Here it comes, television's most exciting hour of fantastic prizes the fabulous sixty-minute Price is Right!
We are showcasing episodes not viewed in decades. Starting from Season 11 (1982), this is the first season when animal furs were no longer offered as prizes, supporting Bob’s advocacy of animal rights in memory of his wife Dorothy Jo.
To celebrate what would have been Bob Barker's 100th birthday, the channel is also featuring episodes from the debut season of The "New" Price Is Right in 1972.

Nothing beats being sick from school and watching Price is Right in the 1980's.
I have bad memories from this show, everyday this is when my mother would leave for work and my father would molest me.
Watching those episodes brings me back to my childhood years where I much rather watched the Price is Right than do homework at school.
And earlier in the show Odell said "I'll faint". Oh, that was a priceless moment...
The banter that Bob had back and forth, with the contestants and the audience, was priceless! 🤣

How can this work with 4 digit prizes?
This made Rod Roddy perform triple duty as an announcer. Not only was he substituting for Johnny Olson on TPIR, but was also working on Press Your Luck and Love Connection. That's got to be exhausting, could you imagine working the way Rod did back then? (He ended up as Johnny Olson's replacement after leaving Love Connection).

I love it when someone outbids another by one dollar and the bell rings and it’s the one they outbid. So in spite of their best efforts they didn’t knock them out.

If they ever did a prime time special, include this game with the catch that a win would also give the equivalent in cash off the numbers displayed. So, example, he had 99991, that would be $99,991 if he doesn't get beat by the house.
They should offer a car if they bring back the poker game and that the contestant has a choice between 4 prices that are concealed in the same manner as the three digit prizes only this time, the right price of the car is the one with the better hand (i.e. $29,999, or $33,333). A contestant picks a concealed door and the price is revealed. If (s)he is satisfied or believes it is the one with the biggest hand (the right price), (s)he could keep that hand. Otherwise, (s)he can give it to the house. The next door chosen is all or nothing. If it's not the one with the biggest hand but is enough to beat the house, (s)he can pick again. Otherwise, the game is over. The correct price on the car (the biggest hand) would display a different color than the rest (i.e. green vs blue or red vs blue).

I always thought instead of calling it “Poker Game” a better name would have been “Common Number.” Pick prizes that have as many of the same number as possible.
There's nothing better than when someone gets a perfect bid when someone else bid $1 over like that. Thankfully, Odell didn't faint!

This was back when Sony was a very premium brand. It’s still kind of that… kind of (sort of)… but back then Sony was definitely perceived as premium quality for a premium price.

Of all the games they have, this one is laughably easy; I don't think they've ever given away a car with it though (I may be wrong).
How can we improve Poker Game if it were to come back from retirement? We'll keep the structure the same (4 3-digit prizes to play with, and a 4-digit prize as a bonus for winning)
How about just use the last three digits of each price.
@AdamJ617 that's too confusing for morons, and not in an entertaining way. I also don't know about a 4-digit prize too since five prizes would take a lot of time to describe.
The only way I can think of that would work is if the big prize was $10,000 but it would cost $1,000 to pass your hand. But even so, the game was retired rather than retooled (like Clock Game was) due to its hand structure confusing even contestants who knew how to play poker, which most did at that time. Remember 2007 was the end of the poker boom when you were a nobody if you couldn't play Texas Hold 'Em. Now? I think it would confuse a large number of people. And it wouldn't be entertaining the way Split Decision was.

I thought in 1985 the reward for guessing the exact price was more than $100. Of course, if it was $100 in 2024, that would be enough for dinner for two at Taco Bell. TPIR wouldn't be that cheap. 🙃
