Evan asking for the treatment anyway is like a fifteen year old kid asking for a lobotomy because they are schizophrenic, it’s so painful to watch
Or worse. When we ask for a lobotomy because we’re not like every one else at 15 years old.
I said this statement verbatim so many times while watching this holy shit
No but I literally did something like this because of my bipolar. It's heaps more painful to experience, unfortunately, but honestly Misfits and Magic has done good in much more complicated ways than I think anyone predicted. Evan is a genius character and this entire encounter gives me the warm fuzzies.
"Thats not very fair" fucking BROKE me
This reminds me of the time I rocked up to my psychiatrist with information about ECT (electroconvulsive therapy) because I've dealt with bipolar disorder my whole life and he said "You are 17, what's going on?" Like the desperation Evan feels is absolutely something I can relate to. "Anything would be better than this"-vibe.
"Oh right, you're American. Do you want a...so-dah?"
I love Nurse Stitchnit so much. He's so kind, understanding and good at his job. Be it trying to bring a clearly very traumatized kid some comfort or stabilizing a grievously injured man. Best NPC.
what really gets me is how brennan tears up saying “I would still just want to be normal. I would still just want to be normal.” :( been there
As a teen with a lot of chronic pain, and a disability that requires a looooot of maintenance, I understand Evan’s desperation. I’ve had so many times I’ve thought of forfeiting having any sort of life or anything just to sit and avoid the pain, or not having friends just so they don’t have to eventually watch me deteriorate, I know exactly how if feels to know that if something about you changed it’d be better for everyone. Yeah..this scene really gets me.
I love that abria sprinkles in hints that nurse stitchknits daughter is trans by talking about not being able to express herself and puberty blockers
IM SO GLAD SOMEONE ELSE GOT THE READING YESSSWW
…well now I’m EXTREMELY inclined to pay for Dropout stuff so I can watch the full series.
@@felwalkr_94 Dropout is unfathomably based and, as far as I know, everyone is very trans positive. As well they should, trans rights are human rights.
@@felwalkr_94 it was the 6 dollars the most worth it of my life
This is going to sound odd, but this talk reminds me so much of my first session with my therapist, I was neglected and emotionally abused for the vast majority of my childhood until I ran away from home and this scene reminded me of that moment when I first talked to my therapist
“Wait… this person understands… this person isn’t calling me a liar, or acting like my issues aren’t important… this person cares, this person sees me, and sees what I’ve gone through, and sincerely wants to help”
Abriah and Brennan knocked this scene out of the park, and genuinely made me get emotional… I love this scene
The first time a doctor said yeah we can just do that surgery for you I also kind of lost it, they had talks abt insurance and stuff but they went yes we can do that if that's what you want and it broke me in a way nothing ever has
1. Aabria cannot be overhyped. She is masterfully improvising so many different genres in her world building and is honestly healing my inner child with the comforting understanding she has as Nurse Stitchnit.
2. Brennan is incredible. We all know this, but it cannot be said enough. Evan/Brennan (stained glass moment for sure) recounting the awe and love he has for his friends is just so beautiful.
Write down, tell your friends how you admire them!
This is important. Thank you for saying an important thing.
god brennan is too good at roleplaying the depth he embodies with his characters is so domineering in presence that even if its just a 1 on 1 dialog between him and the DM I wouldn't mind sitting there watching even if I was at the same table because its entertaining to watch him play out his characters that I wouldn't mind just being a side character.
I cried like a baby the first time I saw it
Also the discreet indication that nurse stitchknit's daughter is trans made me so happy
YES!!! I screamed when I finally noticed it on a watch through, it’s such a small inclusion, but it does so much to show how much Stitchknit cares about his daughter (and kids in general) if he’s willing to go through magical and non-magical channels to get the care she needs.
“Did you know that medicine is better than magic in a lot of really important ways?”
“Yeah, I did super know that.”
My heart 🥺♥️
i have no doubt that Evan has tried to end his own life but his magic wouldn't let him.
Like when Bruce Banner tried to shoot himself and Hulk spat out the bullet
God, don't make this shit sadder than it already is
At some point he said something like "this thing that I have, it won't let me die" so yeah
he literally has, he mentions it in the campaign.
Evan Kelmp has the exact opposite of Main Character Syndrome
wow. just everything about this scene is amazing. Aabria and Brennan are incredible.
"It all goes away. You go home."
"I don't have h- I don't have that!"
Why must you break my heart like this??? That line and the way Brennan delivers it just never fails to make me absolutely burst into tears. 😢
Just finished that scene while listening to the season for the first time. Thank you for uploading it so I can show it around! The gut punch of "I'll take the treatment" chokes me up so much.
I love how, even as a player, Brennan just takes over with his own agenda. Sure, Evan is a fairly timid dude until he's pushed, but Brennan said "Hold on, I know you have a whole thing planned but I'm going to make you and every other player a part of this thing for a while. Let's see if you can keep Evan around!" Sheer evil genius. This man will not be outshined on his own stage!
i think he's hilarious and brilliant. But isn't that bad improv for him to try and take over with his own agenda? I wonder how the other players/peers feel about it.
@@JDoradoTube It's only bad improv if they didn't talk it out beforehand. And, given the way Brennan presents himself in all the BTS stuff, I can't imagine that that didn't come up in Session 0 for this.
@@JDoradoTube it really comes down to the relationship between the player and the DM, what they've discussed away from the table, how much they trust each other with the story and their ability to react and make it better.
Brennan and Aabriya know each other well, they know they're both excellent roleplayers, improvisors and storytellers. Brennan came to Aabriya with a wacky character concept and Aabriya said "yes, I trust you to play that character well, to make them part of a good story and not abuse my trust" In this scene Brennan is saying "Thank you for trusting me to play this character faithfully, this is a big part of his story, please add this ingredient into the wider story, I trust your improvisation and storytelling skills and I'm excited to see where you can take this"
Bold character driven story choices make some of the best D&D stories, where the players shape the world around them but it requires a lot of trust, skill and judgement on both sides.
From discussions about dnd, im 1000% sure he and Abria planned this stuff out from the start.
Brennan has gone on record to say his favorite thing in dnd is making choices that help the dm tell their story
also remember this is after each one of them had gotten their character moment
Perpetually looking for this clip, thank you for the upload
*voice wavering pathetically* break-down, break-down, dadada break-down, break-down
Brennan is a master player
Nurse Stitchnit’s daughter, a fourth year named maddy, is trans
Awesome 😎
We love that for them
Dimension 20 is so good at queer and POC representation Brennan was on the 3 Black Halflings podcast and had a really in-depth conversation about how to approach representation and add diversity in to TTRPGs. I highly suggest anybody to check it out.
