It's part of a set, the next note begins another tune (Callaghan's).

Yer man O' Flynn.....cool as a pipering cucumber...... they were playing SO fast, too fast...... there is a point when the tune loses it's beauty & nuance....but I think in this case they just about got away with it
I agree with your main point, but I wouldn't say that Liam O'Flynn ever played what I would call TOO fast. He had far too much musical taste for that.
