  • Pretty much the only train out of Inverness on this day was the shuttle service running to/from Aviemore. I'd never been to Aviemore, so I thought I'd go take a look as I'd heard it has a lovely station.
    Couple the pretty station with a really beautiful morning and the chance to ride over some lengthy viaducts with amazing views and I was well up for it!

    A very familiar run to me, and one of my favourites, as someone who grew up in the area. A couple of pronunciation points: Tomatin has the stress on the second syllable (like tomato, but not the American pronunciation!). Slochd is pronounced /slɒxk/, i.e. rhyming with loch but with a /k/ on the end - think of it as being like ‘it’[s Loch K]atrine’. 😊

    Always nice when someone from down south comes up and gets blown away by the north highland lines as you have been on your 3 Inverness based vids. Those lines and the west highland line between Glasgow and Mallaig are just some of the best to sit on and watch the world go by

    • @JohnnyHooverTravels
      @JohnnyHooverTravels  9 месяцев назад

      Yes, they sure are. I do plan to go to Mallaig and Oban in the future too. There's some many journeys on rail or road in the highlands that are awesome.

    The Highland Mainline is just stunning, Aviemore is a lovely Station but all the stations on the line have their own characteristics and spending 16 hours on this line stopping off at every stations is one my favourites highlights that I've done in 2023. Great video.

    • @JohnnyHooverTravels
      @JohnnyHooverTravels  9 месяцев назад

      Yes, I've not actually done the whole Highland Mainline yet myself - either as a traveller or a youTuber. I'm sure I will put that right soon. as you say, there's some lovely stations on the line and its worth breaking the journey if you can.
      Best wishes to you 👍

    Looked the perfect day weatherwise. And judging by how quiet your train looked, it seemed as though Storm Babet had kept a lot of other potential travellers indoors 👍

      Yes. I think there were only 3 people travelling on the train apart from the driver and guard!

    I was just finishing a late night or early morning project here in California at 3 AM and what a nice surprise to see this video pop up unexpectedly. Though I was very tired I had to watch it before turning in for the day. Aviemore Station is a little gem box with an excellent restoration. I enjoyed loitering along with you and your other subscribers. I again would like to commend your excellent research staff in providing the extensive background history on all of your locations. We must also acknowledge the talents of your camera crew and your producer. Thanks for the "bonus" and I am looking forward to Friday for your next video. Your attention to detail and your presentation is so well done. "A couple of cracking viaducts." Congrats on 3rd place coupled with admiration for you getting out on the field.

    What a great run! We’ve been to Aviemore and took the Strathspey Heritage steam train. It was great fun and we would do it again. My husband would be happy to be a judge at the porridge competition. lol. Congrats on the football results!

      Haha - well I certainly do. I think the best I can manage now is "he's good for his age". We are just starting training for the 2024 season, so I'm going to have to do well in practice to make the starting team in 2024. First friendly series is on Sunday, so we'll see 🏈

    You'd never been to Aviemore before? Wow, you certainly enjoyed a treat in that case: and thanks for sharing it with us - a positive way of spending an otherwise longer-than-expected period at Inverness! You're lucky that the sun was in the right place for that last lap down from Slochd Summit too - it is rather pretty, that view to the west. At risk of showing my age, there used to be a much better view of the Moray Firth - that side of Inveness not really starting much before the (much busier, as it was a MPD) Dr Welsh's Bridge Yard, at that time!!

      Thanks Paul. There's a first time for everybody for everything! Yes, after the storm it was nice to see a bit of sunshine out of the train windows.
      Mind you. The bus ride to Aberdeen that afternoon was pretty hairy...
