Finished my Bachelor's Degree this year in ChemE and i think there are a lot of possible carrer paths. Next to the obvious ones in petroleum industry there is e.g. the whole area of hydrogen. From fuel cells to electrolysis. Very interesting field and concerning my own experiences in industry, ChemEngineers are highly welcomed there.
when i decided to study chemical engineering my grandparents thought i was gonna do their medicine studies and my family think i'm some kind of walter white lmao
in case you guys feel bad about taking longer with your program I found a supposed chart illustrating that a physics phd took 5.5 years to 9 years depending on whether it is experimental or theoretical, the research in question, and the student's personal speed. And basically all stem degrees involve considerable math anyway.
I’m a teacher but with everything going on, I plan on going back to school and earning a engineering degree. Also live in Texas! Thank you so much and have a great day!
As retired ChemE , ChemE is well around engineering major. Study so many different subjects. ChemE education stands out in many industry with chemE education.
I know ChemE and Chemistry are both very different majors. i actually like chemistry more but ion wanna disappoint my family that i got jUsT tHaT kInd Of cOuRSe so im tryna risk my ass off for a harder one, that is still kinda connected to chemistry even tho its more on math... so i choose to make myself suffer by choosing ChemE :D
I'm currently in community college getting the credentials for transferring for Chemical Engineering. Let me say, Jesus it's tough. Especially since most communities don't exactly offer Chemical Engineering. My ed plan is to literally take all the Chemistry, Physics, and Calculas offered by my school. Add that along with you're usually with people who don't have common interests and boy your going to need some motivation. But it's everything I enjoy so just gotta push on through it! I would definitely recommend it if you're into engineering 😁
Guys, speaking as a chemical engineer in the oil industry for the past 12 years, the course was difficult (Sheffield University), and the rewards are diminishing after graduation. If your aim was to make a good salary in oil and gas, I would suggest a rethink, as the industry is all but dead in the west for design work. The work is going to India and Korea. Think whether you want to risk constant bouts of unemployment every few years because of the oil price. The job itself is excellent and a challenge.
This is one comment that I will agree on. I am glad I did not go into the Oil & Gas. Go into water or pharmaceuticals, I went to (Bradford) & my MEng was water and pharmaceutical leaning and it is an industry that I have gone into and it has been rewarding and fulfilling.
Chem E is hard and I hated it the first couple of years. And it wasn’t until third year that I decided I might as well start liking it cause it’s gonna be my major and anyway it was too late to back down. now I’ve been working as a process control engineer in a petroleum refinery for 3 years and it’s a whole different experience I actually like it a lot now (I don’t love it yet lol) and I think it’s mainly because at work I deal with stuff I learned in school hands on and plus you get to learn and relearn but at your own pace
ChemE grad here, if you don't want to do ChemE type work the great thing about the degree is you can really do anything. I've done automotive, aerospace, polymers and now automation engineering. So any aspiring ChemE reading this, don't think you're condemned to working in a plant if you dont want to!

I'm sure this video is very helpful for a lot of students. I graduated in 2015 with ChemE and Chemistry degrees. I work in plastics research now after working in engineering consulting for a while.
Yeah, I thought I'd go for ChemE because "I like chemistry, and I'm not so good at physics" hah! The naivety! I'm on my 3rd year now though. Pretty good GPA too. Let's get it!
Really agree your vid. We studied a lot of process engineering and stuff like that. It was not much chemistry, more physics and math and MATLAB somehow q.q Just felt like the degree just leads to work in the manufacture industry which is why I dropped off on the 4th year. I do not regret choosing ChemEng cuz I met a lot of amazing ppl, but wish I saw your video few years back.
dropped in 4th year? Man why to drop at that stage. I hear that most of the last year is just labs and projects and all hard - hardwork is mainly till the end of 3rd year. However, hope u are doing well in doing whatever u are doing.
Hai Yeonju, i really agree with your this video, because i'm majoring in chemical engineering and right now i'm in second semester. First i feel like, i choose chemical engineering because i like chemistry, but after i choose it, i talk to myself "wow it's so hard"😂😂...but, i think "it's okay, you can do it and don't be doubtful girl"..so yah until today i learn more and more about physics, math, and etc...it's so hard yeonju eonnie😅

Also, isn't it much easier to transfer from chemE to chemistry than the other way around. So even entering as a chemE major it is easier to switch and in industry (with experience) it is easier to fill roles a chemistry major might fill?
Hahaha 😂 I feel you. But actually chemistry runs through the end point if we really realize it, and it just act as a base on all the subjects that we learn. From fuel cells to electrolysis. Very interesting field and concerning my own experiences in industry, ChemEngineers are highly welcomed there.
RIP to me and now that I see, to every ChemE out there for taking this in love of chemistry.
My heart goes out to yall
As a physical chemistry TA who helps teach a class that's usually filled with chemEs. Those kids have it rough ......
... and it's my fault
when i decided to study chemical engineering my grandparents thought i was gonna do their medicine studies and my family think i'm some kind of walter white lmao
If u work in pharma as graduate engineer trainee ...than its easy adapt medicine terminology
in case you guys feel bad about taking longer with your program I found a supposed chart illustrating that a physics phd took 5.5 years to 9 years depending on whether it is experimental or theoretical, the research in question, and the student's personal speed. And basically all stem degrees involve considerable math anyway.
Just a senior highschool here
*getting whispered by my parents to go with chemical engineering :>*
I'm a chemE student and I suggest choosing your major based on where do you want to work.
I'm ChemE students and so far it has not been what I thought it would be. ChemE is mind blowing seriously😅😅
And seriously hard 😂, it was a struggle for to finish this degree
I can definitely relate to how you feel~
Hi, ChemE student from Indonesia is here👋🏻
I’m a teacher but with everything going on, I plan on going back to school and earning a engineering degree.
I mean, if you read "engineering" you should already prepare your expectations in terms of dificulty

Fyi dat chemis engineering is 10%chemistry 90%math and physics
Yes, it is one of the hardest engineering as it requires us to study subjects from almost any fields.
I'm a chemical engineering graduate and I can say it is very hard and challenging especially when you start working in industry.
I’m a junior ChemE and have a transport exam tomorrow.. never heard of your channel but perfect timing to be suggested!!! 😂
What is your pay
ChemE grad here, if you don't want to do ChemE type work the great thing about the degree is you can really do anything. I've done automotive, aerospace, polymers and now automation engineering. So any aspiring ChemE reading this, don't think you're condemned to working in a plant if you dont want to!
Is chemE well paid?
I just saw your video, and clicked it right away because it's about ChE. And I also did subscribed right away haha. I'm currently a 2nd year Chem Eng student from Philippines. Prob'ly going to watch your other videos. Thank you for sharing your experiences. Keep it up, it helps a lot of students like me :)
I cried at my ChemE graduation. Not because I was happy that I was graduating but that it was over. It was finally fucking over. ChemE 4 Life.
To be honest, this branch is difficult, but it is so essential for industrial chemistry. The difficult problems make our patient, our professional in this major.
YAAAY another chemical engineering graduate working in O&G here ✌️
I'm sure this video is very helpful for a lot of students.
RUclips just recommend me this, and I am currently 3rd year in ChemE
How has it been
I really agree that chemical engineering is so hard but finally i survived and i had my master's degree last year 🥰🥰
Good luck for all students !
Is your department about chemical petroleum reforming or publical
finished my 2nd semester with 3.80 🥺🥺 am entering my second year this october!!!!
First year ChemE Cornell PhD, it was the hardest experiences of my life but brought the best in me
What kind of jobs did u get after 4yrs of undergrad chemical eng?
This was helpful a little. I didn't have any questions, but I did want to see what you had to say as a graduate in chemical engineering. I love physics, chemistry and math classes. I love engineering period, so I chose this career path, starting at Lamar University soon, but glad to see what you had to say🤗
If only i seen this before.. and now I've got mental breakdown #futurechemestudent
Hi Jamie! I’m a chemE major who made the same mistake as you, choosing chemE bc I liked chemistry lol. I was wondering if you could talk a little about your job search process in a future video. Thanks and I love your vlogs ☺️
That was the reason I wanted to join, life saver..😧
bEcaUse i LoVe mAth aNd sCience - me when i entered college

You gotta accept it how can people be this clueless thinking they only do experiments in chemistry? Like what the heck it's about science for that you need math and physics how else will you ever be to build something without all the acknowledge
An incoming 2nd year ChemE student, loving chemistry along the way. We are going to take chemical engineering calculations which is supposed to make you decide if you'll continue this degree or not. Let's hustle hard with this degree program 😅👍
Same here. We have classes now. I have 6 different classes involving maths and physics. I'm dead.
@@shion275 fuck I m too studying CPC this sem and to be very honest our prof. is quite good in transferring concepts
Hi 5th yr ChE student here, if you are talking ChECal i recommend using Felder's book
Or if you have questions regarding ChE you cam message me 😊
@@crystalalamar9568 i mean by mail or something???
can you make a video that goes further into career paths for a ChemE. I'm a third year ChemE and I live in socal. I loved your video btw:)
ruclips.net/video/CqrsGlZ5nvQ/видео.html
Hiii I just find your channel for not exactly reason lol but I felt definitely connected, I am ChemEng from Colombia and even here we join to this career because we like Chemistry in high school and then realize is an illusion. when I was in university (Universidad de Cartagena) we received a visit of stundent from A&T University, it was cool !
You don´t say "ChemE" , you say "PhysicE"
Ohmygod i am contemplating on what to take on college either bio or chem eng and this pops up on my recommendation
Guess this is a sign
The thing is a few months ago I thought this degree was only about chemistry so because I didn’t like chemistry I put this degree out of the list but when I started to see this type of videos I started liking this degree and now I’m going to start in October 🙏
Thank you Jamie. This would have been very helpful in choosing ChemE :).
LOL
Thank you 언니 ♡♡♡ I am still thinking about what course to take up in college, and I think I would like to take up ChemE, but then the 2 questions hit me hard that made me like, "I don't want this course", but then the careeer path, where plants are in the middle of nowhere???? that's my kind of thing hahahahaha so maybe, I might love working on this ChemE course
The hard truth is that chemical engineering is not about chemistry 💔💀 as a chemical lover that is heartbreaking but for the name itself, the value and the opportunities it offers we shall continue 😭🔐 🙌 🙏❣️
this year im goin to the college for the first time and pray for me so i get accepted in chemical engineering major, honestly i love chemistry and i dont hate physics as well ,i hope i can survive at this whole hole life !!
Me here watching this when my dad has a phd in chemical engineering 😐.
Same but my dad has a PhD in mechanical engineering😐
Currently double majoring in ChME and Chem. It’s hard as hell lol. Currently in Thermo 1 and it is scary as hell
Thank you very so much! For sharing your experience and solving our doubts. :)
Ok I will enter as a freshman bsChE this year, I'll be back here after 4-5 yrs after I became a licensed Chemical Engineer. I will return here
Damn relatable, being a chem eng. graduate here.
If u really like chemistry, seriously go for chemistry majors. Not chemical engineering. You'll only get to see chemistry in year 1, maybe a lil bit here and there. Then physics and maths all the way.
control and process engineering options are the only chemical engineers who can rightly say it is hard... prove me wrong.
The one question I would have is why chemical engineering research is so similar to chemistry, many of which DOES happen "in the lab"?
Also, isn't it much easier to transfer from chemE to chemistry than the other way around. So even entering as a chemE major it is easier to switch and in industry (with experience) it is easier to fill roles a chemistry major might fill?
After watching the videos and reading the comments, the bgm: WE are not alone~
Just don't take it 😂 unless you want to study for 6+ years those who study it for 5 years are damn GENIUSES of all GENIUSES literally
Other chemeng students “i take chemical engineering because i love chemistry”
Me : “no.... i’m stuck 😭😭😭”
Hahaha 😂 I feel you. But actually chemistry runs through the end point if we really realize it, and it just act as a base on all the subjects that we learn. All the besttttt, I'm a final year degree (last semester) in Chemical Engineering Technology in Environment doing my internship currently 🤣 things shall passsssss
Hye jamie. I'm going to further my study in ChemE next month😂 Hopefully i can survive until the end😭
Kurumi-chan good luck! you got this ☺️
freshmen: “i love chemistry and i’m good at it, i love math and computations”
third year: i hate chem and math
fighting for all of us taking chem eng course!
uh hi i see you're a chemE student. can i ask if this course require drawing skills? i have no idea im so sorry
@@zaynmalik1150 definitely not, lol
I still love math but I hate chemistry
@@rosathais but I am loving learning ChE
@ZAYN MALIK, a little drawing skills for mat bal (lol just squares)
I majored in chimE because I was a bit into chemistry but I found out that I don’t really enjoy chemistry as much as I thought I would be, so good for me 🙃
omg i’ve been looking for a video like this 😭😭😭 THANK YOU!!!
I enjoyed watching your video..I am now a Licensed Chemical Engineer in my country Philippines but working presently as an Occupational Safety & Health Engineer at a cement plant though my engineering skills still useful but I really miss to be in a real Chemical Engineer world.........
I almost chose chemical engineering before I was accepted in pharmacy, Sometimes I think about it 😅
i am from indonesia, i bachelor chemE. thankyou for sharing, couldnt agree anymoreeee! 🥺🥺
