Unfortunately, a lot of doctors don't know about, and/or mention these type of lenses. I can't wear regular soft contacts and during my years of wearing glasses no Doctor ever told me about these. Thank you for the video.
Just today, I was recommended scleral lenses for corneal scarring and dry eyes, seeing a new doctor after 3 years with an optometrist who was... "not great" is an understatement. He pointed out that I have corneal scarring (something I already knew) but gave no options on what to do. He discovered I had macular degeneration in 2020 but gave ZERO explanation what that is or what I can do to take care of it. I had to do all of my own research into these things and try stuff on my own. Last year, I told him my main concern was struggling to read the computer for my job; he gave me glasses where I can't see ANYTHING closer than 4 feet, and when I told him this is NOT helpful, he basically went "oh well, the insurance won't cover a 2nd pair, oh and I'm closing up shop, bye!" He closed down, I couldn't get new glasses that actually work for reading, and I had to wait until 2023 for my insurance to cover another visit. In the meantime, I've been cranking my screen size to 400% just to read emails and write reports! (Stupid American health care system!) My new doctor was so kind, explained everything, showed me images of what the macular degeneration looks like, what the scars look like, explained what they do to my vision (something no other doctor bothered to explain in the 15 years since I learned I had this, I didn't even know why my vision has "blur lines") and she explained why the scleral lenses may help with all sort of issues I've had for most of my life. I had never heard of them, no other doctor bothered to address the scarring issue. I have an appointment next Monday for a fitting, so I'm doing my due diligence researching what I can so I know what to expect. Thank you for this video.
@@Priyan0000 It took many refittings to get the lenses perfect, but my optometrist was determined to get them right. She was very attentive to even the slightest discomfort, until finally in late April, we got a pair that was exactly the right shape. I love them. They're definitely something to get used to, but no more dry eyes, no more shadows from the corneal scars, no more headaches from wearing glasses that push on fibromyalgia points around my ears, and best of all, I can cut onions without tears. That was an unexpected but wonderful bonus! 😁
I just got my first pair of scleral lenses. Have higher order aberration and astigmatism. Popped in the sample lenses and I was instantly 20-20. My custom lenses are even better. Never going back.
The Scleral Lens is a miracle lens. I have an irregular astigmatism and extremely dry eyes and psuedoexfoliation, thin cornea etc, etc - really bad eyes. My eyes have never felt better and also my vision is spectacular.
I’m really not sure what brand they are 😢 The eye doctor ordered them and didn’t mention the brand. I didn’t know there were more than one brand for these type of lens.
Scleral lenses are also very good for those with Graft Versus Host Disease (GVHD.) I should know because i have GVHD and i have severe dry eye. I wear scleral lenses since a couple of months now and i couldn't be happier! I have no more discomfort! My headaches are gone, my pain is gone, light sensitivity is gone, all in all Scleral lenses helped me a lot and even though i have other pain and discomforts, at least my eyes are now not in pain anymore. And i can see much more clear now. Seriously, if you have dry eye and tried everything (fluids etc...) try talking to an ophthalmologist!
@@northernsouler Thank you for your input. I'm been trying to wear contacts for years. And no optometrist I've seen has never recommended this or ortho-k. Many just want to sell what the basics.
Hi ! I was recently prescribed out base prisms. Are scleral lenses able to have prims in them or do you know of an alternative for me bc I would love to have contacts without having double vision?? Thanks in advance!!

@rhov-anion hi! Where did you get the lenses? What state, clinic and doctor? Thank you!
Have any studies been conducted on the long-term effects of the iris being submerged in fluid?
I wear scleral lenses & I do not regret the decision. My vision hasn't been this clear in years!!
Same here 😢

What type of dry eye you have??
I have an appointment for sclera lenses. I have dry eyes. I can’t wear my regular contacts. I’m so excited that this may work for me!!!
I hope so too! Good luck ❤
How’d it turn out?

I have sever kerato and they didn't work for me. my vision is not very good with them neither for my cousin that have same keratoconus.
Will these lenses work for very flat corneas and very high hypermetropia?
Hi Doctor Lee. I'm over 40 and near sighted. Is there still a 'chance' that these contacts can work for me?
I'm in my 50s. I've had two corneal specialists and my local optometrist recommend scleral lenses.

Dr. Andrew G. Chong in the greater Los Angeles(La Puente) is the man for this. He discovered my keratoconus condition
👍👍👍👍
That lady blinks a lot wearing those lenses, they don’t look that comfortable
may be she is in front of some AC, as lenses usually irritate in cold wind or eyes become too sensitive for cold wind.
Some people just blink a lot. May not have anything to do with the lenses.
@@sandrad4695 there is usually a reason why people blink a lot though not just for the fun of it
