Good Eurovision performance from Mary in 1970.
This was the runner-up to the worthy winner, Ireland's Dana with 'All Kinds Of Everything.
A quote from co-writer of 'KKWT' John Carter ... 'I think Mary Hopkin regretted Eurovision. She didn't want to do it and was talked into it. I don't think she liked the record.'

At the time preferred all kinds of everything but as the years have passed ive come to realise just HOW GOOD this was and is and should have won it
Agreed - Mary Hopkin was robbed.
Thief trapped in building brought me here I heard "Those Were The Days" as a kid, and I'm just now hearing this tune at 54? What planet was I on all those years?
Same Thief brought me here to,first heard this in 1970 when I was a 11years old great to hear it again.
Me too! 😂
😂😂
I had to look into it because I thought it sounded like Annie Haslam from Renaissance. I was wrong. A very beautiful voice nonetheless.
😂
I'd forgotten how stunning Mary was. Stunning voice. Stunning looking. Stunning.
im in awe, she is so beautiful, and she sings like a nightingale...
@@stephenowens354 Free Speech excuse me ;)
@@stephenowens354 wow....... calling someone beautiful is now sexist?

@@karyluhernandez5966 Hello Karylu, quite agree with you and same goes for Dana. Kind regards Glynn n greetings from Stourbridge West Midlands UK 🤝
How sweet and innocent these songs were back in 1970 - Dana, Mary Hopkins, I grew up on their music and it is fun going back in time and bringing back such wonderful memories of a time when the world was less complicated.
Mary Hopkin
Why don't we get such singers now.... epitome of simplicity... no extraeffects
shiv sehgal No AutoTune🧐
Someone should get a new music studio and get more beautiful music again.
Too much garbage rap.
That quality of tune, is timeless and rare.
This is when the Eurovision Song Contest as it was known then, actually had some credibility
All we have is crap now a days
Even as a boy of six back in 1970 I was mesmerized by Mary's beauty. Watching this in colour for the first time. We had a black and white telly back in 1970.
The words make sense to me now as a man of 61 who never found the one.
this is so great! I love it, she's was very beautiful too...
What a fantastic voice
High notes with no stress
Just love the Welsh
You Young ladies of today should
Emulate the standard if you can
Why This song is so UNDERRATED?
The counter for the door not being there and certain people dying in the game once the power got stolen 😂 they used covid bat situation with braveheart fusion situations 😂
Love Mary Hopkin. My dad says me and my sis sound just like her. Wish I could have been a singer in this era. The days when you didn't have to dress sexy and you could still feel it when wearing a long black dress. That dress is gorgeous, and she looks and sounds amazing!
One of the best British songs in the whole ESC.
OMG! bring back those 70's PLEASE
RUclips does this for us!
This song and performance has aged so much better then all kinds of everything, great performance.
I always liked Mary Hopkin's music. She was a terrific folk singer.
She could certainly deliver a song. A great performer
I love this woman...this era...this epoch...this realm.
I am a Judith Durham fan but always loved Mary Hopkins marvelous, clear, and touching voice as well. She always has been an exciting performer. What a voice!
Thanks Mary
Hopkin. No 's'!
What a lovely songbird.
She hated this song. She regretted going on Eurovision and singing it.
I never tire of her beautiful voice no matter what the song.
She makes my heart swoon.
knock knock whos there! it's me coming to see the most beautiful girl in the world
What a stunning voice ...
I loved hearing this song on the radio in the 70's, it was a reminder of simple times
I remember this as a kid, Mary had a very unique voice
A world full of simple, beautiful charm so far removed from our sad world of today
These lovely old song what a joy to hear them again brilliant
Lovely Mary; what a beautiful folk voice.
krystyna , sandy denny had a nice voice as well and was on a led zep album as Robert plant liked her

lol
those were the days of a real Eurovision song contest...and RIP..THE BEST TERRY WOGAN..
+stella david the real eurovision died with orchestra in 1999...
I AGREE WITH YOU..SPECIAL DAYS,TALENT OF EVERYONE!
Stella David This was years before Wogan got involved.
Eurovision died in 1998. That was the last decent edition. Then everything got fucked up 🙇🏻♂️.
what a lovely lady she sings awesome
Simply superb! My favourite 60s female singer. The good old clean days. Those Were The Days... Yes!
An absolute staple on New Zealand radio in the70s. awesome.
Tears of rain run down my window pane
I'm on my own again, good evening, sorrow
Sit and dream of how things might have been
And as I close my eyes, I get the strangest feeling
Knock, knock, who's there?
Could this be love that's calling?
The door is always open wide
Knock, knock, who's there?
Now, as the night is falling
Take off your coat and come inside
Climb the stair and then I say a prayer
For someone who could share my situation
But instead as I lay down my head
I have to leave it all to my imagination
Knock, knock, who's there?
Could this be love that's calling?
The door is always open wide
Knock, knock, who's there?
Now, as the night is falling
Take off your coat and come inside
La, la-la, la-la-la, la, la-la
La-la-la, la-la, la, la-la-la, la, la
La, la-la, la-la-la, la, la-la
La-la-la, la-la, la, la-la-la, la, la
Sit and dream of how things might have been
And as I close my eyes I get the strangest feeling
Knock, knock, who's there?
Could this be love that's calling?
The door is always open wide
Knock, knock, who's there?
Now, as the night is falling
Take off your coat and come inside
Ah, ah, ah
Take off your coat and come inside
Thank you❤
No one else has that beautiful sound her voice does- love this song!
As far as her music is concerned, "Those Were The Days" is my favorite.
I have listened to this song for for going on 43 years now.
I had this song on a 45 rpm back in the 70's. I was 12 years old and it was one of my favorite songs! It's stuck in my head all of my life and I just found it. I'm so happy! I never knew who sang it - thank you Mary!!
Great song, from a great singer, should not have been runner-up should have been the winner for that year.
simply simple and utterly fabulous vocal.
Beautiful voice and indeed a beautiful appearance too!
Just a stunning looking woman with an even more stunning voice. I'm surprised Paul didn't continue writing tunes for her after producing "Those Were The Days" and writing "Goodbye".
Forgot how great she was....reminds you of how talent free it is now.
Neil Kerr ~ You mean talentless!
She is you mean
@@kentcyclist She's alive& well yes 😊
Yes. I remember her tunes in the late 1960's, "Those Were The Days," and "Goodbye." She reminds me of Crystal Gayle; talent, charm, charisma and the ease in which she performs a song. Very sweet and attractive.
brilliantly catchy Eurovision tune ...amazing vocals as always by Mary
Have great memories of 1970 and songs as simple and lyrical as this, must have impressed European audience's to finish runner up in the contest. Jointly written by two of the UKs most talented singer, songwriters. John Carter part of the Ivy League, and First Class, Geoff Stephens part of the New Vaudeville Band who had a number one hit in the US, in 1966.
Mary Hopkin was a class act in the late 60s early 70s, and had the hits to prove it.
Todays music offers nothing by way of a comparison to this type of song.
And rare sight is the two male backing singers, who might be the songs writers.
Some years ago I heard an interview on a local BBC radio with John Carter, who came across so modest and understated on the musical legacy he has left for fans of 60s and 70s music
The 1970s good years with Mary Hopkin Knock Knock Who's There
Whether Mary liked the song or not, she sang it with gusto!! Great!
A única cantora do mundo quê cantA com oleos
This song strongly moves my heart... A lost love far away....
I have never heard this song before. I like it, it is very spirited.
Sweet Mary Hopkin. I remember her mellow voice during the wild times of late 60s. early 70s
Incredibly beautiful girl with an incredible voice and whatever she sang she sounded natural, what a talent shame todays artists are not as good as those In the 60's and 70's
WHY talk about her looks you put down any girls who dont conform but have better talent ??
@@stephenowens354 I havnt put down anyone it's my personal opinion which I am entitled too thank you
@@stephenowens354 so..... nowadays it's a crime to appreciate someone's beauty? Huh?
@@stephenowens354 he said beautiful and Talented...... wheres the murder?
*A perfect voice. No auto-tune in them days - just good old fashioned talent*
Autotune is an ABOMINATION! Those needing it should not be allowed anywhere near a recording studio. It's a mockery and insult to people who have
natural correct pitch singing talent. No only were you required to sing in tune
in that era you needed to have a SIGNATURE voice that set you apart from other signature vocals. Example: Olivia Newton John, Rita Coolidge, Jennifer Warnes, Mary Hopkin, etc. The music industry has destroyed itself by allowing great pretenders and talent mocking buffoons to populate the airwaves. When
everyone is a star no one is!
@@cinematic35 Gonna cry?
This reminds me of such a happy time in my childhood. Now approaching the upper end of my 40s, I still have her music. What a voice!
I echo your sentiments Jenny
A great tune. I was 12 years old at this time, and I had a huge crush on Mary. A beautiful woman with a sweet voice.
wonderful song, wonderful voice, wonderful girl! mary hopkin has the sweetest voice! :)
Loved this one from my childhood...
I like it. Mary also gave it her all in this performance. She may not like the song so much but she did OK it for the inclusion on the Apple CD "Those Were The Days" greatest hits.
She had to - it reached #2 in the UK.
Wow!...trip down the ol lane...how music has changed..i see She is 70 now...and still as beautiful i bet..
a voice known all over the world her song was sang for years
Superb singer, beautiful girl .... great song this was.
she is so adorable!
Beautiful voice, clear as a bell.
she was a pretty babe {probably still is} with a gorgeous voice.x.
What a pretty Welsh beauty she was!
she still is
She has a beautiful voice
james milne ....... What part of Wales is she from ?
@@radiogramgramophonetoons5802 Pontardawe, just outside Swansea.
D M .......... I remember my younger sister buying her records on 45rpm back in the late 1960s, I wasn't at all interested to her records as I was into other stuff like David Bowie and Cat Stevens. Now I'm 64 years of age (going on 19). Mary Hopkin over the years has 'grown-on -me', not only beautiful but a lovely voice.
Then I heard her on the soundtrack to the first 'Blade runner' movie, brilliant. So now I am an old man and funnily enough living in Wales.
Today being the day that the great Val Doonican has passed-away I am reminded of the deceptively simple music made by these massively talented entertainers of the past - seemingly effortless talent, yet anything but effortless to master.
Kids - this is a live voice. Real singing. No lip-sync. And a fucking great song. (Oops, sorry about the language, kids! :P ) Love it!
Bk94541 then why you are here?
To fucking hear it, adrian, that's why! ^_^
Martin your BANG on mate at 63 now I look back and think WOW what a decade..the 70s
Firstly I will apologise to mr. Vladimir Vladimirovic whose favourite chess player is Anatoli Karpov. Once upon a time I have had a feeling as young teenager that wherever I knock it remains closed. My mind was occupied by thinking of all the music which is mine, which is all the music. And other things. So mi chess talent remained hidden for everyone. And this was a source of pain to me. Had I have any chance to try anything my chess would have became better everyday and I wouldn’t have need to play it after one weak’s time. But life in. Yugoslavia was difficult, and this was craziest country in the world. Goldfinger Fort Knox the part of bible with knocking and opening. There is no mechanism that would make possible a payment for the Originator. Even the word is not known. Authors yes, originators no. Anatolij has used a situation to much when my focus was dispersed taking computational power of the UNIVERSE for himself and leaving me far from the idea that I my have even some moderate talent for chess. Otherwise I might even could have get lucky with girls. People here write simple, are showing admiration. It is nice to see all that.

I might even leave Karpov my old friend alone, in which case I have apologised from no reason to Vladimir Valdimirovic, only the reason that Boby resined could be annulated in the past. If I find a way to become interesting for girls than who care for chess. Merry Hoping was avare that Greek language gives impression to ave higher frequencies than other from the group like: hindi, plali, telengu, All Iranian and Indian languages. If people that can not read music notes sing as a choir they tend to fallow higher musical line. Some baritones will sing as tenors, and not the other way round. Other baritones will take tenors’ line a little lover. And not know baritones’ line,9 which might have some deviation from tenors‘ one. Not just be parallel with it. So higher pitch wins, I call that impitcment😊. I have chosen Greeks to be there to be helped by my nation to acquire culture. Mary has lived in Greece and Northern Europe when i have explained all that to her. Not the secret any more, this thing. If you pay attention on her performance and take into consideration my words you might agree. But then know. World crisis can not be solved while forgetting the solvers.

Love Love Love from India. We dont get such songs and singers anymore. Simplicity and innocence lost forever. We grew up in a much much nicer world.
This song really takes me back to my childhood! I never thought I'd hear it again!
those were the days Mary we don't forget your great songs
This was my favourite song as a child I loved it
Great, unique voice, stunning, sweet girl next door looks. A real heart breaker, without intending to be. Totally captivating.
She absolutely hated the song, apparently, but like a champion and class act, she gives this a stellar performance. We love you, Mary. Thank you for all the gorgeous melodies and timeless memories.
She may not like the song, but her voice is beautiful! :-)
Mary sings with such felling and grace.
The songs she sings all have meaning.
We need more singers like her.
so pretty both song and singer.. should really have won in 1970.
Better than Dana that's for sure and Im Irish

Such a brilliant voice, it's a miracle ....
She turns away after saying knock, knock, who's there. Like turning towards the door. Clever.
This is great, so beautiful - a really english folk sound....So much better than that urban ghetto sound that black and white seem to have to do today. There is an innocence and integrity to this matched by her beauty.
