I’m not exactly sure why “Ode to the Mets” hits me so hard. When I first heard this I was in a terrible place, I was feeling so down and as if I had all these emotions I wanted to feel but couldn’t. When I got to the song I was loving it but no feeling ecstatic about it, but then came the last 1:30 of “Ode to the Mets” and it was a climax but for the album and for me, I felt so emotional with that last verse that my memory of it has become ingrained in my mind. Maybe I don’t like the song itself but what it did for me.
Im a big fan of this album. I feel like Ode to the Mets gives you the feeling of something always being there for you even though it’s disappointed you before. I think it’s one of the most beautiful pieces of music I’ve ever heard. Always glad to see someone enjoying new strokes music
When I first heard Ode to the Mets, I thought "I've definitely heard this chord progression before, but this is how I've always wanted it to be played".
YESS. Finally. To me personally it's the album of the year. Hands down. And I say that as a huge Tame Impala fan. But -The Slow Rush- The New Abnormal just does everything right for me, I love it. Can't wait to get into your reaction #6. Edit: Whoops, talking about Tame Impala made me accidentally praise the album I liked less lol
Depends on the music category. To be honest, despite living the record and being super hyped for a good The Strokes album after First Impressions Of Earth and Comedown Machine, it didn't have the long-lasting effect on me that Is This It or Room On Fire had. Still an excellent album which I hold dearly, but not nearly as impactful as their earlier work. On another note, I feel like Freddie Gibbs' newest record Alfredo deserves a mention in the album of the year discussion (I don't know if you were talking about indie rock or in general, I assume you were speaking of indie music because of the Tame Impala reference). The production on Alfredo is top tier, as per usual, and it has a lot of replay value. If we're speaking of indie rock, I'd agree that TNA is the best of 2020 so far.
@@joaopedrofreitas6638 Oh yeah I was just coming from an entirely personal standpoint. Admittedly I currently don't listen to enough artists to have any say in what the objective album of the year would be haha. It's just that as a huge Tame Impala fan I was pretty sure that he would take the cake this year but this album turned me from a Strokes lurker to a fan. Every song works for me. And very well at that. But I'll check out the artist you mentioned, it's always nice to discover some new sounds.
Yet I think it's the worst... well, on a first listen at least. That's the good thing about music I suppose... like life in general. Everyone has a different take. My opinions on everything change over time. These first listens are kinda interesting in that they are genuine initial impressions. I can't fake it.
Its amazing how the sound is something different but they managed to pull it off damn...I had to give it a few listenes but all the songs grew on me and i think its one of the best albums in the last 10 years
Damn! Just found this video, found you through your Travis Scott & Kanye reactions, dope to see you rock with The Strokes too! Absolute best of the best
Ode to the mets is my favorite. The album came out during quarantine and i was stuck at home with my family ( unfortunately ) so i listened to this song on repeat for days and it helped me a lot. i dont know what it is but something about this song hits different for me.
I really enjoyed this record for the most part. My opinion: Top tier: Selfless, Why are Sunday's So Depressing, Not the Same Anymore. Mid tier: Adults are Talking, At the Door, Ode to the Mets Low tier: Bad Decisions, Eternal Summer, Brooklyn Bridge to Chorus. Low tier I'm really not fussed about. Mid tier I like but I'm not mad keen on. Top tier I really think are stellar tracks. This isn't an Is This It level record though for me. I feel the songs lack a bit of direction in theme / lyricism. Could have done with some faster paced / rockier style tracks as well. Can feel a bit too mellow overall. But hey that's just me of course.
@@JAYproductions15 It's a good song. Although now it's been a fair few months since the release of this record I gotta say I'm pretty disappointed overall. I've not found much relistening value in it personally. I love this band, this record just didn't do it for me all in all.
Fun fact homie. The cover art is by the late legendary artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. Luckily I’ve been fortunate to see his pieces in person. Definitely recommend looking into him. Very interesting.
I love it, was waiting for this review, some songs are meh but there are some that blew me away, first listen i didn't really enjoy it but i listened some more and have grown to love it, Ode to the mets is a brilliant song and should take time to grow
I eagerly await the moment as you continue listening to the album when you realize the last track is probably the best track. I'll watch the full version later tonight when I'm ready to have a couple of beers. Very happy to see a Disc-over again. Hope your doing well Six.
Well, maybe. While listening to it again and again while editing the things I didn't like started to become a fading memory. And often the song I dislike most strongly becomes a favourite. We'll see. It's not impossible.
@@mercurialno6 I hear you. Some songs can be like that. I thought the album was good when I first heard it. It has gotten better with each listen to the point where it's probably my album of the year so far.
Hey Mercurial, just found out about your channel and loved it. The reaction to Beach House is priceless. The New Abnormal is my second favorite album of this year (behind Jessie's Ware What's Your Pleasure). But anyway, I wanted to recommend you Weyes Blood's "Titanic Rising". I think you may enjoy it. So I just got this on vinyl but the sound sucks. Some of the guitar parts are super quiet to the point of barely being able to hear them (like the lead on Selfless). Is that just how the vinyl is mixed or did I get a bad copy of the vinyl? That seems to happen sometimes with vinyl but idkwtf
@@mercurialno6 Hmm. I think mine is good, most records play perfectly. I got the Voidz new album too and that plays perfectly. Idk vinyl is a strange thing sometimes. Maybe I'll return it and get another copy.

The Mercurial Number Six actually you might be a genius. Bc I try to put mine back on and it wraps but it’s hard to get rid of the air bubbles lmao! So maybe cutting it was a good choice

The Mercurial Number Six if you haven’t listened to the Voidz yet give them a go. It’s Julian Casablancas other band they are quite good. A bit more experimental than the Strokes I might say
Bloody 'ell, open the damn thing... it's warped now... what the hell is a "Ringo beat"... the drums is the only interesting thing... buying this album was a bad decision... Pink Floyd should sue... the Beatles are overrated... too bad they didn't run out of songs sooner... I'd give it one zero...
