FINALLY SOMEONEADE A VIDEO ABOUT THIS!!! its was incredibly frustrating to see deadman's "remix" become so popular that shibayan couldn't post their own song
Deadman even tried copyright claiming shibayan's song, thankfully it didn't work and eventually he had to give credits. Unfortunately the damage is already done and his version is more well known than Tiny Little Adiantum.
I still prefer the remix to the original. The original just sounds like any other Japanese song, but the remix has got that Western flair. There's a damn near similar identical occurrence with the pimp Named slickback remix, all some kid did was add some Roblox sounds and it went from Underground to Super popular tiktok song
Lets call this what it was: it was plagiarism. Deadman claimed the track as his own work and profited from it, even attempting to block Shibayan from uploading their own work. A massive shame.
It's a sample, which many genres base their music off of; It's like saying Biggie Smalls or Tyler, The Creator plagarise their music. It's unfortunate how RUclips's copyright system works but that's not the remixer's fault. Not to mention that the remix falls under fair use, at least under American law.
@@OrangeYTT none of this would happen if he credit and ask for permission properly in the first place. While remix fall under fair use, fair use is determined by court. Just yelling its fair use is useless.
Jesus christ, I knew Deadman didn't credit Shibayan initially, but selling the song to a company for 5000 usd? That dude is a fucking crook. Sad thing is Shibayan or ZUN won't be able to reverse any of that, because of the copyright-free nature of Touhou works. The doujin culture of Touhou is beautiful precisely because everyone respects the rules despite there being no hard law around it, but sometimes these kinds of scammers ruin it for everybody.
ZUN still holds the copyright to Touhou and it's music. He just never enforces it. Technically speaking, he could copyright claim that one song to fuck Deadman over, but I feel like it would turn into a whole cluster.
Welp, Touhou isn't Copyright free, it has its ruleset. *It just happens that ZUN only enforces it if you really screw it BIG TIME, ask Ufotable how do they know it.*
@@SenshiSunPowerNahh people use clips from shows in raps/music all the time, don't think there's anything they can do about it. There isn't any damages they can point to, if anything it probably increases exposure. No the people truly wronged who have a case here are the makers of the original song
It's heartbreaking how shit can just get stolen by this from basically one guy who couldn't give a shit to properly credit or acknowledge the original creators or reimburse them
@@SpecterNeverSpectator I thought Young Girl A was simply sampled without permission or credit (until the latter was added) by Kentenshi for Paranoia, and that the other remixes made it clear that it's still titled Young Girl A, but remixed, instead of being presented as a different song. Unless there's other cases I don't know. But yeah, Kentenshi is rather scummy for that, and to make it worse, most of Siinamota's/Powapowa-P's songs were his personal vents, so it's very disrespectful
Deadman breaking ZUN's guidelines was the worst part. ZUN actually launched a service called Touhou Doujin Music Distribution in 2018 which acts as an official distributor for both original and arranged Touhou music. This allowed for arranges to be sold digitally. However, at the time of the incident it didn't allow music streaming platforms yet. Deadman monetized his remix in ways arrangers weren't even allowed to. Interestingly, Touhou Doujin Music Distribution already supported youtube's Content ID at the time. My guess is that it wasn't active for all registered circles just yet. By the way, Tiny Little Adiantum's current Content ID still has the "Omae Wa Mou" album cover for some reason.
To this day, I still kind of hate the creation of the TDMD, because it fucked up a lot of youtube uploads. I'm glad he did something like this, but I can't stand how much it's fucked up sharing Doujinshi music for touhou, harder to find the good stuff like I used to back in the day.
Yeah the remnants of "Omae Wa Mou" nice try RUclips Content ID man I'm kinda pissed at deadman 1000x already but yeah I'm even more pissed if I see that album cover
Tbh if the distribution service was modernized, Deadman would have never been able to upload his track & profit from it, bc the song would have already been uploaded & added to content ID. But then again, getting Japanese businesses to use modern technology is like Sisyphus pushing the rock up the mountain, they love their faxes and paper copies
Content ID needs to be fixed... this is off topic but there are a lot of "copyright-free" background music in youtube video. when I use shazam, shazam always tells me some random "rapper" is rapping on that copyright-free music. It's so wrong.
@@whispii Also not super relevant but maybe worth mentioning for people searching by Yuuka's theme. She has 3 themes within the Touhou (not sure about Seihou). As she appeared as a boss twice in Touhou 4.
As Touhou is the greatest source of freedom and creativity on the internet, stealing from that freedom is a crime like no other. Touhou is the role model for what fan-created content and corporate-free content should look like. The internet could've given us this blessing ten years ago, but we have instead left ourselves suffocated.
@@igorgiuseppe1862 We respect vocaloid's contributions, but in many ways, vocaloid's success served Touhou's success as well. We will never forget nor will we not stand to preserve the lessons and blessings of the free internet.
Absolutely beyond agree, when I see a Touhou arrange that I've never seen before it baffles me just what depth of culture and imagination went into it all. The thought that anyone would think to make petty dime off of something practically sacred is just miserable.
ive actually resented deadman for years. a lot of people say i overreact to this incident but its hard not to, when it just means that other people can get away with the same shit deadman did. especially since i was one of the people who got fooled into thinking omae wa mou is the original. i only found out late 2020.
For me, back then when i first heard omae wa mou, for some reason i felt cringe. Then i quickly saw a comment on the video saying that it was a remix of something else and discovered Tiny Little Adiantum and the original Flower Land song from there. This was in 2019 iirc, back when it started to become viral
Glad you didnt see this scandal when started. I got the news the very day it was discovered that Shibayan's song was plagiarized. And as a old fan... this really snapped something on me. Deadman has literally no respect from me, because besides the legal rules... he really disrespected one of the biggest fandoms out there.
People call him Deadman but his name is Lil boom and when I confronted him years ago about it. He got angry and threw a fit saying "he paid for the record so it's ok"
This affair is one of the very few things I still get mad about. Every time I hear that line, or see someone say that "omae wa mou" is better, I wanna slap someone through my screen. Shibayan is such a sweet person (and rather approachable when it comes to working together (if I remember an old friend's words right))
You know what, some people just have really bad taste in music, and that's completely fine, why? Because a lot of things are relative, what is not fine is the fact that he (deadman) obviously stole the music (pretty much claimed it was his) and only credited the original creator after many backlash later. Imagine someone stealing other artists art, do some really lazy modifications to it and claiming it was theirs, ignorant people be like: "tHiS iS sO MuCh BeTteR thAn tHe OriGinaL", because this is pretty how i see it.
Shibayan records raised me and i was genuinely mad with the monitization of omaewa mou. Still listen to them to this day tho and im glad theyre actively releasing stuff
Calling Omae Wa Mou a "remix" is completely outrageous. They literally just stole it and then for a while tried to completely deny where the Song is from, while profiting A LOT off of it. It should not have even been allowed on spotify in the first place. Due to assholes like this, laws for sampling other peoples songs are extremely strict and hindering for actually creative musicians. I never saw the articles at 5:48 before but holy sht do they make me angry. If your job is being a journalist, FOR A MAJOR MUSIC MAGAZINE, cant you do more than 1minute of research?! Its not that hard to find out where the original song is form. "Song built around an obscure Sample of Bossa Nova" HOLY SH- Sorry for this angry comment but this has angered me for years now. Fuck Deadman. really. Sad that he isnt really one. The only positive thing about it, is that I now have another thing to show to people, who say they have never heard of touhou before lol
@@squashn.695 thank you for your info! after i commented i went to listen the song for the first time and learned that, but decided its too late to go back and change things
Moral of the story: Sample at some point is okay, stealing is not. Dont be like a Marisa, "borrowing" and dont return it. Gotta say, Shibayan deserves more love for their work~
What would you think about the fact that Juice WRLD's "Used To" sampled "Crescent Moon" by "Felt" without any credit? It was more than likely a total accident, believable because some Touhou fan decided to upload part of the Touhou remix as a sample to a music sample library for free before realizing his mistake and taking it down, but not before the artist behind "Used To" found and sampled it. The album that Juice WRLD's song was in hit quintuple platinum (over 5 million sales) and has nearly 300million plays on Spotify alone
@@PneumaAsh I geunienly feel its fine, as Juice WRLD added lyrics. another sample could've done the same job, but the main focus is the lyrics, not the song.
Huge fan of Shibayan; I do recall briefly hearing the "remixed" version gain popularity and was thinking "oh wow Shibayan hit mainstream, nice!" but didn't know that no credit was given. This story hurts to hear, but thanks for sharing. At the very least, as you said, more people have found Shibayan thanks to this, which is fantastic.
As a Touhou fan, I can't thank you enough for making a video about this topic. There needs to be more awareness about this and I'm glad at least some people know.
In my old English cover of the song I did a couple years ago, I included the name Tiny Little Adiantum near the end in my English lyrics! I also wrote my own poem and added onto it in the second half. I really loved the song and have a remaster sitting around, but I never uploaded it because the song isn't popular anymore.
Never stopped bothering me as well. I grew up with doujin circles like Shibayan, FELT, and Halozy in the early 2010s, so a problem for Shibayan kinda felt like a problem for me. Seems it might be more common than some people think for western musicians to "sample" things from Japanese media and put a generic hip hop beat over it. Another example-albeit slightly less egregious-is No Social Media by Wiz Khalifa. It very blatantly just takes Main Theme from Higurashi and doesn't even try to transform it in any meaningful way. Of course, most of the normies wouldn't realise this just like with Omae Wa Mou.
Paranoia and Dragonfruit Salad are another examples of that too. Meanwhile, All My Fellas was subsconciously influenced by a Japanese song. I guess the unauthorized sampling/plagiarism has something to do with Japanese music having unique composition compared to Western music
Grew up with exactly these same ones. Halozy, FELT, Shibayan, Hatsunetsumikos... Never get tired of listening to these, especially Shibayan. Real shame that touhou music is being stolen without credit and there are many cases like this.
To this day, I am still feel bad that the plagiarized version is still being misinformed by many as “totally legit work” not knowing how it’s just pure theft with wall of lies and sugarcoating (if anything the plagiarized one is just downgrade of LTA) While nowadays situations is more or less cleared, the misinformation and misunderstandings are still high, and the thieves are still get off free. On good side, the drama has started to make some people and circles to prepare for pure plagiarism like this case. Note: Alice Margartroid channel mentioned in video, was terminated, with speculation that it’s about some Touhou Doujin Circles start to ask channels to delete reupload on channel, but seem like Alice Channel Owner might not been checking their email, and as time asked passed, the report and termination was done. Edit: Just learn from getting another Shibayan Record work recommended… and learn that another grifter who also plagiarized other than d-grifter, lil b-grifter, also plagiarized Shibayan Record another song too… wow
MC Virgins? Detrobeats? Lil Boom? deadman? Man those people alone did something that made me angry. MC Virgins plagiarized Tiny Little Adiantum and soda pop ice cream (Sagume's theme arrangement) Detrobeats and Lil Boom made a Farewell, Narcissus trap remix (Satori Maiden arrangement) deadman plagiarized Tiny Little Adiantum (the most famous one), fuwafuwa Doremy, and Lost Child's Echo (hartmann's youkai girl remix) In total, all these people stole 5 different Shibayan songs
@@ambasing_omaygot God… Fraking, Damn It All. Do those pos saw how successful of a scheme TLA plagiarized, many start copy cat scheme with Touhou Doujin Music Plagiarism??!?
In the Hispanic side of the internet it was even funnier because in the "remix" a lot of the original lyrics were missing so people took what was left in that version, poorly translated it, and said it was a really dark song about a girl being abused. You can imagine how many people actually learned about the original song
Probably the worst/saddest 2hu hijack ever. Unless you count the floods on /a/ so many years ago. But still, Yuuka's theme went through fan-made iterations, then a remix of a remix hijacked with its popularity, yet bearing barely any traces back to Shibayan or Touhou Project. And then the copyright dumpster fire & all that.
worst of all, the largest hijack. larger than Bad Apple!! ft. Nomico imo, based on the number of audio views on Omae Wa Mou, not including all videos that have played the track at one point on TikTok.
I already knew the original from some videos back in mid 2010s and that was before i got into touhou and anime even. Few years later, seeing that people thought that omae wa mou was the original i immediately was in disbelief because i thought "Wait a minute i've heard this before". At the time my memory was blurry but despite that i knew that it wasn't the original so i dig deeper and found the original that was uploaded by Alice Margatroid. The video was uploaded back in 2013 so at the time i was happy because this was proof that Omae wa mou wasn't the original. Sadly the channel got taken down by youtube which makes me worried about how people will mislead both the orignial and the so called "remix" now.
was similar for me, i remembered the tune from older videos and was confused when this "omae wa" stuff came up more. eventually found the proper video upload by chance and happy to finally know the real title. and reading the comments about what happened. hate these lazy thieves.
I think the main reason this situation Always makes me so mad to think about is because it's such a desecration to the creative process in doujin Touhou media. You will likely never run into the situation where you've found a touhou remix and can't figure out who made it, the original track it's based on, when it came out, where to buy it, etc etc etc. ZUN's creative works policies are so lax more than any other creative I've ever known and it has become such an integral reason for the series' influence on online culture everywhere. I feel the same way about this how I do about Rooster Teeth stealing assets from MikuMikuDance models and monetizing those seasons. Ironically enough, the main assets stolen and used on RWBY were primarily assets from Touhou Project MMD models made by Montecore. Similarly the community around MMD is big on proper crediting and basically any asset you'll ever use on that program comes with a readme with a terms of service, which 90% of them include a disclaimer not to use their materials for commercial profit. Oftentimes Japanese creators will even translate it for English users. It's all just so insulting to have people come and take advantage of communities that are making really good art oftentimes completely for free out of the passion they have for the topic.
Touhou Project has a beautiful culture of fan works (art, manga, music, fangames, novels, etc.), encouraged by ZUN's lax leaning towards allowing anyone to do what they wish in reference the content of the series, so long as its not just cut+paste and in fact your own original work, and most importantly that it credits Touhou Project, Team Shanghai Alice and ZUN with the original source. ShibayanRecords is a well beloved arrangement collective with a long history and a wide variety of music genres. To see some outsider weeb tourist come and spit on the culture of trust and respect around Touhou Project, and especially ShibayanRecords for their own personal gain is just fucking disgusting.
I'm so thankful that someone did a video covering this topic. I was so pissed by the fact when that """remix""" by Deadman was so commonly heard everywhere on the internet, but bearly any recognition were given to shibayanrecords' circle members years ago😭😭
thank you so much for this video!! as a brazilian (and also a bossa nova fan), it's really cool to see that one of our best music styles is still recognized around the world, especially because this genre has lost relevance here in brazil. but I gotta make a confession, I unfortunately... only discovered about shibayan because of deadman, and I initially thought the arrange was his... sorry... Ever since I discovered the original source I immediately feel in love with shibayan's music, and I still listen to it today (i'm addicted to "Farewell, Narcissus"). discovering it also made me rediscover touhou too, even making me actually play the games, before this I didn't knew a lot about it (there weren't a lot of touhou content in portuguese, and I didn't spoke english at the time yet). I hope this video gets recommended to as many people as possible, what deadman (and lil boom) did was really bad and people gotta know who the original author is, plus, I can be wrong, but if I remember correctly, they also stole other music from other people as well, can't remember if it was before or after this drama, but I remember hearing this at the time. just a note for the uploader: youtube didn't render the timestamps as chapters (yea, that's just it, also happy new year!)
I hated that era cause everyone was stealing music and putting the most basic trap beat ovr it and claiming it as their own. Tiny little adiantum is such a nice, chill song too and the ‘remix’ is objectively worse and now associated with shitty cringe 2018 memes. Worst fate u could have for a genuinely good track
doujinshi (同人誌) are specifically print doujin (同人) works. with 誌 meaning magazine. generally fan circle, self-published works are just referred to with 同人
i thought i knew everything there was to know about the tiny little adantium / omae wa mou drama, turns out I still learnt something new (mainly, that the upload by the original makers were copyright struck, multiple times). thanks for mentioning alice margatroid btw, gotta at least preserve this legendary channel somehow. and thank goodness there are now 16 mil views on shibayan's channel from that one song alone, it's a based song from a based album from a based artist.
In Anime Conventions, they still play Omae wa Mou and it still makes me frustrated to this day. I get happy when I hear the intro, but the quote from the anime ruins the whole song for me
I'm a pretty avid fan of music coming out of Reitaisai especially the bossa nova ones and have learnt how to play alot of them on the piano, Tiny Little Adiantum included. Whenever I played it, 9/10 they would mention Omae Wa Mou. If it wasn't for 1 person who I shared Shibayan to before Omae Wa Mou got big it would have been 10... Fucking 10... It honestly breaks my heart knowing an already underrated group in a niche subculture of also a niche franchise got overshadowed by what is basically just adding basic beats that sound like a sample which ruins the original genre of the song. I hope this video gets more traction because I'm really passionate about this whole subcommunity of the Touhou fandom
It’s songs like this that negatively affect attitudes towards sampling too. I like seeing how creative sampling can get, but for every 1 great song that utilizes sampling there’s like 5 tasteless songs out there
@@Giovansbilly I would say that sampling does often come in the form of plagiarism though it is not always so. Songs like Omae wa Mou have no place. They’re the musical equivalent to Dadaist art
@@patricklewis9787Honestly this is just my 2 cents but calling Sampling as Plagiarism is just weird. Though i can see why you think of it that way, i mean imagine having a Beautiful Cake for your Sister's Wedding, you of all people cut a portion of that Cake, and sell it, shit seems Sketchy. At the same time i don't agree with that at all because "Usually" right you don't just take that Slice of Cake put it in a Box and then Sells it, no you the usual procedure should include how you take that Slices to your home, try to understand what the hell is this, try to make it yourself and using that as a base to make your own Cake and then selling it. If you just take a part of it and directly sell it, it's not Sampling imo it just Theft exactly how Deadman does it. (Using a cake as an example maybe one of the worst thing i can do forgive me but that's just what makes sense to me atm.)
@@Azazantei I think my issue lies with what line dictates whether a sample is (or isn’t ) plagiarism. The reasons I see people come up with more subjective if anything. We can call deadman’s sample “lazy” or “uninspired” or whatever but it doesn’t stop the fact that it can still be considered his own “song”. I don’t agree with it but it is what it is. For example in Kanye’s song “Power” he sampled King Crimson, and the band sued him for doing so. Even though the “Power” doesn’t come off as plagiarism they had every right to do so, even if I think they shouldn’t have done that. Also the cake analogy was a pretty decent one.
I tried telling so many people that it’s a Touhou song by Shibayan. I wouldn’t even call“Omae Ma Wou” a remix because it stills sound so much like the original. It’s a shame what happened because ZUN allows so much freedom with Touhou, and this guy just steals Shibayan works and claims it as his own and never gave credit to the song.
Wow. Just stumbled across this and thought this was from one of those video essay channels with highly produced vids. You're criminally underrated man! This vid made me go and binge all your other stuff! Keep it up!
I'm really glad to see a video being made on this, it's so annoying seeing people credit them instead Shibayan Records. I also think something similar happened with Young Girl A.
Yeah, Paranoia Another case is Dragonfruit Salad, though at least the artist admitted in the comment section of the OG song that they sampled a bit too close to the OG and promised to sample more ethically next time Edit: Also the Young Girl A/Paranoia situation is even more egregious because Siinamota's/powapowa-p's songs were his personal vents and he has passed away since 2015 (it's an open secret that his death was speculated to be a suicide due to the contents of his songs, including two of his very last ones, and his last tweet before his death. Officially however, it's never disclosed, probably due to local stigma around mental health topics)
As someone who had no idea about touhou and has listened to the “remix” for a long time, I’m upset it was stolen and I feel like I’ve been lied to due to deadman’s lack of credit. So I’ve been blindly supporting a jackass this whole time and it feels shitty. Anyways I have found I love the original song so much better. I always thought deadman’s version was too short anyway so I’m glad the original is 5 minutes, a proper song length. It also has more musical complexities to appreciate. Thank you so much for the find, also I get to experience a whole new (to me) album and video game now, which I’m excited for. I’ve always loved bullet hell. Thanks xd
See, I never actually heard Omar Wa Mou, in fact I’ve been regularly listening to the Touhou Bossa Nova albums since the second album in 2013. I never knew I was listening to chart topping music this whole time! I hope ShibayanRecord gets some form of compensation or credit for their beautiful song…
Same, I remeber the album being popular in certain places. I think I may've heard Omae as BGM in some vlog, but no idea it became that big a deal. Freaking tiktok fads man.
Took me a while to trace the song to its proper origins back then myself. It’s always painful and hard to not get sour over the injustice done to what had grown to become one of my favorite songs, especially after getting into Touhou myself. But a little more awareness goes a long way to giving the source materials the proper recognition they deserve in the first place. Thanks for your work. P.S: The way I saw it, how far the song got under the guise of a low effort remix could also be a testament to the quality that Touhou’s doujin music can put out. Touhou fan or nah, I think more people can definitely appreciate it and give at least the rest of the album a try, because it really blew me away even past this one song.
Speaking of unauthorized/uncredited sampling or plagiarism, that happens with plenty of Japanese music. Young Girl A got sampled for Paranoia and there was initially no credit for the source until the artist added it, while Dragonfruit got sampled for Dragonfruit Salad. At least for the latter, the artist for it admitted to making it a little bit too similar with the OG and promised to sample more ethically. That being said, All My Fellas may not be one of the examples despite sounding similar to Moonlight because the artist for All My Fellas made a whole video explaining how the song was composed and how different its composition was, though he also admitted he may have been subconsciously influenced by Moonlight
speaking of Young Girl A, that song was made by a deceased producer (Siinamota/Powapowa-P), and as a fan of Powapowa-P's work its just "odd" to me to sample vent work if you get what I mean
@@Giovansbilly In my honest opinion, I think that TikTok's the blame on why Young Girl A got that much recognition in the west, I just hope that most of the people are aware of the songs meaning and actually gave a listen to the other non-mainstream vocaloid works. "Astronauts" is one of my favorite powapowap works, it's a long song (7:21) but it's one of the works that changed my life for the better, speaking of other songs, the English server for project sekai will add powapowap songs (Q, Strobe Light and Pallette that I can't remember the rest of the title), so I can see Young Girl A part 2 happening in the near future.
@@akitouyer yeah, even though I personally almost never use Tiktok. I feel it was Kentenshi's sampling of Young Girl A for Paranoia and its use on Tiktok that make people, including non-Vocaloid fans, discover Young Girl A. Then most associate it with "edginess" because they hear Paranoia and its usage on "edgy" contents first, or because they listen to Young Girl A without bothering to read or understand the translated lyrics or knowing the backstory behind its producer
i hope this goes viral, people need to know the truth. i got so f-ing pissed when i found out about this stuff back in 2020. shibayan makes great music, i love listening to their tracks from time to time.
It's pretty crazy when you think about it. He sold it on the Google play store, Amazon, and iTunes. The intent to steal and profit from plagiarized work is just screaming at you. And ZUN could just make a cut-and-dry case if had he decided to take legal action
Shibayan Records creates some truly great music and arrangements! Thank you for this video, it’s nice to have an explanation on this topic and giving the rightful credit. The Touhou community is really special.
I remember being so disapointed by the Omae Wa Mou track being so tiny, i had to wait 1+ year to find Tiny Little Adiantum. I was happy too when I saw that Deadman credited Shibayan Records in the title, dang. Thanks for posting about it, I don't really want to forget about what happened to this music, since I love it so much now !
When I first heard the remix I knew it wasn't the original. I was relatively acquainted with Shibayan's work at the time so I had a good idea where to look. I was very delighted to find the original arrangement and easily became one of my favorites. It's very unfortunate many other people are entirely unaware to this day due to the lack of publicity on the plagiarism.
I've always had the knowledge in my head that Tiny Little Adiantum was the original and the context needed. But I was terrible at explaining it properly, so this video is perfect at explaining what the drama was and the issues I have with deadman due to what he did
The Deadman "remix" is how I was introduced to Shibayan as well. I was pretty disgusted to learn that the song was essentially shamelessly stolen from Shibayan. And it infuriated me to absolutely no end to see that most people that use the song "prefer" the Deadman "remix", and even credit them as the "original artist". While an utterly disgusting situation, this did lead me to discovering Shibayan after all. And Shibayan is now my #1 most listened to artist for 3 consecutive years (2021, 2022 and 2023). So, something good came out of that. p.s. Shibayan's Bossa Nova isn't as good as their older electronica stuff. Magico Catastrofe, Adrastea, Kokoro Vibration, Assortment of sense - genuinely amazing albums that I highly recommend people check out.
Thank you so much for making this, tiny little adiantum is my favourite touhou arrange and it pissed me to no end that some guy took the song and added a miniscule amount of change and have the gall to call it a "remix", a lot of undeserved fame and profit that should have gone to shibayan records, I hope that this video becomes viral and more people become aware of this
Thanks for this video, I was always frustrated that this information wasn't out there while hearing a remix that was just fresh-weeb bait. When my little sister showed me the Deadman mix of the song back then, I was super confused because I had already been listening to Shibayan for quite some time and it was something just a little bit different but not quite. Dunno why I didnt tell her that it was kinda stolen, maybe I didn't want to be a know-it-all. I love Shibayan Record's work and I've been listening to their arranges for so long, since 2015. I can't pick any favorite songs but if you want my recommendations for ear candy, these are some of the arranges I like the most: オズネイ・ハマンはもういらない (I Don't Need Any Oznei Haman Anymore) GAZE IT 紅涙にしづむは供人の憂い (That Which Sinks in Crimson Tears is Her Companion's Melancholy) シンデレラは魔法使い (Cinderella Is A Magic User) アナタガモトメルモノ (That Which You Are Seeking) 月齢11.3のキャンドルマジック (Lunar 11.3 Candle Magic)
Thank you for spreading the word. I had no idea about this originally being a touhou song! I used to love the song and the weird Minecraft parrot video, but I actually used to wonder why the Fist of the North Star sample felt so out of place and the drum beat felt so much more low quality than the rest of the song. Now I know :') time to go support the original. Btw I'm only just starting to get into Touhou bc I find the fandom and history so interesting, but I cannot deal with bullet hell so I'm starting with the fan game Mystia's Izakaya. If any touhou fans have suggestions for good non-stressful games lmk~
Thank you for shedding light on parts that I did not know, which was everything other than Omae Wa Mou being based off Tiny Little Adiantum. I will now go enact justice upon the injustices
Thank you for making this, I'm currently training to make music and I would honestly be heartbroken if this happened to me, I feel so bad for the creators
I love Shibayan Records and collectively the Tohou project at large for the amazing music that I was able to find years ago. One of the most amazing genre's of music I have ever heard in my life. I knew about this alternate version, but did not know that this person went as far as to not even bother crediting and even selling a copy of the song this way. Truly upsetting.
I wish this video came out just a little sooner as just before it was released I was writing a paper on copyrights and related topics with this story being in my mind but I couldn’t find much of any of the original sources to what happened. This was a few months ago and made this video sort of fitting for me to come across.
Hadn't been for the comment section on some deadman's Omae Wa Mou reupload about the original song's source, I wouldn't even know about Tiny Little Adiantum's existence.
I've always been facinated by Touhou because you come across it a lot as an anime fan. I've never taken a closer look past Bad Apple. Thanks for making a great video on such a tragic tale. But most of all thanks for showing me the original.
Really good video. Kind of wish I thought to make it LOL. Thanks for covering it though - seriously. This is the kind of Touhou content I like to see. As an aside, I've seen a piano arrangement where the creator chose to keep the title as omae wa mou even after acknowledging the situation (several people asked for it to be changed). Even though a piano version of omae wa mou would be exactly the same as a cover of the original song. And they kept it like that solely because it would bring more views. I used to watch their channel a lot, but I lost respect for them from that alone.
thanks for spreading awareness of this! i love shibayan's work and i think tiny little adiantum was my introduction to them. wasn't even aware of the plagiarized version
I've been listening to Shibayan Records for awhile now. I remember first discovering them through a remixed version of Desert Years in SoundCloud. I thought that it sounded cool, so I dug through their discography in Spotify to find more weeks later. I then found that "One song" and thought it was familiar, then I found out that it's actually quite popular hearing it in social media sites awhile before. I'm glad I discovered it from the source straight away rather than hearing Deadman's version first and possibly not discovering Shibayan Records and their goldmine of songs.
Damn really interesting story, why is your channel so unpopular, not even 400 subs? Nice and pleasant voice, good video structure and you explain everything in good detail; very nice video!
I was quite triggered by the fact that few people knew this thing, knowing myself how complicated it is to make a good song (10 years of drums and 4 of piano on my side and they don't always turn out well) especially using bossanova for a modern theme. That aside, great video, you couldn't have done it better! 👍
I’ve been listening to Shibayan since before Omae wa mo and I was at first happy that they were getting more attention until I found out that they were not credited at all
As a Yuuka Kazami enjoyer I am deeply onfended for this cultural appropriation. I hug my giant Yuuka dakimakura in rage when I see a tik tok dance using Shibayan work.
It's so cool to find this video so early after upload, Shibayan records has been a huge part of my music through all 2023, getting N°1 spot in my most listened artists, I love the songs and I basically play them every day now. I found about Shibayan because of the Omae wa mou meme (Yes I call it a meme, because I don't think of it as a remix) when I was trying to find some music I played on 2017 when the minecraft parrots video was popular. I wanted to get the original piece and when I realized that 1, the lack of the "Omae wa mou" line was basically the only difference and 2, there was a whole album; so I thought "Huh? interesting" After that I just wanted to hear more of this Shibayan Records artist and this music aparently coming from Touhou. I ended discovering some amazing music that I ended up obsesed with. After a while of not thinking about it too much, a bit of curiosity came to me when I tried to talk about the artist to some friends. To my surprise, almost nobody knew about "Tiny little Adiantum" or "Shibayan Records", but everyone remembered the Minecraft Parrots and the "Omae wa mou" video, which was a little frustrating at first but I never understood the reason for the difference. It's cool to have a short, informative and good video about a current interest (obsession) that came just a couple days ago.
I remember this from before I was a Touhou fan. I’ve always feverishly advocated for Tiny Little Adiantum over “Omae wa Mou” since I could remember. Hearing about just how profusely Shibayan got shafted is infuriating. Tiny Little Adiantum is a wonderful cover in its own right and I always hated hearing the “Omae wa mou” whenever I was expecting Tiny Little Adiantum
@@lizm2469 wdym “how?” There were the content ID issues, and there are people to this day who still don’t know about Tiny Little Adiantum. They still associate the song with deadman and his shitty, low-effort “remix.” What use is popularity if the original artist still struggles to benefit?
@@YoshikoJanai and Deadman was the one who got it fixed. you act like Deadman himself was copyrighting Shibayan. If people don’t know the original when it’s been credited for just as long as the remix came out , that’s a reading comprehension issue or maybe, they just prefer the remix? you’re gonna tell me TLA had 18m views before? Shibayan is not struggling to benefit at all…
@@lizm2469 congrats, he fixed a mistake that should have never happened. Deadman openly shit on Touhou and ZUN’s absolutely gracious licensing terms while also shirking responsibility towards Shibayan for years. This is the whole “muh exposure” argument
The entire problem reminds me of another song being stolen. Basically there’s a song of Ievan Polka being sang by Hatsune Miku, and you can’t upload it since it will get copyright claimed by an artist called Busy Signal, on their song Sports Day. The song is literally the miku song, but the guy makes noises over it. He is able to now copy claim anything that has the original song he stole. I first learned about it from 2 videos that were copyright claimed by it. Both of the videos (puyo puyo music videos) came out before the song.
I remember hearing about this a long time ago when the song first became popular because of that guys rap with it. I eventually made my own English cover of the song if you scroll back far enough on my channel, it's pretty old at this point. I even added the words Tiny Little Adiantum at the end of my cover out of respect to the original song. Glad to see someone addressing it!
It’s seriously frustrating to see such a lovely Touhou remix get butchered like this. Thank you for spreading the word about this and giving Shibayan the respect they deserve.
It's amazing how many people found Touhou and the entire world of Touhou remixes because of this. Also the original songs have always deserved more love, and it's great to see them getting it. All of this has really affected the community in a positive way. It sucks this is how it happened, but the people who found their way to Touhou through this have all come in with the mindset of appreciating the original, as opposed to how Undertale fans came in seeing it as inferior. So really this had a happy ending!
Thank you and god bless you for the video and amount of traction this video is gaining, im so happy more people are addressing the issue on deadman outright stealing the song. Hopefully more people get to know about this issue and shibayan records manage to get credit for the original song.
Good video, I knew the story already, but it's nice to see someone finally cover it, there's some few mistakes though First, doujinshi (to my knowledge) only refers to doujin print works, not any doujin media Doujin circles is a term outside Touhou refereng to doujiin groups It's not callef Yuuka's theme, but "Gensokyou, Past and Present ~ Flower Land" And lastly though I agree the changrs in omae wa mou are minimal, you forgot to say he also cut the song, not saying it makes it any better though
finally someone in english community talks about this , a chilean youtuber named derker bluer made a video of it like 2 years ago , but today english speakers still praise the creator of the song , thanks so much.

FINALLY SOMEONEADE A VIDEO ABOUT THIS!!! its was incredibly frustrating to see deadman's "remix" become so popular that shibayan couldn't post their own song
no I'm sure that it has been done years before. I even thought that this video itself is a reupload
Deadman even tried copyright claiming shibayan's song, thankfully it didn't work and eventually he had to give credits. Unfortunately the damage is already done and his version is more well known than Tiny Little Adiantum.
What’s funny is that I’ve only ever heard Tiny Little Adiantum, and never heard of this deadman remix until this vid
@@jaxomvienonensame lmao
I still prefer the remix to the original. The original just sounds like any other Japanese song, but the remix has got that Western flair.
There's a damn near similar identical occurrence with the pimp Named slickback remix, all some kid did was add some Roblox sounds and it went from Underground to Super popular tiktok song
Lets call this what it was: it was plagiarism.
Deadman claimed the track as his own work and profited from it, even attempting to block Shibayan from uploading their own work.
A massive shame.
as a Touhou player, this feels me with rage like no other
It's a sample, which many genres base their music off of; It's like saying Biggie Smalls or Tyler, The Creator plagarise their music. It's unfortunate how RUclips's copyright system works but that's not the remixer's fault. Not to mention that the remix falls under fair use, at least under American law.
@@OrangeYTT He 'sampled' the entire song you disingenuous slime.

What about Fist of the North Star? Surely whoever owns that has lawyers.

ZUN should at lease try to get deadman’s “remix” taken down, and united masters should get sued as well.
It's heartbreaking how shit can just get stolen by this from basically one guy who couldn't give a shit to properly credit or acknowledge the original creators or reimburse them
Also, besides the 5000 dollars, couldn't there be other monetization or credit towards Deadman? It's scummier than just 5000 IMO
the guys more lucky he didn’t get sued into the ground by shibayan or ZUN to a extent because they had full legal capability to do so.
Just like Caramelldansen
@@Robeebert or a lot of the guys remixing Siinamotas music, worst part is that he is deceased.
Ah so that's why back then Shibayan doesn't have any song on streaming except their original stuff
To this day, I still kind of hate the creation of the TDMD, because it fucked up a lot of youtube uploads. I'm glad he did something like this, but I can't stand how much it's fucked up sharing Doujinshi music for touhou, harder to find the good stuff like I used to back in the day.
Yeah the remnants of "Omae Wa Mou" nice try RUclips Content ID
man I'm kinda pissed at deadman 1000x already but yeah I'm even more pissed if I see that album cover

For me, back then when i first heard omae wa mou, for some reason i felt cringe. I cant imagine how frustrating this was for the folks at Shibayan, their music has always been so good 😢
Never stopped bothering me as well.

To see some outsider weeb tourist come and spit on the culture of trust and respect around Touhou Project, and especially ShibayanRecords for their own personal gain is just fucking disgusting.

as a brazilian (and also a bossa nova fan), it's really cool to see that one of our best music styles is still recognized around the world, especially because this genre has lost relevance here in brazil.
but I gotta make a confession, I unfortunately... only discovered about shibayan because of deadman, and I initially thought the arrange was his...

I like seeing how creative sampling can get, but for every 1 great song that utilizes sampling there’s like 5 tasteless songs out there
Indeed, plenty of people think "sampling = plagiarism" when they aren't synonymous, but those lazily sampled songs run close to plagiarism
There's 2 things that I learned whilst watching this video.
deadman is a thief bastard
and you can take a really simple topic and make them lengthy.
This is fantastic, credit truly deserves to the hard working. You are one of them, stay strong bro!
I appreciate that!
Rip alice margtroid channel, you will forever be missed.
Wow. Just stumbled across this and thought this was from one of those video essay channels with highly produced vids. You're criminally underrated man! This vid made me go and binge all your other stuff! Keep it up!
Thanks man, I appreciate it a lot. Unfortunately I think my lamp video is my only other video on the same production quality, but more to come soon!
im a huge touhou fan and ive been troubled by how deadman just ripped it from shibayan and barely added anything. thanks for making this video
he was like 16/17 when he made the remix … lol and got it cleared…
I'm really glad to see a video being made on this, it's so annoying seeing people credit them instead Shibayan Records.
I also think something similar happened with Young Girl A.
Yeah, Paranoia
Another case is Dragonfruit Salad, though at least the artist admitted in the comment section of the OG song that they sampled a bit too close to the OG and promised to sample more ethically next time
Edit: Also the Young Girl A/Paranoia situation is even more egregious because Siinamota's/powapowa-p's songs were his personal vents and he has passed away since 2015 (it's an open secret that his death was speculated to be a suicide due to the contents of his songs, including two of his very last ones, and his last tweet before his death.
Shibayan cleared it 5+ years ago and said to go get music equipment & eat good
Shibayan records' bossa nova albums are some of my favorite music of all time, im never gonna forgive this guy.
@@akitouyer indeed, especially if you're aware about his last songs, "Bring Me the Red Pen" and "Healthy End", or his last Tweet before he passed away
@@Giovansbilly In my honest opinion, I think that TikTok's the blame on why Young Girl A got that much recognition in the west, I just hope that most of the people are aware of the songs meaning and actually gave a listen to the other non-mainstream vocaloid works. "Astronauts" is one of my favorite powapowap works, it's a long song (7:21) but it's one of the works that changed my life for the better, speaking of other songs, the English server for project sekai will add powapowap songs (Q, Strobe Light and Pallette that I can't remember the rest of the title), so I can see Young Girl A part 2 happening in the near future.
my apologies if something's wrong it's 2 am in the morning
@@akitouyer yeah, even though I personally almost never use Tiktok. I feel it was Kentenshi's sampling of Young Girl A for Paranoia and its use on Tiktok that make people, including non-Vocaloid fans, discover Young Girl A. Then most associate it with "edginess" because they hear Paranoia and its usage on "edgy" contents first, or because they listen to Young Girl A without bothering to read or understand the translated lyrics or knowing the backstory behind its producer
Thank you for making this video, I hope it gets a lot of views so that more people realize that deadman stole from Shibayan
i hope this goes viral, people need to know the truth. i got so f-ing pissed when i found out about this stuff back in 2020. shibayan makes great music, i love listening to their tracks from time to time.
I wasn't aware of this, I always heard the official Bossa Nova Collection and knew the song as Tiny Little Adantium. Thanks for posting
It's unfair for shibayan
Omg i had no idea this was from touhou im glad i found this video.
It's pretty crazy when you think about it. He sold it on the Google play store, Amazon, and iTunes. The intent to steal and profit from plagiarized work is just screaming at you. And ZUN could just make a cut-and-dry case if had he decided to take legal action
he literally got permission from Shibayan & was told to treat himself to music equipment & good food…
@@lizm2469 wut

But I was terrible at explaining it properly, so this video is perfect at explaining what the drama was and the issues I have with deadman due to what he did
Absolutely fucking disgusting from deadman, absolutely unfair for shibayan, i feel so bad for them.
To be worse… I cannot listen to Yuuka’s theme cover without hearing anime thighs now 💀
The Deadman "remix" is how I was introduced to Shibayan as well.
Assortment of sense and Magico Catastrofe are absolute bangers, but BOSSA NOVA 1 and 2 still hold a special place in my heart.
Glad more people know about this, shiyaban is so talented and they deserve to be recognized
Never heard anything about this Deadman before, thought who is this guy claiming that ShibayanRecords stole someones music. Shibayan GOAT
Thank you so much for making this, tiny little adiantum is my favourite touhou arrange and it pissed me to no end that some guy took the song and added a miniscule amount of change and have the gall to call it a "remix", a lot of undeserved fame and profit that should have gone to shibayan records, I hope that this video becomes viral and more people become aware of this
Shibayan cleared and didn’t want profit
Thanks for this video, I was always frustrated that this information wasn't out there while hearing a remix that was just fresh-weeb bait.
When my little sister showed me the Deadman mix of the song back then, I was super confused because I had already been listening to Shibayan for quite some time and it was something just a little bit different but not quite. Dunno why I didnt tell her that it was kinda stolen, maybe I didn't want to be a know-it-all.
I love Shibayan Record's work and I've been listening to their arranges for so long, since 2015. I can't pick any favorite songs but if you want my recommendations for ear candy, these are some of the arranges I like the most:
オズネイ・ハマンはもういらない (I Don't Need Any Oznei Haman Anymore)
GAZE IT
紅涙にしづむは供人の憂い (That Which Sinks in Crimson Tears is Her Companion's Melancholy)
シンデレラは魔法使い (Cinderella Is A Magic User)
アナタガモトメルモノ (That Which You Are Seeking)
月齢11.3のキャンドルマジック (Lunar 11.3 Candle Magic)
Honestly bro I thought this channel had at least half a million subscribers, it is TRULY underrated for this quality.
aw thanks man, appreciate that.
-makes a lazy remix
-sells it for $5k
-finally adds credits
-refuses to elaborate
I love Shibayan Records and collectively the Tohou project at large for the amazing music that I was able to find years ago. One of the most amazing genre's of music I have ever heard in my life.
I knew about this alternate version, but did not know that this person went as far as to not even bother crediting and even selling a copy of the song this way. Truly upsetting.
THANK YOU, IVE BEEN TRYING TO MAKE OTHERS LOOK AT SHIBAYAN RECORDS BECAUSE ITS A DAMN ORIGINAL
I wish this video came out just a little sooner as just before it was released I was writing a paper on copyrights and related topics with this story being in my mind but I couldn’t find much of any of the original sources to what happened. This was a few months ago and made this video sort of fitting for me to come across.
Touhou music is everywhere, most people just don't notice it.
Hadn't been for the comment section on some deadman's Omae Wa Mou reupload about the original song's source, I wouldn't even know about Tiny Little Adiantum's existence.
Honestly ... I was not aware about this.
Thank you
ive loved shibayan records bossa nova remixes for a while now, but i had no idea this happened! thanks for shining some light on this
when i saw the title i initially misinterpreted it as shibayan records stealing music, but im glad that wasnt the case lol
Fonzi M?
thanks for spreading awareness of this! i love shibayan's work and i think tiny little adiantum was my introduction to them. wasn't even aware of the plagiarized version
Tiny Little Adiantum is my single favorite Touhou-related thing, and it's sad it was at the center of this whole mess.
Wtf I didnt even know this was a touhou song thank you for bringing this up
To clarify, I do know of shibayan but I had no idea of this whole scenario and now this is just like bruh wtf why did he get away with this like that
I love it, Tiny Little Adiantum is being suggested to me now, gonna go listen to it! 👍
I liked that you used the Nether music. :)
That song is so hauntingly beautiful, perfectly captures the hopelessness of survival in that realm.
Yeah, minecraft music is gorgeous

Nice and pleasant voice, good video structure and you explain everything in good detail; very nice video!
as a touhou fan i genuinely thank you for making this video. i hadn't seen any other vids about this song, subbed!
I wanted to get the original piece and when I realized that 1, the lack of the "Omae wa mou" line was basically the only difference and 2, there was a whole album; so I thought "Huh? interesting"
After that I just wanted to hear more of this Shibayan Records artist and this music aparently coming from Touhou.
Also, go hear the Retro Future Girls album right now, believe me, it's really good and you don't loose anything.
I remember this from before I was a Touhou fan. I’ve always feverishly advocated for Tiny Little Adiantum over “Omae wa Mou” since I could remember. Hearing about just how profusely Shibayan got shafted is infuriating. Tiny Little Adiantum is a wonderful cover in its own right and I always hated hearing the “Omae wa mou” whenever I was expecting Tiny Little Adiantum
how’d he get shafted if he cleared it and said he didn’t want profits
@@lizm2469 wdym “how?” There were the content ID issues, and there are people to this day who still don’t know about Tiny Little Adiantum. They still associate the song with deadman and his shitty, low-effort “remix.” What use is popularity if the original artist still struggles to benefit?
@@YoshikoJanai and Deadman was the one who got it fixed. you act like Deadman himself was copyrighting Shibayan.

There's also "fabulous secret powers" you should know it as he man heyeyayayay meme
Good video, I knew the story already, but it's nice to see someone finally cover it, there's some few mistakes though
First, doujinshi (to my knowledge) only refers to doujin print works, not any doujin media
Doujin circles is a term outside Touhou refereng to doujiin groups
It's not callef Yuuka's theme, but "Gensokyou, Past and Present ~ Flower Land"
And lastly though I agree the changrs in omae wa mou are minimal, you forgot to say he also cut the song, not saying it makes it any better though
This makes me sad to hear the news of this remix
finally someone in english community talks about this , a chilean youtuber named derker bluer made a video of it like 2 years ago , but today english speakers still praise the creator of the song , thanks so much.
bossanova is such an awesome genre
