      Mikhaila Peterson firstly, sorry your dad has to go through this, it's horrific and at 28 mths off today and still non functioning and homebound with symptoms I know only too well his pain. And the lack of knowledge, validation and complete ignorance from the medical community is nothing short of disgusting.
      However, we all hope that when this ends for your Dad that he takes a stand and uses his experience, knowledge, position and power to fight for all of us that don't have these tools at our disposal as this catastrophe extends to anti-depressants as well and is affecting thousands upon thousands world wide. After recovery, he now has an opportunity to make a difference in people's lives that will be bigger and can be his legacy above and beyond all of his life's work prior to this combined.
      I hope all of us to recover from this.....yesterday!

    Wow. This woman did an absolutely fantastic, concise, ultra-professional, expert job of explaining and clarifying the complex issues involved. I only see her first name: Nicole. Nicole, you did a spectacular public service with your explanation! Wow. You only realize how difficult it is to explain and teach properly when you see someone do it like Nicole. She's one in a million.
    (I happen to enjoy Jordan Peterson a lot, but I've always been puzzled by his uncritical acceptance of neurotoxic psychiatric pharma. I expect that in the future he'll let the public know his thoughts on all of this. I wish him well. I had "panic attacks" one hour before and after each dose. 2 Years later after a too fast tapper off in 1 week in a mental intuition I am doing way better but still have a long way to go. Damage done not recognized by doctors as they try to prescribe me more crap that makes me feel worse despite me actually improving slowly. I no longer bother going to the doctors. A "Benzo Expert" at Aventura Psychiatric hospital in Aventura Florida, took my Mother off of 3mgs of Klonapin cold turkey and she started going crazy and I asked him when she was going to get better and he said that she's already finished withdrawing. This was three days after she stopped. He said her hysteria was her real personality. She suffered a major hemorragic stroke not too long after this. I wish that I could put that man in jail.

      What kills me is, how did the psychiatrist who prescribed the drug not know he was putting his patient in harm's way? I think a lot of the reality of Dr. Peterson's situation is being deflected by his "paradoxical reaction" ...like the problem is that for some obscure reason, his own body caused all the trouble he's endured. That's not the case! He had the paradoxical reaction, but then could not discontinue taking the drug. It was all the horrors that appeared upon attempts at discontinuation that was so problematic.

      @ Noelle: Your comment parallels one I was just about to make...

    • @monadyne
      @monadyne 4 года назад +56

      @Buckshot 87 I think the "duped" component is that neither Dr. Peterson, nor you, nor I were ever told by the prescribing doctor that "this drug will be profoundly helpful to you... for a while. After that, it will cause 'rebound anxiety' greater than what you're experiencing now, and when you try to get off of it, you'll potentially experience unspeakable, unimaginable horrors. Still wanna take it?" That is INFORMED CONSENT, and that's what the bill in Massachusetts wants to insist upon for patients.

    My addiction to Ativan nearly destroyed my life. I didn't even realize I was addicted because I was "only" taking 1-3 mg per day. I took this drug for 6 years. I attempted suicide in 2015. My son was not at all supportive and removed himself from my life. I immediately stopped taking all medications and have been medication free for 4 years. My son and I began talking again 2 years ago. I have come a long way in the past 4 years. The irony for me is that listening to Jordan Peterson lectures and podcasts have helped me immensely. Same (or at least very similar), Paula. Klonopin (clonazepam) for me, only 1 mg daily for a fewmonths. The taper was nearly a year. That sounds crazy, even to me, but the long taper was necessary for me. JBP helped me during the long recovery! His lectures were something positive and motivating, hopeful. I kept hearing his words about 'voluntarily exposing myself to that which scares me' and doing so. (My brain felt damaged, everything was over-stimulating, driving on a busy road was overwhelming, for instance. Freaking nightmare.) Physician to Patient: "Well, perhaps the simplest and quickest way to deal with your issues is for me to prescribe for you a drug called Xanax, a tranquilizer of the benzodiazepine family. Have you ever heard of Valium? Yes? Well, it's like Valium but twenty times stronger. Anyway, if you take it your discomfort will go away instantly, and that can feel like a blessed relief. However, if I prescribe this drug for a long period of time, anything beyond a couple of weeks, you run the risk of 'rebound anxiety' which is anxiety greater than what causes you to take a drug in the first place, and more importantly, the risk of experiencing a hellish, multi-year endless nightmare called 'Benzodiazepine Withdrawal Syndrome' should you ever try to go off the drug. In other words: quick fix, but potentially unimaginable hell ever trying to stop taking the drug. ...Now you're capable of 'informed consent' about whether to take the Xanax or not."

    Excellent Video. I wish I had been taught all this in PA School. I wish at least one of my healthcare providers had known this. I had akathisia for over 6 years with multiple severe symptoms, I would not wish this on anyone. I was abruptly stopped from Klonopin 1mg that I took only at night, only as prescribed, after a back injury, by Shand's in Florida. I was accused of Drug Abuse and the drug was abruptly discontinued. A slow taper is the only Safe Way off these drugs. It is unfortunate that Physicians/Healthcare workers are unaware of how these drugs affect our CNS and how to withdraw people from it. Hopefully this man's suffering will bring this to the forefront for others. I hope the man makes it. I will be 8 years off Klonopin in March 2020. I am hoping to be able to return to work later this year.

      So easy for me to break down in tears reading all of these comments. I am 10.5 months post taper off a benzo. I cold turkeyed another one 1.5 years ago - totally ignorant of the risks. My god. How does this not kill us??? It is an unfathomable torture with no relief. I had akathisia all of 2017 and into mid 2018 when it finally dissipated. The layers of various intense symptoms have also reduced over the years so I am far more hopeful as time moves forward. I hope so much that 2020 will bring noticeable healing to you Bobbi. How can we be injured like this with no legal recourse? Maybe now that a "celebrity" has suffered it can bring the issue into mainstream.

The doctor dropped me immediately 2.5 my neck locked up my body could not move properly. Something was terribly wrong with me and I couldn’t figure it out and I went to every doctor in the world well in my area to try to figure out what was going on the doctor that dropped me and told me that that wasn’t the problem that I was complaining about my neck before they dropped me, I have now become knowledgeable of what my problem is through a rehab place that a doctor that explained things to me so I have been tapering myself down. I’ve got myself to a certain milligram monthly and I’m trying to break free of that and I’m finding it really difficult to do, but I wanted to thank you because you have enlightened me and I see that the only one that understands what I was going through the person on these videos

    Thank you for your work.
    Since my early 20's, I've been prescribed by psychiatrists: benzos for anxiety, antidepressants for depression and anxiety, antiepileptics and antipsychotics for "mood stabilizing" for "possible bipolar disorder."
    While having acute mental health episodes, suicidal at times and uneducated about the risks of the medications, I was frantic to feel sane.
    Made my way through nursing school somehow with this cocktail on board. There, I learned pharmacology.
    I finally found a psychiatrist who insisted on talk therapy (bless her!!!). She has helped me slowly taper off both benzos and antipsychotics, with talk therapy continuing throughout the process. Both withdrawals were difficult but nothing like JP and others have gone through. I am forever grateful that I found her and she knew what she was doing.
    Interestingly, she is much younger than my previous psychiatrists. Maybe the newer generations will buck Big Pharma more than the older generations who were taught to "cure" everything with drugs, then manage side effects with more drugs, and on and on.
    We MUST continue to educate.

    After nearly 20 years of prescribed use, I went to a rehab to try to get off benzos. I was taken off cold turkey and treated as a sud. After 4 days went into debilitating panic with severe stomach flu symptoms. After several days more, while the director of this Juno Beach facility treated me horribly as if I wasn't trying to attend meetings etc. I left and went back on medication. It took a long time to feel as if could function at all but this started another 5 years of tolerance and protracted injury while I tried to find help. I didn't know anything about this withdrawal syndrome. I finally did get off benzos but after a hellish journey with no help from many psychiatrist, trips to psychiatric hospitals; and misdiagnosed problems. I am so angry now about the years I have lost. I still have symptoms that I didn't associate until recently seeing information about this. This is 7 years later with painful neuropathy, cognitive loss, and a changed personality.

      I do not think it is necessarily malpractice - of course it may be. A patient does not take this substance because it is perfect, but because it is the best in the situation. For example, it can be a 10% risk going wrong, with long recovery. But 90% chance that the problem is just solved. It may be rational to take the risk. Of cause, it is understandable to be angry when it goes wrong, but maybe seeing it like this makes it easier to accept, reducing further suffering by anger and frustration (Not informing the patient about the risk may be malpractice)

    I look at the body has little “factories” which produce the complex chemicals by which the body needs to regulate and supports what the body needs to do. Sometimes the factories are not providing enough so a drug is introduced to help. Sometimes because now that chemical is present, the factories get even more lazy and shuts down completely. Then when the drug is removed the factories must be rebuilt and that take time. We know so much but know so little. Dr Peterson is a world Treasure. I am so happy he is recovering. I hope he has not been changed too much by these challenges. Such a fine fine mind. I’m sure he will turn his thoughts inward but then outwardly share then teach us the way as he has always done.

      I like your analogy here. Thing with benzos is that they force unnatural alterations to important structure in the brain and CNS that create a sense of calm. When those structures are altered or damaged there is no surgery or medication to correct it. The person is rendered incapable of feeling any sense of calm due to the reconfiguration forced by these neurotoxins. Benzos were designed to be used only for the very short term - like a few doses maybe. Any longer than that triggers the body to begin making these unnatural alterations to the CNS and brain. You can not artificially tamper with GABAa receptors and expect the body not to respond. It is impossible.

    What you are saying is absolutely true. The doctors should be telling their patients exactly what you are saying. Failure to do so is medical malpractice. In this case, claiming ignorance is no defense. The doctors have spent years in school to get a license to practice and should know what they are doing to their patients. It’s up to the doctors to make their patients aware of this. That’s what their patients are paying for. What you are saying about detox centers is also true. Patients who want to get off benzodiazepines should also be made are of the failures of detox centers. The pharmaceutical companies, the doctors, and the detox centers should be sued for the medical damage that they are causing. My brother called me for help a year and a half ago. I couldn’t believe what I saw when I arrived at his house. Many patients have committed suicide from these drugs and can’t tell others how they felt that led them to suicide. I’ve used Macrobiotic concepts to save my brother’s life especially ginger compresses on his kidneys. You should not have to say that disclaimer to start this video. Your information is medical advice that the doctors should be telling every single patient before they prescribe a single pill. Failure to do so is malpractice.

      Ginger compress is a very simple remedy that I’m giving to my brother. My brother is healing and coming out of financial ruin. Before my arrival, my brother spent $6k on detox facilities that made him worse. His insurance paid 54k of the remaining balance. My treatment is free to him and is working. As I said, all those involved in producing and prescribing these drugs must legally pay for all damages that they have caused.

    • @vsiegel
      @vsiegel 4 года назад +1

      You describe many issues that clearly exist, I do not disagree to it with my other comment.
      Regarding suicides, there is a factor to take into account: This kind of medication is sometimes used to reduce an existing suicide risk. So a suicide while taking the medication may not be caused by the medication, it is even possible that it worked well and reduced the suicide risk a lot. But it went badly by really bad luck anyway.

    • @emmanuelvacakis4463
      @emmanuelvacakis4463 4 года назад +3

      pinkformarie all you do is get ginger root and chop it up with skin and all. Put a handful in a cheese cloth or plastic mesh from the supermarket and put a twisty on it so the ginger doesn’t make a mess. Put it in a pot of hot water that’s not boiling. Boiling the ginger will kill the enzyme and it won’t be effective. Use 2 wash cloth size towels. On in the hot ginger water, and the other one you use to pick up the hot one so you don’t even need gloves. Apply the hot one directly on the skin. Put the cold one in the hot ginger water. Keep alternating. Do it on the intestines and the kidneys. It has to hurt a bit but not burn. Your skin will likely get stained by the treatments especially since you’ve been taking drugs. But the stain will eventually go away in time when the treatments are done. You can reuse the ginger water for 2 days so you don’t have to make it every time. You can do compresses on your legs and feet as well. But not on your head. I’ve saved my life and my brother’s life with ginger compresses. I had a heart attack and atrial fibrillation, and my brother of course was an eyelash from committing suicide from drug withdrawal and a brutal divorce that took all his wealth and loss of his family and being thrown out onto the street.

      Banned? There are some people with rare diseases literally can NOT function w/o them and after 30 years, there is NOTHING and I mean NOTHING that I could replace this with. Part of my disease is having a muscular FULL body contraction. If you try to pull my am or leg open, you would literally break my bone. When it happens the pain is so severe I can’t explain in words. I need 30-40 mg of Diazepam IM to “unlock” my body. People have thought I’m having a seizure and tried to “help”. I can’t talk. I ended up with a fractured wrist from a Good Samaritan. I don’t blame them but I was having a “good day” and going shopping alone is kind of nice sometimes. I don’t use it daily. There’s no rhyme or reason, it just happens when it happens. Don’t bother with any “have u tried...” because it’s “”yes” to everything from eye of newt to brain surgery. It is what it is. Nothing has replaced Valium for me. It was originally invented as a muscle relaxant until it was turned into “housewife heroin” in the 60’s and was the beginning of the misuse and off script use. So, yes, education x 100000 is a must! No arguments there but to flippantly say to “ban” this drug across the board based on this singular media blown up story with a multitude of poor and baseless journalism at its worst. Your flippant uneducated blanketed response is one of ignorance and not ever understanding what someone like me lives with every day. I don’t enjoy getting ready to go out thinking “where’s my emergency kit” vs a normal human thinking “where’s my keys” or “where’s my phone”. Imagine being 100% cognoscente while a stranger breaks your bones and you can’t scream or say stop. Yeah, let’s “ban all those drugs”. Such a black and white train of thinking. Life is full of varying shades of grey.
      Imagine if your child acted out terribly and your options are to punish him severely so he can’t sit for a week OR do nothing and just let it go. Nope, no other options. Black or white. Beat him senseless or let it go unnoticed. Exactly. 100000 shades of grey. Talking it out, educating him, teaching him responsibility and respect, perhaps no tv for a week etc etc. but most certainly you wouldn’t choose to beat him or to let it go.
      Life just isn’t as simple ass “ban all those drugs”. Educate people a heck of a lot better and follow up with them more frequently would be a great start!! Banning them would be a near death sentence for someone like me. Thanks. Thanks for your amazing 2 cents and your uneducated and uncaring response to a drug that can take, make or break lives. In my case, they make mine. But hey, Judith Brock says ban them all so that’s what we’ll do! Any puppies you’d like to kick on your way home or old people you’d feel better tripping? Maybe slap a blind guy for fun. You’re a horrible human being and your comments have consequences. I wish you could live for one day of my life when I have an “episode” for the lack of a better term. I wish you would feel the excruciating pain I feel while whomever I’m with has to inject me. It might be minutes but it feels like hours and you wouldn’t last 10 seconds in my life. Normally I ignore uneducated and ignorant comments from people like you but not today, nope, not today. This story hits too close to home and you armchair quarterbacks need to keep it shut until you’ve walked a mile in our Shoes. I’m tired of being kind and attempting to educate people like you. Benzos are not a very common perscription these days compared to 40 years ago. The concerns about their medical use/side effects were out there 2 decades ago.
      Since many (but obviously not all) doctors don't prescribe them they have been less used recently so getting the word out doesn't make as much sense. HIghlight that against say, Meth addiction or oxycoton use and abuse, which is at a much greater prevalence. Getting the word out is happening for those substances.

      @Karen Brock It isn't drug addiction in his case or in the vast majority of those who are injured by these drugs. It is too important to understand the differences in the terms because addiction and physical dependency are vastly different as is drug dependency and abuse.

    Wow! That must’ve been absolutely horrible for Jordan Peterson and his family. I really believe a mind like Jordan Peterson can recover from such agonizing physiological trauma. He also has millions of fans wanting to help him to get well, whenever he wishes. Looking forward to the next update.
    It’s so sad, and troubling, that most of the social media seems to continue to push their false narratives. Why are they so afraid of one individual who has helped hundreds of thousands of people?

      Mr. Peterson's current trial is a clear statement in "do as I say, not as I do". There are untold millions of people world-wide who have suffered injury or death from the monstrosity that is "pharma solution". My heart aches for Jordan Peterson because I know from my own experience of iatrogenic injury with benzodiazepines. This injury is unlike anything else. It is unfathomable torture that is untreatable and very long lasting. Many never fully recover. Too many are forced to end their lives. It is equal to those who jumped from the towers on 9/11. Fortunately I am seeing measured progress after several years in recovery. I will never understand how it didn't kill me. As tragic as this situation is for us and Mr. Peterson, my hope is that with his celebrity and global popularity it has the potential to catapult the issue of this silent epidemic into the main stream and save people from ignorantly falling into catastrophic injury from the use of these neurotoxins. I am living proof that anxiety can absolutely be managed without drugs. We have learned this truth thru surviving the injury and being forced to seek proven and effective alternatives. We all should be taught these skills long before any suggestion of drugs.

      Karen Brock Karen Brock I don’t usually swear, but what you just said is fucking delusional! What’s your occupation? What do you do for a living? If it was anything of prestige or hard work to achieve you would know that Dr. Peterson is not a danger to society. The thousands of hours this man has dedicated to educating himself through thorough studies taken over hundreds of years in areas of psychology, sociology, political theory, philosophy- and you’re just going to discredit him because he suffers from mental health issues and has a benzo addiction? Do you know how addictive benzos are? Try taking 10mg Valium for a week straight and quitting the next day. Good luck, how do you think pharmacists make their money? They make sure their cash flow keeps coming in. What a simple fucking claim to make that he’s a danger to society. Have you listened to his lectures? This man thinks rationally and factually and articulates his research and opinions in a manner that you couldn’t even conceptualize yourself being blessed with having in ten lifetimes. Next time you want to talk about a man with triple your IQ in a shitty fucking way, don’t be drunk. Use your fucking head. Geniuses suffer from mental health issues because they can rationalize and actually understand that the world is a terrible, cold place. Jordan Peterson understands this to a core, which is why he is a high in neuroticism. He has stated this and it is perfectly reasonable! The only thing making the world colder are doorknob-for-brains fools like you who want to discredit a man with an IQ of easily 150+ because he has “mental health issues”. This man is not insane or a danger. The only danger related to this man are the fools like you trying to silence him. That’s my 2 cents for the day...

      Butte Hauser believe what you want to believe. I’m not gonna tell you what to do. I respect and idolize this man for the lives he’s saved and people he’s touched and lifted out of a depression. I respect him because of the accounts of people that have told him that he made them get up off their ass and stop feeling sorry for themselves and got a job and provided for their infant child. He’s not a perfect man, but you’re a fool for judging him- as you’re not perfect either. So I wish you a good day and I respect and understand your opinion, but I find Jordan Peterson to be a saviour for many people who couldn’t figure out life on their own.

    Well explained. As a physician, I have not presribed any of these drugs, (benzodiazepines), unless it is in a tapering process, for about a decade and it is precisely because of seeing the reaction Dr Peterson had had that I refuse to do so. Those patients still on it are tapered off in a controlled setting and it is incredibly difficult but it works best if the patient FULLY understands what had happened, what is happening and what is going to happen. I feel the same way about most sleeping tablets, even the non-benzos. It is toxic pharmacology.

Years later I started having chronic anxiety attacks and was put back on klonapins (1mg per day). I was on them for 8 years when my new doctor advised me to come off. I did a slow taper for moths and got completely off of them. A month or so later I had a complete meltdown with non stop panic attacks, OCD, depersonalization and depression! I felt completely out of my mind and had to go back on them but my mind was still messed up! I started seeing a CBT doctor and after 3 years I started feeling a lot better but I’m still taking 1mg at bed time. I’m not sure I want to even try to come off of them again, I may just stay on them until I die. I’m 57 years old and not sure I have the fight in me anymore.

    As a fluoroquinolone toxicity survivor, I was pleasantly surprised by the discussion of how fluoroquinolones affect GABA receptors, so thank you very much for that! I took 12 pills of Levaquin before experiencing body wide severe disabling side effects, damaging nerves, tendons, joints, and my brain. I experienced anxiety and panic for the first time in my life, and it was severe! So severe, I was contorting into different positions on my bed! I didn't didn't know what to do with all that panic. And I was going all night long like that! I joined some support groups on social media for fluoroquinolone toxicity, and they said to take magnesium because benzodiazepines would only make it worse. So I began in high doses of Magnesium, and you know what! It worked! High doses of the right form of magnesium can work just as well as benzodiazepines in calming down, and feelings of relaxation and peace. Also for sleep! From multiple discussions with many people in the "floxy" community, there is a general rule of thumb that they have discovered: if you use pharma drugs to heal, you'll just end up dependant on pharma drugs. If you rely on natural methods, such as supplements, a clean diet, etc, you are more likely to actually heal. While I used magnesium, my brain did eventually heal from many problems caused by the Fluoroquinolone toxicity. Today I don't need magnesium and I am anxiety and panic free.

Of course without knowing what drugs he was given we can't know if these behaviors are stemming from them but personally I have never heard of someone with a benzo injury engaging in this particular type of behavior. Only because the suffering is so profound all you can do is try not to die. It is totally debilitating. But I could see if you had a certain disposition and recovered from benzo injury and wanting to exact revenge on a doctor - that wouldn't be unusual. There are many health issues that can cause a person to act out in rage and they are NOT mental illnesses. I wish I could offer helpful information for you.
