“Lodge” is my favorite Bowie album, it was always one of his favorites too and the “Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps)” is probably my second favorite followed by “The Man Who Sold The World”. Much of the album “Tonight” are songs he wrote with Iggy and are on “Lust For Life” and “Don’t Look Down” which is on “New Values”, but these versions are tepid as compared to the originals on Iggy’s albums. Iggy also sings with him on “Swinging With The Big Boys” the last song on the album.
Agree with both of you on the best Van: Astral Weeks is my favorite, but St. Dominic is the one I listen to the most. Astral Weeks is too emotionally heavy to play frequently. But you each picked one worst that I think is a terrific album: Soap Opera ("Ducks on the Wall," hell yeah!!!) and The Future (maybe not 100% solid, but "The Future," "Democracy," "Closing Time," and "Light as the Breeze" are all grade-A Cohen). Was a little surprised no one chose Death of a Ladies' Man. Low has always been my favorite Bowie, too. Cheers!
It's called Nanaimo. It's on Vancouver Island, off Canada's west coast. You have to take a ferry to get there. You can take the ferry in Port Angeles, after driving 14 hours from San Francisco. Then drive an hour and a half north from Victoria. Nanaimo has some great used record stores (so does Victoria). Most of the vinyl will be Canadian presses, but... Great job covering Van Morrison. So good to hear the 'inside stories' from people who knew him. Very very safe on Neil Young. The first albums are great. The music is covered in Archives Vol. I: 1963-1972, a CD package that should have come wrapped with a pack of smokes (don't smoke!). Massy is gonna have to pay for selecting 'Closing Time' as his least favorite Cohen record. It rocks! The Mac? I picked them up in 1976 and dropped them after Tusk-which I bough on a trip to NYC along with a 12" single of Miss You/Girl With the Far Away Eyes. I too give TUSK the edge. Rumors is just TOO GOOD! The Future was my first Cohen album and is still my favorite lol. That happens with an album that introduces to a group, there was something special on that album that sucked you in. Another enjoyable collaboration Mazzy. Well done
I also saw David Bowie when Duran Duran opened for him. It was'The Glass Spider Tour' in Portland, OR and Peter Frampton played guitar for him then which was awesome!
@Rachel - TheMusicMAM VC Thank you so much ;) I'm newer to the VC. I use to collect records, gave them away to my nephew when i moved (including all the audio equipment) and now just starting over again for a little less than a year. The VC has been such a valuable place to learn about new music to try out and buy. I'm shy, but I'm sure I will start sooner or later (fingers crossed).

Other than the Come Dancing best of, I don’t own a single album by any of these artists. Whoops. Love Bowie and Young particularly just haven’t gotten around to figuring out which albums / pressings to get first.
This was great. Your personal reasons for each pick were well thought out. I think Fleetwood Mac, though, is a bad choice for this exercise. All the different eras, and they were so different. I objectively think that Astral Weeks is Van’s finest work of art, but I love at least three other albums more than that one. St. Dominic’s being one. Great team-up! Cheers, guys! ✌🏻
I love that first Leonard Cohen album. It reminds me of the first Janis Ian album. Landing On Water is definitely not a classic, but it does have a certain charm. Great video!
Good to see you and Edwin, along with your best and worst. My favorites do not necessarily agree with the best: Bowie - Man Who Sold the World, Leonard Cohen - Various Positions The other artists I do not have strong opinions on. Thanks, Chris

I like the Kinks but don't have their records but the two best are Waterloo Sunset and So Tired of Waiting. Neil Young in my favorite songwriter and I really couldn't pick one that stands out. I recently delved into the Mac records post Green, pre Nicks…70-75 and they are all surprisingly solid…very pleasant surprises, all are 3.5 to 4 stars out of 5. Then Play On is fantastic and very underrated and have loved it for years. All Mac are great but 75-77 Mac are 5 stars undeniably. I was at that Ziggy Stardust show at the Santa Monica Civic. I had bought four tickets thinking my friends would want to go but none had heard of him. One went with me for the hell of it and I sold the other two out front. I was surprised how many people not only showed up but came in costume and makeup. I think LA had more fans because KLOS (may have still been KABC) ran radio commercials for Hunky Dory that had snippets of the songs and quips of Bowie talking about the songs. I thought his voice, especially on songs like Changes and Kooks sounded real Bubblegum and was not for me. One of his quotes was “I write songs for the space between waking and dreaming” which I found irritatingly pretentious and annoying. Until I fell asleep listening to KLOS with headphones on and after a ten song set I was startled awake by the last song which I wasn’t sure if I actually heard or had just dreamed it. It was “The Bewley Brothers” from Hunky Dory. I bought the show tickets the next day.

I find the comment about popular issues funny. It is of course an opinion. But the backing singers are balanced here on my audio set. I think they strike a good balance between Cohen and their voices.
At first I thought giving your worst picks would be a waste of video time. I mean, who cares about an artist's worst albums. Turns out that was short-sighted given the disagreement you two had over those picks. I guess "One man's junk really might be another man's treasure." Or, as Mr. Hunter put it, "One man gathers what another man spills." I think an artist that would generate some interesting best/worst opinions is Frank Zappa. Enjoying the channel. I kept hearing on other vinyl channels "Mazzy said this..." or "Mazzy said that..." Being a big fan of Bay Area music/vibe I'm glad I finally found out who they're referring to.

Totally disagree with Everybody’s Rockin. Liked it then and i like it now. Agreed Landing on Water is bad. Disagreed on Soap Opera. That at least had a few good tunes.I would go with Preservation being the worst. To this day haven’t made it through it! The Kinks made a bunch of great lps too hard for me to choose but i want to give Sleepwalker a shout out! An extremely underrated Kinks lp. Bowie I actually think Aladdin Sane edges out Ziggy although those two and Low are all amazing lps. I also think Station to Station is fantastic as well. Take care. Stay safe. PS: Tin Machine was a god awful mistake and the less said the better. Fun video.
Did your mom mention if Van Morrison was a cranky fuck when he was young. St Dominics Revue is one of my favorite Van Morrison albums. After The Gold Rush is my favorite Neil Young. Rumors is a great album and I think their best. I think Low is overrated. I enjoyed this video. I would like to do one of these but I got rid of most of my albums that I don’t like. I happen to like that rockabilly Neil Young record. No apologies.
Days Like This is my least favourite of the 40 Van albums I have
I’m seeing double here lol You guys must have decided to dress alike right? Great video!
Good video. Btw, Yeats' name is pronounced Yates.
Great content
Geffen telling Neil what to do. That even irritates me. Best NY record Everybody Knows.
Fun video.
No Guru no Method no Teacher is a great post Warners Van record as is The Common One
Harvest is hurt by the orchestral meandering songs. ATGR has no such filler.
I could do The Beatles and Captain Beefheart.
You are so fabulous, sugar.
Wait wait am I seeing double?
Please pronounce Yeats as Yates!
Ok 😎
@@mazzysmusic your Canadian friend talked about Van Morrison singing about W. B. Yeats, but he pronounced it yeets
Separated at birth?
