    Did this last weekend and although a little different I did not have any difficulties getting it off. Took off a couple of other bolts to move the air pipe out of the way a little. Cleaned with Carb cleaner and a lot came off so most was shiny when finished then back together quicker than it took to dismantle it. Was surprised how much black came off. Golf had done 220000km No problems when back together and car runs well.

    Thx a lot man, helped me a lot on my Mk4 tdi ALH engine Mechanical Bosch injection pump, the only difference vs a PD engine is the the EGR pipe will not bend out of the way, and you'll need to hold it a cm out of the way to Acces the most lower bolt. Keep up the good work and videos man :D

    Great video. Music's a bit loud though!
    Have you considered suggesting people doing this for the first time you might want to replace the vacuum tube running to the EGR solenoid?
    Also may be showing us how you actually clean the EGR valve would have been good.
    I've done this on a Volkswagen Audi 1.9 TDI 1998 engine and a Toyota engine and I'm about to do this on an alhambrah engine later on this afternoon.

    Just a quick correction the clamp is not a 1 time use item.If you pop the high side over the hook side and use the proper tool or tile snips it can be re-used quite easily.I re-use these on a daily basis and have never broken or replaced one

      @@SelectTaxi24 yea it seems hard because you can't see it. I assume you're talking about the allen bolt. I just used an allen wrench that fits on a socket wrench, I fitted the wrench into the nut first then hooked on the socket wrench and turned it counter-clockwise, comes right out. Also there are two bolts that need to be removed from the bottom and that metal hose pushed out of the way.

    One important question: Do you have to setup the engine electronics afterwards ?

  • @BMACVAGS
    @BMACVAGS  11 лет назад +4

    Thank you for taking the time to watch my videos, I truly appreciate it.
    Your car will run perfectly fine without a egr valve in it, in fact it will run better. The egr valve works like eating regurgitated food, you will digest more of the nutrients (Fuel) but there will be down sides. The problem you may have is with the emissions test, the emissions may read higher because it is not being re burnt. Also it can cause a slight judder when you turn it off but nothing major. Did that help?

    I have a VW Golf Mk 4 1.9 TDII. It is a grease car and runs great on WVO. with a twin tank system.
    I have disabled my EGR valve, but it is still in situ. Now I am thinking of using the inlet port to add a water injection system. This idea is to boost power and keep the engine clean inside. I want to use the venturi effect to draw water (carefully controlled by a needle valve) into the air intake via the EGR where the exhaust gasses used to go in. The valve flap (to regulate air intake) is metal glued in to open position. Do you know of any water injection systems that might be available to complete this project? And do you think that this is a crazy idea? If so, why? Cheers.

    With the EGR valve removed it would be a good idea to remove the inlet manifold and clean this out aswell as the inlet manifold gets really gunked up and causes the engine to go into limp mode over 3000 rpm. ( Over boost.)

      Hi BMAC VAGS,
      I have a 2010 VW Touran 1.9TDI 105bhp and I have some of the same yet rare symptoms of third gear acceleration losing power from turbo like it goes flat. I don't recall the speedometer disappearing. The engine management light does not come on, and it has not been on.
      Power returns when I put my foot on the clutch pedal, kill the engine and restart while moving then release clutch in a relevant gear to the speed.
      It prevents me from committing overtaking maneuvers that would be safe because I don't want to be stranded on the wrong side of the road or in a hatch area just because I wanted to over take someone doing 30mph in a 40mph zone.
      I have around 136,500miles on the clock and it had it's timing belt and water pump changed at recommended interval.
      I also get a farting noise when I turn the car off. A mechanic friend said that's a good sign, even though it didn't do it when I got the car at around 70,000miles in 2012.
      Any ideas? EGR valve gummed up or turbo reaching end of life?
      It drives fairly well otherwise for what it is, handling is nice for throwing around corners and performance in gears 1 and 2 is admirable enough for me.
      Thanks and regards.

      dont do your manifold if really dont have to. Ive done a few dozen & out of 30,say,only 1 was bad enough to need cleaning. The problems start when you take em off,& the seals dont sit properly when replacing it back on.All sorts of probs can arise ie:have seen folk warp manifolds,destroy seals etc. have you got a torque wrench? Dont even attempt to take manifold off if you havent got 1 to put it back.theres a tightening sequence usually working from midlle outwards.check on autodata etc

    My 2001 VW Jetta has recently started jerking and spewing black smoke when I accelerate up hill and on the interstate. I took it to advance and had it hooked up to a computer and it read that there was a large vacuum leak. Could this be the EGR Valve that is messed up?

      no. you just said theres a vacuum leak.thats the problem

    • @chariteepayne4781

      Actually from what I have read, EGR Valves can show up as vacuum leak in the system codes if they are faulty or are in need of cleaning. My car acts exactly as if the EGR Valve was messed up but no way knowing for sure until I get under the hood.

      hows ur car 'act'? any smoke on start up? hard to start? the code will either show insufficient flow,or too much(stuck open).what code did you get?

    • @chariteepayne4781
      @chariteepayne4781 10 лет назад

      It's reads too much "Large Vacuum Leak" in the codes. No it doesn't smoke on start up only when driving past 65mph, it will jerk a few times, slow down a little, and then black smoke will come out of the tailpipe. It will do it every so often, not every time.

      Charitee payne you need to go over every single vacuum line & examine for holes/splits etc. Failing that,get it on a diagnostics & start testing components like vacuum solenoids etc(ie vcds)

    Is it possible to remove the EGR in a 2006 jetta TDI, and it still be runnable? My brother has his off in his '98 Jetta TDI and it runs fine. (Don't need that shit!, also a mad coal roller) I heard that in a '06 model the jetta want start. just curious as to why that is.

    theres no reason whatsoever to take that egr off mate. that egr will be exactly the same 48hrs later. i had an egr that only had a 1/2" hole thru the crud(now,that really needed cleaning!). honestly,when ya start taking off things that dont need to be off,thats when you start getting new problems. If it aint broke,dont fu*k about with it!(on tdi's)

      Thats becouse of the crankcase ventilation, if you install a oil catch pan, and delete delete the egr, the intake manifold and everything arround should stay clean, i made my own oil catchpan for my VW Lupo also a TDI engine.. please take a look > www.3lvrienden.nl/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=1045 (translate to english with google trannslation or whatever :)

      nothing to do with cc breather. its to do with your car having either worn injector,& not burning fuel the way it should,or you've had it remapped.does a brand new car have a coked up egr? No.because it burns fuel the way it should & no soot goes into egr.EGR's do more than just emissions mate. They actually lower the temperature in chambers etc,and contribute in the ecu with maf/map.My car is 12 yrs old & egr never been cleaned & its only got an oily sheen,nothing else. servicing your tdi every 5k/6k will solve most issues,plus using quality diesel(not asda tesco etc). Ive seen more tdi's knackered through folk cleaning/removing things (that should be left alone)than i care to remember. everyone to their own opinions though

      Why did you stuff oil catchpan with sime sort of metal whoppet (or other absorbent), doesn't it hold oil without it?

    I'm having real trouble with this :( Some idiot who owned my Bora before me has dogged up the bolts on the pipe leading to the EGR and its impossible to loosen them in the tight awkward space.... So annoyed lol theres just no way to get it off.

    • @BMACVAGS
      @BMACVAGS  10 лет назад

      You either try and force a bigger bit in there or remove the inlet manifold and disconnect egr pipe from the top of the exhaust manifold and attack it when its off.

    • @BraddazHD
      @BraddazHD 10 лет назад

      Yeah i thought about this BUT wouldnt you have to remove EGR to get at some of the inlet manifold bolts? Thanks for the replies by the way mate

    • @BMACVAGS
      @BMACVAGS  10 лет назад

      I don't think so from what I can remember. alternatively you can dremmel the heads of the bolt off and sort it out once it is off.

      Yes I see, Thanks for the help and love the tutorials bud, I have a 1.9 tdi Bora so use quite a few of your videos... I have a broken turbo (overboost) problem at the moment - the turbo isnt working at all but used to when i bought it.

      May just be an actuator on the or a dodgy n75 valve. Be sure to check before you go for the removal.

    Ok so i had my egr valve cleaned out by a mechanic and now the engine shakes badly when turning it off. Car seems to drive better and is more responsive but the twat says "its doing this because its breathing better". Now even i know he is full of s**t so i did some looking around on forums. Everything seems to come back to anti shudder valve not working. Diags brings up P0501 vehicle speed sensor range/performance. Dont know if this has anything to do with the shaking but any help would be much appreciated. Oh and i also tried the decarbonising which works great! Thanks in advance.

      I think the anti shudder valve shuts of the inlet when you switch off the engine, you can see if its working.
