Cat dealer, Whayne, in Louisville, KY, completed this 5000th tractor rebuild in Caterpillar history.

In the world of consumerism, it is utterly satisfying to see something get rebuilt and/or repurposed.
Because i have worked on machines with 12 to 39 thousand hours that keep coming back for several repairs.... this gives the customer a "new" machine at a little more than 1/2 cost with a warranty. great idea long term.
This video is A testament to the team work of those folks.
That’s some serious team work and corporation with all departments to pull that off in that short of a time.
The right Parts getting ordered.
Trucks bringing in parts on time for the build.
Mechanics tearing down and reinstalling on schedule.
Painters working to paint parts on time.
The in-house fabrication teams doing one off hoses or who knows what to make the build complete.
That’s a lot of people.
A lot of emails and ph calls.
These folks are as synchronized as a orchestra playing at the met gala for the president.

Brilliant! Looks like new, if this was the loader I was the operator on, I would very pleased when it came back!
I work for Terex Africa and do rebuilds. Engines and transmissions go for reconditioning. There's no need for new ones. Diffs and final drives you only service like changing worn bearings. All pipes are replaced. Tyres get painted if still in good condition. A Terex TR100 can cost the customer 20percent of a new one so rebuilds are great options plus they come with a warranty.

that was a total rebuild, not just new engine, heck they have an entirely new machine when that thing rolled out, I'll bet it was about 3/4 the cost of new machine, but you get the same life as a new machine, possibly more, as is often the case as rebuilt parts are often changed to make up for previous shortcomings.
this has gotta be an awesome job. Cat holds safety as key in their shops.. they would be a great team to work for.. I worked as an electical contractor (Low voltage installing fire alarm equipment) at one of the Cat wielding plants in Jacksonville fl, they wielded front end loader buckets.. and the were one of they only big companies to a huge emphasis on safety

Its cheaper to proform a cat certified rebuild. Also cat is getting rid of the problematic NRS System on there new engines.

I imagine they kept busy with all their other shop work while they waited on the final drives and trans to be shipped off, rebuilt, and brought back.

Aqui no Brasil quem faz esse trabalho é a concessionária cat ela tem clientes trilhonarios governos federal estadual municipal empreiteiras Mendes Júnior, Odebrecht, OAS, Delta grandes mineradoras vale do Rio doce , os contratos são de bilhões de reais eles passam o trator velho pra concessionária e levam o novo zerado negócio é negócio

@stevesai The owner probably had some issues with the machine and decided instead of buyin new parts tht he would rather just spend the extra money to make the machine like brand new once again plus a cat certified rebuild is only 50-60% cost of buying a new machine

What they are not showing is all of the good parts going in the metal dumpster, just because they have a little ware. Don't think about dumpster diving because they made us take a torch and male the unusable.
I doubt they just throw them away they probably get rebuild
it depends on the cost of rebuilding vs the cost of new. for instance, flat tappet camshafts and lifters are almost always replaced on these kinds of rebuilds but they are not thrown away because its cheaper to regrind them vs manufacturing new ones, but if the rocker are on a smaller engine like a 3406 is damaged out of cats spec, whether it be scratching or pitting, they are thrown away because the amount of labor and parts to rebuild them is more costly then buying new

So why would it benefit anyone to dumpster dive for unusable parts???
It would seem more productive for CAT to send those things out to recycle instead of filling municipal landfills with metal and aluminum junk!
@@AzzKicker-bz1cb musta missed the "metal" part of what he said, the parts do, at least at my shop, go into a scrap dumpster that goes to a recycling plant. And I actually misspoke, there are a lot of parts that do not get trashed like rocker arms and lifters, they actually have a core charge for them.

Google really is your friend. I found a used 1998 Cat 980G for sale for just short of $350,000. This is probably a lot less overall.

So.. it took 2 months to complete. That's 2 months worth of man labor which looked like you had a full crew working on it. The cost of all those new parts, shipping etc etc.. its probabaly more cost efficient to buy a new one
Absolutely not having had several machines rebuilt it costs a fraction of new.
The fact that there's people spending good money on having these rebuilt instead of scrapped says otherwise

If that was the case then these rebuilds wouldn't be so popular. It's actually a rather good investment having a technically new machine for 1/3 of the price.

From a LEAN stand point, it seems there's a lost of waisted time or "hands off" time. With a little process improvement that franchise could shave 4 weeks of production. It may cost up front, but pay huge dividends in the long run!

they are still doing their regular repair and maintenance work around that so that is why it not take half the time and there is no $ incentive to speeding up the process...plus a lot is probably awaiting heavy parts
SuperJlonergan.....no dollar incentive????? WRONG!!! How about turning the shop out faster, opening the floor for more customer pay, and how about the value of getting the customer back up and running faster....there is huge incentive for getting the job done faster.
David Mckie if a customer is doing a full refurb he isn’t down n obviously has backup machinery! You don’t do this if you need to be up n running lol
