Christmas morning of 1999. I unwrapped the same green Gameboy Color along with Pokemon Yellow. I'll never forget how happy I was that day. Even just seeing this shade of green makes me a little nostalgic sometimes.
I did wish that I was born in the 20th century, a place where small things meant a fortune to us, nowadays, life sucks for this gen-kids like me, you're really lucky.
+Alpha Cat me being a 21st century kid (2001) I can definitely agree with you, but with older siblings, I had an original gameboy and a ps2 with crash team racing and fairly odd parents (breaking da rules) until I was 12, I can really see where you're coming from, but not everybody's the same.
Probably haven't seen a RUclipsr become so emotionally happy in a video as much as you did. I feel so happy for you Austin! You can tell that he really had a genuinely fun and exciting time unboxing this. Glad things are working out for you Austin!
***** Only 1 billion people live in Africa. The three main videogame markets come in at over 2 billion. This makes it inevitable that billions have played those games. Not millions. Billions. You have a nice day now.
All retro consoles are in still full production you literally could walk into Japan of go online and buy a modded one with backlit and audio enhancements etc for all games boys except the micro but Thursday customs works with them and sometimes rose colored gaming
Short blast is stopped by the sturdy plastic, long exposure to heat melts that, melts the solder+warps PCB+cracks capacitors, resistors+evaporates the liquid cristal in the liquid cristal display+etc
I know I'll sound like an old grandpa but this is so much more beautiful than today's smartphones as gaming devices. The green shade is absolutely stunning.
WOW! I was maybe 6 or 7 years old with a gameboy and I miss it so much! I would take it everywhere and play Pokemon! It made me so happy and seeing this brings me much joy! I'm considering buying one as well. Thank you so much for sharing this video.
The older days were much simpler I see. 2000: Kids playing Pokemon, having fun on Mario Kart, etc. 2015: Kids posting on snapchat, facebok, instagram, etc. My friends and I still keep the Nintendo age alive for our school. We just won't give up on them, because they are the best to us! I wish I had one of these, it'd finish my collection.
AlphaLineGaming | Gaming, Reviews, and More! Same here man! One day I started bringing my DS lite to school and playing it on the bus, and now there's about fifteen kids on my bus that play Mariokart DS. :D
AlphaLineGaming | Gaming, Reviews, and More! Only thing is that it's way too expensive with the latest nintendo products snivel ;( I wanted a simple 3DS pocket size. When dating back with the original and so on gameboy series it was cheap far as I remember.
This brought tears to my eyes...literally... made me think back to when I was a kid and my WHOLE Christmas was this single present! I was so excited and happy to get this.... I don't ever think about that day but this video definitely brought back memories...thanks for that Austin Evans
I saw a lot of unboxings, A LOT. Samsung Galaxy s7 edge, iPhone 6S plus, ps4, xBox One, $5000 computers, ultrawide high resolution curved g-sync gaming ips monitors, etc. But, never, NEVER I was that much excited about an unboxing. I'm too young to had a GameBoy when I was a child, and I'll love to have a new one just like Austin :D
27. February 2000 A young Norwegian boy with a glimmer in his eye and song in his heart receives a colourful present from his mother. He tears off the stupid paper and marvel at the beauty. "DET ER EN GAMEBOY COLOR!!!" The excitement is almost too much to bear. He opens up the box and pulls out the glorious artifact. It's perfect. It has purple transparent plastic, the edges are smooth, the buttons are easy on the thumbs. But best of all, it's his. Not only that, along with his new game system there is a cartridge with TRANSPARENT PLASTIC that says "Super Mario Bros. Deluxe". With a smile on his face, the little boy inserts the cartridge, pushed the slidey-thing on the side. And so it began.
This is handheld gaming at its finest. Bringing this to school back in the day trading, battling everyone and also showing people where to find stuff on the Pokemon games, especially Gold and Silver, they were really popular. I remember fondly when I was the only person with Dragonite because Dratini was so shit, I don't think anyone had the patience to Level him up and evolve him to Dragonair. Once you evolved Dratini, the hard part was finished. Some guy traded me a Mewtwo for a level 80 Azumarill. I was the first to find Tyrogue and showed everyone where he was. Everyone thought Crobat was obtained through trading Golbat. The struggle of trading the likes of Kadabra, Machoke, Graveller, Scyther, Onix and having to trade them back! The myth of the evolving Raichu. God those were the days! I played them so much I can still name all Pokemon in the first two generations!! Take me back! I don't want to be a grown up peoples anymore!
Great video Austin! I didn't even have a Gameboy color growing up, but you did such a great job of capturing the moment I almost felt like I got one myself. I could feel your excitement. That was great stuff, man.
In november 11 their gonn a release a old console called the nes but its small with 30 pre installed games and it will go around to 60 us dollars. (not sponsered)
Proof that it was better before... What do kids have theses days? Smartphones? Pfft... the Gameboy was actually good, because it had great games that were fun, instead of today's cheap-o games that are just plain stupid. Great video.
Also...emulators. You could play every game from the 2nd to the 5th generation on your cheap $100 smartphone. If you want buttons, get yourself one of these: goo.gl/H87uHI for another $20 and you're ready to go. Adjust the inflation and these two cost exactly as much as a GBC with one exception - you don't have to buy games. Conclusion: Portable gaming has gotten a lot better and cheaper.
Wow, what an incredibly advanced piece of technology! I can't believe Austin got something so new and powerful just like that! The Galaxy S5 is no match for this powerful machine.
Fun fact: Each letter of the word COLOR represents the actual colors of one of the GBCs. C- Red O- Blue L- Green (what you have) O- Yellow R- Dark Green
in 2024 this video is extremely valuable information in seeing exactly how Nintendo originally packed these and what inserts came with it. That stuff has become a big part of resale value in today's market.
LPSMintChocolateChip lol how much is it?, im struggling to just save for the regular version XD, and the pokemon games are so expensive, found one website lukiegames, that's the cheapest price i've seen so far
Robbe Smet lol, flash forward two years later, I've gotten all my retro stuff at this site called Mercari, 35-40 bucks for a gameboy color and at times they have some games, great prices, even got an iPad Pro for a great price bought a lot of stuff there
Got out my old GB Color "Grape", I bought it new around 98. It is in such perfect shape with everything still there (except batteries), that if I still had those original batteries you'd never know it wasn't sealed new. Not a scratch or fade on it. I even managed to keep the factory seal intact! I trashed so many things as a kid, I'm glad that at some point I finally started cherishing what I had, and taking immaculate care of my stuff. lol ....I'm off to finally finishing that Zelda Links Awakening game I started like 17 years ago. Haha....
Man, I sure wish I was born back in the day. (I'm 13). My uncle said his friends would trade Pokemon in recess and trade games.. Now all we do at school is sneak Snapchats to each other. :( sigh.
It is SOOO frustrating that seemingly all good games are on consoles that came before us, Arcade games or sequels of one of both preceeding. Ps: I am 12
I still have my purple GBC and GBA sp and my SNES! Good times, good times... I also found a PS1 in great condition at a thrift store for like $12 and I still clean and wipe down my Xbox from 13 years ago. Hard to believe Xboxes are that old already. (I'm 18)
I have a kiwi gbc that was mint no scratches, no dents, the labels are still perfect, everything and as I was getting out of my car today it fell out of my pocket on the concrete drive way and got some dinks in it nothing bad or even noticeable but it's not perfect anymore like it was 😪
Brings back so many memories. My mom actually bought one for me and surprised me with it, I never knew how much she loved me as a child. I regret not appreciating her enough growing up, but mom I love you and thank you for everything you have done for me.
I got the green one too back when it came out. It matches my dodge challenger in sublime green. Actually i think i remember being happier about the game boy as a kid than the challenger i got when i was in my mid twenties. In fact, happiness today in my early thirties is just being drugged up enough to not want to cry all day lol.
Bro I’m so happy for you. I remember my unboxing it was epic. I begged my mom for a gameboy on my bday and she said NO there’s no money for games! So I was bummed out and my mom told me “why don’t you go take a nap and we will go out to eat later for your bday” I went to my room all sad and depressed, layed on the pillow and there was something hard underneath it. I removed the pillow from the way and vuala! A brand new gameboy with 3 games and a huge pack of AA batteries, I want to re- live that feeling someday....
1) it doesn't come with batteries inside 2) battery acid isn't that big a deal. Repairable 3) this game boy would sell for 500$+ dollars he just opened it making it worked 100--150$
I know the feeling! i managed to track down a factory sealed atomic purple GBC at a flea market for about 70$ i had my original stolen ages ago, i was so happy!
I remember playing the original non-color gameboy for hours and hours EVERY SINGLE DAY and for that years Christmas I asked for a gameboy color. Every year I would find all my presents before Christmas no matter where my parents hid them. I wanted that gameboy so bad but after searching through all my presents it wasn't there and I felt sad. So when Christmas came around and after opening some presents I found a box I didn't recognize. So I went straight for it and you can imagine how happy I was when I tore back that wrapping paper and saw the atomic purple gameboy color I wanted more than anything in the world! I didn't even want to open the rest of my gifts. I just started playing it. That is the best Christmas I've ever had! I think I might buy one just to play it again and put on a shelf so I can see it everyday.
MineCartoons It's not even close to being a rare console. What do you mean by sold out? The ones that sold in the late 90s and early 2000s are the ones that are still circulating.
Yea I still break out the old Teal Gameboy Color and play Pokemon Blue or Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages for the nostalgic sentimental feeling it gives me. I still have the attachable light for it too!
Was as excited as you to open mine when I was 9 100% serious. Ps 1998-2014 15 years? Uwotm8? Lol anyone who didn't choose charmander as first Pokemon, just lol
***** I think he more than justified the cost of purchase with the emotion of this video, the nostalgia, and the unboxing. Material value? Minimal. Sentimental value? Priceless. I really hope he goes out and picks up some of his childhood games to play and enjoy on his brand new kiwi Game Boy Colour.
Sorry I did not use a question mark. The reason is for collecting purposes as it retains a higher value sealed and that you can find relatively low cost used ones which you can play on. Its just my opinion.
I still have my turquoise gameboy that turns 19 years old this Christmas. I had given it up for broken but I still kept it as a reminder and relic. Today I managed to get it to power on and damn near cried. I’ll be rebuying Pokémon blue for it and taking a huge step back in time.
I had this exact Gamenoy Color when I was a kid. Still own it, although the battery cover broke ad got lost a long time ago. This is just amazing to see, a brand new one.
+Roby599 Yea, the clip that holds the cover in place broke off mine but luckily I didn't lose it, so I just hold it in place with a small piece of scotch tape.
Just got me a "like new" game boy color myself. Haven't touched one in like 15 years. Been playing game and watch gallery 3. I had the second one when I was younger and now after all these years I can play the third one. Such a fun little system.
I remember saving for months to get one of these when I was six. Can't even say how happy it made me to relive the unboxing one more time.
This brings back memories!
You should really do the bloopers you did in an old Ask Me video. lol
are u gonna review games for it?
Hey Austin when do you expect to put out another gaming pc video?
Had a GBA when i was a kid, played pokemon green and red.
Memories right
Game Boy Color manual ironically not in color.
:v
That always got me.
I don't think many consoles had color manuals- I know for sure the DS and 3DS didn't. I don't think the Switch had a formal manual at all lol

Thanks! =D
I completely get it though I'm 21 and I just remember playing my Gameboy non stop Pokemon red all the way :P
Travis Nealey Congrats billions of other children did too -_-

Holy nostalgia. My only handheld gaming device was the SP. Definitely brought me back to the playground with my friends. Well done!
The Tribal Edition SP was the shit
my cousins still play pokemon and king kong on my gameboy advance sp xD
Mine was also the sp!!
I had a GBA a GBC and a regular GB (now i also have a DS light and a 3DS but i didn't have those on the playground xD)
That was my first new handheld!
One of his old teachers watch this. then they're like: THEY DID WHAT!?

I can see many collectors rage that you unbox a gameboy that's brandnew, but why keep it in its box forever? Its made to play games!
Troll4ever31 ._. I think he actually saved it from those corroding batteries lol
Fucking everywhere
All retro consoles are in still full production you literally could walk into Japan of go online and buy a modded one with backlit and audio enhancements etc for all games boys except the micro but Thursday customs works with them and sometimes rose colored gaming
Yeah I agree

HOW CAN A GAMEBOY SURVIVE A BOMB BUT NOT A FIRE?
+Logan Bossinger electrical fire, melting plastic and metal
True!
TheFlaringFlareon I've seen a Gameboy come out of a fire melted but functioning just fine, it was probably the bulldozer in my opinion :p
Iluminati
Short blast is stopped by the sturdy plastic, long exposure to heat melts that, melts the solder+warps PCB+cracks capacitors, resistors+evaporates the liquid cristal in the liquid cristal display+etc

Man these colorful gameboy colors are too nostalgic. Now that's what you call "Taste the rainbow... Play the rainbow!"
Yeah... I've always been into the colors. To me, they somehow play a role in the feeling you get playing the game
Alright Gameboy, your prison sentence is done
Jackson I have one
Jackson Gameboy Advance: What about me
Prison warden: I have to tell you thou, the world has changed.
Game Boy Color: I’ll take my chances. I’m sure game boys are still made today.

u suck
Thats the one I have!
I currently HAVE a blue one
Alexander Seda You can play any gameboy game ever made on that! :)
I have an SP too. Charizard version.
Nintendo needs to stop making DS and start bringing back the GameBoy for this generation. A GB that is more powerful than the psvita.
But gameboy developments are put to rest and DS is new.
What's the point of that? The DS is just the successor of the gameboy with a different name.
In november 11 their gonn a release a old console called the nes but its small with 30 pre installed games and it will go around to 60 us dollars. (not sponsered)
we're talking about gameboy. not NES, n00b.

I still cal the nintendo DS a Gameboy. Because that is essentially what it is. :P

Is that hole on the side place to plug in your HDMI cable so you can project your Game Boy screen on the plasma 50 inch TV and enjoy in 4K resolution?
...
Yes! and if you put it in the fridge for a good 10 hours you can even display it at 12k, but for best results you gotta put it in the freezer
I think that's just for the link cable for multiplayer
no it's a micro sd slot capable of expanding up to 32 gb to put all your movies, music and games on it

A brand new gameboy with 3 games and a huge pack of AA batteries, I want to re- live that feeling someday....
for a second i thought the batteries were fire works
ME TOO!
Might as well be, I'm sure you could hook up a fuse to those...
WHY DID YOU OPEN THE BOX?!?!!?!?!?!?!?
This is an "unboxing" video.
ZethuX GOTTEEEMMMMM
Calm down Sheldon !
gameboys were meant to be played not kept in some box! plus the battery acid damage would have eventually ruined the gameboy and made it worthless
1) it doesn't come with batteries inside
2) battery acid isn't that big a deal. Repairable
3) this game boy would sell for 500$+ dollars he just opened it making it worked 100--150$
Videos like this are so refreshing because not everyone has one.
I actually was in the expectancy during the whole video for him to turn the game boy on and play some stuff on it =(
0:40 when your old teachers watch this: THEY DID WHAT?? HOW DARE THEY SNEAK THIS TO SCHOOl. XD
I dont think a teacher (Unless they like Nintendo) Would come to a Gameboy Color Unboxing.
Okey Ness It was a joke.
Seeing this unboxing sparks a crazy sense of nostalgia. Gosh the first gaming device I ever had as my very own!
Put this in a glass container like your old iPod from the fire.
Why did you open it omg
I wish I could relive the moment I opened up my Gameboy Color kiwi green at the age of 11. One of the best gifts I ever got. Thank you mom, RIP.
RIP. 😔
nostalgia here we come.
I know the feeling! i managed to track down a factory sealed atomic purple GBC at a flea market for about 70$ i had my original stolen ages ago, i was so happy!
Awesome find!
Happy about it being stolen or you finding another one
Yea I have that too
punisher5433 Touché. Happy i found an other one!
Wow Austin what a great unboxing Also like your shirt its INTERESTING
if you play this video backwards, it will be about a guy boxing his GameBoy. -10/10
XD
here we've got the game boy color manual... in black and white
Finally,a theme and everything i need for a video.Perfect video.
Where would you buy one of these for cheap I looked at eBay but where else
Amazon
Where can I buy this unboxed??
Gameboy colors will always be one of the most memorable gameboys!! Great video!
I have the original Gameboy, but I plan on getting a Colour one and repainting it to make it look all Zelda-y. Any advice?
Catbug Gameboy COLOR not colour its a console name not a spesification so you can't use a dialect
Imre Saks Jeez, just autocorrect
Oh then nvm
Imre Saks lel
NVM NVM NVM NVM
i have that exact gameboy. in the same color
WEEWOOWEEWOO You stole it? :O
i had yellow one
+TASTE my green one from my brother was stolen so i bought a green one again for him lol is the green one the most stolen game boy?
Carter Knight I just bought one
Is this color rare?
I think I might buy one just to play it again and put on a shelf so I can see it everyday.
omg I thought he was gonna cry XP
im gonna go buy a Nintendo 3Ds and save it for 15 years and then sell it for $10000
Good luck with 10k you'd be luck to get 500
*****
Well $10,000 could be worth only $500 15 years from now if inflation gets out of control.
would suck if the apocalypse happens, or if the market inevitably crashes lol.
get a ouya instead, they'll be way more rare in 15 years, and a boxed one will be worth a shit ton for collectors
Wouldnt work ! As tech now adays is MASS made ! Compared to before !
At what point should we open all them just to remove the batteries?
Where the hell did you find this?
The Lone Wolfe eBay probably or he contact with Nintendo
How much did you pay for this?
***** can't be $30, seriously!? These are fairly rare aren't they?
Not at all you can buy one for like $50.
Skrubwrecker1337 Oh, did not know that. I thought most of them where sold out, and in return the few ones left would be really expensive
MineCartoons www.ebay.com/itm/Teal-Nintendo-Game-Boy-Color-Console-Factory-SEALED-/321462566323
MineCartoons It's not even close to being a rare console. What do you mean by sold out? The ones that sold in the late 90s and early 2000s are the ones that are still circulating.
My first Austin Evans video that i watched
i got a game boy advance SP when I was 9, in 2005
I got my gameboy advanced sp when I was 5 in 2005 that was probably the happiest day in my life because thats when I played my first ever video game.
st0rm cool, my first video game console was Brick Game, then I had a nintendo 64 and after the gameboy advance sp.
I got an sp as the first system that was fully mine in 2004. I was 7.
Yea I still break out the old Teal Gameboy Color and play Pokemon Blue or Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages for the nostalgic sentimental feeling it gives me. I still have the attachable light for it too!
Guilty! I remember sneaking Game Boy into school! When the pocket, and the color came out I was SOO happy about it!
Was as excited as you to open mine when I was 9 100% serious. Ps 1998-2014 15 years? Uwotm8?
Lol anyone who didn't choose charmander as first Pokemon, just lol
Diogo Filipe Rocha We all agree on one thing: no one ever chooses bulbasaur.
Didn't have to choose, heck yea for yellow. First game to let a pokemon follow you and only game to let you get all three starters in game.
I was born in 1998 and I'm 15
Skylar Headrick had yellow and red, don't know why, basically same game lmao
Rambi Ninethousand Same here
That's must have cost a bit.
***** Exactly. But if his old one was destroyed, fair enough he can open this one but he better keep it in its plastic, inside the box still haha
***** Game Boy Color - Lime - Pristine Condition - Touched by Austin Evans
Could probably sell for quite a bit.
joeysucks42 err dude its kiwi colour
Your happiness feel contagious, by the way, nice t-shirt to make this unboxing
you just destroyed an acient artifact
Lol
No, he freed it.
Pipdockan Ancient*
$400 down the drain
He will probably earn the money back on this video
Look at it this way, you only live once, money won't help you once you're gone
And I'm supposing love is helpful when you are dead? Money makes happy! The more you have the more you are happy! :P
To a certain extent, it can't make full happiness, I tried that
Money isn't always the source of happiness my friend
I will never forget getting my Gameboy Color 20 years ago, first Nintendo product I ever owned! So much nostalgia.
Why would you even unbox a brand new gameboy anyway. Couldn't you just buy a used one to play with
Its a different thing to buy a 15yr old handheld console
What's wrong with unboxing a NEW Gameboy? Also use question marks
Sorry I did not use a question mark. The reason is for collecting purposes as it retains a higher value sealed and that you can find relatively low cost used ones which you can play on. Its just my opinion.
Got you thanx
Pamhatapezanu Oh I see
NERDGASM
+log1x07 ha ur cmment made my day lol.
I still have my turquoise gameboy that turns 19 years old this Christmas. I had given it up for broken but I still kept it as a reminder and relic. Today I managed to get it to power on and damn near cried. I’ll be rebuying Pokémon blue for it and taking a huge step back in time.
austin im so sorry for your loss, your collection was so big.
I had this exact Gamenoy Color when I was a kid. Still own it, although the battery cover broke ad got lost a long time ago. This is just amazing to see, a brand new one.
+Roby599 You could get a brand new battery cover on eBay and Amazon.
Where do you buy the perfect condition game boys?
The exact model color I had. It went with me everywhere! I have no idea what I did with it, but I wish I still had it.
This is just an awesome, cool, and exciting video. I would be like Austin if I were unboxing this. Keep making these awesome videos Austin!!!
I have such a soft spot for the Gameboy Colour, it’s such a gorgeous system
Happy 20th Birthday Game Boy Color
Beautiful!! I never had a GBC and i remember see it in a showcase for sale when i was 13 or 14 years old! Now i'm 32
FINALLY!! At least SOMEONE still plays old video games on old video game consoles!
