- A simple overview of how to interpret a timegrapher output. I'm putting on a couple of watches, and try to interpret what I see on the timegrapher.
All the the help of my lovely assistant Holly!
And yes, I should have adjusted the lift angle when changing from the Constellation to the ST2130 ;-)

Eleven years ago and still very informative and usefull. I have a much better understanding of my as yet unpacked timegrapher. Thank you!
Congratulations on this excellent video! Honest, clear, informative and to he point.
thank you for the video, I just bought the same timegrapher ant this was a great help. I read your blog often .
WJY DO YOU WANT A TIMEMACHINE, YOUR NOT AN WATCHAMKER...
Thanks for the video. I won't open my watches myself but still I'm considering buying such a device because then I can judge the health status of my watches and maybe also the right moment to let them be serviced, which may also return the spend bugs. And I like measuring devices ;-)
a trick: watch series at Flixzone. I've been using it for watching lots of of movies these days.
@Elijah Owen Yea, have been using Flixzone for since november myself =)
What excellent information and good display of the same. "Informative and useful" as other have commented. I now understand what I am looking at regarding reading of the 'snow' effect. It is exactly what we beginners need to know. Thank you!"
thank you for the effort you put into your video. I have built a pick up and I'm using audacity to capture the sound, then in theory using some other software to try to understand the recordings. There is a pretty sharp learning curve to make sense of what I see. Your video has helped me along.
Fantastic video. Thanks a lot
Great video. Thanks for sharing this and explaining the details there.
Excellent video and explanation. Thank you!
My "cheap" chineseamazon version has highlighted some older watches that clearly need attention.
It's a nice little timegrapher, excellent for the price. There are also TYMC timegraphers made in Hong Kong, but those are almost as expensive as a Witschi or a Vibrograf...but they do come in a self-contained portable version.
Glad to hear that the ST2130 is a fine movement. Just bought a couple of DongFeng reissues from SeaGull.
And you're using Ubuntu on your computer, too. Bloody marvellous!
You have to google for the movement in question - they don't all have the same lift angle.
As the most important thing is getting the beat error and rate right, and to assure that the line is nice and flat, it isn't that super-important to have the correct lift angle.
thank you for your tutorial. it helps a lot.
ive just brought one of these timegraphers from ali express £109 shipped to the uk .they are very well made ;-)
+orgazmick hi' can you please tell me did you have to pay import duties or customs tax or anything? thanks in advance.
+jfdomega Mechanical Watch Timing Machine Multifunction Timegrapher No.1000 for rolex, watch makers and watch hobbyists from aliexpress £94 +24.95 shipping hope this helps
+orgazmick sorry can't remember about custom charges but still worth the money if u like fine tuning watches
ok' thanks for your help.
Very informative, gives me a great idea how one of these machines is used. You explain it very well and clearly, you definetely know your stuff! It is amazing some of the thing coming from China, they have their own smarts just like the rest of the world, and when they haven't been 'hired' to produce plastic trash, they can make some excellent products themselves. Great job!
I don't think changing the lift angle affects the beat error. I think it only changes the amplitude reading. I could be wrong, but my research and my own toying with my new timegrapher lead me to think I'm right.
thanks for posting, this is as good as your blog! hope you post more things like these! best wishes!
Great video. Thanks.
excellent video. learnt a little. ; )
.great video.. thank You so much for sharing.. :-)
Very educational. Thank you!!!!
Thanks for your video, its a shame it got cut off early.
I didn't realise the lift angle was not related to the angle of the watch on the mic/stand, I was under the impression the life angle was the physical angle it was on the stand.
Just bought the same model from a UK supplier for £88. Can't wait to have a go
Thanks, just bought one. I'll give it a try.
thank you great video
Great and informative!
this MTG-1000 timegrapher come from my company.
Thanks for your share
Can I help you have a question about this device?
your e-mail ?
Same model that I have! Beautiful Moloch of a child!
Dear Christian, your video is great, I just purchased the time grapher 5000 and was wondering if you have had the chance to review that online? I have not found a video that gives me the details as this machine is a bit more complex than the 1000 time grapher. If you don't have a video in the making, would you know of another watchmaker that is using this 5000 model so I can get into contact with him/her? Many thanks in advance, Victor in New York.
I just bought the same model you have. Your video was an excellent guide for me. Where can I find lift angles for certain watches? Is there a guide or something I can reference to? Thank you have a great day.

Thanks for that, I'd been looking at how my 60+ year old watch was doing post-service on the service guy's timegrapher and didn't understand anything beyond the error in seconds per day (but I took photos). I do have one question - what is the significance of whether the graph is flat or sloping? (Also what's it graphing?)
YOUA RE GOIUNG TO BUY A TIMEGRAPHER DUE TO AN OLD WATCH ?? REALLY?
Thank you for the video. I will definetely buy one.
Thanks excellent explication, excellent
Hello: I admire your video!!! it is most interesting and useful. As an angineer I love it and I would appreciate to have one to explore how my watches really are!!! thank you.!!!
Thanks - v helpful. Just received my timegrapher today. Is it best for the test period to be set on 4s as you have done?
Hi thank you for this fantastic video ive also have one of these timing machines but im not sure which angle to use can you tell me thanks ady ps mainly seiko 7009a
Thank you for this review. I will soon purchase this timegrapher. Price here in the US is $200 including postage. Do know where I might find lift angles for old american pocket watches?
Thanks again.
Is it a must to know and set the lift angle in the instrument?
Only if you want an accurate amplitude reading ...
What was the 3rd watch with the Seagull movement?
thank you for your video. How does one determine the lift angle?
Just google for your movement + "lift angle"
And wich is my movement????
I THINK IAM GOING TO BUY A QUARTZ
Usually the lines from the pallet for drift up or down. Is there a reason for that?
Just bought one. Thanks for info. Is it wrong if my Hulk is about 0 I can't remember is tiny bit plus or minutes face up... but minus ten seconds when face forward. I keep on watch winder so it gains a lot of time ... when not on me... my yacht master and gmt both pretty close on all positions
Firstly, don't put your watch an an autowinder (unless you also keep your car engine running all the time). A bit of variation is normal, but 10s on a Rolex movement is a bit much.
@@TheRealCheckmate So you keep your car engine running 24/7 even if you don't use the car?
I see you kept the lift angle at 49 should it have been 52 for the others or are they all 49 ? regards
Do you know what lift angle I might try for old American pocket watches?
Love your video
How do I determine the angle for my Tudor big block 79180 made in 1993
Can you tell me how do i use this to correct the beat error of my many anniversary clock, and where do i get one of these, I am in the
USA
thank you!
Seagull's lift angle is at still 49 ?
what does +8 s/d is? i mean .. the s/d part.. seconds per day?
I like your voice for teaching.😂
Vielen Dank aus Spanien!
Bout to buy a seiko rep watch and they will send timegraph qc pics first. Now i have a rough idea
WHO THE FUK BUY SEIKO REPLICAS?? SEIKO I SHIT AND YOU ARE GOING TO BUY A SEIKO REPLICA, REALLY, THERE ARE PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD....
Super cute kid
I just purchases a timeograph I need to know what lift angle I need to set it at it’s a Tudor 79180 Chronograph big head.
Be aware that for co-axial (Omega) movements the amplitude readings will not be reliable with this timegrapher.
KEKEE THAT SHIT
THASKS FOR THE ADVICE,,,, NUT AIM NOT INTERESTED IN OMEGAS.
Why so?
great, thanks for the video. The little one looks bored, :)
Phoockeroonie talks in pounds but speaks with German accent. Where's he from?
this one is fake, no serial number on the back side. . it is not MTG-1000
WHO CARES, BEATS VERY WELL PROBABLY BETTER THAN MANY ORIGINAL ONESSSS
Kids are very funny but they give us n headheachhh
is it your daughter?
WELL, GIRLDFRIEND, SHE ISNT.! SO WHY THE FUK BOTHER???
PEOPLE BUY SO MUCH VINTAGE SHIT FOR LUXURY PRICES
Christian (guy in the video) has a wrong idea about amplitude. Lame.
How is +7 s/d good? That’s +49 seconds week - almost a minute a week off - or you can buy a $16.95 Casio and be accurate within 3 seconds a year.
Maybe you are new to the world of mechanical watches. The watch is over 60 years old, and 7s/day is very good for that. Ask your grandfather.
