Either that or Like a Dragon. 0 starts Kiryu's story as a prequel to the mainline of games (which are very very clunky and some of them may not be worth playing unless you are really invested). As I understand, the yakuza are much different from other mafias in that they like to keep to mostly legitimate businesses. When you're heavily invested in real estate, you want crime to stay low as to keep the property value high. I'm sure their policies vary depending on region though. Their criminal acts tend to be stuff like illegal gambling, fraud, and selling stolen or banned goods. However there are a few groups who partake in the drug trade and even human trafficking. One interesting difference is how they run protection rackets. Instead of picking on small local businesses, they buy small amounts of stock in major corporations, which give them the right to attend stock holder meetings, where they then intimidate the other stock holders into doing what they want. There are also two known occasions where the Yakuza provided relief aid after major earthquakes in Japan. We're talking helicopters and hundreds of trucks full of food, water, and blankets. And apparently they're even present in North Korea. One guy got five years in prison for bribery and drug trafficking instead of, you know, just being executed. I imagine his stay in a North Korean prison was far more pleasant than usual considering his connections. Sh*t's wild. Actual yakuza members have stated that the Yakuza series of games is mostly accurate aside from the constant street fighting.
@@Xendrick They want you to think they're kind and classy, at least. Appearances are a big deal to them. They're still just as horrid as any other mafia behind the scenes, they're just obsessive about looking like they're the "nice criminals".

Hey RT! Idk anything about Yakuza, just thought I’d thank you for making so many amazing videos that have always been there for me no matter what. Looking forward to see whatever you play next :D
"Game is called Yakuza, protagonist leaves the Yakuza" Sums up the entire series quite well honestly, lmao. That's why the original title is "Like a Dragon" which is genuinely more fitting.
Kiryu has a fun night. Gets kicked out the Yakuza, beats up a building of men, beats up a boss, goes for a game of bowling, and loses 1 million his first time playing pool
Without context, that sounds like what could happened one of The Hangover movies. Like, that Kiryu has to now figure out what exactly happened yesterday and it was all of that
You know, its a little funny considering how Tachibana would have pulled that trick with the lights in Kamurocho. You know that there had to be a guy with a radio watching from another building and then another guy by a circuit breaker or something. I imagine it now.... "He's doing the thing! Flip the switch! Flip the switch! Okay, he put his hand down, turn the power back on." Though I imagine it was probably harder to know when to turn the power back on with all the lights off. It is 100% like a rich guy bragging about how much power he has, while relying on other people to actually _do_ the thing he's bragging about though. Very accurate.
I love how we're at "What is Even Happening" in the title, and we haven't even got to the girl dressup minigame that is somehow the best part of the whole game.
I dont think RT will be finishing this game! I did some checking on his Discord and in the suggestion channel he has a pinned comment that has Yakuza listed as one of the games he wont take further suggestions for. Considering this is the only video I can find on the game I am assuming he will not continue playing it further as it says later that he is "happy with what he has played on stream and not to request further" which based on the context I can only assume is in relationship to Yakuza. Im not certain though, and I would love to see him continue this playthrough as this fist bit was super fun!
I think it's rather silly how he says on steam that it'll pick up next week then decides he's had enough so he marks it as "done" in a channel that you don't have access to if you just join the server and there's nothing telling you how to gain access to the recommendations channel which would be the only place to find out he's not playing anymore of the game. I feel like adding a pinned comment or an edit to the description to mention 'hey I decided I've had enough with this game' rather than burying it in a channel on his discord that users can't access easily
@Athena6 Yeah, in general it seemed weird to me too. It did take me a while to even think to dig through the suggestion channel on the Discord anyways. I know RT doesn't finish every game he starts playing but it felt like this one had potential.
I expect to hear a lot of "He's alarmingly dead" in this video. Also, I _knew_ RT would play this game one day, it has enough goofs, action and *profitable mini games.*
dear god i hope he keeps playing yakuza... it doesnt have to be every single week or something but i fuckin love yakuza and i love watching RT play it...
How the hell do you always manage to play games the MOMENT I hyperfixate on the series. I'm so obsessed with Yakuza right now that when I saw you played it I screamed irl. I'm so happy. You've made my entire month. My god
Below are the facts about the series I've left on a comment of the vod for the first stream for Daniel. -In Japan, the series is known as Ryū ga Gotoku which means Like a Dragon. With the title Yakuza being used to have players in the west be aware about what it's about. And eventually the rebrand to Like a Dragon was made. -Yakuza 0 is a prequel made after Yakuza 5, and as such adds depth to the characters who shows up in the series. -Yakuza Kiwami and Kiwami 2 are remakes of the first two games. With K2 being made in the Dragon Engine that was first used in Y6. Also Kiwami means Extreme. -Regarding the memes "Kiryu Never Kills" and "Rubber Bullets". The former is a mistranslation while the latter was made after the events of a certain game. -There is a spin off series that has two games. Those games are Judgement and Lost Judgement. In it, you play as Private Detective Takayuki Yagami who is working on finding out the truth of a major case. -An official Movie Adaption of the first game does exist. It's on the short side and I firmly believe that a certain character had made it himself. -The game Yakuza Dead Souls almost killed the series here in the West. As it was a third person shooter in the Zombie Survival genre. Also it takes place in an alternate timeline after the events of the second game.
Theres also a like 40 minute movie made in 2005 to promote the first game and give some backstory of 3 of the most important characters of its story. Its a really sweet kind of sad movie but honestly i love it alot
Small corrections: -The series was recently rebranded as simply "Like a Dragon", not "Yakuza: Like a Dragon". -Dead Souls was a third person shooter, not first person. Also it takes place after Yakuza 4, not 2. Some additions: -There is a stage show based on the first game. You can find it on RUclips and it's worth watching for fans of the series (better than the movie imo) -There are two spin-off games on the PSP, Kurohyou 1&2. These were only released in Japan, but did get an English fan translation recently. I haven't played them myself, but I've heard good things. -There are two spin-offs that take place during the Edo Period in Japan, Kenzan (during 1605) and Ishin (during the 1860s). Kenzan has never been released outside of Japan, but Ishin was in the form of a remake.
This video is actually a dream come true for me as I love both rtgame content and the yakuza series! Here’s hoping to him playing the other games after this one!
Oh yeah, all the money that comes flying out of people's pockets like Sonic Rings? That's not just visual flair; in Yakuza 0, people you fight are just _that_ flush with cash, and because this is the 80's, bankcards weren't that widely adopted yet. Plus, since most of the people you fight obtained this money illegitimately, they can't really deposit it into a conventional bank either.

@@Spark--- Umm… you know that Y0, while chronologically taking place before the others, wasn’t *written* before the others, right? So like, if they decided to take his character in a different direction in Y0, that doesn’t change the writing in Y1 and Y2. As someone who played through the series starting from Y0, the transition of Majima’s character from Y0 to Y1 was comically jarring. It was painfully obvious that they wrote him one way in Y1, then decided they didn’t want him to be a villain so they slowly retconned it through the rest of the games, finally fully retconning it in Y0. @@hallaloth3112 Thanks, in that case I'll go ahead and start with 0.

They're still a criminal group, but they're the kind with class essentially
@@Xendrick They want you to think they're kind and classy, at least. Appearances are a big deal to them. They're still just as horrid as any other mafia behind the scenes, they're just obsessive about looking like they're the "nice criminals".
@@onyxrose4349 This is about right. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't like to look past the surface (hell, there are people who think these games are fluff pieces, despite... the actual plots of the games)

Literally yesterday I was thinking how cool it would be if he played yakuza, this man is a clairvoyant
i finished playing it two days ago and was just gonna go looking for someone playing it lol. but YIPPEE best possible outcome rt yakuza 0!!!
if you read it as "- _Yakuza 0_ - *MINUTES* before" or "- _Yakuza_ - *0 MINUTES* before" it still carries the same sense of simultaneity that both events happened

"Game is called Yakuza, protagonist leaves the Yakuza"
Sums up the entire series quite well honestly, lmao. That's why the original title is "Like a Dragon" which is genuinely more fitting.
Here's a challenge for those who want to play Yakuza on PC:
Download the Yakuza silly mod, and try to distinguish what is actually the game or the mod
Isnt that on kiwami 2, which makes it even harder in some moments cuz that game is *RUclips*in wild
I’ve experienced the story for these games multiple times, and I would certainly fail that challenge

Okay, he put his hand down, turn the power back on."
Though I imagine it was probably harder to know when to turn the power back on with all the lights off.
It is 100% like a rich guy bragging about how much power he has, while relying on other people to actually _do_ the thing he's bragging about though. Very accurate.
He's done it, he's becoming John Yakuza... Soon he'll become Joseph Like A Dragon if he keeps this up..

If you are including the Cabaret minigame in with the dressup then I 100% agree. I was HOOKED on that minigame in Yakuza 0 and Yakuza 2
5:02 “so unnecessary” Yep, that’s Yakuza, and it’s amazing
I expect to hear a lot of "He's alarmingly dead" in this video. Also, I _knew_ RT would play this game one day, it has enough goofs, action and *profitable mini games.*

Can’t wait to watch Daniel to suffer with the Karaoke Rhythm game when he’s not playing the Beat ‘Em Up it comes attached with
i dont know much about the series, but im having a lot of fun watching dan play the Kiryuu And Majima Do Goofy Shit Oh Also Theres A Plot I Guess game
It’s cute that this game throws a reference to Dead Souls despite that reputation
@@LifesNeverHumDrum Even Kiwami has a reference to it in the Majima Every System.
Theres also a like 40 minute movie made in 2005 to promote the first game and give some backstory of 3 of the most important characters of its story. Its a really sweet kind of sad movie but honestly i love it alot
Small corrections:
-The series was recently rebranded as simply "Like a Dragon", not "Yakuza: Like a Dragon".
-Dead Souls was a third person shooter, not first person. Also it takes place after Yakuza 4, not 2.
Some additions:
-There is a stage show based on the first game. You can find it on RUclips and it's worth watching for fans of the series (better than the movie imo)
-There are two spin-off games on the PSP, Kurohyou 1&2.
@@kamaano_yt Pretty sure Ryuji being alive in Dead Souls makes the timeline split happen in the second game.

I always love seeing new people to Yakuza experience 0 and go "bro I just beat up an entire family what the fuck"

@@CaptainEffort I mean, Y0 is a prequel, he'd already gone that direction. I love him both ways, though.
Like he straight up killed people and kidnapped children in Y1 lol, he was a psychopath. Not just a good hearted dude who acted a little eccentric.
