Shades, Shanks here. I’m really happy that you’ve reached the top of Catan in your country, making it to the final. You deserve it because of your skill and everything you've done for the competitive scene. You’ve shown great knowledge and wisdom both in the game and outside of it, with your words in this video and also in the Reddit thread. Take care, my friend.

Congrats Josh! Your run in the event was amazing! To reach the finals in probably the hardest catan tournament ever makes your skill undeniable. I think even more amazing than that is the courage you showed in sharing your feelings. As someone who has sometimes struggled with similar things, I know how hard it can be to do that. I'll also admit that it made me a bit emotional. I hope one day I can reach your catan skill and your emotional maturity! P.S. Hope the grammar is fine, english is not my 1st language.

Gg Josh! You had a great run. We had a great final game in Ithaca and happy at least 1 of us won. Stung for me pretty bad, but I will get my chance soon!
You had an amazing run at nationals and seems like you have grown a lot as a player through out the whole experience.
Very happy for you and GL in your future Catan endeavors!

      P.s
We have around 200 players in our nationals, 3 preliminary rounds you need 2 wins and 28 points with high table % points, a lot of 28 points guy's didn't get in

Thanks for sharing! I'm sending a virtual hug! If you come back to Ithaca to qualify for next year please give me a heads up! It would be great to see you again AND I'll plan to attend other tournaments to try to qualify, since I'd have no chance of beating you in Ithaca! LOL But on a serious note...like I said during our game in Ithaca when you were offering an 8 for 2 trade to help another player build to take longest road from me.....NORMALLY (playing with family) that would lead to arguing/bad feelings/long term grudges....but because you were so nice/pleasant earlier in the game I didn't take it personally...I even respected the hustle! My point being that your study/usage of the social aspect/strategy of Catan is really remarkable and is something to be admired/respected!

@@aliendeer1294 I COMPLETELY forgot about that 8:2 offer 🤣 I think I remember now that the player had 3 settlements and we were so desperate because you had such strong wood / brick + ports that it felt unwinnable (I was trying to build only settlements and cities for my points)
Then I’m like “the only way he has it is a VP” and you pull it 😫
To be honest, if i ever do travel up to New York again, it would probably be to play in a much bigger event (for the experience of the players) rather than to try to earn a qualification. The expense of travel was just too much, and it was only done out of limitations to what qualifiers were left. Not to say I didn’t enjoy my time with y’all , I definitely did! I think I’ll have to stick to west coast just for my wallet and sanities sake.
And yes. At that stage of the game, putting you from 9 to 7, me who is still on 7, and that player on 3 to 5, is exactly what I was referring to with playstyle / board balance. It sounds absurd, but it pulls us all closer into having a chance! That’s the important distinction between something like that and kingmaking someone to the win.
I appreciate your kind words. I think you can definitely qualify if you keep up the practice!

I would also agree that they shouldn't place 0 wins with players with 2 wins. When this happens in MTG Drafts, since they can't win any boosters and you can win an extra 3 for 3 wins. I usually ask before the match if they want to agree a win for me n matter what and i'll give them a booster so they get something from the event at least :D However, MTG Drafts this rarely happens, its usually someone with 2 wins vs another player with 2 wins, so in that case, we agree a draw lol and both get 5 boosters instead of one getting 7 and the other getting 3.

Watched you in both the semi and the final. From my pov, you held your own and deserved to be there. That semi was close. Was it the same sonny you met again in the final? That must have been interesting. Please do share your thoughts on both the semi and the final.
    Peace

Yep, same Sonny. And given that was not only the most recent game I had played, but the only other game I had played with him, I was definitely a bit apprehensive in the finals, even moreso when he lied about mono 🤣
I appreciate the kind words. Expect a full break down and analysis from both me and other creators on semis / finals soon!
