This is why people shouldn’t be expected to know what they want to do right after high school. You’re a teenager, you just became an adult. Your interests can change, you shouldn’t be pressured to figure out want you want to do. In school no one tells you about looking up career plans or degree plans, just what major or job. Heck, changing your major shouldn’t be regarded as a mistake or have a “time limit”, but capitalism and societal pressure, am I right?
I’m a high school student and I reallly have no idea what I want to do in the future it’s so frustrating.. I’ll try to find some majors that catches my interest for now, thx for the video 💗😭😭😭
I’m honestly glad that someone that isn’t in an ivy school is talking about this. The ivy advice isn’t helpful personally because I don’t go to an ivy school. I was surprised how different things were but thank you either way!
As a high school student thinking about what to do with my future, this video felt very helpful. I never even thought about looking deeper into actual jobs that I could go into if I picked and completed education on a certain major. So much valuable advice here. I feel a little more confident on choosing a major now!
I'm a chemical engineer and couldn't even find a job in my country.... i regret choosing it too and I'm trying to change careers at this age. Thank you for this video. Wish you could make a video on how to change careers
Im also studying Chemical Engineering right now but after 1 and half year I think it isnt for me and I am considering changing. It is really hard and I never felt so lost and low in my whole life. I made the hard decision to change majors but I think it will be worth it.
Struggling in chemE and generally engineering is normal! Try getting work experience, see if you enjoy the work and then you will have something to look forward to.
I made the same mistake. I asked a guidance counselor they told me to take engineering because it involved math and science. Then I majored in mechanical engineering as that field supposedly had jobs. I graduated with fairly good grades but could not find any jobs. There was a recession then and there were few positions for entry level engineers Gradually I got programming contracts and then software engineering positions Frankly the counselors are useless I like working in an office and am really not a mechanical engineering type. I love programming so it worked out for me eventually now I am retirement age but keep working to accumulate more money lol Software engineering was nice as can live in many different cities and work in many different industries ie medical finance automotive etc
0:57 Hey, that's literally me! Except I failed some of my courses and graduated 1 year and a half after i was supposed to, and yeah I still regret choosing ChemE
I’m kinda glad that the job isn’t in a city setting. Not a big fan of the city. Already stuck inside the city in the bay area and it’s too loud for me. Thanks for the information :) you motivate me to keep going at it for chemE!!
You’re such a good mentor like always! I think various experience is really matter. After starting professional career, it comes an opportunity to change a professional career as well.
Just completed my 1st college year in chemE, now i have an option of switching to computer engg and i am thinking to avail it as the job opportunities are much better in computer side (i have almost equal intrest in both field) Anyways thanks Yeonju😊
Currently in Chemical Engineering right now in the end of the first semester (it's our finals week). I might shift my course to the next semester because although I am good in my sciences and maths, I'm just not passionate about it and I would rather do something else than review my syllabus. I think that's an early sign I'm going to regret this degree by my junior or senior year and I'm "too late" to change it. I'm shifting to something I actually care about which is Multimedia Arts. I'm not just passionate about it, I'm also serious about it turning into my own career. Well, that's my experience. Hoping for the best to other kiddos who need some thinking to their future! I know you can graduate college and just have fun!
I am from the Greater Boston area and I also regret graduating with Chem E. The only industry I can go to around here is Biotech, Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices.
I am absolutely scared. I picked industrial engineering out of idiocy and I don’t know if that’s good enough nor do I like it that much but I might as well finish it. I was 17 and pressured about picking something to study 😭😭
Don’t worry about it!! You never know what can happen and do not stress about it. You can always change your major!! It is not a mistake. It’s SO common for college students to change their major.

I am a highschool student and have been thinking about studying ChemE because i love chemistry and maths. Do alot of people regret majoring in ChemE? How do i know if ChemE is for me?
I’m a chemE major who didn’t regret choosing ChemE. I chose ChemE because I specifically wanted to work in the food and cosmetic industries. However, in high school I didn’t love chemistry, but I was really good at chem and physics. ChemE is a lot of physics and physical chemistry (Thermodynamics, fluid mechanics) . If you’re good at math you should be set to succeed. But just know that chemical engineering is a type of engineering, lots of engineering skills and some basic chemistry knowledge is the composition of your degree plan.
ChemE is for you if you want to be an engineer but doesn't know what specific path to take in the future, because ChemE has a lot of career path options! I'm a freshman ChemE and I wanted to be in the pharmaceutical industry, but I might change my mind as time passes by becuase of how versatile this degree was.
