  • Where it was Made: Back to the Future
    Welcome to another episode of our web-series, Where It Was Made, in which we revisit the actual filming locations for some of the most popular films ever made and see how they're holding up today, all while examining just how these locations were used in the finished film. Our newest episode goes back in time to revisit the sets and locales of Robert Zemeckis' 1985 classic, BACK TO THE FUTURE. Host Ryan Cultera hops in a real-life DeLoreon and hits the road, taking in some of the most memorable locations from the film, including Hill Valley high, the clocktower, Twin (Lone) Pine Mall, and so much more! Ryan is also joined by screenwriter Bob Gale for an interview, who offers even more insight into the making of the film! So hop in and take a ride BACK TO THE FUTURE!
    The film stars Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd as Marty McFly and Doc Brown.

      I used to rent the video from a little Mom and Pop video store over and over. Back then, of course, you couldn't just buy a video of a movie you loved. Whoever thought of that idea was a flipping genius.
      I rented the video so much that when it was time to feature a new movie in their store, they offered me a beautiful Back to the Future silkscreen version of the movie poster. I was so so excited. = )

    As a young kid, in the 80s I worked at Universal in security and drove a security car and had keys to almost everything on the backlot. I was constantly hanging out and walking the sets where the Clock Tower stands. I do miss the old original Clock Tower. Take a look at it. It's definitely not the same. I used to go across the street a lot to the shops where the Café 80s was. Those shops were some of the few that actually looked like a real shop when you walked in, but there was a big open warehouse in the center that connected them all. They used to store props in the center. I even slept in Janet Leigh's room in the Bates Motel once! Good times!!

I was born the year before the movie came out, and used to pass by that house's main street all the time. Despite being a huge fan of that movie growing up, i never knew the house was there until few months ago! but i had already moved! ironically, i moved in 2015! lol wtf.

    Minor corrections:
    1. The 1955 houses are in *South Pasadena, not Pasadena. These are two separate municipalities.
    2. Arleta is pronounced Are LEE ta, not Are LET uh.
    3. The Puente Hills Mall is located in City of Industry, CA, at the foot of the Puente Hills. There is no Puente, CA, but there is a La Puente, CA that is just to the north of City of Industry.

I was born the year before the movie came out, and used to pass by that house's main street all the time. Despite being a huge fan of that movie growing up, i never knew the house was there until few months ago! but i had already moved! ironically, i moved in 2015! lol wtf.

    Mr. Zemeckis oh Mr. Zemeckis, I guess your hopes of BTTF only making it's money back came to fruition!!!! I bet that Bob ( and Bob Gale ) are looking at this today and saying. "WE SCORED A MEGA HOME RUN" with this trilogy. His Career would have been DONE if this movie would have flopped. But, he definitely didn't miss his shot on this one. And THANK YOU both ( Bob and Bob ) to have made it sure that this franchise is OFF LIMITS. A BTTF 4 or some other TV series ( as they did with the Terminator) would RUIN this trilogy. It's now A PIECE OF REAL ESTATE and you leave it alone.

    While this obviously gives me warm nostalgic feelings, I feel the whole thing is becoming a little annoying and absurd, and quite revealing about today's moviemaking creative crisis. Don't get me wrong, this and other fanmade videos are genuinely well made and interesting; but in 1985 nobody was obsessing over every little detail of, let's say, Rebel Without a Cause (1955)... because the audience had Back to the Future in cinemas. We're desperately clinging to the past because there's no present. There are many reasons why Hollywood has become creatively bankrupt, why real craftmaship has become less and less important (so nobody can light a scene well or build a good set anymore, 'cause the masters checked out and people thinks digital color correction and blue screens can fix anything), why nobody can write a truly original script like Bob Gale and Zemeckis and find a producer... but you get the picture. I was a kid in the eighties, movies like this one are part of my life, but I wish we could move on and find the next Back to the Future. If things won't change, we'll never get it.

    • @John6-40
      @John6-40 5 лет назад +9

      I'm around your age (also a kid in the 80's) and I agree wholeheartedly. Hollywood either has a talent deficiency or they've given up on creativity altogether. Just look at all the remakes and superhero movies. That's literally almost all that comes out anymore. I think they just realized that this younger generation will buy anything...even recycled garbage. So why bother with quality? I've noticed the same thing in the gaming industry. Fanboys will defend anything that comes to their favorite console, regardless of quality. The Switch is selling like hotcakes, even though the game selection is mostly (a) ports of games from older consoles and (b) games designed in a cheap 8 bit (or 16 bit) style. Also, the gaming industry on the whole just pumps out the same franchises (Madden, Mario, Zelda, Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, etc) over and over again.
      Innovation is gone, and it's probably all due to greed. The only way to change that is to vote with your wallet. Don't buy rehashed poor quality movies and games.

Why Music and movies and anything else creative seems not as good today! They have researched and came out with a money making System and cookie cut everything out! Yes great movies came out of the 80’s but there is also a whole lot of crap movies too that are forgotten! Thank God for that!
