De Minaur is kinda annoying but Djokovic winning would just be dire. No justice in this world that a player as boring to watch as him gets more GS than someone like Federer.
WOW! I'm not sure what the run time for the match - 1hr30min? The speed, the pace, the weight & accuracy of Novak's ground strokes were impecable & awesome - WOW! Novak said afterwards that this was his best match of the year to date. The serve was working well for Djoker. About the only thing that was not top shelf was maybe the drop shots. He just picked his spots and went for it from the get-go more or less after 2-2 in the 1st. Thanx Gill. Best, Milan
De Minaur is 0-8 vs Tsitsipas, 1-6 vs Zverev, 1-3 vs Nadal, 1-4 vs Medvedev, 0-4 vs Thiem, and 0-1 against Djokovic, Federer & Alcaraz. That's 3-28 against the players who have generally been the best in the sport whilst he has been playing, he just lacks the weapons against the top dogs.
I do too. Plus the psychology of rune having beaten him recently. I still feel Rublev doesn't have enough variety in his game. If either his forehand or his serve isn't absolutely perfect he won't have a chance. I notice he also totally dismissed (as Novak did about Rafa too) that the injury he speaks of, would stop him.
Spot on. Novak was insane tonight, but yeah, we know the limitations of De Minaur. He can't hurt Novak with any shot, won't be the case vs. Rublev who is going to make Novak hit shots from uncomfortable position all the time. Really curious how hamstring holds up to this challenge.
Djokovic has already handily defeated Rublev TWICE. Both of which were on HC. The one time Rublev beat him was on clay last year when Djokovic was still recovering mentally and emotionally from the saga in Oz.
De Minaur needs a fast court to bump up the effectiveness of his groundstrokes. On this slow court, he was a sitting duck with no weapons. Djokovic was hitting huge forehands. Seemed totally fine physically and is well set for #22 now!
I didn't catch this match but did see the highlights of Rune Vs Rublev. A very entertaining super breaker. Rune's backhand DTL was pretty amazing, and a sorry way to end the match with the netcord. For me, Rune looked like he was spraying his forehand too much, and lost some points at net that he needn't have.
Went a lot easier than I expected. Rublev should pose a bigger threat if he doesn't crumble mentally, and of course Djokovic leg stays in good shape. Don't really know much about the other two Americans, but then it should be a clear path to the final.
Novak will win the Australian, French and Wimbledon titles this year. He is without any doubt the best out of the big three. Fed won 10 titles during during the weakest era of tennis in the last 50 years, he is 10 year junior to the next best : Sampras and 5 years older than nadal: the next best after him in time. Means , he never had to dethrown anybody (Sampras), he was lucky to be born and grow up in a weak era of tennis. Once Novak and Nadal grew up , Fed had a hard time winning, even though Fed was in a competitive age. He won three titles in 2017 and so when Novak was severely injured and underwent surgery. Hence, he wins when Novak or nadal are injured . Anyway, Novak will win 25+ GS titles in the next soon future. If he is allowed to play at the US, he might pull off the 4 GS titles. For one reason: I don’t see anybody out there who can truly beat him (except for Nadal at the French). However, Nadal has been mentally wrong recently. Fatherhood and Roger’s retirement damaged his mindset
He wanted revenge. He doesn't like deminaur's comments about him last year so he went for blood like he did against roddick in usopen before. He literally said "because i wanted to" when asked why he thrashed him this harshly.
Overpowered seems right. Didn't look like De Minaur could hurt Djokovic. That is interesting. That Djokovic had to be pushed to taking meds to play pain free. My only concern is the damage that he could sustain to the hamstring. Luckily, his opponent this round couldn't really bruise him.
Novak way too good. When he plays like this he just looks like the GOAT. Tough to think how one goes about beating him. Maybe Novak's biggest strength is that he an go down the line or cross court off both wings seemingly at will unless the ball coming at him is of the very highest quality. Alex's shots were just landing centrally without a ton of pace or depth and then Novak can just pick his shot with Alex trying to guess whats coming at him next.
Growing up in Florida, I enjoyed watching UF, FSU, and UM shutout a fellow SEC or ACC team 49-0 or something. Similarly I enjoy watching Novak Djokovic win in straight sets, allowing his opponent fewer than 6 games across 3 sets. That is, collect all of Alex DeMinaur’s games and he still doesn’t win a set.
Gill, hello from Bogota, Colombia (S.America). Sorry for my English. Question : Novak backhand is well known as the best in the tour. His forehand on the other side, sometimes is not that good and it's one of his few "weak" sides when oppponents attack him there. With this injury in the AO, he's avoiding to hit with his backand, hitting more with his forehand, hence improving it quite well !!! Now, independent of the AO outcome, don't you think that now that he improved that much his forehand, Novak will be even better and even a more complete player?
I don't think anyone has called it weak or attackable. Forehand is normally the stronger and more aggressive wing, and compared to his backhand Novak's forehand is not THAT MUCH more powerful, like it is for Nadal and Roger. That's intentional, because prime Novak can defend effectively and hit winners with the backhand so he doesn't need to cover it with a more powerful forehand and can play safe and measured aggressive tennis off both wings. Now, since he doesn't want to move as much (due to hamstring and his age), he's putting some pace on the forehand and hitting it flatter and more aggressively. He could have done this in his younger days, but it's a tactical risk he didn't need to take when he was faster and defended better than the entire tour.
Didn't bother watching this match, went to sleep knowing that when I woke up it would be Nole in straight sets, even if he's injured b/c DeMinaur's just not in the same league. These matches are just practice now until he gets to the final. I'm rooting for Tsitsipas v. Djokovic final... and I think Nole might be a little worried about Stef right now b/c he made a comment "forgetting" the 2021 RG final - mental gamesmanship perhaps. LOL
I’ve been saying for a while I feel de Minaur is one of the more overrated players on tour. First I remember hearing of him was in 2019 when he was a popular pick to challenge/upset Nadal. Well I saw that match, which was pretty similar to this one, and came away from it very unimpressed. He hits the least heavy ball of the top 30. Watching him try to finish points feels like watching someone dig a hole with a spoon. Sure he’s very fast, but finishing points in modern professional tennis is so much more important. Still an amazing performance from Djokovic that I didn’t see coming. I felt like this match could be a little taxing for his hamstring if he lets De Minaur extend the rallies too much, but as it turned out Djokovic was never on the back foot and didn’t have to worry at all. Rublev is another favorable matchup for Djokovic, but he’s in good form and will put Djokovic on the defensive. Still I don’t foresee any issues for Djokovic. Rublev’s second serve is very weak and attackable for Djokovic, and mentally he can unravel very easily, which won’t be good when Djokovic keeps landing returns at his feet. I think Djokovic wins that in straights, but again watch the hamstring. Rublev will put Djokovic on the defensive and doesn’t miss often from attacking positions often, so he could wear him down.
This is how he played in Olymbics.. like unbetable when he played Kai.. Then lost multiple matches in a row. The truth is De Minaur does not match up well with Novak, just like Kai.
I guess Novak's injury was just a minor nuisance just as I thought. It was so weird to me seeing him "struggle" and then proceeded to destroy his opponents in previous rounds. And then this happens. Never knew injuries could get better the more you play. Funny how that works. lol Aside of that, Djokovic played flawless and De Mineaur lacks the power or the variety to do damage.
Same story as AO 2021. Said that he could have actually retired because he might have torn a muscle, proceeded to win the title. Dude is good enough to win without the silly drama.

Demon reminded me of David Ferrer in that match. Fast yes but you can’t beat Novak without a “big gun” in your arsenal. Just completely overpowered.
Thanx Gill. Best, Milan

Tennis GOD Novak Djokovic!
I feel like Rune would have given Djokovic more issues than Rublev...
you are right, Rublev might not be able to win more than 1 set against Novak.
Yes. Rune would make him play one tiebreak for sure 🤣🤣
Love this man Novak congratulations well done teaching this man a lesson this match was amazing 😻 thank you Gill 👏👏👏❤️🇬🇧
Goatkovic demonlish the demon 😂
Whos laughing now De Minaur 😅😅
Awesome performance Djokovic...
...🤞 he keeps going at that level. Great to watch!
What did this De Minaur say about Novak last year? Can anyone tell that?
He told Novak to get out of Australia and stay away then laughed about him being detained.
Source?
@@goldwolf5160 well I guess he learned a valuable lesson - "Talk sh!t, get hit!" And in front of his home crowd too😂🤣😂!!
Disgusting! I bet Novak got a great deal of satisfaction thrashing De Minaur.@@goldwolf5160
karma is a bitch
It looked like Novak was training Alex.
@@drtash21 I know, I know. But it's still going to be the biggest challenge so far. He needs to move close to his best
Novak ❤️
He is going to win all 4 this year
De Minotaur got slayed by the ancient Serbian hero Djokeus 🤣🤣
De Minaur needs a fast court to bump up the effectiveness of his groundstrokes. On this slow court, he was a sitting duck with no weapons. Djokovic was hitting huge forehands. Seemed totally fine physically and is well set for #22 now!
Thanks!
Demolished is the word. Payback time Australia.
Hii fatima
@King Nole 👑 Hello to u too. 😊
I didn't catch this match but did see the highlights of Rune Vs Rublev. A very entertaining super breaker. Rune's backhand DTL was pretty amazing, and a sorry way to end the match with the netcord. For me, Rune looked like he was spraying his forehand too much, and lost some points at net that he needn't have.
That was a Masterclass! Novak was invincible.
Great analysis of the match. Thanks Gill :)
Went a lot easier than I expected. Rublev should pose a bigger threat if he doesn't crumble mentally, and of course Djokovic leg stays in good shape. Don't really know much about the other two Americans, but then it should be a clear path to the final.
Djokovic looked amazing today. I do wonder if his injury could be targeted more though? Causing him to run/scramble etc.
You try that in your next match with Novak 😂
@@MBB9394 haha obviously way easier said then done
Stop with this fake ‘injury’ 😂

And let's not forget: Djoko has NEVER lost a match at the AO once he reaches the quarters.

Stanimal beat him in 2014 😭.
@@keranseunarine4274 You are right. I should have said that, once Djoko gets to the semis, he has always went on to win it all. My bad.
Wow! Djokovic is playing the best tennis that's ever been played by a human being. And he does that at 35.
Djokovic played smart, safe, and aggressive which is rare to see from him. Just a fantastic display of killer instinct.
I loved tha game. NOLE is looking solid! Rock on!
Arguably you can say this era is the weakest
He wanted revenge. He doesn't like deminaur's comments about him last year so he went for blood like he did against roddick in usopen before. He literally said "because i wanted to" when asked why he thrashed him this harshly.
Absolutely.
Could the drop shots help De Minaur to be more competitive?
De Minaur always seems to gets thrashed in round 4 of Slams
Jst came to see the saulty comments from fedal fans
It's so great, they will keep crying for the rest of their measly lives, hahaha.
Amazing performance by joker nole beast mode level was activated by Novak no chance for Alex de minur
People are saying Tommy Paul will beat Novak🤣...Novak will beagle him all 3 sets
Great video, would love to hear your point of view on match djoko against rublev
Hi Gill I love listening to your pod casts
However "get to net " needed a "the" and maybe drop about 6 of them?
Novak way too good. When he plays like this he just looks like the GOAT. Tough to think how one goes about beating him. Maybe Novak's biggest strength is that he an go down the line or cross court off both wings seemingly at will unless the ball coming at him is of the very highest quality. Alex's shots were just landing centrally without a ton of pace or depth and then Novak can just pick his shot with Alex trying to guess whats coming at him next.
Djokovic put Cheetah-Minaur in the wood-chipper.
...and it wasn't even that close 😎
here’s a fun fact , Nole has lost only a match since 27th of june 2022 1st round at Wimbledon, that’s almost 6 months !!
He could have done this in his younger days, but it's a tactical risk he didn't need to take when he was faster and defended better than the entire tour.
great content... just a thing i noticed from one of your earlier videos... khachanov isn't pronounced with a silent K 😆
The H is also voiced when Khachanov says his name.
Thank you for your fact-based analysis.
Well done you did collect guess.☝👏💪
Didn't bother watching this match, went to sleep knowing that when I woke up it would be Nole in straight sets, even if he's injured b/c DeMinaur's just not in the same league. These matches are just practice now until he gets to the final. I'm rooting for Tsitsipas v. Djokovic final... and I think Nole might be a little worried about Stef right now b/c he made a comment "forgetting" the 2021 RG final - mental gamesmanship perhaps. LOL
2023 - the Joker wins all 3. I mean all 4... if the US is really open... not the tournament of the closed doors
I see his leg had no issues anymore 😆 😂 😅
Nole the King...GOAT
You should have made video on Rublev Vs Rune instead of this lopsided match

There you go! hahaha!!
Nole 👏👏👏❤️🇷🇸
It just looked like De Minaur had no power or ability to direct the ball.
Vamos Noles SERBoles GOAToles!!!
you gotta make a ben shelton video, this dude is the real deal 2.0 i've been saying it (not on this channel) since last year.
Nothing about Lehecka? :(
The Demon without weapons. Easy prey for players like the Big 3
Demon has no weapons that could trouble Novak
This is how he played in Olymbics.. like unbetable when he played Kai.. Then lost multiple matches in a row. The truth is De Minaur does not match up well with Novak, just like Kai.
i am here for the spoilers!
I guess Novak's injury was just a minor nuisance just as I thought. It was so weird to me seeing him "struggle" and then proceeded to destroy his opponents in previous rounds. And then this happens. Never knew injuries could get better the more you play. Funny how that works. lol
Aside of that, Djokovic played flawless and De Mineaur lacks the power or the variety to do damage.
Same story as AO 2021. Said that he could have actually retired because he might have torn a muscle, proceeded to win the title. Dude is good enough to win without the silly drama.
Novak heals faster than anyone! He is a god!

He has won 21 grand slams. He is better than everyone else in the world. And he isn't coming up with new injuries when the opponent is 2 sets up. Like against McDonald recently. Or against Shapolavo. Or against Novak in RG 2021. Or against Wawrinka in Australian Open 2014 :)
