So true
Fully agree with U!
I would like to add that, for those who are using dualboot with linux and windows and somehow their windows bootloader broke, then they don't need to reformat the efi partition, just skip that step and you will end up with all bootloaders working. bcdboot will create the required directories and won't touch the existing bootloders from efi partition. Thanks a lot for this video man)
A million times.... Thank you! I was removing an old Linux partition and messed up but this video saved my computer! Thank you very much!
Glad it helped!
Thank you!!!! This worked perfectly. I have been dealing with this problem for a week after replacing a bad hard drive. I really appreciate your clear and precise instructions. Thanks again.
You just saved one man sitting in front of his PC at 4am
Thanks to you for your workable solution. I've spent a lot of time over the last three day trying to repair the EFI Partition. I watched, read and tried countless methods on fixing the missing EFI and none worked until yours. Many many thanks.
Absolute legend! There is quite a bit of documentation out there on doing this, but almost all of them you run into permission issues, even when doing it from a recovery disk in CMD. This worked a charm! My entire EFI folder was missing, so I had to shrink the main windows partition by 200MB then made a 100MB partition from that for the EFI, then basically followed your guide. Thank you man.
Great for those who have lost that partition!
How do people loose a partition?
Windows up dates. Happens alllllll the time. But there can also be other reasons, failing drives etc @@redangrybird7564
You posted this 5 years ago, and up until now, it's still making an impact. I'm now taking this time to personally thank you for your unselfish contribution. It has helped others and myself tremendously. There are other posting alike, however your's is quite clear and concise. Well done! Cheers!!
I usually never comment on videos, but you are amazing so I have to! I somehow destroyed my boot partition after reinstalling linux on a separate drive and was driving myself up the wall trying to fix it. Thanks for posting a video that was the perfect speed and level of detail! Cheers!
I Don't normally comment on any video, I spend 2 days on converting MBR windows installation to GPT UEFi. Finally with your help it worked. Thanks a million
I cannot thank you enough! This worked like a charm... Very clearly explained and to the point. Absolutely amazing! The only additional thing for me was that while formatting i.e. after...
format S: /FS=FAT32
It asked me to enter the current volume label, which was... SYSTEM
After that it went just like the vid.
The issue I was facing was that my system wouldn't recognize windows and would only show me the blue screen with troubleshoot and shutdown options. I must've watched like 10 videos and visited 10 more forum pages, nothing helped. You sir, are a blessing. Thanks again!
Glad it helped!
Thanks for leaving that in the comments! you saved me from a lot of headache
I come back after a weekend away to turn on my pc and get welcomed by a blue screen due to a corrupted winload.efi. I followed the guide step by step and got back into it. Thank you a million times!
Brilliant, spent so much time looking for this information. Great video and thanks for going through all the steps of creating the media too for those that have never done a repair like this
Glad it was helpful!
I partitioned my school computer for a Linux and Windows dual boot. It worked but recently I tried to get rid of the dual boot by deleting the Linux partition. It screwed up my Windows and my computer wouldn't start. With the days till school started getting closer and closer I was getting super nervous because it was so obvious that I had screwed with the computer. Your video saved my life lol.
Great - the school should be happy it is back to normal!
Want to add my thanks to the many that have already been given, you saved me hours of work and from a huge headache.
Thank you. For the Very simple Explanation. By accidentally i formated the efi partition, and i was very scared, my data is going to loss. Because I have a bad habit keeping data on desktop. Thanks again for your help. God Bless You 🎉
thanks so much as I spent days trying other peoples suggestions even backup software support don't mention this-they just leave you at the repair mbr part and thats it..this is needed for upgrading to bigger ssd...
Thanks a lot! I did a new setup of win10 in a SSD, still having my prev system in an HDD, but somehow the boot wasn't installed in the SSD. So when I removed the HDD, it also removed the boot for win10. I followed your steps and worked like magic!
@@SidMecha glad it is still helping people many years after I made the video!
Thank you so much, I spent the whole day going back and forth looking for a way to boot back into Windows and I kept getting errors, this actually solved my issue thank you 🙏
Great it helped you!
After 2 days of time-wasting with all those booting options, two clones of my windows and one OEM version on 3 drives, your method made my PC boot from the wrong drive to the right Windows! This means that it somehow works. Now I need to try to understand what Windows wants from me and I am home. The first working boot on the new computer looked like a miracle for all of us here :)
Thanks - very happy you have had progress!
@@Windows10NinjaWorld And yet with a thousand comments, you find time to show kindness to lost souls! Lovely! A few hours later, the PC seems to be back alive, so it was a real breakthrough. Thank you again, and keep ninjaing!
An amazing video an taught me all I needed to know. Having used an HDD to SSD cloning tool that had to force shut the EFI partition on the HDD, so it could be copied to the SSD, I discovered the EFI had been damaged and booting the device caused a blue screen. After rebuilding the partition all was good. Thanks.
you are a lifesaver thank you so much ... I just want to add a point if you don't know how to get your volume name, Instead of "list disk" write "list volume" this will give you more Information about your disks
I literally don't have enough words to tell you how thankful I'm with you, you are the best. Literalmente no tengo palabras suficientes para decirle lo agradecido que estoy con usted.
I converted from mbr to gpt and after that it said device not found. After these steps, my windows booted!
Also, make sure uefi is enabled in your bios. Can't thank this man enough. Absolutely incredible.
Thank you very much, that fixed it for me! I've been working for five hours on this problem now after removing Ubuntu (dualboot).
You saved my life... I have watched like thousand of videos...but was failing to fix the issue...my laptop has some of my work files n personal data...n I have been stressed for like weeks... but ur method finally worked...n I'm so relieved...thank u so much...
Glad I could help
I want to thank you from the bottoms of my heart for the fine video. it helped me when other suggestions could not. I would like to add that this is also a solution for a serious error 0x000000f and access denied when you use "bootrec /fixboot" command. Keep up the good work !
I dont have words to express my gratitude, i deleted EFI because i wanted to delete grub, in order to use manjaro an clean my old disk,
I'm glad, thank you soo much
Thank you very much, I installed windows 10 on my new ssd without formatting the old hdd windows and without disconnecting the old hdd, so I was facing some issues when I want to boot from the new ssd because it doesn't has a EFI system partition so what did I do is creating a new 100MB partition by disk Management, and make it an EFI system partition by cmd and then following your video and it's work! and I can find my hard drive in the boot page under EFI section.
I have been struggling with this problem for 4 months and finally you have saved my life
Great!
You should always do "LIST VOLUME" after assigning drive letters to confirm they are set, prior to exiting DISKPART
how do you confirm and how do you set it?
@@doogiehowser1124 type LIST VOLUME to check what volume assign in every partition
god bless you. i tried more any steps, but doesn't work nothing. that was correct, simply. aaaand you saved my life. thanks a lot.
Fantastic, saved my ass after I wiped my efi while installing arch
I did same thing lol
I replaced Ubuntu with fedora in dual boot system and while doing it Efi partition got formatted...... Now I have fedora in the partition but the windows files are deleted...... Do u had same problem? And following exact steps would help me?
I didn't understand if he is restoring the files or creating a new partition?
this video might be 3 years old, but this was the only tutorial (out of what felt like 100) that actually did the trick for me. Finally I am able to boot from my M2 drive and no longer from my old HDD that used to be my windows 7 drive and is now just used for storage. Thank you very much good sir, this was driving me crazy for the last few days!!!
Might be 3 years old video but good repair techniques last!
Also, even after 3 years I still try to reply!
Glad it helped!
@@Windows10NinjaWorld that's great man. Thanks again!
Thank you for the awesome video, I was spending hours trying to get my pc to boot and I followed this simple tutorial and it fixed it.
HEIII ! You don't know what you just did!
.
You saved my course, and my future, because all the assignments and files are on disk C, a milliion times i wanna say thank you, and God Bless You !! Amin
Words can not express how much you have helped me. Thank you and have a Merry Christmas!
OMG you literally saved me i was so annoyed after cloning my drive to a bigger NVME and it would not boot, this process has saved me a load of headache
I am happy it helped!
Brilliant guide- very easy to follow and worked perfectly.
You are godsend. Spent hours upon hours on complex solutions that didn't work. This got done in 10 minutes. can't thank you enough
The video is informative, could have zoomed in so we can see whats going on. I do agree that the command is shared in the description. But seeing the output of the command being executed would be great. Anyway thanks for the video.
Good point one could do zoom when in Powershell or CMD!
Windows Ninja thanks for taking time to reply.
Thank you so much! I increased the partition windows lives on not realising this would invalidate the EFI. You saved the day!
You're welcome!
When i get to the 4:19 part "Format s: /FS:FAT32" step it asks me to
*Enter current volume label for drive s:*
Its not like your step where I can hit Y/N. Can you please help?
Volume label is 'SYSTEM'

Thank you, this is the best tutorial to fix EFI, I cloned a HDD into a SDD using a GPT partition table and was having trouble to make it boot, and by following your tutorial, I was able to make it work in the first try. Thanks :D
Glad it helped!
Thank you so much. My linux distro messed up my efi partition. Regards from Peru :)
You saved me bro, this worked when I almost lost all hope. All the best to you!
Thank you i just wanted to get rid of my old HDD and replaced with an m.2
Thanks to you I didnt have to reinstall my system :)
Great!
I wish that I found this video about 2 months ago. But you got me fixed and my clone drive now boots! Thank you and God bless!
God Bless You saved many peoples time - Stay Blessed
Thank you so much! All my work from the past three years was saved. CAD files, math practice, two years' worth of notes, game configurations, and so much more. Words can't describe how much you have helped me and so many others.
How did you loose your EFI partition?
You are a LIFESAVER Buddy. Very simple solution for a very BIG problem. Keep it up !!
Best video I have ever found regarding the topic, helping people out 2 years later!
Thanks!
Thank you so much. This is well explained and on point! You fixed my PC! :)
You saved my day! i am having problems with legacy and UEFI and always 'operating system not found' on my acer....until i came across your guide!!!!
‘Failure when attempting to copy boot files’ help?
make sure you select correct directory letter.
Still works in v2004! Updated my bios and suddenly this happened and i thought i would have to clean install or worst case even buy a new SSD!
Thank you so much!
Mate thank you so much. You've saved my time and money too.
Excellent instructions, my windows directory was found on another drive letter to C: but once the correct drives and paths used the EFi partion was copied OK and the PC now boots in Win11 OK. Thanks for making this video
You're an absolute life savor, thank you!
Great that it helped!
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH !!! I can't begin to tell you that this thing was wrecking my head. I tried tons of other ways from RUclips videos, but not a single one worked. I followed your video step-by-step and when it rebooted and I could log back in, the huge sigh of relief almost had tears in my eyes. Well, maybe not to that extreme, lol.
It's going on midnight here and this is my bedroom computer and with the enemy (the wife, lol) asleep, I had to do everything in the dark and also very quietly. I've saved this link because I know for a fact I'll need it again at some point (I have the computer dual booted with Manjaro Linux and something broke it. I can check my Linux another time, so calling this a win for now 🤣)
Once again, thank you so much and now I don't have to rebuild my computer 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Amazing! thanks for your support and comments - glad it did help!
Thank you fam. I thought I lost 3 years of music files
Replaced stock SSD (Helios 300) with new SSD and reinstalled Windows. Both drives in. Great. Try to take out old SSD and suddenly no boot device unless it's still in the computer. Turned out the new SSD EFI was wacked, and you're guide fixed that in under sixty seconds. Wish I had found this six minute video a week ago. Nicely done.
Edit: I did have to skip ahead a step. When I assigned a letter it said all good, but couldn't access it to check the directory so just skipped to the formatting part and all good.
Glad it helped! Yes, like everything in life, modifications may be needed! :)
Thanks a lot sir.. You really are a lifesaver
I somehow stumbled onto your video and I am so thankful I did. It fixed my problem after Macrium Reflect corrupted the EFI partition on the ORIGINAL drive I was cloning. Thanks for the detailed instructions.
thank you so much for this video! I only have a recovery partition and the primary partition showing up. Any tips what to do in that case?
I just cloned my HDD onto a new m.2 SSD and couldn't boot from it. I was about to give up and reinstall but after a few hours of searching your solution was finally the one to fix the problem. Thanks!
I had similar experience - After cloning my larger HDD to my M.2 SSD, my PC boot up fine but then my EFI partition was corrupted after I performed Windows 10 update to the 1809 build. I tried several hours but finally came to the realization the EFI partition wasn't working. This video solved my problem and made sense. Thanks so much Windows Ninja!
You are God sent. God bless you 🙏
You save my day I've just corrupted my efi partition durning create dual boot and now I can boot in to my windows without any problem thank you so much.
It worked ! Thank you so much that was exactly what I needed
Will u lose all the data Installing programs codes Document... ? Etc etc
This video has to be on the top when people searching about "windows.efi" files man. I can not tell you how happy I am right now even if I want to. You are a great guy thanks a lot.
You saved my life.. Also learned a lot.. Thank you so much :)
Excellent video for repairing EFI partition to enable booting into Windows. I had copied partitions separately by resizing and rearrabging them in the order of System (550MB), MSR (128MB), Windows and Recovery (1GB) so the system did not boot until this video rescued me. I knew this procedure already but just wanted to double check for reassurance. My Windows drive was F on my new NVMe instead of D in this video, which is usually C for most people. Therefore, I was simply able to do this from existing Windows within minutes.
DUDEEEEEEE....
YOU SAVED MY LIFEEEEEEE
nice!
@@Windows10NinjaWorld You Saved my System too, thanks :)
Isn't be great?
What a legend. Very well explained. I totally stuffed it up and deleted the boot EFI partition and thought I was done for. All sorted.
Thank you so much🥺♥️
Thank you so much ! You helped me to saved my Windows 8.1 partition after removing all Xubuntu partitions. Every time I boot my PC it was something like "Grub Minimal Bash-Like". Now it works perfectly !
Thanks a lot man 🖖
That is OK! Quick question... why has everybody now become interested in EFI repair? Is this because 1803/1809 upgrade or something else?
Mine was something else.. I was trying to get Windows bootloader to override Ubuntu's grub when I ran into this and I couldn't get Windows to boot at all.
2020 and Windows 10 still sucks but Wow thank you Windows Ninja! I've been working on this problem for 2 days and it wasn't until I found your video that actually worked! Amazing! You're a Life saver.....simple and straight to the point!
Thank you so much I was just installing arch and accidentally reformatted my windows. Efi I cannot thank you enough
Glad you found a solution.
This is probably the first time I'm using the comment session here in RUclips. Infinite times thank you! I was stuck for 1 week. Spending whole days trying to solve this. And now, booom! Worked! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Great job on this video. I was trying to get a new hard drive ready, and in the process, the old one stopped being able to boot into windows. I tried some other videos, but this was the one that got it working again. Thank you so much for sharing this.
Best source of info on how to do this concisely on the entire internet
For those, who got the error as "Unable to copy boot files", repeat the command with another drive. It worked for me !
Thanks for that helpful comment!
Thank you so much windows Ninja, this meant a lot to me. I have been trying to recover this thing for months and yours only helped. This is the only tutorial that you should trust, and youtube, save some people some time and make this tutorial first. Merry Christmas!
I owe you a lot, deleted windows EFI partition instead of Linux... Worked like a charm. Best wishes to you!
Microsoft seriously needs to hire some uefi engineers to fix this, it’s most likely caused thousands to wipe their systems without knowing about the methods you laid out so clearly. Thank you
YOU ARE A LIFESAVER! I was trying to set up a Hackintosh but I somehow managed to erase my Windows EFI partition and I was worried I'd have to format my SSD! Thank you for making this dude :D
After 4 hours search in youtube fix the problem - only your video at the end helped me, thank you very much!
Already second time using it in the middle of the night while I got bootloop cause of my shinanigans... Thanks again. The best tutorial for this issue in RUclips.
Thank you very much. This was the only solution that worked.
I accidently messed up my efi in such a say that I couldn't even access troubleshooter even with a USB installation.
I manually replaced the BCD files from EFI folder to main folder ( through Live Linux Distro )
Now , I got to access the troubleshooter.
I followed your video and it worked !
