I am a 53 year old woman that just graduated with my BFA in Graphic Design and self teaching in illustration and painting. I refuse to let this ageist world label me and hold me down. I keep up with current trends and styles and I know the history of art and design. If us "older" people are not allowed to retire until we are 62 then you're going to have to let us work until then! PERIOD> Also, remember this, if you are young now, you WILL be older soon. Don't be ageist. You'll only be hurting your future self. We are all human beings with feelings and aspirations. Love is the answer. The mindset that older people cannot adapt to technology as quickly as the younger generation is such an ageist way of thinking. It's such a lie. I can run circles around many people in the tech world. Don't judge people by how they look. You don't judge people by the color of their skin or by their sex, so don't judge us by the number of lines on our faces and we wont judge you for your lack of experience lines. You are me and I am you.
I'm 36, doing my bachelors in Computer Science. At the same time, graphic design, particularly motion, and illustration interest me too. I'm considering minoring as well as just going for a few certificates as well.
Hi! I don’t usually leave comments, but I felt this was important enough to do so :) I just wanted to say thank you for all of videos. I recently declared my major as Graphic Design and I was a little nervous I was making the wrong decision. After finding your channel, I feel so much more confident and excited for the future. You are extremely helpful and do a wonderful job covering topics. Thank you!!
This is an interesting topic. I am a 55-year-old Senior Graphic Designer for a large corporation and also a freelance Graphic Designer. I never felt my age was a concern. Remember, clients or prospective employers are looking for experts in the industry and have a fantastic portfolio to prove it. If you claim or represent yourself as an expert, the employers will have a hint that what you are claiming is true. Don't think about your age; think about how you present yourself; after all, you are in the field of persuasion and deliverables.
hi i just wanted to pop here and say that i am glad you are back here with vids!!! appreciate your advice. also don't be sad about not having lot of views!!! it's more important to make inpact and that's exactly what you do
Michael Beirut spoke at Spalding University one time in Louisville Kentucky for an AIGA Conference. When I asked him the same question (because I had a problem with a teacher at my college), the one thing he said specifically is that design has no age limit.
You do know there is a law against the age discrimination. Experience is what matters in design. A good designer should have a solid foundation in design. Not following the trend.
Hello so you are saying that if I’m 23 right now I will have chance to work above 40 y of age because I will have a lot of experience since I started career at young age while someone who starts career at 40 or 50 without experience might have it tough ?

Yea, that's generally my view on this matter. Unless you're 50 with no experience but for some reason, your work is very professional.
Thanks for the information
thanks for watching!
Yes it does. X-ers and older kern their type, younger generations don't.
I rather hire an older person with experience than a younger person who will probably quit in the next 3 months.
very good vid thanks
thank you!
