I don't own or drive a GX, or own or drive any other vehicle that needs a suspension lift, but this video was so well put together, I could not help but to watch this sub-30 minute video end to end. For once RUclips actually recommended a video I enjoyed. Thanks guys for the hard work and effort you put in. Aloha🤙🤙
Great video, I was lazy at first and didn’t read all the comments so be sure to do that. 1. Ironman Customer service is top notch, when in doubt just call them 2. Ditto pax front…Jack the driver side to lower pax side or it will fight you 3. Rear shocks come with two extra washers each side, I didn’t need them, verified by customer service. They are there to take up play on bottom mount if needed mine was perfect as is 4) spray your bolts with penetrating oil. If anything seems tight take steps to heat if possible to avoid shearing bolts. I sheared a rear sway bar bolt. This added a half day to the schedule and two trips to the store…wasn’t able to extract after heating multiple times and drilling out and trying extractors. Ended up drilling out and re-tapping. It’s M10x1.25 in case it happens to you, hole size 11/32” or 8.5mm (I think but check yourself) 5) rear pax top shock access is smaller than driver side on my 2015 gx. I opened the access area up a bit with a small cut off wheel/ bending. 6) great wrenches help immensely, def have those 7) for rear shocks, the balancing act as you see in the video is a pain. I found it way easier to use a bungee to hold it up, going through bottom shock hole to the bump stop. Takes a couple tries to get height right but made it super easy 8) pax UCA bolt gets held up on lines in the engine bay, just heads up you might have to fanangle it. I used a pet pry Bar and my hand to move it correctly out. To get back in it was not needed 9) new Panard bar if equipped - be sure to lift the rear and to unload it, will help Versus fighting it. Also ensure the little bends are in right orientation to allow sway bar mount enough clearance. 10) use taller Jack stands , my smaller ones worked but had to use wood to increase height

Great video! Installed my rears on my 4runner today and would like to add that a small 6mm open ended wrench works much better at holding the top of the strut vs the vise grips.
All done. 10 hours doing this solo in my garage - going slowly and methodically. Had one question that was solved with a quick phone call to Ironman. This is the 4th vehicle I have lifted. That was probably the best how to video ever. Perfect combination of tips and even addresses common obstacles before they happen. Outstanding can’t wait to put mine in.
Good tutorial, however, the one thing missing in this tutorial is the passenger side front strut. It isn't as easy as the driver front but if you use a floor jack to compress the driver side sway bar (underneath the kdss hydraulic cylinder), that would allow you more than enough room to remove and install the passenger strut.
@@yota22RE81 thank you! I had purchased new bushings anyways so it all worked out but it added hours of work, many swear words, and lots of post-wrench drinking. Hi Trevor, The Foam Cell Pro coil-overs are adjustable for 2 to 3" of lift in the front. We have a great spec sheet with exact measurements to get you started. If you would like a copy of the PDF simply email us at info@ironman4x4america.com and we would be happy to send it to you. Thanks!
Great question! Out of the big Australian brands, we are the only one that is still family-owned and operated. Our beginnings were in suspension, unlike the others. The Foam Cell Pros are simply a great performing product that is strong and reliable without the expensive $$$ and high maintenance. Here is a good video explaining the suspension. ruclips.net/video/GfGAx600T9s/видео.html
Great job. I like your enthusiasm and professionalism. I'm considering purchasing a rig for serious overland use. I'm looking at the lexus line. Any recommendations?. Thank you for sharing.
Can't go wrong with either the LX or the GX, just depends on how big of vehicle you need and what you plan on doing with it. Lots out there to choose from.
The process is virtually the same with all of the Prado 120/150 based vehicles, (FJ Cruiser, 2003+ 4Runner, GX470, GX460. Deleting the airbags would be the only big difference between the vehicles.
@@Ironman4x4America The video was great. This guy is a TBA and a great salesmen. I hope he's paid well. I have a 2013 GX 460 Premium build underway. Do you guys have a video or instructions for deleting the airbags (including any electronic disconnects)? Also, is it necessary to delete them (I assume yes, but double checking)? Also, I see you have an air bag delete kit. Is this deletion kit necessary as an addition to the Ironman lift package? I've also heard one would want to limit lift to 2 - 2.5" inches where KDSS is present. Do you agree? My goal is to get 285/75 r17s on the vehicle. If this goal is ill-advised, please let me know. I'm excited to install your kit.
I would be curious to see how you lined up the lower shock bolt with the upper installed, I tried that and could not get it aligned. Had to install the bottom first and since the foam cell shocks have no internal pressure it took some work to get the shaft extended up into the frame. Got it done though!

Hey mate Appreciate your videos. Just purchased a foam cell pro kit for my 2019 150 Prado and installed the front struts and rear coil springs. I have two questions for you if I may. Firstly does the washer stacking on the rear shock apply to all the vehicles? I know my Prado does not a have flanged washer on the top side from factory. Secondly the foam cell pro front shock has a much narrower bottom bush than the factory shock. Does iron man install washers inbetween the bush and lower control arm mount to take up the additional clearance. There was nothing in the instructions or fitting kit to suggest that you do. Thanks again.
Hello, We do not get the Toyota Prado here in North America. I would reach out to your local Ironman4x4 distributor for any inquiries about fitment with that vehicle. Here is the Australia website where you can find contact info for any distributor globally. ironman4x4.com/contact Hope this helps!
Thanks for the awesome video! Any reason why you disconnect the rear sway bay at the axle rather than disconnecting them up top around the kdss piston?
There are instructions included with the UCA's in the box. There is not a PDF of the suspension install, simply do the reverse of taking off the stock shocks and struts, and follow the steps in the video.
So didn’t knew the spindle and wheel assembly are not supposed to hang all the way out. I did the install before watching this, can you help me how to diagnose for any issues if I messed anything up?
Be sure to inspect your ABS and brake lines for any signs of damage, also make sure your CV's are good to go. You can always have a mechanic inspect everything if you are concerned. Hope this helps!
Great video Ironman America! I noticed your 460 had rear coils and no AVS. Are these options for the different trim levels of 460? I have an '07 sport 470 with AVS and rear airbags stock (honestly part of the reason I'm stalling on a suspension swap. The autolevelling is amazing plus the add 1.6" lift even when loaded, I also appreciate the AVS' adjustability for different conditions). As above I've been "shopping" lift options. I've shelved the yellows for various reasons not exclusive to ride quality and quite interested in the teals, especially at their price point, however I think I'm sold on the foam cell pros for various reasons. Your kit comes with the UCAs whish is a great upgrade with a 2" lift. Are they adjustable ball joint placement or fixed ball joint but positioned to account for lift and precise alignment? The meatiness of the shocks are a total selling point when compared to Bil and even Dob's. Thanks again and keep the vidz coming on the 460 family build? It's largely mirroring mine as I already have the rack and awaning and the "take it out and get familiar with your rig stock, and what it can do" is well underway. Keep up the great work and videos! *EDIT* I just answered my own control arm question by watching the video. ;) 👍 ruclips.net/video/luamOI2CQ1s/видео.html
do you absolutely have to put the other parts on the kdss system on as well or could you get away with backing out the shudder valve bolts two full revolutions and then just taking care of the rest of the rear and tighten them back up when your done?? any thing will help thank you:)
The stock panhard bar will contact the KDSS bracket bolt and make an annoying clunk. Having the KDSS compatible rear panhard bar and spacers help with clearance when you lift a KDSS equipped vehicle eliminating the contact.
@@Ironman4x4America I had trouble with both passenger sides. I had to drop the sway bar in the front too and that was a headache getting back in. I also used a spring compressor on the rear passenger because once the driver is installed the car starts to lift when you jack the other side up. Not a huge deal but I think it would help to see both sides.
Great vid! Does the KDSS (on KDSS equipped GX)becomes completely disengaged permanently after the kit is installed? If I need to eventually change the LCA to OEM will it matter if LCA is for KDSS or not? Thanks!
@@Ironman4x4America yes, I got the UCAs. My question was about the order of install. On the video, it was done separately and I was wondering if I should go ahead and replace the UCA while I have the shocks out? On the video the shocks are replaced and then UCAs (but there is a space question and extra care with the new shocks).
@@Ironman4x4America I have installed the lift on my Gx460, thank you for the video. It was very helpful, but I do have one comment. Please include a note (after the driver's front install section) saying that the front passenger side will require removing the skid plate, unbolting the sway-bar on the passenger side (you don't have to remove it), and jack the cylinder (driver's front side) to make sure the lower control arm on the passenger side drops so you can install the shock. I spent probably 2hrs trying to remove the original shock, then trying to install the new one...I had to stop the work and finish the next day (after researching the problem). Your video is great and very helpful, if you include the note above on a black screen it will be perfect! (you can see it here: instagram.com/p/CJBgIkhHBc1/?fbclid=IwAR36hj_h_vbXWw_eG38bT5yhaOmbxcOpRbk8oCGN1rKkaklaNMfTGv_haKQ). Just quick editing with the note will resolve it. If someone isn't sure they will at least be aware and it will prompt them to do the research.
I am looking at the Nitro kit for my GX470 without KDSS. I would like to do standard load front and back . Does anyone know what kind of ride to expect. I love the stock ride, but I know you'll lose that. Just want to see what to expect. Also wondering what amount of lift people have seen with the Nitro kit. I would like 2 to maybe 2.5 inches of lift.
Don't rush it, take your time. It can be done in 4 hours if you've done this a bunch otherwise give it the day to complete. Being thorough with a quality install is more important than being fast on an install.
I have a Lexus GX470 and i purchased the Stage 2 Suspension Kit. I searched high and low on your website for the KDSS disengagement Instructions but cannot find it. Please provide guidance in locating these instructions on your website. Thank you.
Because the springs have preload on them and with them being super beefy it's very difficult to get any adjustments in the vehicle. It's so much easier to. pull. the. strut assembly out, measure your spring seat height, and make the adjustment. Always remember that any adjustment made produces results at a 2:1 ratio.
Even with releasing the accumulator bolts, jacking up the driver side, and levering with a burke bar, I can’t get the bottom of my front passenger coil into its seat. Im stuck. Would a coil compressor help?
Our shocks will work with up to 3" of lift on those trucks. If you are lifted more than that you could use 80 Series 4" shocks. They will be valved firmer for the larger vehicle.
Do you need all 4 jack stands if you DON'T have KDSS? In other words, w/o KDSS, can I install these with 2 jack stands by doing the front jacked up, then lower it down and move to the back jacked up? Curious because I just watched your install video on the Tacoma and you only used 2 stands. I realize Tacos have leafs in the back but didn't know if it mattered. I still have to buy my jack stands and wondering if I need to buy 2 or 4 for my 4th Gen 4Runner. Thanks!
Hi John, yes with no KDSS you can get by with just 2 jack stands. I recommend the taller 6 -ton stands over the shorter 3-ton stands. It really makes a big difference having a bit more room under the vehicle!
At full droop the stock UCA's will hit the FCP coil overs. With any lift over 2" you will need UCA's to help with caster alignment and clearing bigger tires.
Use some PB blaster or Kroil penetrant and let it soak for a couple of days, heat can also help. Make sure to use anti-seize when you install the new ones to prevent this from happening.

I'm worried about having lights triggered on the dash after removing the OE suspension. Have you guys got adequate information on a step by step for us folks that have the AHC (automatic height control system)? I'm ready to make the move to Ironman because I believe it's going to work well for the type of desert running I do. I know there are too many questions to reply in this format so I'll probably give you guys a call next week. Your video tutorial of this install was spot on. Great job, to the point, covered all the bases, no dickin' around, Just a great professional production. Jeff
I have 2015 GX 460 Lux with air suspension. I hope we get a reply for GX 460 with rear air suspension.
You want the best? King all the way!
Nice work bro I just bought a 19 GX and traded a 18 lifted TRD off-road Tacoma and I live in Oregon I’d love if mine looked like that with BFGoodrich k02
So clever and just want more videos from you!!!
Awesome! What about the adjustment of the front shocks for lift?
Hi Trevor, The Foam Cell Pro coil-overs are adjustable for 2 to 3" of lift in the front. We have a great spec sheet with exact measurements to get you started. If you would like a copy of the PDF simply email us at info@ironman4x4america.com and we would be happy to send it to you. Thanks!
Tell me why I should go Ironman versus the other brands ("yellow" and "teal"): GO! I'm getting close to decision time 😬
I actually had this same question. I hope we get a reply.
Same
Yellow rides rough as hell unless you spend 3k and teal has a high failure rate even with the high end.
Great step by step video!
Thank you!
When pulling the rear shock, it can be easier to wedge the wrench, then spin the shock body by hand.
Great detailed video. Where was this when I lifted my KDSS 4Runner?
Thank you!
Just curious. Is 135 foot lbs for the lower shock bolt too much torque? Should we stay on 70ish foot lbs per factory specs?
Impressive great job man
Is the rear disassembly the same with the GX460 with rear air suspension? Thanks for the videos!

Hey mate
Appreciate your videos.
No real preference, either would work. We find that at the axel can be easier to re-connect with the lift installed.
Great video. Is there a link to the pdf instructions to print out that you mention? I just bought a kit and can’t find them on the site.
*EDIT*
I just answered my own control arm question by watching the video. ;) 👍
ruclips.net/video/luamOI2CQ1s/видео.html
I believe the Luxury trim levels of the GX460 all have the rear airbags. The Base and Premium trims did not unless it was a dealer-installed option.
Dude u r too smart, bravo
Hello! What kit would work for a 2019 4runner TRD ORP with KDSS? Thank you!
Great tutorial
do you absolutely have to put the other parts on the kdss system on as well or could you get away with backing out the shudder valve bolts two full revolutions and then just taking care of the rest of the rear and tighten them back up when your done?? any thing will help thank you:)
The stock panhard bar will contact the KDSS bracket bolt and make an annoying clunk. Having the KDSS compatible rear panhard bar and spacers help with clearance when you lift a KDSS equipped vehicle eliminating the contact.
Great video. thanks for the help
You're welcome, glad you found it helpful!
Thanks!
No need to disable and remove KDSS. It will still function after any lift. Just follow the steps we outline in the video and you will be good to go.
Great instructional video but damn show us what it looks like lifted!!!!
Is the tool list also applicable for a 2009 Toyota FJ Cruiser? Do you have a separate list of necessary tools that is specific to that make and model?
Yes, the tool list will be nearly identical. The FJ Cruiser is based on the Prado platform just like the 4runner and GX so the suspension is the same.
@@Ironman4x4America Thanks! And what tool(s) is used for adjusting the height of the front coil overs?
Great video! I am getting ready to install my kit this weekend. Is there a reason not to do the replacement of the UCAs while you have the shocks out?
Its a great time to do it, plus with our UCA's you can get your caster back to a good place.
@@lettheroadtakeyou Yes absolutely. Its a great time to install them because you are all ready in there.
@@lettheroadtakeyou I see no reason to not remove the UCAs when the shock body is out. It would make it easier to put the shock body back into place.
great video - very clear - thanks
Glad you liked it!
I didn't see you do the panhard bar. So is that an optional mod when you are doing the back?
If you need any rear track adjustment after lifting then the adjustable panhard bar is a great solution for that.
Great video!
Doing this, this weekend. My help had to back out. Am I crazy to attempt this solo? Also, how long should it take me?
Don't rush it, take your time. It can be done in 4 hours if you've done this a bunch otherwise give it the day to complete. Being thorough with a quality install is more important than being fast on an install.
Took me 5 hours. Came out great! Got it aligned and love the ride. I have a question about caster adjustment. I'll be calling next week.
I have a Lexus GX470 and i purchased the Stage 2 Suspension Kit. I searched high and low on your website for the KDSS disengagement Instructions but cannot find it. Please provide guidance in locating these instructions on your website. Thank you.
Hi.. can you adjust the height after the front struts are installed on the vehicle?
Because the springs have preload on them and with them being super beefy it's very difficult to get any adjustments in the vehicle. It's so much easier to. pull. the. strut assembly out, measure your spring seat height, and make the adjustment. Always remember that any adjustment made produces results at a 2:1 ratio.
Even with releasing the accumulator bolts, jacking up the driver side, and levering with a burke bar, I can’t get the bottom of my front passenger coil into its seat. Im stuck. Would a coil compressor help?
Great video thx
Glad you liked it and hope it helped!
Do you guys do installs in your Oregon location?
We sure do! Contact customer service and book your appointment today!
Is there a diff drop kit for the GX? Is this something compatible with the one available for the fj- 4runner?
There sure is. Here you go: ironman4x4america.com/differential-drop-spacer-kit-for-lexus-gx460-gx470/
Thanks man✊🏽
What loads did you choose for suspension?
Hi with gx460 do you need to pull any fuses to remove the High, low or normal symbols on your dash?
No, simply disconnect the air compressor unit and you should not have any dash lights.
Love your foam cell pro shocks! Is there going to be an extended travel version ever available for gx/4runner?
Are aftermarket UCAs a required mod to fit the FCP front coilovers?
At full droop the stock UCA's will hit the FCP coil overs. With any lift over 2" you will need UCA's to help with caster alignment and clearing bigger tires.
Is there an Ironman foam cell pro for 2017 Ranger with 4" lift?
wouldn't you need a wheel alignment done right after? It wasn't mentioned.
Yes plan to have an alignment done after the suspension install.
Hey do you guys to installs in your Oregon location?
We sure do! Contact customer service and book your appointment today!
Awesome
Does the kit come with front upper shock mounts?
If you choose the prebuilt option it will come with strut tops.
Are the UCAs required if I don’t want any lift
If you are not lifting your vehicle then the UCA's are not needed.
Will this be available in Australia?
Yes this is all available in Australia for your Prado 120 or Prado 150.
11:25 sounds like Gollum in Lord Of The Rings...lol
Beaver! Awesome
What roof rack is that?
Its our Hybrid flat rack for the GX460, found here: ironman4x4america.com/lexus-gx460-hybrid-flat-top-roof-rack-6-length/
would like to know if this setup clears 33.34.35's
Just the lift itself 33 yes 35 no. 35 will work with a lot of trimming to the front bumper and cutting and bending the pinch welds.
Nice!
what about airbag delete though :-P
My castlenut won't budge. Can I just sawzall the entire thing off since my ironman kit comes with UCA?
Use some PB blaster or Kroil penetrant and let it soak for a couple of days, heat can also help. Make sure to use anti-seize when you install the new ones to prevent this from happening.
