Coolest and the most spontaneous thing I've ever seen 😜 so much talent here...Jon Batiste deserves all the Grammys he got this year 2022 ... legendary stuff.
Jon Batiste you’re going to turn NY into Second Sister of New Orleans… Brilliant and so much joy and happiness from you!!!!!! Thank you so much and praying for you and Your beautiful wife and may you touch all with your many astonishing gifts and continue to transform and heal our Earth… We are our brother’s keeper and family and joy shared, brings peace…. So play on and bring your tsunami of joy and love through music, dance… art… play on and on … thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!!!!
You know a great drummer when then they can play a single instrument & make it sound like a kit. You get two of these percussionists, & you're golden...
Thanks to ALL involved on getting this online. Performers, the recording crew, the security dude, LSSC,...everyone. This is a great reminder of why I love New York City so much. To think I, or anyone for that matter, might have missed that by minutes today due to traffic or just walking a bit faster or slower, and to be blessed with it online is awesome and a credit to the positive, constructive, and entertaining ways this medium can be used. For what it's worth, this vid is also a great showcase for midtown NYC, the diversity, and how people treat each other. Beautiful. Thanks Again
sweetness in my heart - thanks to the music gods living in all of us - john is a genius & so are those who walk, dance, play and hum with him (I want a pair of red sneakers & to be a Carnegie on Wednesdays!)
Definitely didn't expect a rich white guy to join in on the dancing, who knew a tambourine or a cowbell solo could be so good, and damn that trombone is great.
White folks with heart are dancing - if not on the outside in their soul - take a look at all the cultural copying of phrases like "Right On!" & covering tunes from Muddy Waters, Elizabeth Cotten, Bessie Smith, Sister Rossetta Tharpe, Little Richard - then came Elvis, The Rolling Stones, Rory Block, Elaine McIlwaine, John Paul Hammond, Janis Joplin - not all white folk have wax in their ears :) I'd would die to phrase a tune like Billie Holiday - "God Bless the Child whose got his own" - plenty of artists have covered this... anyway
I tried all the way through Junior and Senior High to master the Trombone - and our final test was "Flight of the Bumble-bee" - on the TROMBONE!!! Just passing (I got a B+) was like "they should make a memorial statue of me!!" Seriously a hard instrument - but it made me learn the Treble Clef - and after the torture of learning to play such an instrument with no frets, and no keys, and only breath control, "umbrachure" (hell, I can't remember how to spell it): lip position!) and a movable length of brass to make the sound higher or lower - every instrument afterwards was pretty easy, with these exceptions: the fret-less bass, the violin, the Cello, and when I got to the electric guitar - oh, my God, I thought I'd gone to heaven. Sweet, sweet music... This band - amazing. My favorite out of all of them is the last one, visually, that I thought I would pick - until I heard him kick into a drum solo... on the Tambourine! I love this band, and am so glad they've found a semi-permanent home. This is a musician's dream gig - big money, total freedom, and the chance to do other projects on the side. I have never heard ANYONE do that on a tambourine - and I've listen ed to and played with a lot of Tambourine players who were REALLY good - but THIS? He took it to a whole different level of fluidity, grace, dynamics, and even dance clicks to supplement his beat. This guy's soul itself is a complete drum-kit. With a stroke of luck, they came together, and man. what a ride! My favorite of all the late-show bands that I've ever heard! Thanks for this. Made me smile. I would have jumped up and started playing a coffee cup with a spoon - or something. These people are the real deal - they made through all the egos, the heartache, the cheating, the robberies, the betrayals - and still feel the pure joy of just creating harmony and beat.
Bravo!!!! Thank you for describing the musicians’ journey… rarely supported but deserves huge amplification in schools … The arts would cure mental health alone if we all supported them with our tax dollars and in our communities like sports… anyway… best wishes and thank you!!!!!!
awsome - ive recently came by a jazz "concert" in a local subwaystation. Those sort of public music sessions are truly amazing. Awsome idea, awsome music!
Jon and the band Stay Human making joyful music and reminding people on their way to work to do what they do with a joyful heart ♥️ and connect with others
My Birthday happened to be the 22nd. I am looking at the Live Riot post. Hello you two. Your story inspired me so much. I got a happy feeling still watching on that Sunday morning broadcast. I know I wrote you both. Mrs . Batiste you looked wonderful. You could see your both so in love. As I wrote before. Last year I was 66 and for second time diagnosed with colon cancer. My first was twenty-one years before on Nov. 7, 2000. I am 67 now and getting stronger and trying to get my self together to keep moving forward. My Danny is my best healed and saved me three times. Twice literally ending up on a ventilator two times. Gosh it's okay because we going to make it. Congratulations also.
I think it might also be that the people thought it was like a music video or something important. I mean if you saw a camera crew filming a live performance, you're probably gonna think they're doing their own thing and not to interfere with it.
there is def. no Camara Crew, it seems like a Mobile Phone Video, nothing wong with that though! I live in Berlin and here you can find Musicians on every second corner, so New York would have that times 10?!
She (Maddie Rice) is a newer edition so I think she's still getting comfortable. She seems a little nervous and I don't blame her for being so young and playing with the great Jon Batiste on a show with Colbert that's so much more visibility than she is used to.
ALL of them. It's just this amazing ecstasy of sound.... For me it transcends even sexual tension and goes above it. Dixieland jazz is the best feel-good jazz there is, IMO. It's specifically meant to be played on the street with tons of people around.
My six year old said, "This makes me want to play music!" 😭❤️
Mr John Batiste the Pied piper of music, Joy and Love
Perfect description!
This is the REAL way to get to Carnegie Hall. So much joy!
Free open-air music everywhere! Forever!
Jon Batiste you bring joy with your music. Much love to you.
This makes me proud to be a musician, they don't care about entertainment or getting paid, but they look like they're having fun
Can't agree more.
you said it!
Yet you really can't be called a musician until you make money out of it.
Are you kidding me? i'm a pro, been teaching 30 years, and all of my students are musicians!
Who says they don't care about makin' money? In fact, I imagine they're making a lot of money on the late show and happier for it.
Coolest and the most spontaneous thing I've ever seen 😜 so much talent here...Jon Batiste deserves all the Grammys he got this year 2022 ... legendary stuff.
🤩👍🏽❤️Yeeez BayBee‼️✅

Midtown suckers never been so lucky - this is what we need! Mad talent! My face hurts from smiling and I ain even halway thru
This type of music and fun environment is what makes New Orleans so fun. I wish more cities would have live open music
I never thought it would be cool to be in a late night show band until LSSC.

New Orleans meets New York. Bravo!
You know a great drummer when then they can play a single instrument & make it sound like a kit. You get two of these percussionists, & you're golden...

"Now THAT'S how you fuckin do it!!" - Paul Schaffer (former leader of the CBS Orchestra)
You can really appreciate how talented they are in this video in a way that is somewhat missed (though never entirely) on The Late Show
I'm just getting a warmer and warmer feeling about this show. There's something different going on with those Colbert folk.
THAT WAS AMAZING
What a treat! Thank you to them all!
No tambourine solo is ever long enough.
Do they have a cowbell section? We need more cowbell we need more cowbell. Love it.
You guys all are just amazing! Thank you for this wonderful perfomance!
.....GOT to be one of the best jams i´ve ever seen.....love it.

WOW!!! Magical!!!
Awesome cowbell solo! Loved the whole video!
The last time that I tried to start a love riot, I was put on a government watch list.
You're lucky, I was listed in the local sex offenders list. Hahaha...
How can people just go walking by and ignore these guys??? There should have been a crowd jiving along with 'em.
I can’t believe it either
Awesome playing!! 10/10 :)
For those asking for more cowbell 8:30
That's my boy Louis Cato!
I have a fever, and the only prescription is: more cowbell.
Still needs more cowbell!!!!
he kill that cowbell
Maddie Rice needed a big 12 string to make a bit more noise! Great band, great energy!

That Jazz life ❤️
this is what love sounds like...thank you.
Does nobody in NYC have time to have fun? I would've been dancing up and down the god damn streets!
Work? Kids? Store? I don't see how any of those things can possibly justify forgoing a dance parade
I think it might also be that the people thought it was like a music video or something important. I mean if you saw a camera crew filming a live performance, you're probably gonna think they're doing their own thing and not to interfere with it.
Dylan Yang
That or you shake your ass off for the folks back home!
Anyways this musical procession was lit
there is def. no Camara Crew, it seems like a Mobile Phone Video, nothing wong with that though! I live in Berlin and here you can find Musicians on every second corner, so New York would have that times 10?!
bACK IN nEW oRLEANS THERE WOULD BE A mob.
NY needs to visit NOLA next time. This is just a taste of the quarter. John Batiste, keep it real.
This video made me get up and dance!!! This video makes me so happy!
This is what music was made for
Fantastic. Love it.
I love these guys
@9:16 OMG! I JUST O'D FROM MY PRESCRIPTION OF COWBELL!!!!
Awesome! Bummer that the guitar can't compete with volume. Maybe a little strap on mini-amp next time? :)
_* get the sound guy to carry it!
Yea, it would add a nice contrast
It was facebook streamed, so it would be better if they had more than a phone.
Isn't this problem specifically why resonator guitars were invented?
someone give her a Dobro pls
Jazz is all about the notes you can't hear. She nailed it!
I always think she's too far down in the mix (except the show's opening credits which is perfect). I'd like to hear her do a dobro too.
This is literally fire
This is awesome.
Jon your the best … New York your the greatest. life and Spirit is still here
They have to do more bits on the show with Jon Batiste. Some of the best parts are the quote aside comments you here from him off screen
Tash and Sax guy was on friggin' point.
Beautiful interview prayers 🙏❤
Thank you, that was so much fun.
7:30 When it's useful that the trombone is literally the loudest instrument.
This is awesome, please do more of this. :)
Tmpourine guy is the only true strutter! Great music as always
what the world needs now, is .......... more musicians!!!
21st century second line. It took about 10 minutes for the band to loosen up but loosen up they did.
Jon , you are a great example....stay human!
That trombone!! That trombone!!
I need this on MP3!!
that car horn was on point
Jon Is A Legend.
*gets down*

Happy, happy music. What kind of shit down-votes this? I'm dancing my way home, and downloading this to my iPod.
Les miserables
They don't get it, it's truly transcendent.
Please come to Atlanta!!!!
Too long.... But can't stop watching 😎
This is so awesome and funny. Just the girl standing there seems so out not being all crazy and jumping around to the music
She (Maddie Rice) is a newer edition so I think she's still getting comfortable. She seems a little nervous and I don't blame her for being so young and playing with the great Jon Batiste on a show with Colbert that's so much more visibility than she is used to.
Reverend State True
America needs more of this and less of... the hate and violence stuff..
I wonder if any of the wind instrument players were close to passing out. Tambourine and cowbell guys were just cruising lol.
P.S This is good shit!

ALL of them. It's just this amazing ecstasy of sound.... For me it transcends even sexual tension and goes above it. Dixieland jazz is the best feel-good jazz there is, IMO. It's specifically meant to be played on the street with tons of people around.
