This series was top-notch Space opera in the mid 1950's. Very modern and no expense was spared... in fact they went over-budget so often they went belly-up after 37 or so episodes. Great stuff for youngsters born after WW2. I love Vena in her little space beanie. New viewers should keep in mind that this episode was for FUN... just as 'Trouble with Tribbles' was for fun in Star Trek.

While Winky was more interesting and energetic, with a better voice and looks, his issues of drinking, car crashes, and arrests proved too much of a distraction and bad publicity for the production. So they replaced him. Interestingly, Jimmy Lydon, famous as Henry Aldridge on radio was a costar with Scotty Becket in the two GASOLINE ALLEY movies from 1950. Lydon commented on how "difficult" Scott was then. In spite of his nasal voice and dull personality, Lydon was a "safer" bet at this point. I think that the series lost a lot because of this, however.
