I just hate when you go to self-checkout and newly arrived Mexicans come stand in front of me as I scan! I usually only get a few things, not a whole cart full, but they focus on the brotha. The Mexicans are not used to the east coast and blaks, coming from other countries and western states.
I knew a guy who was a big traveling manager of their construction workers, for them and home depot etc... and he said many of the camera balls are hollow.. it depends on the area and section. Its all about numbers.
I confirmed this once when someone stole and arizona green tea gallon out of my cart and asked them to tell me where it went... they couldnt see it on camera.. proving my point
And they still let people steal as long as its not alot often. They could of just walked out and got away with it😂

Older people have always been known to steal. Seinfeld even did an episode on it. Remember Jerry finds out his parents and his Uncle Leo steal all the time from the store. Seinfeld only did an episode because it has always been well known that old people shoplift. Seinfeld even used them stealing batteries, because the saying is old people never pay for batteries, they steal them. That episode was pretty funny. It is the one where George is trying to steal a book because his book is flagged so he cannot return his copy, but catches his uncle stealing, then finds out his parents shoplift all the time.
I am a 70 year old widow, I am still working just now getting my Social Security. And I have five other people to support right now. I would never think about stealing from the store. I don’t care how old you are or how young you are. It’s wrong, and frankly, I’m getting tired of the high prices at the store because we have to cover for the thieves.
So why at 70,supporting 7 people, should be responsible for themselves surely

I’ve had to raise my grandchildren, and I wouldn’t have it any other way you can never walk away from the people you love. Also, I’m putting the older ones through college. There will come a time when they will be on their own and fine, but this story isn’t about me. It’s about thieves.

There’s a story on an old woman who was a black widow most of her adult life. She killed her husbands but was never sent to prison because by the time she was caught she looked and sounded like a sweet grandma.

These 2 are really slick - they grab all the items, she gives them to him and he leaves the store. Then she's at the self checkout, gets an employee to void the items that he's already left with, pays for the 3 items that she's got in her cart, and she looks innocent! Guess these 2 don't realize that there are hundreds of video cameras all over the store - and they've got you both dead to rights! Old girl is playing the victim, but she's just as guilty as he is!!

This happened April 13, 2022. The couple paid $3.98 and the total cost of all the items in the cart was $427.34.
They were trying to leave with clothes, groceries and a power washer, but greed got in the way.

I have seen people who use their infants in strollers to hide items in. In their children’s pockets, backpacks , clothes. They feed their kids at the store by getting food from deli and eating it before getting to checkout and discard the container somewhere in the store. Open food ( mostly snacks) for the kids to eat during shopping. Eat fruit ( sold by pound) and only pays for whatever is left or just discard rest.
Two scam artists should be arrested.

I never stole anything, my parents let me know what would happen to me if I did. I shop at Walmart and actually liked the self checkout, but I do understand why they are shutting them down. I always have my receipt out for the door person, the crooks always make things harder for honest people.
I actually dislike self checkout & wish there were more cashiers at the stores. These 2 are old pros. It’s SO obvious.

I'm 57 and I left Walmart with a case of soda underneath the cart unpaid for. I didn't realize it and Walmart didn't either. I turned my ass around and went to customer service and explained what happened. The manager was grateful and I felt better. I can't believe these two. Nobody should feel bad for them. Revolting behavior.

I did the same at my local grocery store. Immediately went back in and explained to a manager what happened. The look of shock on his face when he asked me, “And you came back to pay for it?” I must have looked confused because he went on to explain most people don’t come back.

These cops have to deal with the worst type of people, and are verbally and physically abused, and then these prosecutors and judges drop the charges or give them a slap on the wrist. When I was 16 I worked as a salesman at a JC Penny and I'm not exaggerating a TINY bit when I say I saw old people pull scammy shit every other day. Many times every day. We had old ppl regulars who would do things like move things to other racks and try to get the price from that rack or change tags and things like that. It really opened my eyes on not discriminating who a criminal can be at a young age(and I needed that since I grew up in small town Maine where it was chill so I didn't meet a lot of criminals and didn't know what to expect). Now I know old ladies can be just as bad as thuggy thugster when it comes to stealing at stores. I bet at Wal Mart it's like what I experienced but on steroids and HGH.
They’re the worst. A lot of them feel like society owes them something I imagine. I see all kinds of shit going down in supermarkets. Like pre-COVID it wasn’t remotely unusual to see some old f*k grazing from the bulk bins. Recently at my local (nice) market I watched this old guy take some bakery items from the case across the store to the day-old half off sales table. He then took one item and told the cashier it was on the sales table in spite of not having a red tag. Bag boy went over and confirmed there was another identical item there. Dude obviously had this down pat, and talking to the cashier they knew it. 🙄

Rich people steal just as much as the poor! Their excuse is they are not paying that much and they take it out of the box or put their old product in the box and wear the new one out the door! I was checking out a large order and the man was bagging and making nice conversation! As he pushed the cart away I saw tags hanging underneath his arm that he had his coat draped over! I called security but he was gone from the parking lot! I was upset but security said since he used his charge they had his name! Our store manager was almost killed when a band of gypsies hit the store! I was not working but he told me all about his nightmare! There were about 50 men and young boys that entered the store at its busiest time! The young boys pulled the registers and ran out to waiting running vans and the adults were stealing cameras, tv's, jewelry and they even stole guns! The store manager got to the last van holding the man's jacket and they stepped on the gas and dragged him for a mile and then put down the window and he was flung in the middle of a busy road! He had a broken arm and ribs and his leg was all messed up! The store management told him that he should never have chased them and he should have been terminated! Years later a fellow employee came into work after a lunch break and told me what happened to him at the store down the street! He said the store was busy with lunch time business and his girlfriend and him could not believe what they saw! He said a large group of men and boys came running into the store carrying large knives! The small kids went up to the 15 registers and cut the electric cords and they were running out with the registers! They threw the smallest boys over the customer service locked doors and came running out with drawers of money! He said they even blew open the safe! He said in about 10 minutes they were gone and everyone was stunned! The store left everyone to take what they were going to buy since they had no registers! The police said they would never find them because they were so good at their game! My friend kept on saying these little kids were so fast and ran with those heavy registers like it was so easy. He was in shock! They never cover the gypsy raids on television! A local 7-11 manager said to me at the register when his phone rang listen to this! The taped recording said "The gypsies are coming! The gypsies are coming!" They were not supposed to have money in the safe! He said our insurance company is also calling with warnings! I told him they'll wipe you clean! He said they were taking registers, cigarettes and floor displays that weren't nailed down!

I’m a senior and totally ashamed of them playing the senior act. They both knew what they were doing and had full intentions of doing so when they entered the store. We are not all like that. I have never stole a thing in my life and never will. Shame on them!!
I had a friend who’s an overnight nurse and was running three community care homes solo (people with developmental disabilities) when the company was short staffed.
Anyway it was a Tuesday morning at like 7am and she had just finished a 8 day stretch working 12hrs days and decided to stop at the Walmart super center on her way home because she had like no groceries in the house. So anyway she goes in and buys about 400 bucks worth of groceries and then goes to checkout (actual cashier) pays and leaves.
They wait until she crosses the doors and gets stopped and screamed at for shoplifting, a 2.99 case of water on the bottom of the cart….
She says she didn’t even realize and try’s to turn around to go back and pay. NOPE Walmart refused to let her then calls the cops and has her charged and trespassed….
The LP guy for Walmart literally told the cop he wanted her arrested and all this other shit but thankfully the cop didn’t feel the same and she was cited and released.
Went to court where thankfully the judge tossed out the case but she was banned from Walmart (not that she has any desire to ever return)
Worst part is the cashier and LP both admitted they knew/saw the water was there but neither one said anything until after she left.
I mean who in the hell is going to drop 400bucks then try and steal 2,99 worth of water…
The best thing that can happen is walmart goes bankrupt and all the mom and pop owned local stores open back up again like it used to be. I boycotted walmart years ago for their lying about their return policy timeframe. They are crooked scammers.

You can't self checkout that much. Our store just got reduced from 20 to 15 items. They will make you go to a cashier. And cashiers check the bottom of the cart every time.
Get rid of self checkouts. The theft has got to be costing them more than just hiring some more cashiers.

Walmart likes to rant and rave about how much theft they deal with, but in actuality they are very careful about not letting big ticket items (tv's, electronics, tools, etc) get out the door without being caught. The small items that are easily shoplifted are generally priced at a HUGE markup anyhow (think shampoo that Walmart pays .50 for but charges $8 to customers) so even if 10 people shoplifted the item, the one person who pays for it more than makes up for the losses. Walmart loves to place blame on consumers and shoplifting, etc for their skyrocketing prices and lack of cashiers, but in reality it's their corporate greed that drives prices up and why they refuse to hire more workers.
The problem is not the cost of the cashiers it's finding the cashiers to do the work the self-checkout was expected to alleviate that but turned into a bigger problem with theft

Removing self checkout isn’t the problem, it’s the ppl that go to them to steal. U would be able to take more stuff going to an actual person. It would be the small things they would be able to get away with taking while standing in line.
These self-checkouts seem to cause more problems than they are worth. Doing away with them would GREATLY reduce their shoplifting problems. It's not rocket science.

@lorimiller4301 I've had it for 10 years. My best advice is to eat well and do cardio. Fibro gets worse as you get older and new symptoms start to emerge. Your body needs all the help to handle/cope with the weakness and pain, give it that help with proper nutrition and cardio.

I knew a guy who would load up a scooter act like he was handicap and go through the self check out line stand there with a receipt from a different day then just roll out of the store then on top of that he would ask a store employee to help him put it in the car that was ballsy! Our local Walmart has stopped self-checking now. It's better this way in order to keep the loss down or else the honest consumers will feel the pinch.

People wonder why prices go up, this is why. As someone who has worked retail for over 30 years in grocery stores quickly learned about the price increase. The 2 main reasons stores will raise their prices due to SHRINK:
-Theft… theft is #1. Ive witnessed people getting caught steeling then begging to loss preventions and the police that they will pay for it to avoid jail time. Um sorry, you should have thought about that before passing the threshold of the store with the shit you decided just to take.
- Customer’s leaving perishable foods out on shelves such as meats, dairy products, frozen goods, other refrigerated products and produce. Nothing like finding melted ice cream in apparel or chicken in the toy aisle. Not only is it disgusting, but now items that came in contact of rotting meat and melted ice cream have to be thrown out. That shit got on my nerves and it was sad to see how much a night was thrown out. Next time you are shopping in the early morning ask an employee to show you the damages collected by the night crew. You would be surprised.
Please report theft if you see it happening and please, please do not leave perishable foods around the store. Give it to the cashier at check out if you do not want it, the runners or baggers will put it back. Meats are generally taken to the meat department to get a temp check to see that it is still at a safe temperature to sell.
When I worked at Macys (early 2000s). Our biggest shoplifter was in her late 70s.

For those of you wondering why he stole when he has the cash: Because he steals the stuff and then returns it. Some places are still dumb enough to give cash refunds without a receipt. So fraud refunds are still prevalent with thieves.
Stealing can become an addiction for people, just like gambling or drug use. It doesn't matter if there's money to pay for it or not, there's a compulsion to steal.

Walmart doesnt give cash w/o a receipt and if you paid with a debit or cc originally it will go back on yr card if you paid cash WITH a receipt you get cash. Otherwise its a gift card no receipt of course thats if you didn't steal.

I was in a Walmart and was waiting in line to use the self checkout and saw (2) Walmart employees standing at each self checkout. I ask one of the employees - why so many Walmart employees - it was a lot of noise going on - and if I heard her correctly - she told me that Walmart is losing $1million a day in theft. She also stated that they are looking into possibly laying off employees or closing. One thing I can say - I don't hear anything about theft in Costco.
