    My advice to first time builders is don't get too wrapped up in the performance numbers. Install your hardware, make sure you're clocking at the correct speeds and that everything is stable and then turn off the fps counter. Turn off the monitoring software. Just play the games. Don't lose sleep over that extra 10% of performance if you tweak that overclock for another 6 hours. Don't think, "I could have gotten those extra X frames if I upgraded to the Y". Just enjoy your PC.

      This is good advice. Built my first PC last year and got way too obsessed over FPS and CPU/GPU temps and changing graphics settings that i barely played the games. It even convinced me to go back to PS5. Built another PC this year and now I don’t stress about any of that stuff. It’s been an amazing experience.

    • @nadtz
      @nadtz Год назад +11

      I have known people who spent so much time tinkering with their build that they barely ever actually used the PC. Used to drive me crazy watching them tweak for like an hour to get 1 FPS more instead of playing the games they were tweaking the PC to get 1 FPS more in.

      @@nadtz For some folks, that's the fun, though, and that's OK, too. I personally keep 3 machines fully operational at all times (one media server, one for electronics projects and one for gaming), but I have a dozen cases and hundreds of parts always in various states of assembly. For me, the BEST game is tinkering with the machines themselves.

    My kid is starting to get interested in PC gaming. I had no idea these computers were designed to be opened and worked on. I was mind blown. Thought about getting him a prebuilt (starting to know the lingo for it lol) for his birthday, but I’m now I’m thinking maybe build one together. I’m not into games, but building one seems like something cool to bond over or if he wants to do it himself and I just watch him and try some of the things I’ve been learning. I’ve been asking around and RUclips brought me to this video. Learned a couple more things! I have no experience so the thought of building is a little scary. Maybe we’ll start getting some parts and go from there. In the meantime I’ll keep checking out more videos in your channel!! 🤙🏻

    I bought a prebuilt because the task of building from scratch seemed too daunting. Within a month i had swapped out everything except for the case. I now have a ton of parts from the original prebuilt collecting dust in my garage, the parts im super happy with in the rig, and the realization that I paid over $1,000 for a case. My best advice, just do the research, trust your abilities, and build your pc. You'll be glad you did. Hope this helps someone 😊

  • @David-yx3bd
    @David-yx3bd Год назад +139

    My advice would be to realize that 99% of games out there can be played on GPUs as old as the 1060 or RX580, and CPUs to match. The better the hardware, the higher your settings get to be, that's all. Higher FPS will not in fact make you a better gamer. So don't think you have to spend a fortune to game. RUclips is very good at trying to upsell to latest generations and 1440p and 4k, but honestly, if you can realistically only afford 1080p on an affordable card and monitor, then do that. You'll be happier. And that's the whole point, have fun.
    A lot of us bitter vets only engage in one past time: Crying about prices. Don't be us. Play games, have fun.

    • @gotinogaden
      @gotinogaden Год назад +3

      Yep. To go even further, some people decide to get one of those second-hand office desktops (HP, Lenovo, Fujitsu) that have relatively high stats (3.5-3.7 GHz along with 8-16 GB RAM) and just swipe the low-end built-in video card for a cheap dGPU, one that still nets them better overall performance. This is a cheap way to get into gaming, but I still prefer the more traditional route, whereby you pick a machine that is actually geared towards the goal.

    • @innovativeadvertising6463
      @innovativeadvertising6463 Год назад +1

      Hey {{3}}, great to see someone emphasizing the importance of balancing fun and affordability in PC gaming! While high-end hardware can enhance the experience, it's not necessary to break the bank. There are plenty of GPUs like the 1060 or RX580 that offer excellent performance at 1080p. Remember, it's all about having fun and enjoying the games you love! By the way, have you heard of the HOTO Compressed Air Capsule? another great video! i have to admit that i was going way over the top with my recent build. but one of the most important and best part's about pc vs console is that a console is purely for gaming while you can literally do almost everthing with a pc. for example, since i got mine i play way more guitar and even learned playing the piano cause recording and playing with your own tracks is so easy and so much fun. also have to agree on the part where you said it's very satisfying to research, order, than build your own pc and it boots up and everything is running. still get's me almost every day then i start mine.
    but it drains my bankaccount hard. the pc itself, the electricity bill is very high (here in germany electricity is hell expensiv) and also some gadgets and peripherals add up (headset, new keyboard, gaming mouse, higher hz monitor, maybe a good controller for slower paced games, in my case audio interace and midi-keyboard and so on)

So either build it myself and pay 3300€ for all the parts or order everything through the shop and get a 2 year guarantee and 2 years of full repair support in case something breaks for 3400€. If you have nothing to proof to anyone this is a better offer even for someone like me who is more than capable of building it.

My AIO cooler had two wires, each fan has two wires (6 fans total), the PC case has 4 sets of wires. etc. My prebuild had a controller/hub which allowed me to connect the rgb for all of my fans and pump, but this was not intuitive at all. Finding the appropriate connection for all of these on the motherboard was difficult, primarily for the AIO cooler as i wanted to ensure the pump was running at all times and at a consistent rate. I'm thinking about transitioning from Xbox one S to a gaming PC which is something totally new for me. But the only reason is I want to experience Skyrim modded beyond its meager limitation on console, but have no clue do I merely have to meet Skyrim's recommended requirements for RAM and GPU or do I need to go 2x beyond???
    Ps. Just before your joke's punchline I had an un- skippable ad, ruining the punchline

      I'm not very familiar with the game, but it looks like it came out like 13 years ago. Pretty much any semi-modern PC from the past 5 years should be able to run it without many problems. In other words, if you're only playing Skyrim, you don't need the most powerful gaming PC money can buy.

    I’ve never been good about tech things and therefore I was just searching for some good hints about having a gaming pc. I usually play quite a lot ESO online on my ps5 but have been told that by playing it on a gaming pc would give me much better image quality since I love role playing .
    So the question is what graphics card should I prioritise in order to have the best image quality possible?
    Thanks

    THX for the educational & enjoyable videos, like this one in particular. As I'm considering in earnest to make a complete overhaul of my current mancave and convert it into a gaming-attic. This project, also a bit as a surprise for my youngest (14y) of 3 kids, looks daunting though as we are mainly console-players (PS5, Wii, Switch, etc.). I was wondering if any site/channel/you could for instance give a quick feedback based on the specs of my first build I'm considering; just to know if it makes sense at all for that kind of money... We're certainly not pro-gamers, just want to seriously up the experience.
    I'm considering a build including elements mentioned below; does this make sense? Looking to connect it to the Samsung Odyssey OLEDG9
    -Intel i9-13900KF processor
    -NVIDIA RTX 4070Ti graphical card
    -NVMe SSD of 1TB
    -Cooler Master Masterliquid PL360 Flux AIO watercooling set
    -Windows 11
    -NVMe SSD-storage of 1TB
    Or should I scrape it all from the whiteboard and spend it differently? THX for pointing me in the right direction!

      I have a 12400F and a H610, thats the cheapest MB for LGA 1700. I would recommend you get a B660 minimum. What a B660 will give you that a H610 wont is the ability to run your ram above 3200mhz and the price difference is only around £30. If there is a possibility you will upgrade to a 12600KF or higher later, get a Z690. More expensive motherboards usually have more options for fans, faster PCIE storage, options for faster ram and better power delivery for top tier CPUs. I personally do not buy ASROCK motherboards. ASUS, MSI, GIGABYTE are good in my opinion.

    Awsome video! I've had my pc for about 4 years. I know they come out with new parts every year. But I just wish i knew more about the upkeep for pc. I've watched vidoes about how to clean Temps files and stuff on pc to get it to run faster. But do you have to change out parts on a pc every now and then? Or what if your running out of space for all your games from steam? I had figure out my cloud storage because it too full I guess so I switched all my data to external hardrives and that fixed the problem for now.

    I agree with mostly everything except your point about entry to pc gaming being expensive. it is extremely cheap to enter pc gaming today. you can easily build a pc for $500-$600 with a used gtx 1070 that would be capable of playing some of the most demanding games at 1080p medium/optimized settings at ~60 fps. and if you are buying all new you can still easily build an $800 system with an rx 6600 that would be even better and would be capable of playing many games at even 1440p.
