'll give you some items as a reward. Also, the trader has the next items you need for Tendo's training.

So yakuza 5 has a unique mechanic of fusing items in your inventory to make a different item. The only example I can think of off the top of my head is the woodcarver and the wood block, but I’m pretty sure there’s a couple more instances of it throughout the game so just keep it open as an option.

Saejimas part in 5 really stuck out for me, hunting still is one of my favourite minigames in the Yakuza franchise and his substories are dam hilarious (Saejima Claus in particular).
His map though, unfortunately might be the worst in the franchise. I know the winter theme and highlighting the great Sapporo Snow festival is unique, but the layout with badly linked sidewalks and inability to access the main road (combined with the stationary police officers effecting where you can go) just leaves you constantly running into fights non-stop.
So yeah, best and worst of both worlds for me.

Yay! Is Sapporo! The moment I heard the prison was close to Sapporo I wanted Saejima to go there. Cause it's just another in the line of cross over locations with Persona 5 and Yakuza! Remember the disastrous snow festival in Persona 5 Strikers that took a girls life? Yea, same location as were you are now! You can even see the same tower in the park where the festival is. And it's the damn same streets around it! Same with Sotenbori (with it's real life location Dotonbori that's shown in Strikers) and Kamucocho wich is modeled after Kabukicho, the red light district in Shinjuku. The same district you go to when you go to Shinjuku in Persona 5!
It's crazy how many location cross overs there are in the Yakuza series and Persona 5/strikers. And even though the areas in Yakuza are "fictional" they are still modeled after their real life locations so if you've played one of these games, you recognize the areas.

The only way I could've thought of was to have it somehow escape from the zoo and Saejima had to fight it as a side quest and learn a new move from it. It would've been a fun way to mirror the tiger vs dragon but I didn't post that comment cuz that seemed too silly to have happened...Here we are.

Saejima: shh, be vewy vewy quiet. I’m hunting Yama-owoshi.
A way to see Saejima’s hunting side story is like an old Xbox game series called Big Game Hunter. Also, once you complete all the side story missions speak to Okudera and he’ll give you a challenge where if you complete it you get his rifle (one of the best ones).
Plus getting some of the traders healing items are really helpful since they are like toughness.
Note: Tendo is picky for his training, speaking to him will hint what you need. From what I remember, you need to make a wood carving (put wood and a chisel in your inventory and use them), an adult magazine, and a gold plate

Yes definitely the beginning of Saejima's part is one of the lowest points of Yakuza 5. Goes on for so long and you have no freedom. Still! Sapporo has one of my favourite districts in the series. Snowy city, at night too.
Yakuza 5 is a "return" to the time periods of the first two games. The first two games take place around Christmas time, which is abandoned in 3 and 4. 5 takes place around Christmas time again! Sapporo is all lit up, with a snow festival and ice sculptures and gorgeous at night, and almost every store has a Christmas-themed jingle. There's even a Miku sculpture lol. Just like all other districts in these games, it's based on a real district, and the snow festival is also real, with some of the biggest and most intricate ice sculptures in the world.

Yeah, I didn't leave the village until I was finished doing everything I could with the hunting lol. Glad you're breaking it up, it's probably better that way

Ngl my train of thought of the interaction with baba and saejima in the bar, i thought baba would give Saejima something entirely else than a phone!
Baba: "on a serious note saejima, please be careful, the Kitakata family is old fashioned, if they decide your an enemy ,they dont hold back, Atleast take this with you, its a concealed carry knife"
    *PULLS OUT LEGENDARY LIGHTSABER KATANA*

Is this officially goofiest mainline Yakuza game so far?

I love how basic the food lessons are. Saejima is just like "So cooking is a combination of ingredients? Intriguing." And "So you're saying I gotta enjoy tasty foods? I can do that." And "So what you're saying is I have to chew my food until it gets all mushy in my mouth and devoid of flavor and then swallow? Got it!" Only the best advice from a man who charged ¥800 for freaking water!

They said yume when they drank. If you were doing a counter, you would've had to count that to the dream counter.

Hey, Nico, for several LPS i noticed you keep pronouncing "aniki" wrong.
    You say it: A-ni-ki
    When it is: Ann-E-ki
It been bothering me every time it was said but they were in the past videos, so even if i put a comment about it, you wouldn't see it, so hopefully, you see this.

A NicoB Christmas special? I mean I’m not complaining but it’s a little out of season

If I had a nickel for every time Saejima fought a massive bear with his bare hands and won, I'd have two nickels.
Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

I think this was a pretty good episode. I did have a pretty good chuckle from you reacting to the thugs saying crazy stuff. The santa clause substory was pretty funny. Imo, the substories you came across here were a little stale(Just keeping it real and speaking from the heart.), but you made the video entertaining overall. Good editing with the bear talking to you and the kid sniffing snow. Also, I think you might need the pinup girl magazine to give to Tendo on the last training you do with him(From what I remember).

As you say, all this problem can be solved with skip and the biggest problem with Yakuza 5?
It has NO SKIPS to any and all the cutscenes and it would take until the making of Y0 for RGG to put some semblance of skipping of cutscenes into the game.
So yeah, that is kinda one of the legit complaint Yakuza fans and CCs have when it comes to revisiting the game.
