    Nothing to fear here :D The MX-5 NB engine is good for 7400RPM (Not once or short, i talk from beating it all day long) without any parts changed. If you go higher, the valve springs will fail first. This is not a engine killer at all b.c. it's a non interference engine and so the pistons wont hit the valves, even if they stay full open after the spring is gone. The pistons and rods are even good for 7800RPM before you need to change them and thats also for a car that is driven hard on the track. People allways tell "nah, you cant" or "it's impossible" but they never testet it. My numbers are testet over years and proven fact.

After that, i have to let it open again, let change valve springs to what they are now, also use the actual values in the ecu and again take multiple videos over time to prove it. So if you think realistically about it: No i can't b.c. it's the car that i use for everything (so i need it) and it will cost my ugly amounts of money just to prove it to you. I guess you can tke the "Thumps Up" that my post got as a indicator that there are enough people out there, that also know about that fact :D

      '04 Miata LS with a 6 speed owner here, how is that possible? Those that I've taught stick with my car have so much trouble even putting it in reverse (same with me when I first got it) because of how much you have to push it over to the side. I also thought it was literally impossible to put a car in reverse while going forward anyway? Since this was my first car I learned stick on, I just kept fudging my tranny up when I first got it on the highway, and kept forgetting I was already maxed out in 6th, but because my car is so much louder than I was used to, I kept thinking I was still in 4th and "shifting up" back down to 5th 🤦🏻‍♂️🤣 Only times I've ever money shot my trans is when I try going 6th-4th and accidentally jump to 2nd 😵 Thankfully I've always put the clutch right back in when I feel the car start rearing up. Somehow it's still going after 5 or so years of me owning it 🤞
      I still wish I could've gotten a Mazdaspeed, but just missed the seller having one by only 2 months...

    • @allahsnackbar9915
      @allahsnackbar9915 3 года назад +32

      reverse will never mesh when going forward, as the gears are going wrong direction at insane speed. you might be able to pull it off, but it will take extreme force and also enough luck that youll probably snap the shifting fork in the process instead. you can try this by slightly going forward at way below walking pace and try getting into reverse. the noises will be quite insane even then. now imagine at 100 mph lol.

    • @ryuman757

      @@off2eat Something must be different/wrong with his or something, cause my 6 speed has a full-on slot you have to force your way into to reverse it (the only stick shift car I have any familiarity with is mine). It's literally impossible for me to accidentally slide the lever into the reverse slot when going into 6th, let alone even move the slot to put it in reverse, since it's locked out or whatever when driving forward, lol. Idk even 1st gear for me requires a bit more force if you tried downshifting into 1st, so I might not need to ever worry about money-shotting my tranny going from 2nd to 3rd 🤙

      If the RPM goes high enough then valve float can occur which could cause damage becuase even when the camshaft isn't touching the valve it may still not have enough time to return before the piston comes back up. You're still obviously safer with a non interferance engine but the risk is definitely still there
      Edit: Should have said this way differently tbh, don't know what I was thinking when writing this a year ago lmao.
      What I should have said is:
      Non interference engines can still suffer from over-rev damage, especially in the valvetrain itself. The risk of piston to valve contact is 0, however you can still ruin the engine by over-revving. At first the valvetrain will be damaged, but with repeated and severe cases of over-revving you can even damage the connecting rods (though you do need a LOT of time spent at too high rpms)

      I learned to drive this way when I was in private drivers ed (I dropped out of high school and went to work while I got my GED, back in 2007). It’s a primarily a safety precaution. If your arms cross past 3 o clock and 9 o’clock you may beak your arms in a crash. The airbag in the steering wheel will demolish your face and break your arms. This was also taught in my public schools driver education curriculum.
      Shuffling the wheel is also a technique that gives you more fine and balanced control over a vehicle. Both arms and hands are balanced. Matters a whole bunch when you are going 100 mph+
      With light weight wheels on a lightweight car.
      Pay more attention in school and spend less time criticizing others. He is also taking great lines through those turns.

      U shift up and down right, so when u are shifting, say from 2nd-3rd, u are meant to tweak it slightly to the right then up. Sometimes u underestimate the tweak, and shift BACK to 1st instead.
      Prevention is better than cure, to prevent this, try not to put urself in high RPM situations where u are at the redline, that gives u enough time to correct the mistake.
      The cure is, clutch back in the moment u hear the revs fly up. When in doubt, clutch back in u ll be fine.

      I have done this a few times unfortunately mainly while I was initially learning to drive stick. I have a question for you though, why might a missed shift result in engine damage sometimes and not all the time? As I have had one very severe missed shift and yet all is still fine. Jw.

    • @justsumguy2u
      @justsumguy2u Год назад

      @@poppachoppa8956 It all comes down to engine design. The Miata's engine is high-revving by nature, and it also has a strong bottom end--it can survive a missed shift or two. Now, let's say you had a non-performance engine with a 6K redline, and you hit 9K on a missed shift---you're probably going to have a couple of connecting rods hanging out of the block

    • @starga-fr7qx
      @starga-fr7qx Год назад

      a money shift is final, it is GAME OVER
      does'nt matter what engine it is, the term money shift, means you exceeded the engine design, DONE.
      You have to spend money to get it running again, hence "money shift"
      if the engine still runs, it was a misshift, you caught it in time..

    OK SO... (ONLY AT THE TRACK-) ALWAYS tie a small parachute to the shift lever and throw it out behind you when you need to shift from 3rd to 4th...never fails. Basically you'll need a convertible, OR an upgraded air condition blower motor (vortech or paxton) OR remove your existing roof of your car to MAKE a real convertible out of your boring hard top. Better than blowing 4th like in this vid👍🏻

      8500rpm for half a second is still 70 full revolutions, enough to damage the engine if something were to fail or if the engine is an interference engine, 70 revolutions railing the valves against the piston will still do a heck of damage lol. • @LilTemha
      @LilTemha 3 года назад

      its when for example you shift from 4th gear to 2nd gear by an accident, it causes the revolutions to increase substantially and go past the redline of the engine, so at 2nd gear lets say you can only do 8000 rpm max, u money shift into 2nd gear from 4th and you do 11000 rpm instead which will blow your engine a lot of the time or transmission. its called a money shift coz its expensive af to fix, gotta take engine apart and check transmission
