Hi I am planning on majoring in product design. As a girl, have you ever felt intimidated or felt as if no one really listen to your ideas? I am so interested in product design so I joined my college product design club. It was mostly full of guys and my voice was not heard. I'm feeling a little intermediated to switch majors but I really want to study ID. Every person I have spoken to about my decision looked at me in confusion and told me I should pursue something else like "fashion design" or fine art. For some reason they do not think I would do well in it. This is disheartening to me. Did people around you ever doubt you and your major choice? Do you feel comfortable in group projects with mostly guys?Do you feel like this major has prepared you for the real world/ workforce? If you already graduated, is it hard to find work in id?

Hi! I can relate. Being also a film major, I had to work on projects all the time primarily with guys, which was intimidating. But I never let that lead me to back down from what I want to do, only motivated me to be better, learn more, become more skilled so that I’m not compared to my classmates / co workers by how I look, but rather my skill. People doubting your choice and telling you to switch / intimidating you don’t have the final say in what will make you happy. Do what you want to do if you are confident in yourself that you can do it!
