I don't think I minded roaming Tsukimino too much. I never understood the complaint about the high encounter rates when combat in this game feels fun as all hell.
I can't help but notice how when Kitakata got shot it was in a room with large windows and Daigo had said earlier that's the type of place where you're just asking to be sniped.
Muhfuckas always planning and scheming around they deaths in these games. Seriously, I think every game has had a character that either fakes their death or plans around an attempt on their life in some way. It's ridiculous. 😂
So to clarify some confusion you had with Baba's reveal, the plan was that Saejima need to explicitly break out of prison (not get out on parole) when they got the signal, which was Majima's death. Second, when Baba points the gun at Saejima, Baba explicitly states that killing Saejima was not part of the plan. He was cornered and caught, and felt like he had to shoot Saejima to escape, then couldn't pull the trigger because Baba respected him too much. I hope this helps clear it up a bit.
Random cop calling his boss: Sir, I just noticed that Saejima, the escaped convict is busy participating in the snowball fight contest. Boss: You're fired for drinking on the job.
So yeah, this Baba reveal recontextualizes the whole chapter. Specifically something you were complaining about earlier, the dudes killing the warden. The plan was ALWAYS for Saejima to leave. They didn't actually want him dead or stuck in jail, they wanted him to break out. So they killed the warden so that Saejima would get Kosaka's help. The fact that Baba's fake story was so perfect that not even Kosaka knew it was fake shows that they know what the fuck they're doing, and they wouldn't make a mistake like that.
It's interesting how Baba and Saejima's story kind of mirrors Okudera and Sato's story. Baba and Sato were taken under the wing of an experience hunter/yakuza so they can survive in a rough environment (prison/the mountain), only for their to be an ulterior motive for their association. Then at the moment of truth, pointed a gun at their friend, and couldn't go through with killing them. But only Okudera ended dying due to Yama-Oroshi. Saejima and Baba have a chance to meet again, while Sato, taking on Okudera's name, had to live for both of them, never finding closure until Yama-Oroshi was defeated.
*Very Important Note:* Now that you have finished Saejima Part, I need to *warn you that Part 3 has a concerning gameplay oversight involving the sparkles on the ground in that city.* Without saying too much, I have to inform you that these are _ keys_ to claim an item in a specific location. Okay, so what’s the big issue with claiming these? For the first half of Part 3, if you were to use a key to claim an item from this location during this period, for whatever reason *it will become completely NONFUNCTIONAL to you and will STAY USELESS until POSTGAME.* I can’t explain why yet because the reasons are spoilery to you until a certain point, but note that _you _*_CAN pick up any keys safely,_* just *do NOT use them until we say that it is safe to use them.* You can claim them later. *This is a well-known problem that first-time players run into as they would think nothing is wrong until they realize the items they redeemed from these keys are unusable for whatever reason, staying there to rot until postgame of all things.* I wouldn’t normally tell you this early considering you haven't started Part 3 yet, however, the problem it has is too urgent to ignore.
I genuinely believe the golden castle coming out of the ground under the original larger non-golden castle in yakuza 2, MORE then Saejima magically disapeparing the guy into the sewer. IT's actually so funny. Especially given they show the SNIPERS? BEFORE? It's like literally the thing I believe the least in all of yakuza. Any other insane thing they do I go "That's crazy, but feasible" This is the one thing I go "that's literally not possible---"
With how much dreams have come up in the last couple of chapters, I feel like Nico's "Dreamity dream dreams?" needs to stop being a question and become a statement with conviction.
Kitakita's shooting is foreshadowed even before it's revealed that he doesn't recognise Baba. In Kiryu's section, Daigo said that he moved the meeting place from the hotel to Madarame's car because: "It always pays to safeguard against attacks or assassination attempts from nearby buildings. But that hotel is in the middle of Nagasugai. What's more, the meeting was set to take place in a suite with large windows. You're almost asking to get shot if you hold talks at a location like that." Where does Kitakata meet with Saejima? A room with large windows in a building located in the middle of the city. And funny how every Yakuza game till now has the same "There's a traitor in the Tojo" plotline which causes all the problems for the clan. Y0 had Shimano. 1 had Nishiki. 2 had Shindo. 3 had Hamazaki/Mine. 4 had Daigo himself. And now there's supposedly another traitor.
I'll let you defend the rubber bullets all you want, but there ain't no way Saejima and Baba managed to lift up the manhole cover, grab Kitakata (who's not even in front of the manhole and is a bit to the side), go back into the sewers, and put the manhole cover back in place, ALL WITHOUT BEING NOTICED BY NOT JUST THE GUY SITTING NEXT TO HIM, BUT ALSO ANYONE ELSE IN THE AUDIENCE, THE POLICEMEN KEEPING WATCH, AND THE GODDAMN SNIPERS WHO WERE WATCHING THE AUDIENCE FROM THE NEARBY ROOFTOPS!
I wanna be a Baba defender here. Baba is a VERY polarising character in this game, with the general consensus being that of dislike, but I actually think he's a great character in Saejima's story. Here we have a young man who's sworn his life to fulfilling his boss's orders. Boss says jump, Baba leaps for the moon. He's not that different from a young Saejima, who sold his life away to try and assassinate for his boss. But we saw what happened with Saejima. He's led a very lonely life, especially now that he's lost his family and his Kyodai. Baba also leads a lonely life. He came across as an introverted kid in prison, likely as to not get close to his mark, and Saejima managed to break down that facade by just being genuine with him. By the end, Baba doubted his lot in life, which I think is why he turned the gun on himself. He realised he couldn’t go through with his orders anymore and hurt the man who, despite it all, stayed by his side. His allegiance swayed to a man who genuinely cares for him, and not a man who points in a direction and barks orders. I just think it's great to see a villain take that step with a protagonist. Also, his theme is a banger, so that helps too. 😂
Shades of Kido from Yakuza 4 He's taking his shot and riding it all the way I don't exactly dislike him, he played a VERY good game on Seijima which i respect.
Nico's on some serious copium with Majima's death. He refuses to believe it. I'm worried he's gonna be pissed when he gets to the end of the game and realizes he's actually gone.
probably not, he does seem to be accepting when it's full on confirmed, but until it's beyond the shadow of a doubt, he won't let go of the slim chance it might be fake, i guess that just shows his majima love
45:50 Suspend your disbelief just a little bit? I just wanna re-emphasize how ridiculous this was. Saejima a 6+ feet tall brick sh%thouse of a man climbs up the sewer, in broad daylight, has to pass the dude sitting next to Kitakata, grab and drag him away without making a noise right past said guy, all in the span of 10 seconds WHILE DOZENS OF COPS WERE LITERALLY LOOKING STRAIGHT AHEAD IN SAEJIMA'S DIRECTIONHEIEGDJFOEJDKDBDU33UEH7!!!! I love Yakuza but come on RGG, you could've written this better. Also how Kitakata got shot. By standing directly beside some very large windows in a high building. A trope Daigo directly talked about with Patriarch Madarame back in Kiryu's part. "You're almost asking to get shot if you hold talks at a location like that." I guess Kitakata just wasn't as smart as Daigo 😅.
I could see Saejima succeeding in the kidnapping if it's that he never left the sewers, and instead just leaned out to grab Kitakata by the ankles and quickly drag him over to the sewers.

Tsukimino is nice from an aesthetic point of view but man is it cramped. Also I never thought it before when I first played it, but looking back it's ridiculous how Saejima took Kitakata without being seen lol. Either way part 3 is gonna be interesting.
You mentioned how money isn't really used on anything beyond weapons, which you aren't wrong, but you also mentioned you didn't see a point. The best way to do weapons is to focus on weapons the character is already good with and to not really use other types, despite how backwards that sounds. Leveling up weapon levels are fine if you don't try to do a all at the same time, and they give you nice buffs when they get high level. That is essentially where money is going to go towards
In regards to the manhole bit and how it makes no sense… Fuck it, whatever. Saejima already squared up against a mountain wizard and fist fought a 14-foot bear, nothing surprises me anymore.

**Saejima forced to pick between 2 disguises** Nico: We already went with Santa, let's try the other one. Saejima after wearing the Disguise: EEEYYYY BOYYYYYY- Whoa, the heck happened with me?
Am I the only one here thought that Baba was going to die after he got his ass beat by Majima then he talk to him a little bit then get kiss by someone in front of Majima eyes cause I thought that was going to happen.
i can't be the only one who was basically screaming at Saejima an Kitakata to "MOVE AWAY FROM THE BIG OPEND WINDOWS!!! GUYS! GUYYYYYSSSSS!!!!!!! YOUR HAVING A BIG PLOT RELEVENT CONVERSATION IN A YAKUZA STORY! AND ONE OF YOUR IS A NEW FACE! STEP AWAY FROM THE WINDOWS FOR GODS SAKE!!!!!"
im surprised no one has mentioned this to nico yet you CAN run from battles as long as your path isn't blocked or if it isn't a boss fight you if you see the escape flashing on the bottom right of the screen when going in the opposite direction you can escape
The whole section with Baba after he dropped his gun on the ground and left it completely unaddressed had me so tense, I kept thinking "they won't pull this bullshit for the billionth time now would they.... it wouldn't make sense now right.... RIGHT" Glad I was worried for nothing
This comment is unrelated but I hope you can play The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy when it is released next year. (The apparent release date is April 24 next year in Japan idk about the rest of the world)
I like to imagine Baba doesn't have that amount of health cus he's actually that strong, but instead because Saejima literally will not let him stay down until he's been beaten half to death
I appreciate your brutal honesty about the game and pointing out what you like and don't like about it. I think if Tsukimino was a beautiful city, but it seemed very limited with how much you go roam around it, and the encounter rate was very high making it difficult to get anywhere, without taking a long time. Hopefully new games can learn from these past mistakes; strengthening the already good parts, while also improving the parts that aren't as good. Great episode. I really admire Saejima for been understanding, and still forgiving Baba for betraying him. I like Baba, his bond with Saejima, and his admiration towards Saejima. I think like you said Saejima is even more simple than Kiryu. Saejima also tries to see the good in people and life, which is admirable.
So here is something i was thinking about. Baba chan said that it was their goal to have him arrive here alone, but of course we know both made it here. So would that mean then that the patriach getting sniped by baba was not part of the plan?
IMPORTANT: This is a warning for when you get control of the character in part 3. Whenever you see a shiny object on the ground or wherever. DO NOT USE ANY OF THEM, I REPEAT, DO NOT USE ANY SHINY OBJECTS YOU FIND OFF THE GROUND, YOU WILL REGRET IT LATER!!! Edit: 1:12:26 Saejima is coping as much as Nico here. Edit 2: 1:22:36 Remember Nico, the Tojo were still around when the first Judgment game takes place. Judgment takes place in late 2018. 5 takes place in 2012.
I mean to be fair, it's not much of a mystery. It's revealed ten minutes later, and the suspicion against Baba starts right away, with Kitakata saying "I don't know who he is". Also it's very obviously Baba running away, that's clearly his jacket
Well, similar thing happened with Shinji when Kazama was shot, but he wasn't the culprit, so it's not beyond any doubts that there wasn't any other character involved. Plus it's revealed soon after, so I don't think they intended for that to be some kind of big mystery.
Refering to the manhole bit, situation. Saejima see things as professionnals does sometimes, number of exits and dangerous things. as we can see in movies. But more on a smaller scale. He thought this was probably important, but due to the fact that not knowing the layout of the town / and sewers would be a disadvantage with the time approaching... fair to say this option wouldn't be viable. And after beeing out 10 years + the fact that he did not know Baba had experience with sewers (i don't think it's a normal japanese thing to use sewers or know them). Which explain why he dismiss it instantly. // Also, to your prediction. i think the last character will be BABA, and we will have all the explanation by playing his side. that way they don't have to introduce one. and because he is the last one... i don't want to say it, but perhaps things will get down and BABA will take a bullet for SAEJIMA. damn, i hope i'm wrong. i'm starting to like BABA.
Kidnapping Kitakata is Yakuza's "We have to steal the Declaration of Independence" moment. Edit: In all seriousness, it may be contrived but it's easy to hand wave. The context of the "kidnapping" matters. It's not resolving a conflict with a major villain whose been built up in the story. Kitakata himself is very cooperative and the whole situation is just a embellished way of approaching a protected figure for information.
Since we've seen a decent amount of the patriarchs Daigo was looking to recruit, i would like to suggest Daigo's strategy behind the picks. Daigo was only recruiting the realest of OG's I.e the old guard of the yakuza world Daigo has loved Kiryu since Daigo was a boy as alluded to in 0 and probably looked up to Papa Kazuma too Daigo has tried and failed to get the "New Yakuza",I e disloyal shitheads with no guiding force other than power and money, to fall in line, actually co-operate, and run the clan as he wants Thus Saijima was to be his captain and help right the ship, What we are possibly watching is Daigo's patience finally fully ending with the current clan members Reform is impossible as the rot is too deep. i think the aim was to replace the rot within the clan with Madarame, Kitakawa, and the remaining patriarchs which the rot didn't like. The plans were probably already in motion before the Omi chairman got on his deathbed, if that's even real at this point, but it forced plans to get moved up on both sides. It's might be wishful thinking, but Daigo is whose is pulling the strings of the cops to pester Kiryu and bring Saijima back for 1 last job Burn the clan to the ground one last time
I’ve seen some people make the air show kidnapping out to be the worst scene in the entire game with some even raising it on par with Kamurocho Hills rooftop scene from Yakuza 4, but I honestly don’t think it’s THAT bad. Is it silly and dumb? Sure. Did RGG write themselves into a corner by making the security at the snow festival so tight? Probably. But I just kinda roll with it because Kitakata was already waiting for Saejima to appear anyway and thus wouldn’t put up much resistance, and the whole circumstance is just really funny to me lmao. Plus, we don't actually see what happens afterwards on the plaza so maybe someone did see what happened but they couldn't act on it in time. Also in case you were wondering about Saejima “beating the fear of death” into Baba being the reason why they fight here, I’ve always interpreted it as Saejima simply wanting to beat some sense into him. He doesn’t want Baba to just off himself for more than just one reason, and Saejima being the man of strength and yakuza tradition he is, the best way he can think of to make Baba see sense is to give him a good beating. He words it really dramatically, but that’s how I’ve always seen that scene.
While Saejima taking Kitakata might require some suspension of disbelief, I don't think it's to ludicrous if you think about it. The air show grabbed the crowd's attention and was making enough noise to muffle what Saejima was doing. The cops were expecting Saejima to come from anywhere else, taking their sight away from directly in front of Kitakata. And the most important detail to consider is Kitakata himself. He was expecting this meeting with Saejima. He wanted to talk with him. He likely never even tried to resist or cry for help once Saejima showed up. He willingly went with him in order to talk this out to fulfill his promise to Majima.
Pretty sure he was already told back in the Y4 LP that he never comes back because of the issues regarding his actor, but we all know Nico's memory can suck ass sometimes.
Saejima's story was still pretty damn great...
Even if roaming around Tsukimino was a HUGE pain.

Those must be the Japanese version of the Blue Angels for everyone to be distracted by them.
1:10:07 Fun fact: They reused the first part of Baba’s “Feel the Heat” QTE for Higashi in Judgement.
Don’t make the joke
Don’t make the joke
For the love of god I will not make this overused joke…….
WAS THAT THE BITE OF 87?!?
k but the IRONY of a thief that was actually a good guy and a detective that was actually kinda garbage. and they end up in the same cell. It's like poetry.
Lmao!!! Scrotum face?! That’s a new one but coming from Nico, that sounds natural xD
I can’t wait for the next part. This part is one of my favorite sections of this game.
1:20:09 I wonder what Nico is going to stream this weekend
35:26 and thus it was revealed that not Shia La Beouf was Indiana Jones long lost son but Saejima 😎
Baba is baby. Also, I'm so much more excited for Nico to see who's next.
jeez is this detective the Nick furry of this game?
1:10:01 Hmm, either you haven't hit em with enough trash cans or you have to specifically hit people with the blue one. There are different colored ones, blue and dark grey.
those camouflage pants even work on the snow das crazy
I BELIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEVE IN YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOU
It funny to see Saejima high steals skills completely fail to work on punks while he walking on streets
**Saejima forced to pick between 2 disguises**
Nico: We already went with Santa, let's try the other one.
Saejima after wearing the Disguise: EEEYYYY BOYYYYYY- Whoa, the heck happened with me?
The funniest parts of this episode were the snowball fight and the download updates at the taile end of the story(or at least saejima's side).
1:07:16 For Baba's epic theme, I B E L I E V E I N Y O U !
Am I the only one here thought that Baba was going to die after he got his ass beat by Majima then he talk to him a little bit then get kiss by someone in front of Majima eyes cause I thought that was going to happen.
why do I get the feeling that this'll be a Danganronpa execution with the blackened?
I can’t wait for Nico’s reaction to the next character :)
11:55 it's also because you are drunk, increases encounter rate significantly
Missed opportunity to name the episode “I believe in you”
So true
54:47 - I like that game.
i can't be the only one who was basically screaming at Saejima an Kitakata to
"MOVE AWAY FROM THE BIG OPEND WINDOWS!!! GUYS! GUYYYYYSSSSS!!!!!!! YOUR HAVING A BIG PLOT RELEVENT CONVERSATION IN A YAKUZA STORY! AND ONE OF YOUR IS A NEW FACE! STEP AWAY FROM THE WINDOWS FOR GODS SAKE!!!!!"
IS THAT THE BITE OF 87??!!
I feel like the plan had too much room for error if it even worked out with the few days Baba was about to die in the mountain.
The pothole kidnapping bit is definately not one of the well written ideas in this series
17:39 My god this man's eyes scare me 👁️ 👁️
Oh, i cant whait for the next Episode. That will be fun.
I BELIEVE IN YOUUUUUUUU
So what I‘m getting from all this so far is that Serizawa is the Yakuza equivalent of Nick Fury
Saejima: **Herculean Armor**
Oh, you're giving yourself the same buff boss characters get now... Neat.
Jesus, four bots right out the gate. 😑
im surprised no one has mentioned this to nico yet you CAN run from battles as long as your path isn't blocked or if it isn't a boss fight you if you see the escape flashing on the bottom right of the screen when going in the opposite direction you can escape
The whole section with Baba after he dropped his gun on the ground and left it completely unaddressed had me so tense, I kept thinking "they won't pull this bullshit for the billionth time now would they.... it wouldn't make sense now right.... RIGHT"
Glad I was worried for nothing
Saejima's part's done. Can't wait to see who's gonna be next to be eventual Amon target and who they will spend time talking in a club.
This comment is unrelated but I hope you can play The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy when it is released next year. (The apparent release date is April 24 next year in Japan idk about the rest of the world)
Cop said 'We followed your every move', yet they let Kitaka die (almost). Yeah that's the whacky Yakza cops we all know and love
The bite of 2012.
Baba said yume there and would've been added to the dream counter if there was one.
I like to imagine Baba doesn't have that amount of health cus he's actually that strong, but instead because Saejima literally will not let him stay down until he's been beaten half to death
Kitakata: "Any last words Majima"
Majima: "Ligma"
Kitakata: "Ligma?"
Majima: "Ligma... Balls" *dies*
My favorite part of this game next time! don't @ me lol
You can PICK UP the locker keys safely, you just can't use them safely until later on.
@@JalexsterThanks.
Uh why....
@@StarBornMichael It will very quickly become clear when Nico reaches that point, so don't worry.
Oh okay.
The mystery of the identity of the sniper kind of doesn't work, since... Baba is the only guy with you, and he *just* left the scene.
// Also, to your prediction.
i think the last character will be BABA, and we will have all the explanation by playing his side. that way they don't have to introduce one.
and because he is the last one... i don't want to say it, but perhaps things will get down and BABA will take a bullet for SAEJIMA.
damn, i hope i'm wrong. i'm starting to like BABA.
Warning when playing as the third character: They have 48 side missions and if you want to balance them out, do 12 each chapter.
Since we've seen a decent amount of the patriarchs Daigo was looking to recruit, i would like to suggest Daigo's strategy behind the picks.
Daigo was only recruiting the realest of OG's I.e the old guard of the yakuza world
Daigo has loved Kiryu since Daigo was a boy as alluded to in 0 and probably looked up to Papa Kazuma too
Daigo has tried and failed to get the "New Yakuza",I e disloyal shitheads with no guiding force other than power and money, to fall in line, actually co-operate, and run the clan as he wants
Thus Saijima was to be his captain and help right the ship,
What we are possibly watching is Daigo's patience finally fully ending with the current clan members
Reform is impossible as the rot is too deep. i think the aim was to replace the rot within the clan with Madarame, Kitakawa, and the remaining patriarchs which the rot didn't like.
The plans were probably already in motion before the Omi chairman got on his deathbed, if that's even real at this point, but it forced plans to get moved up on both sides.
It's might be wishful thinking, but Daigo is whose is pulling the strings of the cops to pester Kiryu and bring Saijima back for 1 last job
Burn the clan to the ground one last time
Herculean spirit saejima is disgustingly op, but extreme dragon heat mode kiryu is even more op because hes legit invincible and deals insane damage
The kidnapping plot is definitely suspend your belief, but I don’t mind it because it find it hilarious.
Also, next chapter is PEAK.
Next chapter is indeed Peak Fiction. Can we get much higher? I don't think so.
Nico huge tip for the next character. You can pick up locker keys and they will transfer between characters, but do NOT open any lockers with them.
He still thinks Tanimura's coming back?
Pretty sure he was already told back in the Y4 LP that he never comes back because of the issues regarding his actor, but we all know Nico's memory can suck ass sometimes.
it's better for first time viewer to pretend he doesn't know that
Please for the love of God the next character whoever he is going to be pleased that his side stories and stuff be really really good😅
1:26:53
"next it will be akiyama,Tanimura and then new guy"
Just want to point out that Tanimura is not even on the Cover of Yakuza 5.
He doesn't know that cause he didn't pay too much atention to it, I think
Sorry, but that manhole thing was utter BS! How the heck did that work? Everyone even the snipers on the roof just love jet displays, I guess.
Daigo out here trying to make Yakuza NATO.
Also, F Baba. Least favorite new character in Y5.
