We also may have to wait till lenses that match that amount of resolution become available
This sensor will be useful in the technical/industrial/museum world.
Well to be honest when I started it was the A7S 12MP then the A7RM2 42MP and then the A7RM5 61MP I basically moved up for the IBIS then the AF of the many things. From the beginning till now every camera was full of detail and sharpness. With the A7s I got poster size prints of the Milky Way with the different color stars and many different colors of sky glow, The A7R2 allowed be to forget the sticks and capture bracketed 3 at +/- 2EV hand held in Antelope Canyon day and night (guide had a LED lateran) with stars above openings while laying down aiming skyward with the new 12-24mm f/4 and one day white pelicans flew in to a slew behind the house and I walked only hand holding the new 200-600mm across a slope of over 200 yards getting landing and take offs also feeding for my first large bird captures and with the A7RM5 upped it with cropping on a bird some very long yards away flying with sticks everything sharp and in focus even two birds yards apart flying or even egrets in a rookery I was able to pick most in focus/sharp and great DOF. Even using the 24-240mm (36-360mm in APS-C) every image sharp. With all that really would any one ever go more. Yes cropping that is the only reason for more and more pixels, Sony stopped at 61MP for they knew that is all that is really needed and no one will be looking at an image on the wall with a magnifying glass!!! Back in '14 a guy with a C1 camera ($$$) watched me with my A7s and then looked at my edits and went out and got the A7R and was very happy!!!!!
Phase one have had 150mp sensors for years, it wouldn't surprise me if this was for the Phase one industrial cameras.
What about the state of lenses to resolve to that level???
thanks for sharing
Schneider-Kreuznach will have that covered. Probably already does
File size must be colossal, we'd need a new generation of storage media!
Who can/would build a body for it? It's size is 75mm x 63mm! Fuji and Hassy are 44 x 33. Then there is glass for it. This is insane and would be insanely expensive.
Imagine would life with just the Sony 300mm f2.8 where closer is through cropping. Lp
If you build it they will come…
It's diagonal measurement is 64mm, so likely the same size as Fuji sensor.
I don't know where you came up with 75 x 63mm.
PhaseOne baby 😎
What is the minimum computer spec to edit to with pictures taken from this camera. Would it just crash my old computer?
One RAW-file equals 1 TB? :)
Good luck with the processing the files. Then the new generation of software and hardware required.
Do they have lenses good enough to handle a 247MP sensor?
I would call it the "Sony A7RX"
Good if we used this technology in micro 4/3 to get 50 mp.
phase one has announced they will be offering a camera with 247mp in 2025. The real issue and problem is that there might not be many lenses that can resolve to this level of resolution
is it intended for industrial & scientific application?
Why di they not put a 60mp on A9 III!
45 megapixels is big enough for me and my memory always nearly full. I can't imagine 247 megapixels buffer and file size 😵💫
It seems that a 6cm by 7cm sensor with 80 to 100 MP would produce a better photo. Also adding more color depth such as 16 bit per channel might be beneficial.
thanks for sharing your thoughts
Space, the Final Frontier. This explores those images in detail.
Sony once again proved they are the leader in photography industry. Nikon and Canon are giants, still Canon has around 50% market share but Sony first introduced medium format mirrorless with unbelievable 247MP sensor. My love and respect for Sony team. A warm Congratulations to Sony.

lol ok
Pllease make a back that fits on Mamiyas 6x7 cameras… I doubt the image circle of the PhaseOne optics is large enough to be used on that diagonal of 64mm..
The bar is set too to high for other competitors , as well as processor should be gigantic and ultra max fast with the compatibility with all Sony lenses .
250MP sounds impressive but image sensor resolution is a function of pixel size. At medium format the pixel pitch is not that high. 😊
For Hassy X3D?
nah for professional cameras👍
in A7R6 or 7??
Do you think Sony will be able to reuse the E mount on this medium format camera ?
Depends on the pixel size, you can fit 500 million but if they are tiny quality and noise suffers.
Have Sony reduced the size of the pixels? What's the difference in size of pixels in FF C or MFT?
thanks for sharing
in the end someone's gotta do it 1st . . . , i don't care if sony is releasing 1000mpx medium format , if the tech is there why not . . . , sooner or later the others will follow
Just to be clear, that would be called 1 Gigapixel.
@@Chris_Wolfgram yeap 1 gigapickels , imagine the cpu needed to edit that kinda resolution ….
Sir, ur intro animation so cool; what you do for a living?
thanks
IT SHOULD BE INSIDE THE NEXT FUJI GFX 100 III I LL ORDER FOR SURE THIS TIME BUT MY A7R5 WITH PIXEL SHIFT ID VERY GREAT FOR NOW...
Menunggu Nikon merilis Nikon Medium Format 354 Mega Pixel
@nikon @nikonusa @nikoncanada @nikoncorporation
They will have to design a new set of lenses that cover the medium format sensor and can handle the high resolution
Those lenses already exist - optically at least.
The problem will be AF speed with so much glass to move.
@@Renegade1127 yes but that‘s not enough
I see no advantage for almost any application of having 247MP, I am fine with 50MP. One argument would be that one can crop but lenses , especially wide-angle have significant lower resolution outside the center. Sony has developed curved sensors which would lead to the same resolution across the field but I am still waiting for such camera!
thanks for sharing
why not show some MF cameras in action rather than 24x36, yes you mention the FujiFilm 100 . Thanks for the info
Has Sony ever produced lenses suitable for such pixel,?
they are on it 😉
Just watching this video hanged my pc.
And I was thinking of upgrading to 60MP 😄
My first dslr had only 6MP, combined with L glass it made superb portraits. Good enough for A4 sized prints.
New camera body with new lens mount would be needed. The sensor is too large for the alpha bodys.
The Alpha cameras can use it, I think
and the file size for 247mp?
250-300 Mb
It seems that such permissions are already madness that will find an extremely narrow application
The reason for this coming for industrial applications is that non-industrial users will hardly be able to afford the gear around this sensor. Imagine the new series of lenses and camera bodies that you needed when considering a move from a 60MP FF to 247MP MF platform! Also it will take years to have a decent range of lenses out for this. I am actually a bit disappointed that Sony did not prioritize the curved sensor platform over this MF sensor, or not leveraging the potential to merge the two. Imagine a 247MP curved sensor that requires lenses that weigh & size the same as their current FF lenses! That would be awesome. Who wants to carry an f2.8 zoom that is over 2kg just alone?
thanks for sharing
Idc about resolution, Sony needs to give us 16bit color
This exceeds the resolution of most, if not all available lenses. So what? Besides of that, putting a gigantic photo on a wall doesn't even need more than 8 MP.
thanks for sharing
But Sony dont have Medium format lenses
1 Gigabyte file size for a Raw picture lol
The monitor screen resulution is way behind
not every artist will be excited about this sensor... It all depends on the type of photography
the funniest part is that most photos printed in 5r size
😀 What should I do with 247 megapixel portraits, start blurring? yes, and customers also post finished works on Instagram, taking into account the resolution of smartphones that is 5-6 megapixels. Conclusion, this is necessary only for photographers, and this is sad. p.s. it would be better if Sony made such a level of image stabilization as well, at least for GoPro and iPhone, without a stabilizer. In other companies that manufacture cameras, things are still much worse.
Meanwhile, Canon is introducing the R5 mark II... which is basically the same camera as the R5. Such leaps and bounds.
And your point?
@@GerhardBothaWFF seriously? You need that expounded upon further?
Would such a sensor be affordable for the average photographer?
Yes wait 10 more years 😊
the average photographer today uses a phone. so , I dont think so.
X3D?
I think that Sony is doing unnecessary muscle work.
If this has video capabilities.... Sony can't even keep their full frame 4k and 6k from over heating.... this is going to be a real fire starter.... good for survivalists
Look at full frame with 24.2MP and feel inadequate.....
Not really. A 4k monitor is only 8.3 mpx.
Not many people have an 8k monitor (which is 33.2 mpx) The Dell 8k monitor is $4000 +
@@Renegade1127 I still feel "inadequate" at 24.2MP but thank you for trying to make me feel better.
And in 5 years 500MP ? 🙄 It becomes ridiculous. With probably 500M0 by picture, I wonder who will enjoy to deal with such files - not me, in any case - Anyway, such a sensor will demand a new camera (much bigger and heavier) because Sony is unable to put it into its current bodies. Not to mention new lenses, unless they stick to Fuji or Blad ones, which is hardly likely.
thanks for sharing
While impressive, I don't think it's for me.
500mb a photo
crazy right?
Who on earth wants to buy a sore knee camera???😂😂😂
sounds like a b2b product than a btoc one from sony...
For only 300k.
Is this legit?
Totally incompetent video. The only ones who could use this is Phase 1, because they have the lenses able to address this sensor size. Sony has nothing even close, so showing all the Sony camera footage doesn‘t make any sense.
5x4 lenses for Alpa XY etc have been using 100mp + 2 or more 4.5x6 sensors stitched for some time.

I prefer my Leica M3 to this crap.

I need more hard disks( a lot more) if I happen to be able to afford this camera..
old news
Cannon r3 beat Sony Sony A1 easily. So Megapixel will not play a role at all.
A1 is old boy. Sony needs to update that.
Must cost US$15000 or more. Holy cow!
