The fact that I had to fight with my insurance company to get cross-linking for Keratoconus which is a medical condition is just sick. And the fact that they won’t pay for this medically necessary lens for me to be able to see it is just wrong. What’s the point of $600 a month healthcare insurance if it doesn’t cover anything!?

To have to pay that much and observe the government pay for a sex change is beyond me I hear your comparison and what about the Hippocratic oath that you have taken as a doctor then think of the harm that has been done to men and women that have sex changes and then don’t want them ? The complication that comes with those surgeries and the amount of time given for a warranty for a scaleral lens is sad 90 days and your stuck after that

Add on to that over the 2 year life of the lenses the following...
    Saline
    Disinfection Solution
    Deprotienization
    Suction cups
    Case
Often the maintenance can be more expensive than the lens itself over the 2 year lifespan.
Chair time is the main bulk of the costs.
Very, very expensive but the images you see are crisp, sharp and excellent acuity and clarity.

initial evaluation and fitting - $750
    followup - $195
both Scleral lenses - $1000 base or $1250 with add on
Some initial eval are like $2000 (smh) and up to a few thousand per lenses. Why price difference? Depend on location (HCOL, rent, and salaries variables) and some doctors just wanna charge more. This is in Maryland. If you are in San Francisco or London , good luck getting it cheap. Some good insurance cover 100% for eval plus lenses both if it's medically necessary but most insurance usually won't cover.

Due financial struggle I managed to do only 1 eye and it costed R$1500,00 back in 2017 (today's money would be something around $300,00 or more).
I've tried smaller gas permeable ones before, much cheaper but not even close to the sight improvement and comfort of a scleral lens.
Also, it doesn't last forever and recommended time to get a new one is 2 to 3 years.
I have keratoconus and that's definitely a hassle.

good thing I am getting mine through the VA, the fitting is what takes longer, since I have astigmatism and my left eye is the bad one that eye is still taking longer to get the right fit. But I am glad I do not have to pay anything.. the numbers I see in the comments are wild, but the vision is amazing with scleras.

@Muzicboy3 20/20 or better, my right eye is done with the fitting, and the left is almost done, the brand I have no idea, since the VA does everything I never get to see brands, and I don't really ask either. But right now with my right lenses could wear it for over 8 hours and no fog at all, that's why is important to have the right fit.

@Muzicboy3 I get 20/15 on the right eye once the lense is settled, but to be honest, I can see way better with the sclera than with glasses, plus they are so comfortable to wear, if you are planning on getting them, you should give it a try, at least I hate wearing glasses and having the scleras it's been a great experience so far and I'm still on the last stages of fitting.

This is not "new technology".. This type of lens was commonly fit since the 1930's and before. When the smaller, more comfortable "corneal" lenses became the "norm", scleral lenses became obsolete. My mother had scleral contact lenses in 1947, so this is not new or "Rocket Science", just greed..

Bro go for Scleral lenses and you ll be able to see again. I haven't tried them but going to try in a week or two but they are the ultimate solution.
Regarding C3R sometimes it can happen that a patient needs another C3R but please go to ophthalmologist and this time a different one than you visited before. You need a topography scan and an optermist who is expert in making Sclerals.
