Stephen Colbert took over as host of The Late Show on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. Colbert is best known for his work as a television host, writer, actor, and producer, and best known for his charity work teaching English as a second language on Tunisian date farms. Prior to joining the CBS family -- and being officially adopted by network president Les Moonves -- Colbert helmed “The Colbert Report,” which aired nearly 1,500 episodes and required Stephen to wear nearly 1,500 different neckties. The program received two Peabody Awards, two Grammy Awards, and several unwelcome shoulder massages. It won two Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series in 2013 and 2014, both of which appear to have been lost in the move. Colbert is pronounced koʊlˈbɛər, according to Wikipedia. His understudy is William Cavanaugh, who will be hosting The Late Show approximately one third of the time. Good luck, Bill!"
Does Colbert know how lucky and blessed he is to have this crew? Good lord.

I agree with you on that immediately!

You should have seen Jon's first show with stephen, if you can see the entire segment. It was one of the most incredibile music shows in late night shows that ever existed. ImO
Stephen should do a segment interviewing all the band members, they seem like a fun group of people!
But then people would say that Stephen's show is so unpopular that they would resort to interviewing themselves.
+A Concerned Citizen do you think that he really cares about what random uninformed people think?
+Neonfoxy Right! Random uninformed people suck anyway.
Yes, I'd enjoy that.
Jon Batiste's happiness is infectious.
I hope more people appreciate how The Late Show has brought an authentic and extremely talented slice of New Orleans to NY and their TV screens
OMG ... How i miss hearing you daily when you were on the Late Show with Stephen.
What an exquisite Spirit you are!
Blessings to you and your amazing wife. Love surrounds you both and Lights up all who are around you.
Amazing video! in case anyone was wondering the nucleus of this session was Chopin's Waltz Opus 64 No. 1, "Petit Chien". Hope this helps!
Thanks!
Makes sense, the harmony sounded like it belonged to the Romantic period.
I love his jazzy arrangement of the piece, but there's something that reminds me of my old piano teacher and her metronome. (and fly swatter when I didn't do it right)
Jon Batist and his band are soooo fresh, unique and amazing! Jon was born with this rare talent and style.
I don't know how you found him, just make sure you don't lose him.
most sincerely,
CATBALEUE
the simple fact is each one of these musicians lives and dies by the sword. None of them is there because they "knew" someone, every one of them is absolutely top of their game and unstoppable. No mistakes, no downtime, no excuses ever!! :) love hearing these guys at work. Keep up the good work guys.
They all got my respect. Bunch of real talented musicians. Damn what a fine improvisation. Really worth watching the whole video.
This was extraordinary. The person handling the camera also needs a raise. So smooth and they actually knew how to navigate the stage.
They have an osmos stabilizer for the phone.
+Lance Besen that specific one? how did you get that information?
Too bad they filmed it in vertical
+caiocc12 nah that's just because it was a Facebook live video.
Interesting... does FB have its own unique aspect ratio for live content? The "stats for nerds" says the resolution on this is 854x480, which is obviously not proportional to the dimensions of the video but rather of the YT frame.
Stunning improvisations. Jon creates a container for all to shine.
Jesus that Jon Baptiste is freaking genius, truly one of the most talented young jazzists that I've heard for a while and how he enjoys playing. I think if you're that passionate about something in life you can consider yourself a lucky person, to have found your gift and purpose!
We need more Jon Batiste and Stay Human features like this
The BEST show band. I'm such a huge fan. Ugh can't stop watching/listening!
Jon Batiste is the man with the band. Always brilliant.
Man are they talented. I'm glad they uploaded this and showed them off
Every single one of them is stupid talented. Awesome performance.
Just brilliant band group that is Jon Batiste and Stay Human. A beautiful team up with Mr Colbert. They just match!
Thank You!! Please continue to broadcast these 'Stay Wednesday Sessions'. It's refreshing to have the opportunity to witness these raw and uncut performances in their glorious entirety, as the home audience of the Late Show usually gets to view only fleeting glimpses of this stellar ensemble.
Best late-night band of all time! Pure genius.
every single one of them is extremely talented colbert is blessed to have them
The whole clip is absolutely breath-taking. What really calls my attention was what Batiste did at that stretch/musical (re)phrasing at minute five and fifty-four seconds until minute six and thirty-six seconds.
This brought tears to my eyes. Absolutely beautiful music.
No dis to The Roots, but this ensemble is the hottest group in late night. Young, ripping, and lead by one hell of a talent.
Colbert better give them all hugs every damn day. so talented.
This makes my soul happy. Thanks.
You don't see any other late night show bands who have this much talent, or are even allowed to showcase anything close
totally agree!
The Roots. Jimmy Fallon
American jazz musicians are something else. It's hard to fathom the hours and dedication that every single professional jazz musician has put in. When you add playing with the same group of people and getting good at playing with them you end up sounding consistently extraordinary.
Part of what makes Late Show the best late night show around! It is the most intelligent, thoughtful, heartfelt, and humorous show. Colbert is the greatest. Jimmy Kimmel just goes on the street and asks people when they were last naked. Almost moronic.
Every member of this band is amazingly talented, and Jon Batiste is their glowing center. Even so, my heart belongs to Joe Saylor and always will. It seems cruel that such beauty and talent should merge in one man. Yet it's a miracle. Love you, Joe. Keep being the volcano of talent that you are!
I just clapped in my bedroom for a minute after that piece of heaven.
me too
When the guitarist suddenly starts going all arabic, jesus that was awesome.
Can't help but smile like a fool while watching this, good stuff :)
Best late night band hands down! Love you guys!
Absolutely incredible.
This looks too much fun. They really enjoying themselves
6:19 - 6:36 I knew i wasn't the only one to sense those vibes, man... even the band member reacted
gotta love their humor in their music
This just made me smile when i really wasn't expecting it because i was not in a good mood. You do this everytime to me Jon Batiste! Thank you Jon & Band for being you and just doin' whatcha do! 🙏
Wow! Please put more of their music online. What a joy!
I love these guys. I feel like there's so much potential for integrating them more into the show and highlighting their SICK skills and endearing personalities. Maybe it's just a matter of time until they can seamlessly integrate their background in music to the tune and rhythm of the talk show. Exciting!
Also, sick trombone solo.
Many Thanks!
This is beautiful! Fallon has the Root who are amazing. But this band is stunning. All skill, no jokes.
That was so freaking cool. Please do more of these!
That was too funny, he keeps taking it somewhere really deep, but then when he starts it from the beginning again, it just sounds hilarious. Genius!
Exactly! Never heard any music so funny and beautiful at once.
I have this urge to write this under every Jon Batiste video on this channel. Best Late Night Band currently, by a fucking mile. I don't care what everyone says about the Roots, I think Jon Batiste & Stay Human are fucking superb. Honestly can't think of a better Late Night Band
Fantastic. MOAR! All Wednesday's ever!
He's directing with his head movements & nods
So much talent in one place. What an amazing group of musicians!
John Batiste and the band are just phenomenal 👏 love how playful they are with the music, thankyou for your smile in tough times John
no kidding, wow. incredible musicians!!
Good god! Jon batiste interjections into Colbert monologues are forgiven the dude is a wizard
Joy. Glory. Virtue-osity. Love that final pat on the Grand Piano of which he is the Master.
I keep wishing we could see on RUclips the sets that get played during the commercial breaks. Always way better or at least usually waaaay better than whatever lame musical guest is on. This man is a freaking genius and I want MORE. Thank you!
this whole song is legit.
bad avi
Bra don't hate on the spice
Bruh... You good, I've started playing music for 4 years and I've learned piano violin and bass and learning viola, guitar, and jazz improvisation. I do composing but just watching improv in a live section like this, is just amazing.
wow... just wow. What a wonderful way to start the day.
10:09 wind section plans a rhythm for chords. love it.
Yes, agreed, they are quite good.
Merely a jest, the band is PHENOMENAL and the genius on the piano SUBLIME.
Sent chills down my spine! 👏👏👏
I've never seen anyone rock a key harmonica (or whatever that thing is) before, but Jon slays with that thing.
It's called a melodica. Jon kills it.
BRAVO!! This is far better than "The Roots!"
I absolutely love John and his band. I could listen to them all day and night.
Now that's an original arrangement!! Wow!!!
The first time hearing the Chopin "Minute Waltz" as a Jazz improvisation is a new experience...
wow. Just...wow.
That absolutely rocked
Top notch musicians. Has Jon ever recorded an album?
Yes! He's got like half a dozen or more actually
Yes, you can find them on RUclips
Also in record stores across america. Don't forget about those.
Bravo!
Classical jazz with a trombone solo (halfway through)... YES, PLEASE! Well done, y'all!
man john seems like such a chill dude
awesome. This put a big smile on my face.
Listening to this again today made life livable again (had a stupid fight with my boss yesterday).
I won't pretend to act like I knew about Jon Batiste or this band before they joined the show, but my goodness... best band on TV since Doc Severinsen (look him up, young ones).
Love this!! Thank you.
I had no idea Jon Batiste was super-human. All this time their name was a disguise
wow. crazy talented band!
love the Redshoes&Sax
This is music!!! Thanks guys!
Wait, wait, hear me out: Jon Batiste and Stay Human plus The Roots in one massive multiplayer jam session (a MMPJS, if you want). EPIC. This all by itself is absolutely killer, though.
That drum solo was legit.
This needs to happen moire often! These guys are amazing musicians
Wow this is good. They should do it every week.
Could not skip a second of this video!
oh my. The melodic trombone. Never knew it had that much melodic potential.
Dat Oompah boogie jazzy snazzy sound. What talented folks have passed through this show's band. Hope Jon and all are well on their current ventures.
AWESOMELY AWESOME❗️
Made my ears feel good
Man, I wish I could play the piano like Jon.
Best thing ever on the Colbert channel
wow just wow ! amazing
Dang I wish I could play the piano as well as Jon Batiste! Also the drums and guitar. 😊
I feel so cool right now
Thank you, may we have more please.
So awesome!
That was nothing short of pretty damn fly! Stay Wednesdays, please!
Thank you, Bob; love it!!!I know you are a madman on the piano; I have always wished I had followed my dream to play the keys.....Outstandingly beautiful and surpassingly mesmerizing.....Wow!
Once in a lifetime, I think!!!!!
