I love the bit where he's singing about the mother, because he's obviously not mocking the post, but rather acknowledging that in between all of the ridiculousness and performative nonsense, the character he's portraying is using the platform as a way of expressing honest feelings, insecurities, pride, and uncertainties. The borders on the screen falling away for that moment symbolizes the opening up of her emotions before they come back at the end of the verse in order to return to the superficial content on the rest of her feed. It's a brilliant bit of vulnerability and compassion in the middle of the satire, which is what Burnham seems to specialize in.
Thank you for saying what I wanted to in a much better way. Bo is genius. Even in a mock silly song he can land an emotional blow that makes you think and cry.
This is such a beautiful song. At no point does he actually criticise or complain about what these women are posting. Bo is known for being a big advocate for women. As you are aware by this point a lot of his songs have a hard hitting point. My interpretation for this one is the reveal when "she" is talking about her mum. There's a real human behind the frivolous posts, with a messy life. Just trying to get by. This is emphasised as the camera ratio zooms out from 'what Instagram sees' if you look around the room its messy, disorganised except for the tiny space where Bo is sitting. Honestly all of Inside is a masterclass in storytelling.
Your reactions are simply the best! I have been watching Bo Burnham reactions ever since "Inside" was released on Netflix. And I find myself rewatching your bo burnham reactions over and over. Hilarious and you just seem to get it! Had to subscribe! Much love!
Your Bo reactions are by far my favorite. You really should watch the whole special! I don't think you'll be let down at all. Although expect it to be a little depressing. During the part where she talks about her mom, the camera angle widens from the Instagram square, and shrinks again when she goes back to listing her accomplishments. I've seen different interpretations - that it's humanizing her and showing that everyone has deeper aspects to themselves you might not see on social media, or to show how social media constricts us, etc.
Right I love that take on it, it really caught me off guard when she talks about her mother, the widening of the angle brought such good emphasis to it
The screen opens up when she talks about her mom because she's opening up about something very personal and real to her. The balloons said 27, she lost both her parents a decade ago,, when she was 17. That's hard.. Then the screen closes back in as she goes back to posting pictures of a goat cheese salad. What Bo is trying to say is that behind every stereotypical basic person, there is a real person with real feelings. Don't judge a book by its cover.
Hey - Just wanted to say I've watched just about every Bo Burnham reaction on here and yours might be my favorite! Also, I feel like your camera set up serves you very well - I mean, we can all afford to improve our lighting, etc., but the way you move around and interact with the camera matches very well with the set-up you've got. Like, I've seen people with way more elaborate set ups that don't look as good as yours. I was watching you last week and realized I was having flashbacks to this video about the Coen brothers: ruclips.net/video/5UE3jz_O_EM/видео.html Anyway, keep up the good work, and Cheers!
Thank you so much! I don’t like being the guy that sits in front of the high quality camera and talk all day, I’m just a very active and enthusiastic person naturally so I couldn’t even force myself to be anything else!
there's some more songs. but yeah, treat yourself to the full special, go see how these fit together. make a review/afterthoughts videos. oh also, white woman
You missed the point on one part of the video. Bo always mixes the bits with a portion of comedy and a portion of seriousness. If you watch the entire thing, you will notice all the parts about instagram are shot in a very small box, to emulate instagram....and when he gets to the part where hes speaking of the womans mother dying, it widens, and this is the serious part. Hes opening up to the audience, to let you get a glimpse into the womans private life and emotions. Hes not mocking at this point, but trying to prove that we can judge and make fun of these cliche instagram posts, but at the end of the day, theres a real person behind them, with problems, emotions and a real life. You are supposed to empathize at this point....and when he finishes the serious part, you notice the shot narrows again, when he resumes talking about instagram posts. Its nothing short of genius once again from Bo.
Yeah I was so annoyed at myself for not noticing it! I did realise the change but I the panning in and out was pure genius! I really was so amazed when I realised after the comments let me know
@@darealdilshan4809 lol yea...i just read the post you are referring to, this morning after you pinned it, and it was posted a month ago. I wish I had read that first and I wouldnt have posted what I did. My fault. Thanks though for replying. Keep up the good work.
can i recommend 2 songs people are sleeping on like crazy and have barely any reactions The Cranberries - So Cold In Ireland & Eyedea & Abilities - By The Throat please react also if you want something funny Ninja Sex Party - Welcome To My Parents House
I think everybody misses the fact that the mother isn’t dead. “Give a hug and kiss to dad” so is the dad dead as well or is it just a phone call? I feel the whole story is a misleading bit to bring you to that spot and then 180 it. Prove me wrong
No, both of her parents are dead and she is saying that they are in heaven together and wh3n she says "give a hug and kiss to dad" it's because they're in heaven together. also I have no idea what you mean by phone call.

This is amazing. You really don’t know what anyone is going through just by their posts. Genius at work!
