I watched The Captains RUclips and saw the pure joy he took in your accident. I think that he had been almost looking forward to it. Your day isn't wasted if you made one person happy.
Take a piece of rebar (or other material), weld it vertically onto the lever bar so that it's hidden when lowered, and visible when raised, paint it a nice fluorescent green. Simple, and gives a nice visual cue if it's up or down that you can see from the truck.
You two work well together, and You are soo lucky to have tradesman locally available to make you a part so quickly and so strong. Thanks for sharing this improvement. Even if it was not a planned item at this time.
You should put a micro switch that activates when the cylinder is all the way up and put a warning light on the dash of the truck with a big warning label on it that warns that the support is not stored away.
door jam switch on the frame of the truck....When I put a pto on my truck i thought i dont need a light to tell me when its in gear ....Damm this truck is shifting hard ..OH pto is in gear I put a light the next day
Hey Mike, hey nya.. as much as I love watching the excavating videos for the pure massive scale of it!! I think I like this style video even more!! Hanging around the shop bickering and bantering and bloody knuckles!! Is right up my alley!!
For the record, watching CPT Kleeman’s channel is like listening to Bob Ross fix things. Say anything CPT Kleeman says in your best Bob Ross voice. Maybe it’s just me. But I do like both your and his videos. Thought it would give a chuckle.
Coming from personal experience, I like to mount my chargers vertically on the back wall. This didn't work too well prior to lithium batteries, but these days they're all "slide & lock". So having the charger oriented vertically works great and is very accessible. So recap: it may make more sense to mount a piece of wood on back wall, and use pipe strap to secure the chargers. Alternatively, mount it at a steep angle so you can make a lip for extra battery storage.
Repairs completed, that was a quick turnaround for the prop !!! Good to have an engineering company nearby to do these jobs for you, hats off to them !!! That was a mighty tight fit for the shelf Matt, but it has worked out well in the end !! Plenty of double entendres slpattered through the video for good measure 🤣👍
Can't tell ya how many times I've torn off the stinger lock on my lowboy, I use a mental checklist before I get in the truck and do a walk around talkin to myself now LOL
Consider taking the regular steel screws out and putting stainless steel one in the place and silicone around the heads to keep water out. And silicone around your power cables coming in the box to keep the vibration from making the cables move around and cut in to your wires.
My suggestion for the future is a checklist. When you get in a hurry you skip things! There's a reason aircraft pilots are required to use them. Print it up. Laminate it and put it in an easy-to-use location in the cab. Before you drive after loading, unloading, etc just run through it.
The design of the new metal bracket appears to be an open pan that will catch and hold water. If that is correct, you might want to add some drain holes.
@@warrenmichael918 Very much the same from here Edit: Watched through and now question overall design. Should do it's job for several years but the dirt trap prone design seems less than great
Mike seems to be a pretty accomplished mechanic and not afraid to tackle anything he feels that is in his welm of accomplishment especially when her has NYA covering his back !! Great job guys !!
Another suggestion we painted our lowboys lift points orange so there more visible so our driver could see easier to check for clearance just for a reminder distractions can cause costly mistakes to happen as you found out!
Nice repair and back in service. One thing you may want to consider is tacking an indicator rod to the "Arm" , run it up by the top frame rail to indicate its position. Just a thought.
Mike i think that you should invest in two cameras for each piece of equipment one facing out so that we can see the screw ups and one facing the operator so we can see the perpetrator and their reaction to said screw up😂😅😊🎉🎉🎉
Well, on the initial problem, that's where the "stuff happens" thing comes in. I do like the idea of putting a shelf in that underbody tool box for stuff where getting wet is a problem, it seems no matter how well I align the gaskets on mine, they end up with water in the bottom in a heavy rain. Nice job as always.
Mike we mix grease with our never seize for our valves and stuff on the barges since we work in the salt air I'm not sure how much salt yall use on your roads but it is just a thought.
Nice new part Mike it always sucks when it’s self inflicted no employee to blame did it with new stake dump after telling everyone to take hitch off before dumping I forgot to remove it. A torch and a frame machine later but that’s what happens when you rush.🤦
Goodness knows the way to really make sure those projects that are on the list that aren't crucial to things get done, is to make the items inoperable so they have to be done lol. Very strategic thinking Mr D.P.
Well looks like neck support was modified before your turn. Looks like you learned nice thing of hydraulic neck. You can shift a trailer to help line up. Also if you release safety pin before hookup it is spring loaded should ride up and latch, when you start to lift trailer lift neck support first. It does make things easier
Been there, done that. We welded 1” tabs on either side of the support arm rest so it wont slide when its down. Also have a magnetic sensor that illuminates a light by the parking brakes if the arm isn’t up high enough.
Good morning Mr. Dirt Perfect Mike. Could I recommend installing a weatherproof switch that activates a sensor that locks the trailer brakes whenever that is in the down position so you can't do that FUBAR again !??!! You might have to rig it differently than I've described. Maybe with a warning light on the dash and a warning buzzer to let you know it's down. 3 levels of protection notification. Kinda like on the landing gear on a Coast Guard Grumman HU16e Albatross seaplane had installed. You could even get the switch online at a used no longer allowed to use on currently flying aircraft parts site fairly cheap. There used to be a aircraft surplus company here in Miami on N.W. 25th Street just east of Miami International airport. That street no longer exists but I'm sure the company just moved to new digs. They sold a lot of that stuff to construction equipment businesses. I know that to be a fact as a friend of mine used to but parts to use on his equipment. They're all high qaulity so the could handle the humidity here in SoFlo.
Just a heads up, Ford starter solenoids arent designed for constant duty. I had one on the fuel pump on my car and it worked great until i cut the car off in town but went to start it back up 5min later and solenoid was too hot to work, picked up an 80A constant duty relay from NAPA to replace it with and been running 10yrs problem free. My pump only pulls 18A at full boogie too
If you need to run that many wires to other stuff, I have seen a distribution block that the car stereo guys use. Run one large power wire in and then have several link points to run accessory's.
Lot of good ideals on how to warn a guy he's not quite ready to take off. My ideal would be a reflective decal on the dash (location up to you) ( Driver )SUPPORT UP OR DOWN ?? Maybe one where the controls are on the trailer. I belive Clints boy could hook you up.
Mike that whole right behind the fifth wheel connection going towards the back why don't you put a plate in there to put speed binders add a couple of chains so that you don't have to pull them all the way from the tail of the lowboy Justin suggestion okay is Bob from Vero Beach Florida God bless have a great day and stay safe
You could put a red light on a toggle switch and mount it so when jack is down light is on when jack is up it’s off put the light where you can see it from cab Might take a little time too hook up but no longer than putting it back together or wrecking the truck
Top tip, if your gonna use a lathe wearing a hoodie cut the strings off the hood coz if they get caught in the chuck you will lose your camera smile 👍👍
I have 2, one by the compressor switch and one by the door / light switch, bloody compressor was still on all weekend, fortunately my plumbing is very air tight and it only runs once or twice in a weekend (estimated based on tank pressure gauge over a weekend when I do turn it off) bloody good job as it’s a 4kw motor! 🙄
You guys are just awesome! What a fun packed, if indeed an expensive, video for you Mike. Thanks for another field fix-it day video. You and Matt work really well together :)
You added a cross-member to the truck just for that arm to push on. I say add a second piece of metal with a hinge, a switch, and a spring, and connect it to an alarm in the cab. Have it beep while anything is pressing on it.
32 years ago, I went to machine tool operator school in Groton, CT and the instructor's first lecture was about machine safety. I can still hear him telling us "DO NOT LEAVE CHUCK KEY IN CHUCK!" in his voice every time I put a key into any kind of rotating equipment.

I just drilled a couple 3/8” holes on the back bottom corner (tire side) so if water gets in air speed going down the road will pull it out.
I have drain holes and added a rubber door mat with holes. Chains and binders don't rattle much on rubber and water can still drain out if it gets in.
