Last weekend I marathoned the entirety of Mario Galaxy on Switch and got all 120 Stars in the game. It took 13 hours of time, and since then myself and my editor Cloe have been working hard to condense the entire session down for highlights. This coming Saturday starting at 1pm BST, I'm marathoning the game a second time on Twitch to unlock the secret final level. This video took a crazy amount of work to put together, and I hope everyone enjoys it.
Interesting fun fact: The initial plan for the prankster comets was supposed to be a hell of a lot darker. This is best explained in the case of the Speedster Comet, wherein the original idea was that the comet was on a collision course with the galaxy. Mario had (x) amount of time before it crashed into the galaxy, destroying it completely, but the Power Star was able to stop it. If Mario failed, we’d have been treated to a cutscene of the comet colliding with the galaxy and obliterating it, a la Majora’s Mask. Miyamoto, not without good reason, figured this was a _liiiiiiitle_ too dark for a kid’s game.
“She is sleeping under the tree.” When I was really young I never understood that but now watching this, the realization hit me like a brick wall. Why is a Mario game so sad.

Funnily enough, that isn't even the halfway point of the game. Once you finish the game as the Luigi, you have to collect another 120 stars, except they are green and the game doesn't tell you where they are. You have to listen and look out for them and they are in hard to get to areas. The last one you collect is in the very beginning of the game (at Peach's Castle), and (if you are playing on the Wii) you get the special message thanking you for playing the game.

@@rusticrage9543This isn’t true though, collecting all 120 stars a Luigi just unlocks a purple comet version of the opening toad town section for each bro, there are 3 green stars but they just unlock the trial galaxies. Galaxy 2 has 120 green stars but you only need to collect all 120 regular ones once since Luigi doesn’t get a separate playthrough.

Hey RT, I very rarely ever make comments on RUclips videos or anything I know this will probably get lost within to see if comments here. When I first started the stream I was just planning on having some background noise and whatnot but for some reason once you started reading the children's story I put my phone down when I started listening and for the first time in a long time I felt like a kid again( I'm 20 btw). My mom passed away last year in October very unexpectedly. How many you started reading it it made me think about she used to read books to me as a child. Your voice had the sincerity that my mother's used to have. At exactly an hour 47 minutes 25 seconds, I broke down into tears, you would never believe how much a super Mario game can mean to somebody, how some random twitch streamer / RUclipsr, can make a 20-year-old man bawl his eyes out for good 20 minutes straight and never understand how much it touched him. I'm guessing the euphemisms are because Mario and Pokemon are both kids' games and saying "they died" would bring up some awkward conversations with kids who are too young to understand death. Still, they definitely chose painful one. "She's sleeping under the tree on the hill" conjures up the image of a child who's too young to grasp anything about death except that the person isn't coming back. "He was given a tiny box" makes you face what it would be like to not just lose your loved one but have the closure of knowing they're truly and completely gone, or if you've already experienced it, reminds you of that experience vividly.

When RT read the storybook I actually started sobbing. Something about my favorite RUclipsr playing my favorite childhood game already tugs at my heart, but also hearing him read the story just destroyed me. Thank you RT for just being such a wonderful person
Hearing RT's voice for Rosalina's story has got to be one of the most wholesomest things. Honestly RT has a great voice I would very much like to watch a steam in the future that's just him reading, his voice is so soft and soothing I could easily listen to it for hours on end to relax with.
The plot twist of the century: RT making jokes about streaming his wedding and divorce the day after making jokes about streaming during his child’s birth, only for his partner to say that she’ll give birth on stream. “100 bits equals one push”. Jesus

I will always appreciate RT's narration voice. Being so calm and genuine, treating the cutscenes as seriously as they present themselves. It made the storybook hit that much harder, with a calm voice narrating a tragic story.

i started crying when i saw the story book in high definition :,) this game was my whole childhood and being able to see it with a bit more pixels made my heart melt lol.
The Bouldergeist terrified me as a kid. He was so intimidating, and still is to this day. And I felt bad for killing the Dino Piranha as a kid. But this is definitely my favorite 3D Mario game.
I actually really liked him, even after the nightmare that was the 1-hit battle. I recently made him the entrance to my nether portal on my brother's Minecraft realm. The hands sucked to make.
I remember that galaxy being really easy but fun. What traumatized me is the trash-exploding mini-games that I still cannot get the hang of years later.
In galaxy 2 there is comet that makes you speedrun 5 bosses from Mario galaxy 1 in 5 minutes. In that speedrun boldergiest is a bitch to kill fast. Ideally you kill the first 3 in 2 min but you need to allocate 2 to 3 min to fight him because if his bullshit patterns made to prolong the fight. That star took me more than 20+ tries that took about 4 min each. By far the hardest star in MG2 . But besides that he is okay I guess...
Theory: RTgame is secretly a speed runner in Super Mario Galaxy because he pulls off some very good strategies whilst being very casual and makes it sound like he has never done it before

I remember, the first time I played Galaxy, it crashed after the first level. I convinced myself that it was because I didn't use a Wii remote jacket, since I played through it again with the jacket and it didn't crash.

"Why don't they do a boss that's just feet?" The boss in Luigi's Mansion 2 in the last mansion just before the final boss is a giant knight armor. It stomps on you and you have to bait it to the rugs then pull the rugs from under it's feet
Despite the timed levels and the toad voices, the combination of the music of this game and RT's lovely voice mean this video entirely soothes my anxiety, I've been using this video to help me get to sleep the past few nights, thank you Dan, I love your videos 💕 (Side note; I don't mean the video is boring, I need to have something playing as I go to sleep due to external noise keeping me up)
I completely get what you mean. I have a hard time sleeping in silence bc I've lived in communal housing for so long at uni; it's never actually silent unless something's wrong, like how quiet it was when the pandemic first started bc a bunch of ppl in the building left suddenly. I pretty much always have to sleep to something in the background, and RT's one of my absolute favorite go-to's bc something about him has always just been really calming to me; definitely one of my comfort streamers. I love popping on either a playlist of my favorite vids he's done or a long vod and just drifting off to the sound of his voice. I've been using the Trackmania spaghetti vod the past week or so. I think the only vids he's done that I can't use to sleep are the ones like Hitman and the fireworks lag simulator, bc those make me have nightmares that I'm in a shooting bc of the gunshots/gunshot-like noises. Other than that, I can use pretty much any of his vids; he makes me feel safe enough to fall asleep.
1:27:40 So, funny story. two of my friends _technically_ got married over a twitch chat/stream. They were playing minecraft, built an entire like, double row with chairs and everything, and had it streamed. One of our other friends was already ordained, so they were the one who sent the two the vows over discord, and was the one to actually marry them. Looking back on this, I'm realizing how much of a trip that actually was, my god.
Rosalina's storybook is probably the highlight of all of mainline mario storytelling. I'd really love to see something like this once again. The closest we've ever got to a comeback of emotional writing was probably the Bench Guy in Super Mario Odyssey. Which, especially in comparison to how Zelda has gone in the opposite direction, makes me question why Mario needs to be free of any complexity.
rewatching some old playthroughs is fun. Watching this right after Sunshine really shows the difference in control quality, just seeing the jumps that can be made that would've failed massively in Sumshine

When RT read the storybook I actually started sobbing. Something about my favorite RUclipsr playing my favorite childhood game already tugs at my heart, but also hearing him read the story just destroyed me. Thank you RT for just being such a wonderful person
Hearing RT's voice for Rosalina's story has got to be one of the most wholesomest things. Honestly RT has a great voice I would very much like to watch a steam in the future that's just him reading, his voice is so soft and soothing I could easily listen to it for hours on end to relax with.

I dreaded chapter 7 in every playthrough since i liked going through the storybook. Everytime it got to the part where she says her mom was buried under the tree, it broke my heart.

I will always appreciate RT's narration voice. Being so calm and genuine, treating the cutscenes as seriously as they present themselves. It made the storybook hit that much harder, with a calm voice narrating a tragic story.

I remember that galaxy being really easy but fun. What traumatized me is the trash-exploding mini-games that I still cannot get the hang of years later.

In galaxy 2 there is comet that makes you speedrun 5 bosses from Mario galaxy 1 in 5 minutes. In that speedrun boldergiest is a bitch to kill fast. Ideally you kill the first 3 in 2 min but you need to allocate 2 to 3 min to fight him because if his bullshit patterns made to prolong the fight. That star took me more than 20+ tries that took about 4 min each. By far the hardest star in MG2 . But besides that he is okay I guess...
I remember trying to play this game as a kid with my brother and failing at the fuckin bunny quest and it infuriates me to this day

I remember, the first time I played Galaxy, it crashed after the first level. I convinced myself that it was because I didn't use a Wii remote jacket, since I played through it again with the jacket and it didn't crash.
Listening to RT read was relaxing and made me feel like my child self again, something I rarely feel well with, but this was beautiful. Dan, if you ever somehow see this, thank you, you’ve made me feel happy once again, even if its for a short time, it made me happy, thank you

I completely get what you mean. I have a hard time sleeping in silence bc I've lived in communal housing for so long at uni; it's never actually silent unless something's wrong, like how quiet it was when the pandemic first started bc a bunch of ppl in the building left suddenly. I pretty much always have to sleep to something in the background, and RT's one of my absolute favorite go-to's bc something about him has always just been really calming to me; definitely one of my comfort streamers. I love popping on either a playlist of my favorite vids he's done or a long vod and just drifting off to the sound of his voice. I've been using the Trackmania spaghetti vod the past week or so. I think the only vids he's done that I can't use to sleep are the ones like Hitman and the fireworks lag simulator, bc those make me have nightmares that I'm in a shooting bc of the gunshots/gunshot-like noises. Other than that, I can use pretty much any of his vids; he makes me feel safe enough to fall asleep.

They were playing minecraft, built an entire like, double row with chairs and everything, and had it streamed. One of our other friends was already ordained, so they were the one who sent the two the vows over discord, and was the one to actually marry them.

Rosalina's storybook is probably the highlight of all of mainline mario storytelling. I'd really love to see something like this once again. The closest we've ever got to a comeback of emotional writing was probably the Bench Guy in Super Mario Odyssey. Which, especially in comparison to how Zelda has gone in the opposite direction, makes me question why Mario needs to be free of any complexity.
