BRAVISSIMI TUTTI.BIGHIN GIULIO RENZO
Thank you so much! This is why Suzanne Farrell is legendary. The way she moves. So Fast and full of abandonment when she dances. Peter Martin's quoted in his book that Suzanne wasn't afraid to fall on her bum. She was a risk taker. That is what I love about her dancing. Awesome!
Starting around 03:25 Farrell becomes an incarnation of a Hindu deity. The most gorgeous, mystical and fluid dancing I've ever seen. Trancelike. Thank you so much.
It's fantastic! Thank you very much. These clips of DQ are so rare that watching it, I feel so lucky. That this role was choreographed on Farrell seems absolutely clear. It is difficult to imagine anyone else dancing it, even though I've only just seen it. It's an absolute treasure.
John, I'm very, very grateful for these clips. I was "Christian Boy" and then "Saracen Prince" in the late 60's, and am haunted by this music (not to mention the scent of the incense in the procession scene). Thank you for sharing.
Inspired dancing. I so wish I could have been there! Or that I could travel back in time for this marvelous performance. Grateful to have this video to watch for the first time.
Wow!! Such a find! Footage of Farrell in Don Q! She was magnificent! Too bad Gloria is in black -- hard to see her against the backdrop. I love the rare video clips you post (including those of yourself!)! Thank you so much!
How many times a week could she do this?? It looks utterly exhausting. You can kind of tell she was reaching her limit with her fouettés near the end. They look off and a bit out of place. But the rest of it, holy s#%* she could dance. Not just move from one pose to another but really dance in the truest elemental sense of the word.
Suzanne is divine and the choreography is nice but what does any of this have to do with the story or spirit of Don Q? I will forever remain baffled about this creation of Balanchine. And I will never tire of laughing at this absolutely meaningless rambling score! But I am utterly grateful for seeing this. History is history!
Sima Raft This takes place after the Don has been beaten by the nobility. He is having a dream of his “Dulcinea.” It makes perfect sense in the context of the ballet.
Suzanne is absolutely incredible! But I would have loved to see the performance of the others - why oh why do they have dancers wear black costumes with a black background!?
@@jcliff26 john Clifford thanks.ps..someone needs to do an uncynical take on life in those times. Haven't gotten your book yet , cannot wait to read it though.
Everything was on video then and it deteriorated terribly. Thank God this remains, I had no idea. Thank you, John Clifford, for saving this legendary and marvelous performance from the abyss of time.

Absolutely gorgeous!!! And I love the way Farrell’s costume flutters with the choreography. It’s like the icing on the cake of her artistry
Thanks for this. It goes beyond mere dancing and into some unfathomable realm altogether. Cheers.
