Never heard or watched this show but as soon as you explained it I immediately thought of another mtv show"fist of zen" because it was so freaking similar. And when i looked it up yeah fist of zen was based around silent library. Fist of zen was a pillar of my childhood man it brought me back so many memories
I’ve literally been looking for this show forever because every once in a while I’ll remember watching it with my cousins and I cannot believe you found it. Gabi you are FANTASTIC
I loved MxC in my early twenties. The best was when they called out these illegal or unsanctioned actions by the contestants. “Oh that’s an illegal tea bag and that will cost them 80 points.” “How did the ref not call that Meet My Hairy Sally?!” 😊
MXC is one of my favorite shows to just put on and laugh nonstop for a half hour. Considering you've never heard of or seen it before, I would absolutely love it if you did a deep dive into that show because it is absolute nonsense and that's what I love about it.
Thank you for making this video gabi I had almost forgotten about silent library until now. I would definitely love to see more Japanese game show content including downtown no gaki no tsukai
More MXC, please! Such fond memories of hanging out with friends and laughing our asses off while smoking... it didn't need to make sense and was especially funny because of the randomness (and probably the weed too)
Im so happy you included MXC I literally grew up watching that show and for a kid this show was comedy gold oh my god, the random lines people would say before they absolutely eat shit, its just too perfect
“ we are all collectively 25 here “ now I feel weird cuz I’m 10 years older but I this was my high school years so I wanted to check it out, glad you included MXC. It came on after midnight when I used to stay up all night getting stoned. Greatest show ever
We had MXC in the UK too, but it kept the name of Takeshi's Castle! Watching footage of MXC here is a fever dream, especially with the weird dubbing of the contestants ??? The final showdown of each episode was so ridiculously unfair though, the contestants had NO chance
MXC and Takeshi's Castle are two different shows, Takeshi's Castle had Craig Charles narrating the show for the most part. MXC was more a comedic take on Takeshis Castle.
We had Takeshi's Castle in Germany too and me and my parents (first ironically, later actually) loved it! However, it was normal as in, you knew from the get go that there were 40 people competing against eachother idk what MXC was on about
Never heard of Silent Library but we did have Takeshi's Castle in France. It was like a goofy messy silly Ninja Warrior thing where you got to see people fall in mud over and over in bright sweaters. You didn't really care who won, just laughed at the silly falls.
As a 2005 born....Takeshi's castle was my late night fave tv show and its hindi dubbed version was funny asf......my whole childhood I've never found any other show as funny or crazy as Takeshi's castle
Okay, glad to be 25 again. And you definitely unlocked a memory I had repressed: this weirdly aired here in my country; there was this channel that was always buying weird shit from American TV. Hi from Portugal!
Same here in Germany! This just unlocked the memory of this weird tv channel with all these crazy American shows until later, most of them were solely on MTV
@@ZoeAlecxis it was earlier than that. So the German version of MTV called "Viva" would air this show in the evening, as well as MTV. Later on, MTV and Viva more or less became one channel, if I am not mistaken (I haven't watched cable tv in ages haha)
Gabi is possibly the best reaction youtuber, i love all the others and watched them more before her. But her content is so simple and wholesome and its like listening to a friend talk about something they like. Great way to spend a couple of minutes on. Go Gabi Go
This is my absolute favorite game show! Every time i bring it up it feels like no one knows about it. I showed it to my partner and we had a blast rewatching it all. Thank you for making this vid!
I think the reason why they changed the game show with two teams, because it has to do with Japanese history. Nobody's going to understand 40 people trying to take on a Shogun in America. But if they change it into two teams then it's like football and American Sports are easier to understand for an American audience.
Another story for Takeshi’s Castle, it was also aired in France in the early 2000, voiced over by two famous comedians of the day. I freaking loved this show, nothing made sense, it was too fast because of the re-editing, at the end they were fighting in laser shootings carts… I miss those things. I wish we could have those kind of things on RUclips.
MXC was such a weird fever dream to enjoy growing up. I enjoyed it so much, but no one ever knew what I was talking about. Then, later in life when I needed to remember it, every search attempt turned up American Ninja Warrior instead.
I have fond memories of watching Takeshi's castle with my parents when I was younger and I gotta say, the German dub was actually funny. My dad hated reality tv but he'd somehow just go "man, these Japanese guys are crazy" and stand in front of the tv (not sitting down, he wasn't "actually watching" ofc lol) for the whole show
In Spain in the 80s we also had takeshi’s castle dubbed with random stuff and insulting comments. It was called “Humor Amarillo” and it was really popular
I used to watch MXC with my dad and brother when I was a kid (which I probably shouldn't have). As an adult I still watch it with friends on occasion while we're absolutely zooted. Some of ther language did NOT age well but I do highly recommend for a fun time
MXC is one of the best shows I've ever seen. The bad dubs, things that don't make sense, it's all intentional, that's literally the joke. It's slapstick comedy with people dubbing over it who don't know what's going on either so they're just making up lines that they think are funny as they go.
My family used to watch this show all the time but I've never seen anyone talk about it so thank you gabi for helping me not think I fever dreamed how insane this show was
Not only was it dubbed on English but also on Spanish, we have takeshis castle dubbed and it is one of the best things I have watched in my childhood and to this day I still quote it. Of course the dubbing was by two comedians and it was completely made up. They made up characters and catch phrases. It was pure entertainment. I think the spanish verision was using more recent footage than from the 1980 cause the image was better and the levels way more advanced. The spanish version was all against all, some of the levels were in group but only a limited amount of people can win each round. My favorite was the sumo fights where one contestant had to pick a ball from a bag and depending on the color they had to fight a different person. And the names were fantastic the strongest one was called the madamme (la senora) and it was a huge sumo dude. Another was the coffee bean, a guy in a coffee bean costume (the coffee bean was dressed as a sumo) the weakest was harry potter cousin, it was a skinny dude with glasses. After hearing about the american version i can def say the spanish was better, the construction of the show made a lot of sense. The first level is the Chinese wall and its all contestants and they have a certain amount of time to go to the other side. The ones who made it could go to next level. Then the others were sometimes in different order, all platforming or some kind of physical test. it was hilarious. Also this was the main inspiration for fall guys. Good content Al turroooon !
as someone who didn’t grow up with cable, you are now legally obligated to make a video about the insanities of those American game shows and the Japanese ones too!!
MXC was my childhood. It was perfect for the time of early internet "random" humour. I still remember one of the commentators just saying "he's transitioned into a full blown scary uncle!" when a dude changed his stance on a surfboard into a crab-walk position.
As someone born in the 90s, Takeshi’s Castle was one of my all time favourites as a kid in the early 2000s. I’m from the UK, it was quite jarring to see those clips of the US version, it’s so different and even more bizarre. And I may be biased, but the UK version is definitely better, and voiced over by Craig Charles, it’s just perfect TV. Craig Charles also hosted Robot Wars, which is another ridiculous show that’s just an incredible watch. A year or two ago I revived these shows into my regular watch cycle for when I used to get stoned and just before bed 😂
Please do a whole video on MXC! I clicked on this by title only, thinking it was going to be about MXC (forgetting that it was a Spike show). I freakin' loved it!
I adored MXC growing up, my family and I watched the hell out of it. I always assumed something was lost in translation but just enjoyed the complete chaoticness of the dubbing. I actually bought the DVD of it during covid and it was just a delight to rewatch. I might just do it again XD
I watched Takeshis Castle so much as a child with my parents! Its an inside joke by now and we STILL make reference up to this day! I always loved the challenges where the contestants got hit off an elevated platform by some kind of construction into a big ass puddle. So basically any of the challenges
Silent Library is such a huge part of my childhood. My friends and I used to play silent library together when we went to summer camp with our church. We played it from 6th grade all the way through senior year of high school and it was some of the best times. Sadly, my fraternity brothers thought the game was dumb when I introduced it to them in college.
Takeshi's Castle actually had an excellent Dutch dub! Two presenters (one comedian, one straight man) would dub over the original Japanese footage to explain what was happening, but they didn't really know either, and hilarity ensued. Crucially, they did _not_ do bad lip-syncing of the contestants. And thanks for confirming I'm 25 again! My lower back needed that.
please make a video about Takeshi's Castle! It was amazing, and would definitly be an interesting tale of publishing eastern media in the west because my god the editing and dubbing on this (I'm from Germany) was crazy, but now that you showed me the english version it's even crazier, like completely different shows.
Never heard of Silent Library, but Takeshi's Castle? That was a big part of my childhood, Craig Charles as the announcer was a bizarrely good fit (I recommend giving our (UK) version a look if you do make a video on it)
Thanks Gab, now I feel old AF!! I used to love MXC and watched quite a bit, but even back in my high school days it's very apparent that NOTHING makes sense and the that footage was definitely not "recently" recorded. It was dumb as hell and I loved it!!! It's not spose to make sense and it definitely was super aware of itself being a spoofy "Game Show". I don't know what it says about me that I absolutely enjoyed this show! lol Ah good times...
In 2018 here in Brazil we had the Thailand version of Takeshi's Castle on Comedy Central. It was dubbed by Caito Mainier, an actor and comedian who I freaking love. He is known for his work on the deceased MTV Brazil [rip... lots of great shows there], and the spectacular "Choque de Cultura" ["Culture Clash"*. Highly recommend it amongst other shows on "TV QUASE" here on yt.] The show itself was already funny in that ridiculous silly way but the specific and on point narration always caught my laughter. Love these stupid shows were u just burst into laughter cause of the nonsensical theatric extravaganza allied with the simple format. The [+-] 25 years old like ourselves crave for more fun television shows like the ones we watched back in the day 😂 Loved the video!!! Kisses from Brazil 💚
OMG Takeshis Castle! Here in germany we had this running back when i was a kid (born 93). It was with a german translation but else pretty uncut original. Fantastic show. The MTV Shows were running translated as well, but i only saw stuff like cribz, next & pimp my ride running. That the was the good times. Should rewatch some of it in original now.. anyways, thx gabi for a once again wholesome and entertaining bit about pop culture

You can't do this Gabi, giving me Mid 2000s Nostalgia like NakeyJakey. Its too much for me 😄 But I've gotta say, Takeshis Castle was awesome! Here in germany it was a pretty big deal and it was one of the few shows, which everybody enjoyed. It's kinda wholesome, how I was watching Takeshis Castle in the Mid/Late 2000s right after coming home from school. I remember how it was mostly aired on fridays and when a family member came by, they would most likely sit down and watch it with me. Just everybody liked it, everybody was laughing and having a great time on a friday afternoon right at the start of the weekend. We got the "40 contestants are going for the finale to fight Takeshi in the autoscooter challenge" - version and 99% of the time the contestants lost. I remember how there were rumors going around at school like "I've watched Takeshis Castle recently and I saw how the contestants won!"... And nobody would believe that 😄 Your videos are great, keep it up!

Literally makes the place feel like a liminal space. Idk if the owner just really likes it or what, but it's like a tradition for my family to watch and talk about it as we eat now
I am so happy for you that you found MXC. Such a fun watch. Would definitely be interested in a video all about it!
im BEGGING you to cover either the original or UK version of Takeshi’s castle- if not for the fact every episode we were faced with contestants that LITERALLY never won the game. Like- ever. Every single time the commentator would talk so hopefully about the new group hoping they would be the ones to finally beat and he’d still be so surprised when they lost. 😭wild-
That pizza trick is what every show should be
Nope. It shouldn't. L opinion.
@@minafrota6124i regret to inform you that you are wrong and cambridge university has decided to analyse you for anthropological reasons to get a better understanding on how wrong and stupid you are for that opinion.
@@minafrota6124 ok lol
This is literally what I said when I saw it. That is Real Television.

It wasn't until I watched your video with your sister that I realized your not just researching- scripting - making jokes and posting it. You are a high level editor. I just love the part where your like my mic didn't record get over it - it's something I wouldn't have noticed I just thought it was a different day and it sounds different. Your attention to detail is amazing your so talented.
Also totally agree that reddit is a place you get shit on anytime you say anything lol
Takeshis Castle is great, it was HUGE in germany. It was aired alongside American Gladiator.
Best current gameshow is probably Taskmaster UK, best I have ever seen is The Genius from South Korea. Running Man was great too.
I mean any Taskmaster is worth a watch, but I must say the original remains my favorite
oh yeah the original is great but man the NZ and Aussie versions are superb too, especially NZ S2. Also recommend the Norwegian version if you can find an upload with subs
MXC was such a good show. It perfectly encapsulated the "LOL so random XD" energy of the time.
We're happy you were able to discover it.
As a person from the UK who enjoyed some Takeshi's castle when I wanted to turn my brain off, I will not be satisfied until you tell me everything there is to know about "Most Extreme Challenges"
Wow I've never heard of "Silent Library" in my life but OMG I LOVED MXC SOOOO MUCH thank you Gabi
Please do MXC, it's truly a fever dream that I watched too much of when I was 14 😂
Thank you for making this video gabi I had almost forgotten about silent library until now. I would definitely love to see more Japanese game show content including downtown no gaki no tsukai
More MXC, please! Such fond memories of hanging out with friends and laughing our asses off while smoking... it didn't need to make sense and was especially funny because of the randomness (and probably the weed too)
I am 99.9% certain that no translators were hired for Spike's MXC and they just made random shit up that they thought Americans would laugh at.
Oh I’m 100% certain that’s the case.
1. I will always bless Gabi
Same, our high school years. 😪
I loved MXC when it was first on, and to this day it's still one of my comfort shows when I'm having a rough time.
@@clarimm6675on what channel was it? I just remember it being on MTV. TLC maybe? Or that D…thing…. Dmax? With the “sexy sport clips” stuff? 😂😂😂
@@ZoeAlecxis it was earlier than that. So the German version of MTV called "Viva" would air this show in the evening, as well as MTV. Later on, MTV and Viva more or less became one channel, if I am not mistaken (I haven't watched cable tv in ages haha)
@@clarimm6675 Oh ja, ich erinnere mich an Viva. Oh Gott, ich bin alt 😂😂😂 danke!

There used to be a show called ''Banzai'' check that out, wipe your seatbelt and ware your poop.. 1
I think the reason why they changed the game show with two teams, because it has to do with Japanese history. Nobody's going to understand 40 people trying to take on a Shogun in America. But if they change it into two teams then it's like football and American Sports are easier to understand for an American audience.
hi gabi i think there’s a typo in your title, i think you typed both make and adapt instead of just one of the two :)
Another story for Takeshi’s Castle, it was also aired in France in the early 2000, voiced over by two famous comedians of the day.
I freaking loved this show, nothing made sense, it was too fast because of the re-editing, at the end they were fighting in laser shootings carts…
I miss those things. I wish we could have those kind of things on RUclips.
MXC is incredible. I know we're all 25, but it's awesome watching younger people discover it for the first time.
MXC was such a weird fever dream to enjoy growing up. I enjoyed it so much, but no one ever knew what I was talking about. Then, later in life when I needed to remember it, every search attempt turned up American Ninja Warrior instead.
MXC is so good man. I always figured Spike randomly bought the IP for a show and pulled an Adult Swim type move, and decided to make an insane parody.
MXC one of my favorite shows, every episode is absolute insanity from start to finish
My friends and I did our own silent library back in the day in our local public library. It was fun and silly
If someone tells me to stay silent I too am immediately as giggly as Jimmy. Like "look at us this is so stupid teehee"
I have fond memories of watching Takeshi's castle with my parents when I was younger and I gotta say, the German dub was actually funny. My dad hated reality tv but he'd somehow just go "man, these Japanese guys are crazy" and stand in front of the tv (not sitting down, he wasn't "actually watching" ofc lol) for the whole show
OML GABBIE, MY PARENTS WATCHED THIS WITH ME AND MY BROTHER WHEN WAS VERY YOUNG MXC IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST AND NO ONE IVE EVER MET HAS SEEN IT!!!
I think MXC, Vic Romano and Kenny Blankenship really influenced a good portion of my humor during my teen years.
Don't forget Guy LeDouche
I love that y'all are finding MXC and Silent Library. We used to watch this on TiVo the OG "pause and rewind live TV" . Ahhh the memories.
Ah Japan, where the grind goes hard and the unwind goes harder
In Spain in the 80s we also had takeshi’s castle dubbed with random stuff and insulting comments. It was called “Humor Amarillo” and it was really popular
1:17 "we are all collectively 25" well its my 25th birthday so I suppose this must be true
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday!!
Rewatching the older ones. Still Amazing !! 😂 So happy that you are nearing 1 MILLION SUBS!!!
Good content
Al turroooon !
as someone who didn’t grow up with cable, you are now legally obligated to make a video about the insanities of those American game shows and the Japanese ones too!!
MXC was my childhood. It was perfect for the time of early internet "random" humour. I still remember one of the commentators just saying "he's transitioned into a full blown scary uncle!" when a dude changed his stance on a surfboard into a crab-walk position.
Jimmy Fallon be that one friend that causes everyone else to break down into laughter. Also, I absolutely loved this show.
PLEASE do a whole video on Extreme Elimination Challenge, I am FASCINATED

As someone born in the 90s, Takeshi’s Castle was one of my all time favourites as a kid in the early 2000s. I’m from the UK, it was quite jarring to see those clips of the US version, it’s so different and even more bizarre. And I may be biased, but the UK version is definitely better, and voiced over by Craig Charles, it’s just perfect TV. Craig Charles also hosted Robot Wars, which is another ridiculous show that’s just an incredible watch. A year or two ago I revived these shows into my regular watch cycle for when I used to get stoned and just before bed 😂
good to know people are still finding out about Takeshi's Castle/MXC amazing show!
Please do a whole video on MXC! I clicked on this by title only, thinking it was going to be about MXC (forgetting that it was a Spike show). I freakin' loved it!
Gabi you NEED to look into the UK Takeshi’s Castle - very similar to the American dub sort of, but with British weirdness added to the chaos
I 100% remember watching mxc as a kid, it always feels like a fever dream when I think about it
I adored MXC growing up, my family and I watched the hell out of it. I always assumed something was lost in translation but just enjoyed the complete chaoticness of the dubbing. I actually bought the DVD of it during covid and it was just a delight to rewatch. I might just do it again XD
Great video, Gabi! I can't believe the new about the Silent Library guy! Crazy world, no joke.
I loved MXC in high school. It was pure chaos, and my dumb child brain was super into it.
appreciation commentary underrated it's so much nicer to watch someone actually like something as opposed to so many ppl just shitting on stuff
My favourite MXC bit was a singing contest and one of the guys did a hard rock/metal song called conjugal visit.
I still quote this to this day
Takeshi's Castle actually had an excellent Dutch dub!
Sometimes you DO need show like silent library, to give little laugh and make feel good! I love it!
please make a video about Takeshi's Castle!
That was a big part of my childhood, Craig Charles as the announcer was a bizarrely good fit (I recommend giving our (UK) version a look if you do make a video on it)
Most Extreme Elimination Challenge was one my favorite shows back in yonder years, comedy gold
Mxc was incredible. Some of the dubs come so far out of left field and just slay me for minutes at a time
Thanks Gab, now I feel old AF!!
"Hey can I copy your homework?"
"Sure but change it up a bit"
*MXC*
In 2018 here in Brazil we had the Thailand version of Takeshi's Castle on Comedy Central. It was dubbed by Caito Mainier, an actor and comedian who I freaking love. He is known for his work on the deceased MTV Brazil [rip... lots of great shows there], and the spectacular "Choque de Cultura" ["Culture Clash"*. Highly recommend it amongst other shows on "TV QUASE" here on yt.]
The show itself was already funny in that ridiculous silly way but the specific and on point narration always caught my laughter. Love these stupid shows were u just burst into laughter cause of the nonsensical theatric extravaganza allied with the simple format.
The [+-] 25 years old like ourselves crave for more fun television shows like the ones we watched back in the day 😂
Loved the video!!! Kisses from Brazil 💚
keep examining mxc.
i love the show and it's awesome to have someone talk about it even if they don't like it.
MXC is such a throwback I’d definitely be into a whole video
OMG Takeshis Castle! Here in germany we had this running back when i was a kid (born 93). It was with a german translation but else pretty uncut original. Fantastic show. The MTV Shows were running translated as well, but i only saw stuff like cribz, next & pimp my ride running. That the was the good times. Should rewatch some of it in original now..
anyways, thx gabi for a once again wholesome and entertaining bit about pop culture
MXC was one of my favorite shows as a kid. It's one of those shows me and all of my siblings always agreed on watching
I cannot stress enough how much I love Gaki no Tsukai. Their show is AMAZING. definitely recommend watching it wherever you can
My dad and I would watch MXC all the time. It was a show that we didnt watch for logic we just watched it for the laughs and the fails. Would love for you to cover it.
i had convinced myself that most extreme elimination challenge was some fever dream i had just made up bc i did not know how to describe it even if i wanted to search for it i just have vague memories of seeing it on tv as a kid so thanks for clearing that up 😭
You can't do this Gabi, giving me Mid 2000s Nostalgia like NakeyJakey. Its too much for me 😄
But I've gotta say, Takeshis Castle was awesome!
And nobody would believe that 😄
Your videos are great, keep it up!
