  • Because I couldn't find many detailed how-to videos on this topic... I decided to make one while doing it for the first time! Here's an in-depth step-by-step to replacing the sprockets and chain on my 2019 Honda Africa Twin, as well as a walk-through using the MotionPro PBR Tool for the first time during the process. Don't forget: Do your dang maintenance!

Thanks, this was super helpful and gave me the confidence to tackle it myself-parts ordered. LOL the "hope I don't die" sentiment definitely resonates with me...I said exactly the same thing the first time I did my own brakes! And it was fine...

I have found, in my experience, everything seems scarier to do than it actually is with bikes. Just go slow, don't force anything, and stop to do the research if it feels like something isn't right. Hope it's helpful as you do it as well!

I'm at 37,500 miles, and my chain has finally bitten the dust. The link connection thingy is different on the DID chain I've bought, but hopefully it'll go smooth. A buddy has a chain breaker tool, so I'll borrow that and give 'er a whirl. I've never done this either, but I've done worse stuff, so I'm hoping this won't be too much of a headache. Thanks for the vid. Much better than the other one I watched.

I consider myself capable, but not mechanically inclined knowledge-wise.... It stressed me out doing it myself but I'm the end it was really a simple process. Hope the video helps... You'll do great. 😆😉

@@TallManMoto Yeah, I learn as I go. The only thing I'm worried about is linking the chain up properly with a tool I still haven't even really seen, let alone used before. I'm sure it will be fine, but there's always that trepidation... Cheers!

I'm proud of you! Also, I finally put that cotter pin into the crown nut on the rear axel of my bike. Also, my youtube feed is now filled with videos by people with Africa twins.

That KLR needs to see a trail or two before the end of the summer....

@@TallManMoto It absolutely does. I got new brake pads for it...It actually doesn't need them which is sort of sad. (They can go down to less than 1 mill before they need replacing.)

Nicely done! At what milage did you change them? How do you like the shinkos? Had some last year and switched to motoz rallz. Great for dirt but I do miss the shinkos on the road.

Chain made it to just shy of 25k miles. And I love the Shinko in the rear... I put a K60 Scout in the front and I was REALLY happy with how that tire dealt with washouts and ruts whioe we were at Touratech... and it still handles really well on pavement. I loved the 705's on pavement too but the front wasn't confidence inspiring off-road.

I'm actually eyeing the Mitas E07's as my next set of tires... I LOVE the tread on those. Need to do some research. But I've got another 5k miles at least on these.

@@TallManMoto I love my Mitas E07's front and rear but they are horrible to get on. Super stiff sidewall. I ruined the back tire, had to buy another and took it to the Honda shop for them to put on the rim. Not sure I could ever change the tube out on a ride. But love the tread and love how they are on road and off.

Once you own special tools then you can do it cheaper next time and you can charge your friends "Beer" to do their jobs also!

I'd guess the gear lever? Should be the only lever that needs removal if I remember right?
