Hello sir, I just love the Bark River, as the Busse is way out of my price range. I have been a subscriber for some time and recently turned some friends on to your channel and we sat and watched a whole lot of your videos. You have obviously invested a fair amount into your knives and gear. Your sharpening videos are fantastic. I want to thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, thoughts and experiences with us. I am on a disability income so I have little chance of owning these higher priced blades. Your videos are a blessing and are a great resource. Thanks my friend.
BUSSE CABS knife has a convex secondary edge. Its edge angle is fairly large. I guess it was made not to take chipping easily in a hard use. I still keep its angle. If I need, I can shallow it any time. It's not a practical knife for now but one of my treasure knives.
Very interesting your unbiased opinion from most expensive to reasonable for the consumer thank you for putting your money to work and not letting the cost cloud your views.
Interesting to hear your thoughts on these steels. I think INFI's greatest benefits are under extreme duress. It may not hold a fine edge as long at A2, O1, or D2, but if you were to hammer it through a large pile of concrete or attempt to dismantel a house and/or car with it, i think it would rain supreme:) For realistic use, and skinning purposes, I think you are right about Bark River's steel.
You have the best critique of knives that I've seen yet on youtube. Its difficult to be negative at all after spending that much on a blade, especially one as revered as Busse. It is obvious you are a true knife user and are knowledgable of different steel types. There are many out there who love A2. I just bought a Tops and like Busse it has a large edge angle and wish it to be narrower.
Joomington can speak for many of your followers. Your fairness and reasoning are commendable. If I had any concern about losing a knife, I would take the Buck. Yes, Bark River would dress my deer! Wonderful vid, Doc!
I agree with you. Chipping is a nightmare. I still keep its deep angle and it is the dullest knife in my hunting knives. But its deep convex bevel slides on the chest bones beautifully during getting back straps although it gets uselessly dull soon. I just need to strop it after every single use. Thanks.
good explanation on each knife. good demonstration on their bite angles too. what is your cheapest and most expensive folders that you use. can you make a vid of those too.
3V holds the longest in carbon steels. But it is a bit chippy. S30V holds the longest in stainless steels. Fallkniven 3G can hold a bit longer though. I have no experiences on S90V or S35VN. Bark River say their S35VN holds fairly longer than S30V. Thanks.
@synRdave Busse is precious because it is pricey and it sells in a limited period. And because some destructive test said it was very tough against the abnormal abuse. For its edge it has a deep angle and relatively dull. For its INFI steel it doesn't keep long. I still keep it just for it is cool. I don't depend on it in the hunting field at all. I am happy that I've found a person who has the same experience and opinion as mine. Thank you!
HI, Wako! My opinion is that a good hunting knife, whitch is dependable (if there is a need you can field dress and take a meat form 1 or 2 game animal min. 100kg without sharpening) is not a cheap knife - For hunting i prefer scandi-convex grind hand forged diferential heat threathetd knives-they are prety good for wild hog/bore field dressing /skinning and meat teaking - aredependable knives and price is form 50 do 250$ - do the job equal, but the spirit, the beauty of the knife is different.
Mr.Virtuovice, your taste run's parallel to my taste, believe it or not I have the same knives you have, and I just got a Busse Sarge 7 this week, I really enjoy watching your videos.
Thank you very much . If you can please do a full review on your fallkniven and enzo knives . Please . And by the way your videos are always great and helpful to me
Same issues here with INFI steel, I tried and tried to give it credit, even cheered it on because of the cost of it, but in the end I had to accept the fact than INFI is kinda pathetic, no serious edge holding at all..I love the Busse looks and feel, but that's as far as I can go with it. Another good video, look forward to more.
i agree with understanding his english but saying english is hard to learn is not true at all. in fact english is one of the easiest languages to learn lets take icelandic, german ,swiss german or french those are all 10 times harder than english
English is easy to learn the basics of but it's very obvious when someone has it as a second language simply because English is very difficult to get native level proficiency
English is easy to learn, but he is japanese, so there isn't the same sounds in his language. It's like me, I'm from Brazil, we speak portuguese (from Brazil) and some words are very hard to say, cause we don't have the same sounds in our language. Words like "world" and "girl", that "rl" sound, It is very difficult for us.
What steel in your opinion holds the best edge the longest. Busse knife is very beautiful. Love the sheath.maybe that where $250 of 300 went to. Thanks for the review.
Thought I would tell you my view of the new Bark River handy hunter. It is very much like the Blackjack 125. The blade is a little thicker and not as wide. The big difference is the handle. The handy hunter is bigger and contoured. I like it a lot but is not significantly different Than the Blackjack in my opinion. I thought I would tell you since you love Bark River knives too.
I think you might like SR 101 steel from Swamp Rat Knives. They are made by Busse, a sister company. The steel is very tough and holds a great edge. They have a Rodent 4 offering right now. As usual, the Bussekin edge bevels are pretty thick so you may have to thin the shoulder down buy I think SR-101 will give A2 a run for its money. Check it out.
Nice video! I dislike Busse now myself, and my main issue with that Bark River is the butt of the handle. Otherwise, I feel that the Buck has the nicest shape for your needs and it's ergonomics appeals to me over the other two.
Hiya Doc, I have several Busse Combat Knives, they are my fav's, for what I do in the bush they preform excellently, my newest acquisition is the Nuclear Meltdown Fussion Steel Heart because sometimes my Anneversary Straight Handle Battle Mistress LE is slightly too long, but anyhow one of my fav camp/survival knives is my Sarge 7 for a knife this size it's extremely fluid and lite, my fav bushcraft knife is my Son of Badger just the most perfect size for the kind of work I do in the bush, then I got extremely lucky because they didn't make too many of these and that's my ALL TIME FAVORITE camp knife it's the Ratmandu in the INFI Steel the Ratmandu IMO is a perfect knife for the bush. The Ratmandu started it all for me when I bought my first Swamp Rat, until then my Bravo 1 was my go to knife, the size of the Ratmandu has many advantages over the Bravo 1 but is similar to my Bravo 1.5, but the INFI Steel has a slight advantage even over the 3V in all enviorments, and the fact the Ratmandu has a choil which to me it helps alot (for what I do in the bush), even though my S.O.B was more expensive my INFI Ratmandu hold's a special spot in my heart as my fav.
Really like the Bark River and even the cheap Buck looks good. Curious, do you have any high end folders like Sebenzas? Would like to see you make a video on your cheapest and most expensive folders as well, thanks.
@tigerlam92 Busse CABS factory made convex edge angle is clearly deeper than my self made convex edge angle. I can reprofile it any time. But it is a too expensive knife to change something on it very easily. So I am thinking it will reach my intended edge angle some day through much black compound stropping after each use, not by forced sandpaper or waterstone reprofiling. Its current sharpness is acceptable enough in deer dressing. Thank you!
Bohler K294 holds the edge the longest. Then CPM 10V but these 2 are not "stainless". The best stainless is CPMS125V, then S110V, S90V, ... Spyderco Southfork (S90V) is much better than all the Busse knives together. Other steels much better than INFI are ELMAX, VANAX 35 and 75, Boher M390, VANADIS 4 EXTRA, VANADIS 23, Bohler K390 and many others.
Constant supply of limited productions keeps a fanbase since the knives will hold their value. I'm surprised INFI didn't hold up to hunting tasks though.
i was so excited when i got my busse knife but when it came it wasnt very sharp and it didnt come with a sheath i was confused why a knife that cost so much money would be dull and no sheath so a went ahead a sharpened it myself and when i went to skin a deer i had to stop halfway through to touch up the blade and when i was deboneing the edge rolled so i compleatly understand what you were saying about your busse knife thanks for the videos
Busse does that to keep there prices up and each one is hand made and if u want a Similar knife you can always go to the custom shop and have them make you what ever one you want
Please check videos from noss4. He tests knives untill they are broken. INFI steel blades do the best in the tests and is very, very hard to break or snap them.
@rudytx71 I left my Peacemaker long ago. And the single knife will be Forrester7 from Kyley aka knivesandstuff on RUclips. His web is "Sell Your Knife". I have the one on order. His chopping video with it is awesome!! Thanks.
Mark Sage He sold me too so I bought the large and small, gave the large to my brother kept the small but now I want a large in orange. I used my wicked edge and put a nice edge on it and it is incredibly sharp.I had one knife in 420 by buck that stayed as sharp as S30v in fact, I never did get it to dull and someone stole it later. I was amazed because I almost refused to buy a knife in 420hc because I hated 440c and thought it was a bad steel. Then I learned heat treat is what plays a massive part. I have a knife in 1080 I made and left it way harder than a 1080 should be and it was outperforming my Esse knives in 1095 however, esse is intentionally low RC for strength and my knife would snap under hard use. I recently took a torch to the spine to anneal it some and figured heat soak would soften the edge some. I feel it did but, it's still more 58-59RC Steels start to get really complicated with carbides and chromium or knifes with more carbon and tungsten for example, S110v vs M4 two great steels, two different ways of going about it. And I don't know who I went down this road I apologize haha. Take care, hope you bought your buck and enjoyed it.
Thanks for all your informative video! I watched many of your videos and you have many times mentioned that the Busse CABS factory edge, although very sharp, feels a little rough or gives a resistant feedback during paper sharp test so not buttery smooth. Is there a reason you have not resharpen or re-profile it? Is it too thin or you just wish to keep it as is and not change it.
Stick with bark river knives for the money their better easier to sharpen the convex edge and the fallkniven idun has that secondary edge that Sucks unless you know how to take it off.... once you do take it off then it's amazing.
My buddy hacked into the Busse mainframe and got access to the recipe for super secret INFI steel. He was expecting to see a complicated formula of carbon, nickel, chromium, vanadium and other elements precisely combined to create the perfect super steel but the only thing in INFI file was the phrases "8CR13MOV" and "Let's Drink". I been watching your videos and bought many knifes due to your expert opinion thank you sir .. I wanted to ask you do you know or heard of the name Ben Orford uk knife maker ,, the Woodlander classic ,,, why don't you have any of his knifes ?? He has some of the best knifes his wife does all leather works ,, please review one of Ben Orfords knifes
Say Heah, I got pretty lucky. I got one of my all time Fav. Bush Craft/Camp Belt Knife. It's my INFIMandu, Infact I bought (2). I I use with my Battle Mistress and the other one with my Meltdown Fussiin Steel Heart. Both conbos are a lovely piece of kits. If I wasn't I could neck carry or add my Mean Street LE to rather., But as a whole, My INFI Ratmandu is one of my Fav's, But to have (2) is Luck.,,.
dear sir . how are you doing. I live your video's. They are great to watch. by way sir how many knives of all kind you have and choice one among all. Thanks
+Mohammed Zeib khan shinwari I have about 50 knives. I take Fox River for hunting and Bravo1 in woods. These two are by far better than the others for each purpose. Thanks.
dear sir, I am an out door person too. But you are genius by far. I think you are mistaken, I have been watching your video's and you have million dollars knives and other accessories. lol. how are the gun laws in Japan?
My cheapest knife is this really shitty frost cutlery folder that I got for a dollar when I was 9 and my most expensive is a para 2 sprint run in s35vn steel street price $200
My cheapest knives are Victorinox sd on my wallet zipper, opinel gardening knife, and a few Moras. Most expensive are Grohmann Canadian Belt knife, and an antique authentic kukri I use for batoning sticks. I am on a budget!
I left Idun because its leather handle was thin and slick. I left CABS because its secondary convex edge was dull and a guy needed it for good money. Thanks.
Just paid 360 dollars for a custom made puukko in m390 it's dull barely slices paper and no matter how long I try I can't improve the edge on my king stones, expensive regret!!
You mean that Buck is your least expensive knife, not cheapest knife, I have all of those knives and tell you that the Buck is impossible to beat in its price range.
Anorexic comes from the Greek word (Ανορεξικός) You got it right.Anorexic is a someone who does not feel the appetite to eat. So, we say someone has become skinny, because he is anorexic.

The knife has no appetite, that is why it won't bite.
good explanation on each knife. good demonstration on their bite angles too. what is your cheapest and most expensive folders that you use. can you make a vid of those too.
man love your knives, hunting, cooking game meat vids you know your stuff. one of the best channel on youtube. you go WAKO U ARE A GURU

Thank you for your knowledge and wisdom. Enjoy your videos. Especially the ones with the firebox. Thank you. Cheers. Newfoundland, Canada
Hahah! , knife has no apetite. That is gold. Love your work Wako

I don't like the sales ploy too. More or less many knife companies do it. But Busse seems like doing it over the permissible line. Thanks.
I like your knives and your video. The custom sheath is beautiful.
Mr.Virtuovice, your taste run's parallel to my taste, believe it or not I have the same knives you have, and I just got a Busse Sarge 7 this week, I really enjoy watching your videos.
Great video! I enjoy your thoughts on the knives.
@Hungerth It's Fox River which is a genuine hunting knife. Thanks.
Thank you very much . If you can please do a full review on your fallkniven and enzo knives . Please . And by the way your videos are always great and helpful to me
You know what I like about you is the you know your stuff and you respond to any stupid comment keep up the good work
Nice blades, the Buck seems like outstanding value, and the Bark River is a very beautiful and functional piece. Just don't know about Busse....
Same issues here with INFI steel, I tried and tried to give it credit, even cheered it on because of the cost of it, but in the end I had to accept the fact than INFI is kinda pathetic, no serious edge holding at all..I love the Busse looks and feel, but that's as far as I can go with it.

You have an awesome collection of knives! Always look forward to your vids.
Why are people complaining about his English, I could understand him clearly and English is the hardest language to learn
i agree with understanding his english but saying english is hard to learn is not true at all. in fact english is one of the easiest languages to learn lets take icelandic, german ,swiss german or french those are all 10 times harder than english
You are confusing hard to learn with hard to pronounce.
pretty sure you have to learn to pronounce a word so...
English is easy to learn the basics of but it's very obvious when someone has it as a second language simply because English is very difficult to get native level proficiency

I feel like 420hc if extremely underrated. Especially when heat-treated with the "secret" way that Buck knows how to do.

The Busse is a beautiful blade. Not a fan of its sheath although it is well crafted. I prefer scout carry. Great vid!

that Busse is one beautiful knife
@MarcoMontana22 Bravo1 because of its stoutness. Fox River and BlackJack125 because of their usefulness in field deer dressing. Thanks.
Great video! You gotta get some Snow seal or or other leather oil on the bark River sheath!
Bohler K294 holds the edge the longest. Then CPM 10V but these 2 are not "stainless". The best stainless is CPMS125V, then S110V, S90V, ... 😂🤦♂️
INFI lend itself to shine in toughness rather than absolute razor edge retention.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on these three knives! I agree with you on Busse's elitist attitude.
Barkriver knives are nice I've found that the TRC Apocalypse Elmax knife is better made. I absolutely love mine. You should check it out.
Constant supply of limited productions keeps a fanbase since the knives will hold their value. I'm surprised INFI didn't hold up to hunting tasks though.

Please check videos from noss4. He tests knives untill they are broken.
INFI steel blades do the best in the tests and is very, very hard to break or snap them.
Please do another video on fehrman peacemaker. And if you could only have one knife what knife would that be?
im glad you got my tag! great video!
Hey good stuff bro. I subbed. Keep it up. Nice blades too by the way!!!
Great video. Where can I buy an orange knife?
What is funny is that they charge more for polished knives with no coating
Because the surface of the steel looks like the moon
I just got my 3rd INFIMANDU and I also got a Green American Flag Cerakote ASH-1 with the magnum handle, Yeah, they are very good knives. , ,
Nice knives comrade.
Ever thought about Trying TRC knives. They look interesting.
@nephildevil I have a HD camera, but my internet connection is very slow and I cannot upload a HD movie onto RUclips. Thanks.
Good taste as usual
any idea when u get a HD camera, maybe?
the cheapest one looks kinda good
NICE REVIEW ! PLEASE KEEP IT UP !
Nice
@rudytx71 I left my Peacemaker long ago. And the single knife will be Forrester7 from Kyley aka knivesandstuff on RUclips. His web is "Sell Your Knife". I have the one on order. His chopping video with it is awesome!! Thanks.
Great vid, thanks!
Sir, thank you.
thank you!
Your English is great don't pay attention to the complainers
Whats the name of the guy who makes the sheath?
I'm sold on the Buck.
Were did u get all your knives
Stick with bark river knives for the money their better easier to sharpen the convex edge and the fallkniven idun has that secondary edge that Sucks unless you know how to take it off.... once you do take it off then it's amazing.
My buddy hacked into the Busse mainframe and got access to the recipe for super secret INFI steel. He was expecting to see a complicated formula of carbon, nickel, chromium, vanadium and other elements precisely combined to create the perfect super steel but the only thing in INFI file was the phrases "8CR13MOV" and "Let's Drink". WTF??????
Is this true. I really hope it is because one of my buddies owns a Busse and says that INFI steel isn't any better than 1095.
How do you like the busse as a hunting knife?
Say Heah, I got pretty lucky. I got one of my all time Fav. Bush Craft/Camp Belt Knife. It's my INFIMandu, Infact I bought (2). I I use with my Battle Mistress and the other one with my Meltdown Fussiin Steel Heart. Both conbos are a lovely piece of kits. If I wasn't I could neck carry or add my Mean Street LE to rather., But as a whole, My INFI Ratmandu is one of my Fav's, But to have (2) is Luck.,,.
paulie 4x See I do see you everywhere!
dear sir . how are you doing.
I think you are mistaken, I have been watching your video's and you have million dollars knives and other accessories. lol.
how are the gun laws in Japan?
curious, Mora companion costs about $11.00...you have shown it on your videos, cheaper than the Buck? I appreciate your videos.
My cheapest knife is this really shitty frost cutlery folder that I got for a dollar when I was 9 and my most expensive is a para 2 sprint run in s35vn steel street price $200
what is the model number of your Buck hunter?
Bucklite Max Large.
My cheapest knives are Victorinox sd on my wallet zipper, opinel gardening knife, and a few Moras. Most expensive are Grohmann Canadian Belt knife, and an antique authentic kukri I use for batoning sticks. I am on a budget!
for me BRK have good edge geometry but shot handels ;-(
What model bark river is that
Jax C That is A2 Fox River in an old style short handle which allows us full pinching of the blade.
Do you like your fallkniven idun better then the busse knife ?? Because I have the fallkniven idun. And I love it . So let me know
I left Idun because its leather handle was thin and slick. I left CABS because its secondary convex edge was dull and a guy needed it for good money. Thanks.
Hello sir ! Could you tell me what is your favourite knife for skinning and extracting meat ?
I can give you two names, Cabela's Buck Vanguard S30V and Bark River Fox River for field deer dressing. Thanks.
Which Bark River knife is this?
The knife is the old original Fox River with short scales.
I love you man you are cool. Pistol Packin preacher Tennessee
Just paid 360 dollars for a custom made puukko in m390 it's dull barely slices paper and no matter how long I try I can't improve the edge on my king stones, expensive regret!!
Randal Flagg did you figure out how to get m390 sharp? Might have to go to a rough/superfine diamond.
I find chipping intolerable. I don't care how nice the knife. I'll take a knife that dulls fairly easily yet hones back with ease.
IT'S THE BATTLE MISTRESS. I WANT IT BUT I KNOW A BECKER 9 IS JUST AS GOOD.790 BUCKS
You mean that Buck is your least expensive knife, not cheapest knife, I have all of those knives and tell you that the Buck is impossible to beat in its price range.
