I bought the exact same frame and wheels during the black Friday sales. The frame still hasnt arrived yet but everything else is here and ready to go. The wait is killing me but this video really helped, so thanks...and well wear 👌
Yeah they had a great deal on these. It’s honestly an awesome bike, what group set you putting on?
@@thewattlife that's great to hear. Do you remember how long it took for the frame to arrive? I'm sticking 105 Di2 on it.
Yeah it took a while- but if the wheels arrive then it can’t be long till the frame comes.
Nice- just as easy to install and will make a great ride
@@thewattlife the wait is always a killer 😏 The install will be that bit easier after watching your vid, thanks man 💪
Bike looks awesome. The greatest outcome from building it up yourself is that now you have knowledge to do all future works yourself. That is something only a few of us can boast about. Me not being one of them. Having seen your old bike and this one. Come the spring you will start breaking every one of your previous PB’s. I had a 2012 Pinarello and upgraded to a 2023 Wilier Filante SLR. Effortless speed is the only way of describing a modern bike. I look forward to seeing you use it on Zwift and the road.
Literally cannot wait for Spring so i can regularly put some big miles down on it.
Thanks for sharing this build video really helpful and the looks awesome well done
Thanks Grant- hopefully the weather in the UK will get a load better asap
Beautiful bike! Well done!
Cheers Daniel
ive just ordered my (first) gravel frame from winspace and doing the same. you're video had me double checking if my brakes came with frame bolts (yes!) and if my rotors came with lock nuts (yes!) .
great video!
@allyp7 Ah nice, ha well maybe I just got a little caught out.
Would love to check out the Winspace Gravel frames
@@thewattlife i've had my eye on it for quite a while. i'm hoping its going to be my road / touring / mtb all in one!
What colour did you go for?
Again, great build! Nice to get some tips and tricks as well 🙂 I’m going to start my build in January and will make similar videos showing the bike, the build and giving explanations!
I built a T1500 in my spare room also during lockdown. Many miles on it now.
Awesome- what BB/Group set did you put on it?
@@thewattlife it was during lockdown when bike parts were in short supply and those that were available got really expensive. My preference was SRAM AXS but couldnt get the shifters. So I went with Shimano 11 speed DI2. The bottom bracket on the T1500 is press fit, ended up with shimano in the end. I didnt have a hose cutting tool for the brakes. The problem I had was getting a good seal but did in the end and it has been fine since. I would check your hanger alignment with a tool 🙂
cosmetics alone that thing looks amazing! straight up stunning color combos! 7.5kg is fantastic total weight especially with sram. I'm starting a "budget" Pinarello build next weekend size 56cm hoping to do 7300g with Favero assioma duo pedals, comp mount & cages ready to ride. hopefully my math is right on it
I need to get mine on a better set of scales so theres a chance i might be a bit wrong. Altogether though its come together amazingly well and super happy with it.
@@thewattlife hell yeah brother you got a bike to be proud of
Nice build! I have a couple questions if you don't mind. I just ordered the same T1550 frame during the Christmas sale and doing a similar build. Almost have everything I need ordered but missing a couple pieces.
1. For the thru-axles; how did you know what thread pitch you need? I need to order some but can't seem to find any info on if pitch is 1mm, 1.5mm or 1.75mm. Which axles did you end up with?
2. Center lock nuts for brakes. Are these standard for 12mm axle hubs? Looks like you had a shimano branded one? Scrolling through amazon has not been fruitful so far.
I appreciate your time. Can't wait to see your follow up videos on the build. Mine will probably take a couple months to fully complete so your build is getting me by while I wait impatiently.
Through axels are supplied with the frame. So you won’t need to get hold of any of those.
www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00DOTES7A?ref_=pe_27063361_487360311_302_E_DDE_dt_1
These are the locking nuts I got. I couldn’t find SRAM branded ones very easily.
Definitely doing a follow up review soon
@@thewattlife Oh nice! The website made it sound like the axles wouldn't be with the bike so that is good news!
Thanks for the locking nut info, I will get some on order. I'm running shimano groupset so the branding works out for me. I assume it uses the same tool as the cassette?
Thanks again for all the info! much appreciated.
Yeah- can tighten them with the same tool as a cassette. Easy squeezy
It’s looking amazing. I love that new sram force now that it comes as black.
Do you give your bikes a name?
Yeah Sram is looking sick- goes well with the frame and wheels. Although given the cost that you can get a RED groupset for at the moment id might have upgraded if that was an option. @cyclingunboxed
Amazing as usual. Thanks. I've added a note for them to deliver additional spacers which they said they'd send. if I get more spacers, can I have the bike a bit upright by not cutting the fork too low ? Does it make sense ?
Sure you can use more spacers so that your position on the bike is more upright. I cut about 6 inches off the steerer tube so effectively it could have been 6 inches higher.
Nice build. So where did you buy your groupset from?
From @js_cycles they have some insane deals at the moment. Would probably gone with a SRAM Red group set if I ordered now
beautiful bike!
Have you ever weighed it?
Yes sir- ended up being 7.9kg. Which for an aero bike is ok given it wasn’t built to be as light as possible. 👍🏻
@@thewattlife nice, thank you👌🏼
💪🏼💪🏼
Thank you Missy
Like the whitewall tires, but at 27mm you may have gone too narrow.
From memory i think they are only available in 25 or 27/28
did you have to buy thru axles or did those come with the frame? I noticed your centerlock nut said Shimano and not SRAM? Did you have to bleed your brakes or ? Hoping to do basically the same exact build but waiting till black friday for the 2nd gen frame.
Nice man- I’ve got a cheeky discount code on my latest vids that might work on top. Worth a try.
Through axels came with the frame.
Centre locks for the rotors I had to buy.
I also had to buy the screws for the brake callipers.
I didn’t need to bleed the brakes for the first build as hoses comes pre pressurised just try not to spill too much fluid.
Use code "WattLife10" for 10% off on the Winspace website.
So how much are we talking about, cost wise? Because I've had this idea before, but every time I look online, the general consensus seems to be that it's never worth it financially (vs just buying a same speced bike), only if you're doing it as a hobby.
Winspace were doing the T1550, Lun Hyper SE 67' & Zero SL bar/stem for $3270.
I paid about £1,750 for a Sram Force D2 AXS with power meter. - This is even cheaper now!
Bottom bracket was about £100
Bolts, grease, locking nuts, cutting steerer tube...
Pedals, seat.
Youre still getting a T800 carbon frame so its not like this is a 'budget bike' but the value is definitely apparent.
@@thewattlife That's actually not bad for what you're getting. I already have power pedals and a good seat, so it's really tempting. Thanks for the quick reply and all the videos you're making!
Pleasure man- check the @js_cycles website for deals on group sets.
If you have a ‘donor bike’ then it can really make it worth it to update your set up
I am also new to the whole bike build stuff, so please forgive me. Regarding the BB: Are you using the Token Ninja BB86 because of the ease of use? According to my very limited knowledge, this is a PressFit BB, but it gets threaded together, right? So by using the Token Ninja you don't need other fancy assembling equipment to push things in and out, right? When picking the exact version what do I have to consider? Just the Crankset? I also plan to use the new Force, hence I need look for DUB, right? Thank you in advance! //Edit: The frame I want to build is also a BB86. //Edit2: I just watched your separate BB video. Looks like that all of my assumptions are correct!
Ah nice- glad the channel came in handy.
Hope you got all the info you need.
Yes the BB has to fit the frame firstly- and then also the crank size. Glad you figured it out.
If you need a link to the thread together BB I used let me know and I’ll dig it out. I’ve sent it to a bunch of people by now 😂
Curious as to why you went for the Disc over the Rim brake version?
I think it seems to be the way that the industry is heading. I know that Enve wheels will stop making rim brake wheels next year, mostly it was just to give myself the best chance of being able to adapt the bike going forward- and less so to do with braking performance/weight
Nice bike but important question: Does it make you faster on Zwift...? :)
I think a new bike just adds 25 watts all around
Sick build! Do you have the weight of the integrated bar and stem?
Yeah- 375g’ that’s with the mount attached with the two little bolts but NOT with the bung or top cap etc
@@thewattlife Impressive weight for the price. Thank you for your fast response!
They are great bars.
What is the torque spec for the compression plug?
I actually cannot remember this- but i used the chat option on the Winspace website to ask them questions about torque. They were quite good at getting back to me
Nice bike. Are you going to race it in crit races?
Hey, yes thats the plan, ive never done a crit race or really any race to be fair but lots of sportives. Theres a series in the UK called Full Gas that im signing up for next year and will make a youtube series on
mind me asking what wrench you got ?
www.louis-moto.co.uk/en/wera-torque-wrench-reversible-ratchet-1-4-3-8-and-1-2-10090620?filter_article_number=10090620
I got this one. It’s been great
What is your height? Is the frame size 550? What about handlebar width and stem length?
Im 181 cm so 5'11". I have a size L which is the 510.
Bar/stem is 380 width and 95mm stem.
So far everything fits perfectly.
Really great bike my frame is on the way. Will be installing Dura Ace and Ultegra mechanically. What mount does the seat clamp have: 7X7mm round or 7X9mm oval?
Let me check for you
@matthias-L Its an integrated seat clamp- so not quite sure what part you are talking about.
What is the diameter of the two bars on your saddle? 7mm and round?@@thewattlife
Thi sis the saddle i have on it: www.fizik.com/uk_en/arione-r3.html?_gl=1*h1nelg*_up*MQ..&gclid=CjwKCAiA-bmsBhAGEiwAoaQNmiwROggVr-UVH59Rws6Wd5vEO-7Q0GUW-u_Dr0EbXdYZZfax2PKarhoCHTsQAvD_BwE
Ok thanks they are 7x7 round. The frame set should also include clamps for 7x9. My Lun hyper R45 arrived yesterday but unfortunately there were no spare spokes with you?@@thewattlife
thanks for the nice video and all the infos...did you by any chance weight the frame before the build? I am trying to get a reliable number for the painted frameset weight (including fork and seatpost)
Yes I do. I weighed and photos everything before building.
Frame - 1055g
Fork - 405g
Seat post with clamp and locking nut - 239g
The seat post is the clamp for the seat as well as the locking nuts that go into the frame to secure it in the seat tube.
I didn’t weight the seat post alone as just carbon
Thank you very much..these values are consistent with the ones they gave me:
-fram 880+100 paint
-fork 395
-seat 170 without clamp and nut
Considering that these numbers were given for a M-size, I think they are really spot on.
That is reassuring and confirms their honesty..one reason more to trust them, they do not hide their numbers
@@thewattlife btw, if you don't mind, can I ask you your height and inseam? I was wondering how you ended up with an L size...I am bit doubting between size S and M, since I have short inseam for my height
looked on website what size did you go for says a XL is 550mm? which would be a 56cm frame i guess?
Im 181 cm and I have a L frame- I have a single spacer and a 95mm stem. For the size it rides short and snappy. Out the saddle my chest is right over the bars. LOVE it
@@thewattlife thanks I'm 183cm but I guess slightly longer legs, I was looking at there sizing and they have the i guess top tube and I was going off that I should be okay with a Large aswell then, I always ride a 56cm frame/ medium so was just curious what I'd be looking at there prince seems really great for what your getting
@EmrysJones Yeah with the flush seat tubes to the top tubes its hard to use traditional bike sizing with some aero frames. I think these are easier to go off top tube so roughly a 55.
Nice bike how much is it worth
Hey Carlo- Winspace were doing the T1550, Lun Hyper SE 67' & Zero SL bar/stem for $3270.
I paid about £1,750 for a Sram Force D2 AXS with power meter. - This is even cheaper now!
Bottom bracket was about £100

Pedals, seat.
I built it myself so its hard to say exactly but you can get an idea
how tall are you and more importantly how does the size L feel? If you wanna share inseam also if thats not to private 😄👍 Cheers
Sure man- I’m 5’11” or 181cm.
I have a video coming out on the fit of this bike when I’m doing a bike fit, but I LOVE it.
I don’t really know my inseam.
From a feel perspective - I also have a 95mm stem, it feels perfect. I definitely wouldn’t go with a smaller frame, if you can wait till tmrw you’ll see me getting it fitted on here.
✌🏻
@@thewattlife cool ill check it out
did winspace suck your pen after you make this video?
Should I ask them to?
