@@evjimz8460 Stretch the hell out of them. The stairs work really well. Go all the way up on the balls of your feet. Hold for 5-10 seconds. Slowly go all the way down so.your heels are well below the step. Hold for 5-10 seconds. That's one rep. Haha...yeah. Start with 10 reps. You can also try foam rolling. It may be too intense for you though.
Update...once I started using a shorter rope and jumping in a secluded part of the gym on the padded workout floor, instead of the wood floor, it became much easier to get going and very little pain on the knees and ankles. I'm now able to jump 70-80 times in 30 seconds. I then rest for 30 seconds. Sometimes I can rest for only 15 seconds if I'm hydrated, fueled, and had a good night's sleep. I do this workout for 10-15 rounds. The 1" to 1 1/2" jumping is no problem now. Like.anything else that's challenging, it takes lots of practice.
I've lost 4lb this week just from skipping as the gyms are still shut where I live, I'm absolutely useless at skipping but I'm hoping to get better. So this tutorial is a great help, thanks and keep up the great content 👍
You can, but when I actually got a rope, it was much different. At first, I was able to jump without a rope for 30 min and with the rope.....only 5 min without stopping 🤦🏾♀️
Great instruction Sir!!Now I understand why people swing their ropes before a workout...I have seen in a lot of pictures and previews and videos people jump so high that this takes a lot of effort and pressurizes the knees...I am now assured about the proper height thanks to you.....
for your rhythm, i recommend you to just do one handed side swing and timing your jump with the rope hitting the floor. I've tried it and it worked really well (one handed side swing is really easy)
What all these "How to jump rope" videos for beginners don't tell you is how to not step on the rope. Or how to co-ordinate your jumps with the speed of the rope. Isn't that basically the art of jumping rope, to not step on it?
I think I just figured out. The key is to keep your feet either directly below or slightly in front of your body. You do that by keeping your knees bent, as pointed out in the video. That way the rope won't get entangled in between your feet. Just did that now and had the best jump rope workout ever after doing it wrong for years. So try focusing on the position of your feet, slightly in front of or below your body and knees bent. Doing it this way I also didn't have to lift my feet as high as before. Feeling much less strain on my knees than before.
You are exactly right, I don't know why I didn't mention that in the video but it is so much easier to clear the rope with by bending your knees and keeping your body perpendicular to the floor or keeping your weight slightly to the rear as you just slightly leaning back. If you are leaning forward then becomes very difficult indeed. I'm glad that you made this comment, as many people are probably wondering the exact same thing. Thank you : )
Thanks for the tip guys. I hope this helps me in my next work out coz I am a total beginner and I tried skipping the first time couple days ago and got frustrated. Will bear in mind this tip next time.
I'm not going to lie, I've been looking at other jump rope videos and I always ende up coming back to this one. It's just better than some of the other ones. I'm still having trouble getting the rope started and jumping so hopefully this helps.
What an awesome video. Just what I was looking for. Simple and straight forward. I was going to make a video of me jump roping on day one and seeing where it leads me in 90 days. Thanks.
Yup that's what usually happens when you share your plans! It takes out the momentum and you end up not doing it! Shoulda made the video first and THEN came and told us about it. I say this by experience, no judgement. But this is just another example of something I been learning: keep your plans and ideas to yourself untill you have put them in action.
Found this recently...good stuff, I can do both foot basic singles all day, with some triples left and right with some kick outs but continue to struggle with double left and double right.
Good tips man! You have to master the basics and build a good foundation in order to excel with the jump rope. It isn't that difficult, it's just making sure you are practicing the right things.
Thank you very much ! I post on my channel my learning about how I learn to jump rope from zero. ( I couldn't even do 3 sec on my first day ) French speaking but English captions are present. I couldn't do it like a pro like you but I manage to keep it 1 minute thanks to your advices. :)
Great video, just starting to do jumprope, and i have a question, what is the correct lenght for the rope? I bought a cheap rope you can change the lenght of it, so am wondering how do i know if its to short or too long
I am teaching children how to jump rope. And these tips are exact, what I am teaching👍👍👍 We start with beginners only with a few jumps, maybe one to three just to learn the right technique. Then we increase step by step. Most important: Rotation from the wrists, not from the arms and jumping only a little bit, just to clear the rope.
Excellent video. Watched a compilation of boxers skipping and Mayweather is as smooth as silk, looks like he's doing it without a rope! Thanks for the tips.
I’m 6ft and I use an 11ft rope. I’m sure that rope will be fine for you as well if you find that it is too long simply tie a couple of knots near the handles to shorten the rope. Thanks for watching 😎😆😎
these are definitely not the most durable ropes. That’s always going to be a relative question. For example jumping rope 20 minutes may be easy for you yet next to impossible for me. The best gauge is to try and keep it up long as your able up to 20 minutes. Yet if you’re looking for a short term goal for motivation, a boxing round is three minutes. Yes, some people need a regression before progression to be successful. Rope swinging to a beat first then side swinging to a jump.
I can't seem to alternate bwtween feet. I just don't understand how to actually do it. Do you have a tutorial please?
If you are simply trying to alternate from leg to leg try to keep your weight on the ball of your foot.
