Could never understand when all the orginal members were in the band, they used extensive backing musicians live. But now when it's just Mike and Bruce in their 80s, they FINALLY realize the Beach Boys don't need a backing band!
In the early days it was just the Beach Boys IE 1961-1964 and Brian toured it was just the Beach Boys (check out multiple TV and gig performances). Even without Brian it wasn't until 1967 when the beach Boys picked up extra musicians to augment the live line up. Also this is a 9 person band that involves only 2 Beach Boys so they have hired 7 people to be their backing band and these hired musicians are doing lead vocals so I'm not sure of your point?
@@Blend42 My point exactly. They are all only playing what is necessary and it sounds raw and great. Of course in the early days it was just the Beach Boys. But all through the 70s & 80s they had multiple people playing keyboards at the same time (why?), a non-band member bassist, extra lead guitarist, horn section, even an extra drummer. How cool would they have sounded without all this extra fluff is what I'm saying.
Great to see them doing "Good To My Baby." One of my favorites.
John Cowsill rocks Darlin
