"You can always wait in this industry, but at some point you have to build something." Sounds like it should be on a tablet.... like one of those stone ones not.. never mind.
Something to take into account when testing compile times is that in large code bases (lots of compilation units/source files) the bottleneck is often storage speed and not the CPU. I've never tried this myself, but it's possible that having 2 test systems with different ssd's will skew the results.
yeah, this is what at least two generations ahead looks like. I mean, Intel hit most of the performance boxes it needed to here, and at the right price, but when you try to shove a modern microarchitecture designed into a fabrication process that is literally almost 7 years old at this point, you must deal with the inefficiencies of a what is now an inferior and antiquated fabrication process. There is no such thing as a free lunch, while a tiny bit of IPC efficiency was possible shoving Sunny Cove into 14nm, more performance on the same fabrication process with a similar core count is going to require more power, plain and simple. I'm happy with 11600K, I think Intel struck the right balance here given the limitations they had, and if we ever get these silicon shortage issues behind us, it should result in Intel and AMD competing aggressively on price with the 11600K/5600X and 11700K/5800X, meaning great deals for gamers and casual users.
Have you ever considered comparing "package prices" including motherboards? Looking at the prices at my local Microcenter, you can still get a decent B550 board with the 5600X for less money total than a decent Z4/590 board with the 11600K. In my opinion, that changes the value equation but I am curious to hear yours!

Hi Steven Burke, We've reached a critical juncture in the usage of Multi core enhancements on our cpu's and preffering gaming benchmarks and it has gained support from other reviewers, developers and top titles As you know Intel is all in for gaming. Gaming is important and core to the future of our cpu's. It is also one part of our focused R&D efforts on revolutionising video games and creating a better experience for gamers. This philosophy is also reflected in paying extra for k series and overclocking warranties that offer immense values to customers who are purchasing a cpu. They don't get free cpu's,they work hard and and they keep their cpus for multiple years. Despite all our progress , your cpu reviews have focused exclusively on common sense, price, productivity and power consumption and you have largely discounted all of the other technologies we offer to gamers,. It is very clear from your community commentary that you do not see things the same way we, gamers and the rest of the industry do. Our review sample CPUs are being allocated to media outlets that recognise the changing landscape of gaming and the features that are important to gamers and anybody buying a cpu today. Be it gaming, content creation or studio and streaming Gamers Nexus should continue to work with our retail patner's samples to secure CPUs to review. Of course you will still have access to obtain pre-release bios and press materials, that won'tchange. We are open to revisiting this in the future should your editorial directionchange. The #600k has long been a strong gaming CPU, I'm pleased to see the tradition continues. My personal experience of gaming rigs has left me in no doubt that for a hassle free gaming experience "you're better off blue" especially when paired with fast RAM (3600MHz tightish timings) difficult to beat without spending an awful lot more $$$. I had far too many "strange" issues, game launch fails and stutter during my AMD CPU days, even if they do excel in other areas, my PC only gets powered up for gaming so AMD's other benefits aren't relevant for me personally. Still it is good to have competition and choice, and AMD have certainly shaken things up.
@@lonniebeal6032 If you decide to go on a barebones motherboard sure. But right now the prices are identical for boards with pcie gen 4 and wifi 6. I joined the sub club at 1M threshold, and so far those episodes including "waste of sand" are getting more and more funny and sometimes ridiculously hillarious. Keep it up this is really one of more enjoyable yt channels lately
I don't agree with Steve that this is a viable gaming option. It doesn't come with a cooler and a Z490/590 board is on average more expensive than B550. If you already own a cooler - maybe. But if not, you'd spend just as much or more as the 5600X starting from scratch with the 11600K assuming $269 vs. $299. That being said, the 10600K at $189 at MC would actually bring you in at least $50 cheaper than the 5600X after a motherboard and cooler, and even more if you already have a cooler. 10th gen i5 is still the best pure-gaming option imo.

The lower price doesn’t even matter since all z590 motherboards are more expensive than their z490 predecessors across the board. A 5600x and a MSI b550 tomahawk would cost roughly $480. An 11600k and a MSI z590 tomahawk would cost $540. An easy choice IMO.

GN, could you add games that really tax high core CPUs, like city building (suggestion: Cities Skylines) and high detail games (suggestion: Star Citizen). Thank You. Love your content :D
If I remembered correctly, City Skylines only uses 3 cores max due to engine limitations. Not sure that changed or not since it received a lot of updates.
This cpu is really good. I just build a pc with it and it never goes to 100% usage while gaming and with my water cooler it continuously boosts to 4.8 GHz. Haven’t had much luck overclocking it though but it isn’t really required for me
I really hope intel's next CPU is better. The price hike on the zen3 CPUs was pretty significant. Enough so that the older 3600 could comfortably exist as a good option still.
I've had the 11600kf for 2 years, and it's been a great cpu. I have it paired with an RX 6800 (non XT). I've thought about upgrading to something less power-hungry, but I'll probably stick with it for a while longer because I'm happy with the performance.
@@claudiucojobv I think it's acceptable if you are informed of the issue, and aware of competition. It is what they have. It's a stopgap, not an upgrade for most people.
@@dex2531 I understand that this is the best they could do but 10th gen was already decently competitive so they just had to lower prices and flood the market with 10th gen CPU's... heck that would even have brought them more market share since AMD is in such a rough spot with being supply constrained by TSMC.
It is not a problem getting 5600X for the $299 MSRP from NewEgg or any of those mail order shops (bought one for Son #1). The solitary driving factor may simply be "which motherboard do you ALREADY have" as that is what will likely drive the decision. I have an older Intel board that can be modified to accommodate the i5-11600 (for son #2) so that is why I watched this video. Good stuff as always!
great test as always! will you guys test the 11400f with a b560 mobo since memory overclocking is now available with that chipset? it looks like a lot of value for the money
In my country, Mexico, the 11600K is $25 USD more expensive than the 5600X. Although the later is $38 USD more expensive than the expected price. So all in all, there is no brainer here. You are viewed around the globe so you should be more general when you talk about the prices, especially these strange days. Anyway, great video like always.
I found it really weird you would include CPUs like the 2700x or 3600, but not the i510600k for some tests. I think that end -over-end generational comparison would be far more important than showing CPUs that really wouldnt be considered as alternatives, or at least arent the direct competition
Not to mention a comparison between the 11600k OC vs 10700k OC to see if its a better performer than the only slightly more expensive 10700k after the recent price drops.
Well, I can say the 3600 is relevant being how popular it is not to mention it stays in the 200-220 dollar range usually, but more so the popularity. I was personally curious how it stacked up against the cpu in my pc, being a 3600, but I get your point tbh.
2:03 - Kaby Lake is the last Intel chip/motherboard I bought. ITX Z270 boards hit the market almost 6 months late and by the time I got one, the 8000 series came out 4 months later on a new socket/chipset. I was PISSED.
okay, the sensor on the sponsor keyboard is actually a fantastic idea. my wife HATES that she can see the RGB from our keyboards from other rooms at night. it'd be really cool if the RGB shut off automatically.
The problem with intel being the value brand is that their motherboards are still $40-50 dollars more than an AMD one. While the 5000 series is inflated I guess it makes since, but at msrp intel loses its "value" edge
If you want vakue get a 10850.. Best value cpu right now.. Or if you don't need games as much a 3700x. New cpus have bad value.. And the premium motherboards (x570 and z590) are same or cheaper for intel. So intel has cheaper cpu cheaper motherboard, better oc and.. Like it or not.. Is the new amd.
You haven't mentioned the most important! It has IGPU and better one this time (should about on par with Vega 3) while 5600x got none! It might be amazing in a situation if you're building a PC and can't get an actual GPU in times like these especially.
Or using it as an office PC, or HTPC, or similar. But that's not the target audience for GN, so I understand the lack of mention. Gamers are assumed to be using a DGPU. Future resale I'd think would be improved by having an iGPU though, as you can then sell the old gaming PC as a home office PC and sell it without the DGPU.
Time for AMD to release a $220 Ryzen 5 5600... In all seriousness, despite the insane power consumption, props to Intel for being more competitive here in terms of pricing. The 11600KF for $240 tray pricing is a really good deal if you can get one.
Save us Nexus! Oculus rift s user has been having issues with much of thier devices! They say it is a power problem and they have yet to correct it for over 1.5 years! Can you investigate it? The error is Display port, but claims say it is a power issue! No fix! Someone shine a light on this!
I don't even know what i7 vs i5 means anymore. In the long, long ago i7 meant double the threads as cores where the i5 only had as many threads as cores and the i7 had higher available speeds. I guess the i7 still has more cores and higher speeds available but none of that actually seems to matter. I'm building a new PC and I'm going with the i5-11600K, it's the price for performance leader it seems.
Ok, so here's the question then. For someone who isn't a hardcore gamer (but plays a few relatively light games such as WoW, Rocket League and some building in SL)., and also isn't a content creator which scenario would you choose. (Based on Micro Center pricing since I have one locally and all CPU's are in stock). 11600k - $270 10600k - $190 10700k - $250 10850k - $320 5600x - $300 Regardless of which option I go with I would need a solid (but doesn't have to be top end) mobo... but that's already built into the budget. Just trying to figure out which CPU is the best way to go.
I know you are probably a bit young to remember things such as "high street shops" as we call them here across the pond. I think you will find that stores such as Microcenter and Best Buy are selling 5600x's for $300 and mostly have stock, depending on region. The internet, such as outfits like Newegg, is not always the cheapest, especially in these price gouging times.
I honestly wouldn't buy these Rocket Lake ovens if they were at half the price. The heat and electricity bill alone is enough to consider them useless.
Just bought the 11600k as a combo with a Z590-P motherboard for $378 to go along with the RTX 3060 ti that I ordered along with it, as an upgrade from my gtx 1060 6gb and i5 7600k, it's worth the $1k I spent, I just wish that GPUs were retail so I could save a couple hundred bucks. But I've waited YEARS to upgrade since I've been playing on a 1440p monitor with this 1060.
@@UniqueBreakfastTaco Nice, the 10700k went on sale for $250 & got one & ill be skipping out on Rocket lake for sure lmao. Probably alder lake too. Ill probaby ride things out for a few years and see where AMD & Intel are then to see which motherboard to get.

Something to take into account when testing compile times is that in large code bases (lots of compilation units/source files) the bottleneck is often storage speed and not the CPU. Steve trying hard to hold back laughing when talking about 5600x power compared to Intel
Man listen, 65w for that performance it's just too insane. Intel has to use so much power just to get a little close that's just insane.
@@ibelieveinjesusinmyspareti2861 11400f is so close yet so much cheaper
yeah, this is what at least two generations ahead looks like.

In my opinion, that changes the value equation but I am curious to hear yours!

Hi Steven Burke,
We've reached a critical juncture in the usage of Multi core enhancements on our cpu's and preffering gaming benchmarks and it has gained support from other reviewers, developers and top titles
As you know Intel is all in for gaming.
Be it gaming, content creation or studio and streaming
Gamers Nexus should continue to work with our retail patner's samples to secure CPUs to review.

It might be amazing in a situation if you're building a PC and can't get an actual GPU in times like these especially.
